Alienware hat kürzlich mit der Herstellung eines 18-Zoll Gaming-Riesen einen beeindruckenden Ausflug gemacht. Während die Kombination von 2 Grafikkarten und einigen der leistungsstärksten Komponenten in einem angeblich portablen Gerät ein Wunder zum Liebäugeln war, kehrte Alienware nun zur benutzerfreundlicheren 17-Zoll Größe zurück. Das ist immer noch die Größe eines Desktop-Replacements, doch mit 1 Zoll weniger sollte es leichter tragbar sein. Die minimalistisch aussehende Maschine wird von einem gedämpften silbernen Farbton umhüllt. Der bekannt Alienware-Kopf sticht, passend zu Tastatur und Handballenablagen, in mattem Schwarz hervor. Wer angeben will, dem steht die bekannte, konfigurierbare Alienware-Lichtshow zur Verfügung. Logo, Tastaturbeleuchtung und Alienware-Kopf am Bildschirmdeckel können in einer konfigurierbaren Farbe leuchten und pulsieren.
Am oberen Ende der verfügbaren Konfigurations-Optionen ist das Alienware 17 mit einem 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 4800MQ und einer 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M ausgestattet. In Kombination mit 16 GB RAM werden nur die anspruchsvollsten Spiele mittlere Einstellungen benötigen. Der matte 17-Zoll Bildschirm mit einer Auflösung von 1920 x 1080 Pixel könnte jene enttäuschen, die sich nach der neueren 3200 x 1800 Auflösung umsehen, die erst von aktuellen Gaming-Laptops angenommen werden muss. Typisch für derart leistungsstarke Geräte, erreicht das Alienware ungefähr 4 Stunden Akkulaufzeit bei leichter Last. Bei intensiveren Spielen ist ein Stromanschluss notwendig. Insgesamt handelt es sich um einen hochwertigen Laptop mit hoher Leistung für begeisterte Spieler mit viel Geld.
Alienware 17 R4 Serie
Alienware beeindruckte LaptopMedias Tester, der die Firma als Apple der Gaming-Branche bezeichnete. Das neue Alienware 17 R4, eine Verbesserung seines Vorgängers, des Alienware 15 R3, wird von einer Intel Skylake CPU sechster Generation (dem vierkern i7-6820HK 2.7 GHz) angetrieben und ist mit einer diskreten Grafikkarte ausgerüstet (Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070). Es ist eine überarbeitete, leistungsstärkere Version, die für viele Nutzungsszenarien gedacht ist, vor allem aber für Gaming. Das Alienware 17 sieht äußerst erwachsen und schlank aus, bietet jedoch immer noch viel Leistung. „Es versammelt das Beste und Neueste (nun, mit Ausnahme der CPU, die immer noch nicht auf Kaby Lake modernisiert wurde) von dem Angebot der Branche und packt es in ein elegantes neues Gehäuse, behält aber auch einige der klassischen Alienware-Merkmale bei“, schreibt LaptopMedia.
DESIGN
„Das Alienware 17 wirkt wie eine Veredelung des 2015-Modells, es packt NVIDIAs brandneue Desktop-GPU in ein elegantes neues Gehäuse, das Ihren Rücken auf dem Weg zu einer LAN-Party nicht zu sehr belasten wird“, meint TrustedReviews. LaptopMedia schreibt auch, dass das Alienware 17 gewöhnlichen Gamern als auch Nutzern mit einem minimalistischeren und strengen Geschmack gefallen wird, da das Gerät gänzlich überarbeitet wurde, gleichzeitig aber Alienwares Wurzeln treu blieb. Die Designs von Alienwares Laptops werden stetig dünner und die neue Serie unternimmt laut TechRadar einen großen Schritt in Richtung Schlankheit: „Um hier anzugelangen, musste die Firma das interne Kühlsystem komplett umgestalten.“ TrustedReviews verleiht einen Pluspunkt für das aus einer anodisierten Legierung aus Aluminium und Magnesium gefertigte Gehäuse sowie die neu gestaltete „TackX“-Tastatur: „Die Legierung fühlt sich etwas solider an als bei älteren Alienware-Geräten. Die Tastatur stellt ein einfaches, aber wichtiges Upgrade dar. “ LaptopMedia merkt an, dass das neue Gehäuse auch hinsichtlich der Größe verbessert wurde: „Da das Vorgängergerät noch 34,4mm maß, wirkt dieses Alienware 17 R4 mit einer Dünne von 29,9mm deutlich schlanker. Allerdings nahm es auch an Gewicht zu (von 3,7kg auf 4,4kg). Ein Blick auf das Kühlsystem erklärt, warum das Notebook so schwer ist. “
DISPLAY
Das 17,3-Zoll-Display gibt es mit 1080-p-, QHD- oder 4-K-Auflösung. Man könnte die standardmäßige Full-HD-Version wählen, die zwar ohne Tobii-Eye-Tracking-Technologie auskommt, dafür aber ein IPS-Panel mit besseren Betrachtungswinkeln bietet (LaptopMedia). Laut einer positiven Bewertung von TrustedReviews ist die Bildwiederholrate des Panels von 120Hz für Gaming gut geeignet, die Farben wirken ausgeglichen, obwohl die Schwarztöne für den Tester nicht tintig genug waren, und die Blickwinkel sind ausgezeichnet. MobileTechReview schreibt, dass der IPS-Bildschirm ein sehr gutes Panel hat, das typisch für hochwertige Gaming-Notebooks ist: „Mit etwas Kalibration ist es für professionelle Foto- und Videobearbeitung für Websiten in Ordnung. Dank der schnellen GPU in unserem GTX-1070-Modell, die bei modernen AAA-Titeln für solide 60 fps sorgt, sahen wir beim Gamen auf dem 60-Hz-LG-Phillips-Panel mit eingeschaltetem VSync sehr wenig Tearing.“ Steve Wright, Tester bei Stevivor.com, empfindet den 4-K-Bildschirm mit Tobii-Eye-Tracking wahnsinnig gut und gleichzeitig furchterregend. Es ermöglichte ihm, mit seiner Blickachse anfliegende Asteroiden anzuvisieren, was erstaunlich gut gelang.
TASTATUR UND TOUCHPAD
Bezüglich der Tastatur: „Wir fänden es besser, wenn die Tastatur näher an der Handballenablage wäre, da man dadurch die Wärme weniger spüren würde; andererseits haben die Handgelenke somit viel Platz“ (LaptopMedia). TrustedReviews sieht die Tastatur als einfaches, aber wichtiges Upgrade: „Laut Alienware haben die Tasten einen Hub von 2,2mm und eine Rapid-Response-Funktion, dank der die Tastatur mehr als 108 Tastenbefehle per Minute registrieren kann. Ich habe die Grenze der Tastenbefehle bei Weitem nicht erreicht, fand die Tastatur aber komfortabel für Gamen und besonders reaktionsfähig.“ Stichwort Tastatur und Trackpad des Alienware 17: LaptopMedia stellt fest, dass dieses Notebook einen guten Hub, einstellbare RGB-Beleuchtung mit getrennten Zonen und 6 programmierbare Makrotasten hat, Mediensteuerung fehlt hingegen immer noch: „Die ergonomische Form und allgemeine Haptik der Tastatur werden sich als nützlich erweisen, sowohl beim Tippen als auch Gamen. Das futuristische LED-erleuchtete Touchpad ist schwer zu übersehen - ausgezeichnete Gleitfläche, präzise, reaktionsschnelle und etwas weiche dedizierte Maustasten.“
LEISTUNG
Das Alienware 17 R4 ist mit dem vierkern Skylake 2,7 GHz Core i7-6820HK Prozessor sechster Generation verfügbar, welches als Hochleistungschip mit einem relativ hohen Verbrauch angesehen wird - 45W TDP, genau wie sein kleiner Bruder, der i7-6700HQ. Das Intel Core i7-6820HK mit vier Kernen, das mit 2,7 GHz getaktet ist, kann bei einem aktiven Kern bis zu 3,6 GHz erreichen, 3,4 GHz bei zwei aktiven Kernen und 3,2 GHz bei vier aktiven Kernen. Mit 8 GB VRAM und einer GTX-1070-GPU ist das Alienware 17 für 1080-p- und 1440-p-Gaming perfekt ausgerüstet; 4K wird etwas problematisch, wenn man Anti-Aliasing oder ähnliches steigert, doch laut TrustedReviews meistert das Notebook die meisten Spiele mit Gelassenheit. LaptopMedias Gaming-Tests zeigen, dass der Laptop bei „Grand Theft Auto V“ in Full HD und mit maximalen Einstellungen 59 fps erreichte, 55 fps in Full HD und mit maximalen Einstellungen bei „Tomb Raider“ und 84 fps bei „Tom Clancy’s The Division“.
TEMPERATUR UND GERÄUSCHEMISSIONEN
LaptopMedia unterzog die CPU einem Stresstest und bemerkte zweierlei: „Die CPU wird mit Frequenzen getaktet, die niedriger als üblich sind, und bleibt unter 3,1 GHz mit vier aktiven Kernen unter Volllast.“ Davon abgesehen sind die Resultate mit denen eines Desktop-PCs vergleichbar, die CPU-Temperaturen erreichen unter Volllast 65°C bis 70°C (LaptopMedia). MobileTechReview berichtet ähnlich gute Nachrichten: Die GPU, selbst unsere NVIDIA-GTX-1070-Version, bleibt kühl, genau wie die CPU. Beim Gamen beträgt die Temperatur der CPU-Kerne durchschnittlich 65°C, die der GPU 62°C, was beeindruckend niedrige Werte sind, sogar für ein Desktop-Ersatz-Gaming-Notebook. Die Oberflächentemperaturen sind nie glühend heiß, die Tastatur und die umliegende Fläche sind am wärmsten. Dennoch kommentiert der Tester für Stevivor.com: „Während des Spielens bemerkte ich, dass der Lüfter immer lauter wurde, doch es störte nicht. Dank komplexer thermischer Schnittstellen konnte die Luft zirkulieren und die Außenschale des Laptops blieb kühl.“ Des Weiteren: „Die Mitte der Tastatur erwärmt sich bei normaler Benutzung oder während mehrstündigen Gaming-Sitzungen ein wenig (um die 47 Grad Celsius)“, schreibt LaptopMedia.
AKKULEISTUNG
Bei Gaming-Laptop-Tests ist dies selten ein positiver Absatz, doch laut einem Akkutest, der von MobileTechReview durchgeführt wurde, schafft das Alienware 17 R4 mit seinem 99-Whr-Akku und der NVIDIA Optimus 6 bis 6,5 Stunden Laufzeit bei einer Mischung aus Produktivitätsaufgaben und Videostreaming, die Bildschirmhelligkeit wurde auf 33 Prozent gestellt. LaptopMedia benutzte jedoch ihr eigenes Script, um reale Situationen zu simulieren: Bei automatischem Internetsurfing auf 70 Websiten hielt das Alienware 17 R4 267 Minuten durch (4 Stunden un 27 Minuten); bei Videowiedergabe sank die Akkulaufzeit auf 3 Stunden und 41 Minuten; beim Gamen im Akkubetrieb rechte eine Ladung für nur 54 Minuten. MobileTechReview merkte auch an, dass das Notebook mit einem schlanken, aber großen 240-Watt-Netzteil geliefert wird, ein Design, dass dem des Laptops nicht unähnlich ist: „Es ist ein völlig ausreichendes Netzteil mit genug Watt, sodass das Netzteil nie zu heiß wird und der Ladezustand beim Gamen im Netzbetrieb nicht sinkt.“
FAZIT
Im Allgemeinen: „Da sich der größte Unterschied im Display-Bereich befindet, wird das Notebook für Hardcore-Gamer, Content Creators und Käufer, denen ein bescheidener Full-HD-Bildschirm ausreicht, interessant sein.“ Allerdings: „Für den Anfang sind die CPU und die GPU übertaktbar und das Kühlsystem ist zweifellos in der Lage, mit der zusätzlichen Taktrate umzugehen, doch Alienware stellt keine einfache Übertaktungseinrichtung zur Verfügung“ (LaptopMedia). Mit den außergewöhnlichen Vorteilen in Sachen Design und Funktions-Upgrades wird das Alienware 17 R4 als toller Laptop für Gamer angesehen. Das klare und sophistizierte Design, eine gute Tastatur und ein gutes Trackpad, ein gut entworfenes Kühlsystem, Tobii-Eye-Tracking (nur mit dem 4-K-Display verfügbar) und ein beeindruckender Bildschirm mit ausgezeichneter Bildqualität sind einige von den Vorteilen dieses Geräts. Deshalb findet Stevivor.com, dass das Alienware 17 ein sehr spezifisches Gaming-Gerät ist: „Es ist ein hübsches, vollgepacktes Paket, perfekt für jene, die sich ihren Computer nicht selber bauen wollen und sich gleichzeitig eine mobilere Version eines vorgefertigten PC-Towers wünschen.“ Dennoch hat dieses elegante Notebook einige unerwartete Schwachstellen, die etwas enttäuschen können. Die Akkulaufzeit, beispielsweise, ist trotz des großen 99-Wh-Akkus recht kurz, Übertakten ist nur durch BIOS und Software von Drittherstellern möglich. „Letztendlich sollte das Alienware 17 R4 nur die erste Gaming-Wahl sein, wenn man die allerbeste Gaming-Erfahrung sucht“, folgerte LaptopMedia.

Overall, we're very pleased with the balance on this system, even if AMD Enduro's stability was a sore spot. Disabling the function isn't difficult, but it does come with a battery life tradeoff. Hopefully AMD and Alienware will be able to improve the situation with better drivers and software in the future. Regardless, if you're gaming on this machine, you're going to always want to use the discrete GPU anyway.

Alienware ist in der Gaming-Industrie kein Unbekannter und der Grund dafür ist einfach: Immer schon lieferten sie modernes Gaming-Equipment. Das Alienware 17 (GTX 880M) ist nur eines davon.
Das Erste, das normale Personen bemerken werden ist, dass dieser Laptop groß und klobig ist. Allerdings ist das für Gamer kaum ein Problem. Ein Gaming-Laptop, der nicht groß und klobig ist, lässt die Alarmglocken schrillen. Leider nutzt die Schnittstellenausstattung trotz des verfügbaren Platzes nicht alle Möglichkeiten. Es gibt nur zwei USB-Ports, einen HDMI-Port, die übliche Kopfhörer/Mikrofon-Buchse, einen Ethernet-Port und einen DVD-Burner. Auch zwei weitere USB-Ports hätten an der Größe nichts geändert.
Die Qualcomm Atheros Killer Netzwerkkarte stellt sicher, dass Spieler immer flüssige Pings haben. Das 802.11 ac WiFi-Modul ermöglicht kabellose Verbindungen und Bluetooth 4.0 wird auch unterstützt. Im Herzen wird das Alienware 17 (GTX 880M) durch einen der schnellsten verfügbaren Prozessoren, den Intel Core i7-4700MQ, mit 8 GB RAM angetrieben. Die GeForce GTX 880M Grafikkarte sorgt für beste Grafik.
Das Kraftwerk von Alienware ist für Gamer ohne Rücksicht auf Größe und Mobilität gemacht. Für Gelegenheitsuser ist es sowohl in puncto Finanzierung als auch Funktionalität ungeeignet.

Der Windows-8.1-Laptop verfügt über einen erstaunlichen 17,3 Zoll großen IPS-Bildschirm mit FHD-Auflösung, der entspiegelt ist. Farben und Bildschärfe sind genau und klar. User können die meisten Aspekte des Laptops konfigurieren, doch standardmäßig ist der Laptop mit einem Intel Core i7-4720HQ Quad-Core-Prozessor, 16 GB DDR3L RAM und einer NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M mit 4 GB GDDR5 VRAM ausgestattet. The Alienware 17 is in an interesting position. What once would have been considered a beastly rig, now looks somewhat small next to a new generation of titanic gaming notebooks with desktop-grad graphics. But that doesn't mean the Alienware can't keep up with the Joneses, because its UHD screen is one of the best displays in its class, its battery life is marathonlike next to some of its competition, and the graphics amp offers an even bigger punch (and way better longevity) than laptops with desktop Nvidia 980 GPUs.

We welcome the modern cooling design and lower heat internals that are very 2016, and the classy looking aluminum and soft touch black finishes. Pricing is more attainable too. Of course, you get an unparalleled AlienFX LED lightshow too, in all its zone programmable goodness--and that can all be turned off with the press of a button so you can take it to work and not be teased. We're impressed with the low CPU and GPU temperatures that should ensure a long life, but then Alienware had a lot of space to work with to make that happen here. Performance is as you'd expect for the hardware inside, and the laptop can handle any (any!) game on high to ultra settings up to 1440p. It can even do some games at 4K like GTA V, but not the piggish Witcher 3. And of course, like all NVIDIA Pascal 10 series machines, it's VR-ready.

Alienware 17 R4
Eine Erwähnung des Namen „Alienware“ garantiert bereits, dass sich Köpfe interessiert umdrehen, da es sich dabei um jene Marke handelt, die mit Gaming und überwältigender Leistung gleichgesetzt wird. Obwohl die Tage der letztjährigen Modelle bzw. jener aus dem Jahr 2008 gezählt sind, wirkt das Alienware 17 R4, und das trotz eines neudesignten Chassis, noch größer, schneller und lauter. Der zusätzliche Raum im Chassis wurde klug eingesetzt und kann somit zu einer besserer und stärken Performance verhelfen, was die hinzukommenden Zentimeter wieder wettmacht. Diese Systemvariante ist mit einem Intel i7-7820HK Core Prozessor der 7. Generation und einer Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 ausgestattet. Zudem kommt es mit 16 GB Speicher daher, was für die meisten Gaming-Apps ausreicht. Ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal des Alienware 17 R4, das sofort herausragt, ist die Tobii Eye-Tracking IR Kamera für Spiele, wobei dieses Feature nicht in der Low-End-Variante verbaut ist. Gehen wir nun weiter zum Display: Alienware bietet von einem 4K-IPS-Display bis hin zu einem G-Sync-QHD-TN-Panel je nach Userlaune verschiedene Optionen. An dieser Stelle sei zu erwähnen, dass beide Displays ganz gut sind – während das IPS-Panel bessere Sichtwinkel, Farblebendigkeit und eine bessere Farbwiedergabe bietet, ist das TN-Panel aufgrund der höheren Bildwiederholungsraten und G-Sync-Support etwas überlegen. Doch auch wenn es um die Eingabeoptionen geht, ist das Alinware 17 R4 keine Niete, da die Tastatur einen guten Tastenhub aufweist und die benötigte Kraft, um Tasten auszulösen, ist nicht zu hoch und führt daher auch nicht zu schneller Müdigkeit oder unabsichtlichen Tastenbefehlen. Hingegen mag das Touchpad etwaige Fehltritte aufgrund seiner Größe provozieren, ansonsten ist es allerdings akkurat und reaktionsschnell.
Die Audiowiedergabe des R4 ist ganz gut und überzeugt mit einer guten Bass-Repräsentation und Positionierung der Lautsprecher und Subwoofer an der Vorderseite, obwohl bemerkt werden muss, dass dies zu Problemen führen kann, wenn die Handballen den Sound etwas dämpfen. Generell gibt es aber keine statischen oder akustischen Unausgewogenheiten. Wie auch bei anderen Alienware Systemen bietet auch das R4 die AlienFX Software, welche eine Personalisierung von Makros, der Tastaturfarbe, des System-Monitorings, Aufnahmen und einigen Performanceprofilen erlaubt. Zuletzt möchten wir nun auch noch den Elefanten im Wohnzimmer erwähnen: Und zwar handelt es sich beim R4 um das Chassis selbst. Sicherlich hat Alienware alle Hebel umgelegt, damit das Gehäuse dem Premium-Anspruch genügt. Mit seinen gummierten Oberflächen aus Magnesium, Stahl und dem grauen Außendeckel aus eloxiertem Aluminium gelingt dies auch und das R4 ist so starr und solide wie es nur möglich ist, das führt allerdings auch zu seinem stattlichen Gewicht. Zusammenfassend wird das Alienware R4 all jene Gamer zufriedenstellen, die gleichermaßen ein Premiumdesign und Leistung verlangen, aber auch mit einem großen Loch in der Geldtasche leben können.

The Alienware 17 R5 lived up to our expectations. Performance-wise you can’t get much better. Maybe the AMD Ryzen 7 2700 can beat the Core i9-8950HK in some benchmarks but real-world performance shouldn’t be any different. And as far as GPU performance goes, the GTX 1080 is the best on the market for now. We are waiting for NVIDIA’s new GPUs which should release soon judging by all the rumors.

Alienware: Alienware wurde 1996 in den USA gegründet. Die europäische Hauptniederlassung befindet sich in Irland. Alienware gehört seit 2006 zum Dell-Konzern. Die Produktpalette fokussiert vor allem Gaming-Laptops und -Desktops, die von Dell entwickelt und hergestellt werden. Markenzeichen ist ein leicht futuristisch anmutendes Design mit einem Alien als Logo. Zusätzlich werden Workstations für Privat- und Geschäftskunden vertrieben.
Wie bei jeder Marke gibt es auch bei Alienware einige Kritikpunkte. Einige Kunden haben sich über die hohen Preise der Produkte beschwert, während andere die Qualität der Kundendienstleistungen bemängelt haben. Es gab auch einige Berichte über Probleme mit der Zuverlässigkeit und Haltbarkeit einiger Alienware-Produkte. Allerdings haben viele Kunden auch positive Erfahrungen mit der Marke gemacht und schätzen die leistungsstarken Gaming-Computer.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen.
