Als preiswerter Vertreter der Turing-Serie lässt Nvidia neben den RTX-Modellen die GTX-Serie weiterleben. Genauer gesagt handelt es sich um die GeForce GTX 1650, GeForce GTX 1660 und die GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Letztere hatten wir vor kurzem im Test und die GTX 1660 Ti lieferte eine solide Performance, wenn man überwiegend in 1.080p zockt. Allein die Namensgebung deutet darauf hin, dass die GeForce GTX 1650 kein High-End-Modell ist. Vielmehr eignet sich die Grafikkarte für HTPC’s welche nicht viel Platz bieten. Da auf einen separaten Stromanschluss verzichtet wird, muss kein übergroßes Netzteil verbaut werden. In Zahlen bedeutet dies, dass die GTX 1650 mit maximal 75 Watt TDP auskommen muss, denn das ist die maximal zulässige Leistungsaufnahme, welche über den PCIe-Anschluss möglich ist.
Zum Testzeitpunkt gibt es die Grafikkarte ab 155 Euro im Handel, was leider kein Schnäppchen ist. Demzufolge muss sich die Grafikkarte mit der inzwischen etwas preiswerteren AMD Radeon RX 570 messen. Diese ist zum Testzeitpunkt mit 135 Euro gelistet.
Bei den externen Anschlüssen gibt es bei unserer Testkarte von Gainward nur einen HDMI (2.0b) – und einen DVI-Ausgang. Positiv hervorzuheben ist die 36-monatige Herstellergarantie.

Als Testsystem dient eine aktuelle AMD-Plattform auf Basis des Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi. Die CPU, ein AMD RYZEN 7 2700X, bietet eine gute CPU-Leistung und als Kühlung nutzen wir eine AIO (Be Quiet Silent Loop 280mm). Der 16-GB-Arbeitsspeicher stammt von G-Skill und taktet mit 3.400 MHz. Der Acer Predator XB321HK schränkt uns aufgrund der UHD-Tauglichkeit nicht ein. Ein großer Dank geht an dieser Stelle an AMD für die Bereitstellung der Testplattform.

Die Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 für Desktops ist eine Einstiegs-Gaming-Grafikkarte basierend auf der Turing Architektur. Sie basiert auf den TU117 Chip und wurde Ende April 2019 vorgestellt. Die GTX 1650 Serie bietet im Unterschied zu den stärkeren RTX 2000er Karten (z.B. RTX 2060) keine Raytracing und Tensor Kerne. Die Leistung sollte etwas oberhalb einer GTX 1050 Ti sein, jedoch bei deutlich geringerem Stromverbrauch. Obwohl die mobile Variante der GTX1650 den selben Namen trägt, ist sie etwas langsamer (durch geringere Taktung des Chips).
Bei der Turing Architektur gab es auch auf der Ebene der CUDA-Kerne deutliche Verbesserungen. Float und INT Operationen können nun gleichzeitig ausgeführt werden, der Cache wurde vereinheitlicht und verbessert und Adaptive Shading eingeführt. Nvidia spricht dadurch von einer bis zu 50% höheren Leistung pro Kern im Vergleich zu Pascal.
Im Gegensatz zu den größeren Turing Chips (wie den TU116 der GTX 1660 Ti) bietet der TU117 nur die älteren NVENC Videoenkodierung der Pascal / Volta Generation.
Nvidia spezifiziert einen Stromverbrauch von 75 Watt TGP (Total Graphics Power) für die Grafikkarte. Der TU117 Chip wird bei TSMC im 12nm FFN Verfahren gefertigt.

Unsere Testkarte, die Gainward GeForce GTX 1650 Pegasus OC (DVI) besitzt 896 Shadereinheiten, welche mit einem Basistakt von 1.485 MHz betrieben werden. Im Boost erreicht der Grafikchip bis zu 1.725 MHz. Damit arbeitet die GeForce GTX 1650 Perasus OC etwas über den Spezifikatzionen, welche der Hersteller vorgibt.
Alternativ gibt es die GeForce GTX 1650 auch mit separatem 6-Pin-Stomanschluss, wodurch ein höherer Boost von bis zu 1.815 MHz möglich ist. Laut Herstellerangaben ist die Gainward GeForce GTX 1650 Ghost OC ebenfalls mit einer TDP von 75 Watt angegeben, was allerdings aufgrund des separaten Stromanschlusses unter Last überschritten werden kann. Auf den Markt haben es inzwischen auch Low-Profile-Karten geschafft, was vor allem für sehr kleine Gehäuse interessant ist.
Aufgrund der Preisgestaltung ergibt sich als Gegenspieler seitens AMD die AMD Radeon RX 570. Diverse Modelle der RX 570 sind zum Testzeitpunkt sogar preiswerter als die GeForce GTX 1650 von Gainward. Für diesen Test haben wir von Sapphire ein Modell der RX 570 ergattern können. Die Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 570 Boostet ebenfalls etwas höher als das Referenzmodell, genauso wie bei der GTX 1650. Mit 180 Euro ist die Karte rund 25 Euro teurer als die GeForce GTX 1650. Da es die RX 570 allerdings schon eine Weile auf dem Grafikkartenmarkt gibt, lässt sich unter Umständen ein Schnäppchen auf dem Gebrauchtwarenmarkt machen. Außerdem steht der Launch der Navi-GPU’s an, was ebenfalls noch Auswirkungen auf die älteren Modelle haben sollte.
Beim Blick auf die GPU-Spezifikationen auf der rechten Seite wird schnell klar, dass es die GTX 1650 gegen die RX 570 sehr schwer haben wird sich durchzusetzen. Allein bei den Shadereinheiten kann die AMD-Karte mit 2.048 Einheiten deutlich punkten und auch beim VRAM bietet das AMD-Modell mit 8-GB-GDDR5 gleich doppelt so viel, wie im Vergleich zur GTX 1650. Erhältlich ist die RX 570 jedoch auch mit 4-GB-VRAM.
Wie zu erwarten war, kann die Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 nicht mit der AMD Radeon RX 570 mithalten. Die zu geringe Anzahl an Shadereinheiten fordert seinen Tribut, sodass hier im Vergleich nur der letzte Platz an die Gainward-Grafikkarte geht.
Beim Fire-Strike-Benchmark kann sich die RX 570 ca. 50 Prozent mehr Leistung erzielen. Der Rückstand auf eine Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 ist mit 41 Prozent zwar etwas geringer, aber nicht von der Hand zu weisen.

Bei den Spiele-Benchmarks fällt der Rückstand der GTX 1650 auf die Radeon RX 570 deutlich geringer aus. Je nach Spiel muss sich die Gainward GeForce GTX 1650 allerdings trotzdem mit mindestens 20 Prozent weniger Frameraten begnügen. In hohen Auflösungen und sehr hohen Details hat es die GTX 1650 jedoch auch aufgrund des geringen VRAM deutlich schwieriger, mit der Konkurrenz mitzuhalten.
Trotzdem gelingt es der GeForce GTX 1650 bei den meisten Games in High-Preset flüssige Frameraten auf den Bildschirm zu bringen. Einzige Ausnahme ist derzeit Metro Exodus. Hier waren es nur durchschnittlich 31 FPS.
Beim Blick auf den Frameverlauf, welchen wir mit The Witcher 3 (Ultra-Preset) aufgezeichnet haben, zeigt sich, dass die kleine Kühleinheit der Gainward GeForce GTX 1650 keinerlei Probleme mit der Wärmeentwicklung hat. Längere Spielesessions sind mit dieser Karte kein Problem und auch in engen Gehäusen mit wenig Luftzirkulation sollte es keine Leistungseinbußen geben. Mit durchschnittlich 43 FPS absolviert die GeForce GTX 1650 den The Wicher 3 Stresstest. Gier sind keinen Framedrops erkennbar, welche auf eine zu heiße GPU hindeuten.

Der wohl bedeutendste Grund zu einer GeForce GTX 1650 zu greifen liegt bei der sehr geringen Leistungsaufnahme. Im Leerlauf gibt es jedoch noch keinen klaren Sieger, wenngleich das Testsystem mit der GTX 1650 trotzdem nur 64,6 Watt verbraucht. Das gleiche System, bestückt mit der Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 570 begnügt sich hier mit 72,6 Watt. Der Unterschied geht vermutlich zulasten der etwas größeren Kühleinheit.
Beim Spielen ist der Energieverbrauch beider Grafikkarten aber viel deutlicher, denn das Testsystem mit der GeForce GTX 1650 lag im Durchschnitt bei 178,8 Watt, wenngleich die RX 570 knapp 100 Watt mehr verbrauchte.
Temperaturprobleme konnten wir beiden GPU’s nicht feststellen. Die Gainward GeForce GTX 1650 Pegasus OC erreichte beim Stresstest 65 °C. Die Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 570 wurde bei gleichen Bedingungen mit 73 °C nur etwas wärmer, was aber auch kein Problem für Dauerbelastungen darstellt.
Hörbar sind beide Karten unter Last. Da es sich jedoch nicht um ein hochfrequentes Lüfterrauschen handelt, hält sich die Belastung für den Anwender in Grenzen. Unser Test-PC steht mit geöffneter Seitenklappe direkt auf dem Schreibtisch. Somit sollte bei geschlossenem PC unter dem Schreibtisch die Geräuschkulisse kaum noch wahrzunehmen sein.

Da sich die Grafikkarte nur mit 75 Watt begnügen muss, bleibt nicht mehr viel Spielraum für manuelles Übertakten. Das haben wir anfangs auch gedacht, denn zu allem Überfluss lässt sich das Power-Target nicht über 100 Prozent hinaus erhöhen. Trotzdem war ein stabiler Betrieb mit 100 MHz mehr GPU-Takt möglich. Den VRAM konnten wir sogar um weitere 850 MHz übertakten und mit diesen Einstellungen den Fire Strike durchlaufen. Unterm Strich lag der Graphics-Score um 10 Prozent höher als im Vergleich zum Stock-Betrieb.
Mitunter lohnt es sich also, die GeForce GTX 1650 etwas zu übertakten. Da sich das Power-Target in unserem Fall nicht erhöhen lässt, bleibt es bei den 75 Watt TDP.
Die Lücke zur schnelleren Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 570 lässt sich jedoch auch mit den höheren Taktraten nicht schließen.
Dass Nvidia weitere Turing-Ableger präsentiert, war nur eine Frage der Zeit, denn Pascal ist inzwischen abgelöst. Mit der GeForce GTX 1650 hatten wir eine kleine Mittelklasse-GPU, welche es aufgrund der Preisgestaltung nicht einfach haben wird. Mit 155 Euro schlägt die Testkarte (Gainward GeForce GTX 1650 Pegasus OC (DVI)) zu Buche. Für diesen Preis bekommt man eine AMD Radeon RX 570 oder aber auch eine Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, welche beide mehr VRAM und mehr Leistung bieten.
Zum großen Vorteil der GeForce GTX 1650 zählt in erster Linie die geringe Leistungsaufnahme. Hier konnte sich unsere Testkarte deutlich von den Kontrahenten absetzen. Als weiteres Argument für einen Kauf spricht die sehr kompakte Größe. Zotac hat beispielsweise sogar schon eine GTX 1650 im Low-Profile-Format angekündigt, womit sich kompakte HTPC’s mit einer durchaus brauchbaren GPU bestücken lässt.
Rein objektiv betrachtet kann die GeForce GTX 1650 fast alle aktuellen Titel in 1.080p mit hohen Details flüssig darstellen. Abstriche müssen nur bei Metro Exodus gemacht werden, denn hier sind die Frameraten nur bei mittleren Details passabel.
Wer momentan auf der Suche nach einer kompakten Grafikkarte und zugleich sparsamen Grafikkarte ist, macht beim Griff zu einer GeForce GTX 1650 nicht viel falsch. Ein fader Beigeschmack bleibt hinsichtlich des zu hohen Preises.
