The Y530's 15.4" screen, with its native resolution of 1280x800, was bright, and sharp, with good color reproduction and a quick response time.

It uses the Intel GM45 chipset that gives it some amazing features one wouldn't expect in a low cost PC such as speedy DDR3 memory, draft-n wireless support and newer integrated graphics. This would all be great if Lenovo didn't use an older 32-bit Intel Pentium Dual Core processor that limits the system to 32-bit software. If users can accept this slower processor, they do end up with a very feature packed laptop for the money.

Leider nützt dem Nutzer eine Luminanz von zirka 320 cd/m² wenig, da die Akkulaufzeit des 2.000 mAh Akkus die 90 Minuten nicht überschreiten dürfte.

The Y650 is designed with mobility in mind when others (ahem, other Windows laptops) with similar screens are at least a pound heavier. Yet it can also fill the void left by an old desktop. While we are glad to see the graphics performance of the Y650 exceeds the performance of the old Y530, the new NVIDIA GeForce G 105M dedicated graphics card just didn't perform as well in games compared to other 16-inch notebooks we've tested. That said, the Y650 is thinner and lighter than any other 16-inch notebook we've seen ... and the discrete graphics card in this machine is perfectly capable of handling HD video decoding and digital audio out over HDMI for watching movies on your HDTV. If you're looking for an attractive entertainment notebook for your family the Y650 makes a great choice, but if you need a high-end gaming notebook this isn't it.

System performance was more than adequate for everyday use with our configuration ... and if you have gaming in mind Lenovo has alternative builds for that purpose.

Throw in a discrete graphics card from ATI and then you'll really be flying along, but you'll also increase the base price to almost $1000, which is still competitive, but not cheap. Overall, we liked the design and options we found on the Sony Vaio NW, though many of the extras seem to be conceits for Sony fans, like the extra Memory Stick slot or the choice of i.Link (Sony's brand name for FireWire) over eSata for an expansion port.

The downsides of this notebook are significant. At the top of the list is the so-so build quality; the Y560d's flexible plastic construction does not inspire confidence. Furthermore, glossy plastic covers all visible surfaces and is impossible to keep clean. Another design issue is the gaudy-looking tattoo on the back of the lid what is that all about? The sub-three hour battery life may be a turnoff for some. Last but not least, the low resolution (1366x768) screen hurts usability and productivity.

Lenovo:
Lenovo („Le“ vom englischen legend, novo (Latein) für neu) wurde 1984 als chinesische Computerhandelsfirma gegründet. Ab 2004 war die Firma der größte Laptop-Hersteller Chinas und nach der Übernahme der PC-Sparte von IBM im Jahr 2005 der viertgrößte weltweit. Neben Desktops und Notebooks stellt das Unternehmen Monitore, Beamer, Server etc her und hat sich auf die Entwicklung, Herstellung und Vermarktung von Unterhaltungselektronik, Personalcomputern, Software, Unternehmenslösungen und damit verbundenen Dienstleistungen spezialisiert.
Im Jahr 2016 belegte das Unternehmen weltweit den ersten Platz bei den Computerverkäufen. Auch 2023 hatte es ihn noch inne bei ca 23% Weltmarktanteil. Wichtige Produktreihen sind Thinkpad, Legion und Ideapad.
2011 wurde die Mehrheit der Medion AG übernommen, einem europäischen Computer-Hardware-Hersteller. 2014 wurde Motorola Mobility gekauft, wodurch Lenovo einen Schub am Smartphone-Markt erreichte.
Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen. Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600: DirectX 10 Konkurrent der 8600M GS mit zahlreichen Videofunktionen (Avivo HD). In Spielen jedoch teilweise deutlich schneller.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Im GM45, GS45 und GE45 Chipsatz (Montevina Plattform) integrierte shared Memory Grafikkarte von Intel. Durch höhere Taktung und mehr Shader ist sie deutlich schneller als die X3100, jedoch immer noch nicht für Spieler empfehlenswert. Kann HD-Videos (AVC/VC2/MPEG2) dekodieren und so die CPU entlasten.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650: In 55nm gefertigter DirectX 10.1 Mittelklasse-Grafikchip mit vergleichbarer Leistung einer 8600M GT Grafikkarte. Dank Avivo Video Engine kann die Grafikkarte den Prozessor bei verschiedensten Videooperationen (auch HD Video) entlasten.
NVIDIA GeForce G 105M: Höhergetaktete 9300M GS und dadurch auch etwas schneller. Weiterhin in 65nm gefertigt. Unterstützt Hybrid-SLI mit HybridPower und GeForceBoost.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: Im GL40 oder GS40 Chipsatz (Montevina Plattform) integrierte shared Memory Grafikkarte von Intel. Technisch eine geringer getaktete GMA 4500MHD (400 MHz versus 533) und durch den geringeren Takt auch kein BlueRay Logo Support.
3D Spiele sind auf diesen Vertretern nur in Ausnahmen spielbar, grundsätzlich sind die Grafiklösungen hierfür jedoch nicht geeignet. Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem möglich sein.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100: Integrierte shared Memory Grafikkarte von Intel, die im 965GM und GL960 Chipsatz eingebaut ist. Dank voll programmierbarer Pipeline DX 10 fähig (mit Treibern seit 15.9.0.1472). Gute Performance für eine integrierte Grafikkarte, jedoch trotzdem kaum spielefähig.
Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650: Nachfolger der 4650 mit DirectX 11 und bereits in 40nm gefertigt. Kann von 450-650 MHz getaktet werden.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730: Die HD 5730 ist eine höhergetaktete Radeon HD 5650 Mittelklasse Grafikkarte mit DirectX 11 Support. GDDR5 wird bei der HD 5730 nicht unterstützt, wodurch der 128 Bit Speicherbus mit DDR3 zum Flaschenhals werden kann.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M: Die GeForce GT 240M besitzt, wie die alte GeForce 9700M GTS 48 Shaderkerne jedoch nur einen 128 Bit Speicherbus und niedrigere Taktraten. Dank 40nm Prozess bleibt der Stromverbrauch jedoch deutlich niedriger, in der Region der 130M / 9600M GT. Im Vergleich zur GT 230M sind die Taktraten höher, der TDP ist jedoch gleich spezifiziert.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M: Schnelle Mittelklasse-Grafikkarte der GeForce-GT-700M-Baureihe. Basiert auf der Kepler-Architektur und wird von TSMC in einem 28-nm-Prozess gefertigt.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.
Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.
T9300:
Der Core 2 Duo T9300 ist ein schneller Mittelklasse Prozessor mit 2.5 GHz und 6 MB Level 2 Cache. Verglichen mit dem etwas schnelleren T9400, bietet der T9300 einen geringer getakteten FSB.
T5450: OEM Prozessor
P8700:
Mittelklasse Zweikern Notebookprozessor mit relativ geringem Stromverbrauch und 3 MB Level 2 Cache. Die schnelleren Versionen besitzen bereits 6 MB Cache.
Intel Pentium Dual Core: Abgespeckter Core Duo mit nur 1MB L2 Cache
T3200: Einstiegs-Doppelkernprozessor basierend auf den alten Merom Kern jedoch wahrscheinlich mit leicht eingschränkten Stromsparmechanismen.
T4200:
Der Intel Pentium T4200 ist ein Dual-Core Einstiegs Prozessor von Intel mit jediglich 1 MB Level 2 Cache und ohne Virtualisierungsfunktionen. Dem T4200 fehlen im Vergleich zur Core 2 Duo Linie auch einige Stromsparfunktionen.
T4300: Der Intel Pentium T4300 ist ein Dual-Core Einstiegs-Mittelklasse Prozessor von Intel mit jediglich 1 MB Level 2 Cache und ohne Virtualisierungsfunktionen. Dem T4300 fehlen im Vergleich zur Core 2 Duo Linie auch einige Stromsparfunktionen.
Intel Core 2 Extreme: Die höchstgetaktete CPU von Intels Core 2 Duo Serie wird als Core 2 Extreme (mit saftigem Aufpreis) verkauft. Als besonderheit wurde bei den Extreme Prozessoren der Übertaktungsschutz entfernt.
X9100: Der X9100 ist der schnellste Dual Core der Core 2 Serie und kann dank freiem Multiplikator einfach übertaktet werden. Später wurde der X9100 praktisch vom billigeren und sparsameren T9900 abgelöst.
Intel Core i3:
330M: Der Core i3-330M ist ein Mittelklasse Dual-Core Prozessor ohne Turbo Boost Modus. Daher läuft die CPU mit max. 2.13 GHz. Durch Hyperthreading werden bis zu 4 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeitet. Im Package ist auch noch eine integrierte Grafikkarte (GMA HD mit 500-667 MHz) und ein Speichercontroller (beide noch 45nm Fertigung). Dadurch ist der gesamte TDP von 35 Watt nicht sehr hoch.
350M: Der Core i3-350M ist ein Core i5-430M, jedoch ohne Turbo Boost und geringer getaktete GPU. Dadurch läuft die CPU mit maximal 2.26 GHz. Durch Hyperthreading werden bis zu 4 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeitet. Im Package ist auch noch eine integrierte Grafikkarte (GMA HD mit 500-667 MHz) und ein Speichercontroller (beide noch 45nm Fertigung). Dadurch ist der gesamte TDP von 35 Watt nicht sehr hoch.
Intel Core i7:
720QM: Der Core i7-720QM war zur Zeit der Einführung der langsamste Core i7-9xx Quad Core Prozessor. Er taktet dank Turbo Modus automatisch zwischen 1.6-2.8 GHz. Außerdem unterstützt er Hyperthreading zur gleichzeitigen Abarbeitung von 8 Threads. Im Vergleich zu den stärkeren Core i7 bietet er außerdem nur 6MB L3 Cache.
4700MQ: Auf der Haswell-Architektur basierender Quad-Core Prozessor mit mit integrierter Grafikkarte und DDR3-Speicherkontroller.

14 Zoll Display-Grösse stellt ein Mittelding zwischen den kleinen Subnotebook-Formaten und den Bildschirmen der 15 Zoll-Standard-Laptops dar.
Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist, gute Auflösungen mit brauchbaren Detailgrößen liefern und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.
Früher waren 14 Zoll-Geräte sehr selten, jetzt stellen sie nach den 15-Zollern den Standard bei Laptops dar.
16.00: Dieser Bereich für Displayformate war und ist eine Seltenheit. Es ist größer als der allgemeine Standard von 15 Zoll, aber noch nicht im Bereich der großen Workstations. Man hat üblicherweise höhere Bildschirmauflösungen zur Verfügung, darunter leidet aber auch die Portabilität.
17.00: Diese Displaygrösse ist ein Standardformat für Desktop-Replacements. Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind. Dafür genießt man die Vorzüge hoher Auflösungen (mehr Details, besser lesbar).
