At the end of the day the ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501JW is one of the nicest premium Windows notebooks you’ll find in stores this year … but it isn’t perfect and we think it’s fair to look for perfection when you’re paying more than $1500 for a laptop. When other premium 15-inch systems like the Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro and the MSI PE60 Prestige offer similar performance for between $500 and $700 less we start to have trouble justifying the higher price of the ZenBook Pro even if this notebook has a nicer screen and more durable build quality. If 4K resolution and a premium fit and finish are things you must have in a 15-inch notebook then the UX501JW is an excellent choice.

Neue Sichtweise. Erst kürzlich hielten wir das US-Modell des Asus UX501JW in unseren Händen und waren vom Gesamtkonzept inklusive 4k-Display angetan. Nun stellt sich das Zenbook in Deutschland mit mattem Display vor. Leider hat sich nicht alles zum Besseren entwickelt.
Asus ZenBook Pro UX501-FJ221H
Das Asus ZenBook Pro UX501 bietet eine High-End-Spezifikation wie man sie üblicherweise in teureren Laptops antrifft. Der 15,6 Zoll große QHD-Bildschirm mit einer Auflösung von 3840 x 2160 Pixeln liefert gestochen scharfe, feine Details in Photos und Videos bis zu in winzigsten Texten und eignet sich daher ausgezeichnet für Office- und Multimedia-Arbeit. Allerdings wurde er nicht entspiegelt, sodass Reflexionen auch bei maximaler Helligkeit ein Problem sein können. Trotzdem erleichtert die erstaunliche Auflösung Photo- und Videobearbeitung sehr und sogar beim Web-Surfen ist der kleinste Text leicht lesbar. Zudem sind die Blickwinkel sehr gut. Aufgrund des weiteren Idealbereichs macht gemeinsames Videoschauen in einer Gruppe mehr Freude. Eine Gummierung entlang der Bildschirmkante schottet den Tastaturbereich bei geschlossenem Deckel ab. Das Scharnier ist robust und verdeckt die Lüftergrille, sodass ein Einsatz auf den Oberschenkeln nicht durch heiße Luft beeinträchtigt wird. Ein Intel i74720HQ Quad-Core-Prozessor mit 16 GB RAM liefert Leistung auf Desktop-Level. Eine 512 GB SSD mit einer Transferrate von 1400 MB/s sorgt für maximale Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit. Die Datenübertragung ist nicht nur schnell, sondern auch zuverlässig und absolut lautlos. Das Zenbook Pro nutzt die nächste Generation Dual-Band-802.11ac-WiFi mit Geschwindigkeiten von bis zu 867 Mbits/s. Das ist dreimal so schnell wie bei der 802.11n Vorgängergeneration. The 4K display is stunning and is superb for office and multimedia work. The SSD also delivers some of the fastest read-write speeds we've come across. Then, there's the aluminium build, powerful internals and decent battery life on top of all of that. Having a 4K resolution on such a small screen results in a few niggles. Not all applications adhere to Window's scaling guidelines so you might be forced to use apps at 100-percent resolution, where menus and text can get unreadably small. The lower bezel of the display also tends to get very hot, even without gaming. This isn't something you'll notice with regular use but we hope it doesn't have an adverse effect in the long run. Finally, the screen is quite reflective which makes it difficult to use under sunlight or even indoors, with artificial lighting behind you. Even maxing out the brightness level doesn't fix this.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. ist ein großer taiwanesischer Hersteller von Computer-Hardware mit Sitz in Taipeh, gegründet 1989. Unter dem Markennamen Asus fertigt das Unternehmen eine breite Palette von Produkten, darunter Laptops, Desktops, Motherboards, Grafikkarten, Monitore, Smartphones und Netzwerkgeräte, Komplettsysteme und PC-Bauteile für Endkunden.
Unter dem Markennamen ROG (Republic of Gamers) stellt ASUS Gaming-Laptops her, die bei Spielern für ihre leistungsstarken Spezifikationen, dedizierten Grafikkarten, Displays mit hoher Bildwiederholrate und fortschrittlichen Kühlsystemen bekannt sind.

Die Kundenzufriedenheit mit ASUS-Notebooks betrifft Leistung, die Funktionen und das gute Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis der ASUS-Notebooks. Wie bei jeder Marke gibt es jedoch gelegentlich Berichte über Probleme wie Überhitzung, Treiberkompatibilität oder Probleme mit der Verarbeitungsqualität.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

i5-7300HQ: Auf der Kaby-Lake-Architektur basierender Quad-Core Prozessor für größere Notebooks mit vier CPU Kernen und ohne HyperThreading welche mit 2,5 bis 3,5 GHz getaktet werden. Schwächster Quad-Core der Kaby Lake Generation Anfang 2017. Integriert eine Intel HD Graphics 630 GPU mit 350 - 1000 MHz und wird in 14 nm (verbessert im Vergleich zu Skylake) gefertigt.
Intel Coffee Lake:
i7-8750H: Auf der Coffee-Lake-Architektur basierender SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für große Notebooks. Integriert unter anderem sechs CPU-Kerne mit 2,2 - 4,1 GHz (4 GHz bei 4 Kernen, 3,9 GHz bei allen 6 Kernen) und HyperThreading sowie eine Grafikeinheit und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt.
Intel Tiger Lake:
i7-1165G7: Auf der Tiger-Lake-Architektur basierender ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für schlanke Notebooks und Ultrabooks. Integriert unter anderem vier CPU-Kerne mit 2,8 - 4,7 GHz und HyperThreading sowie eine starke Iris Xe G7 Grafikeinheit und wird in 10-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt (10nm+).

14 Zoll Display-Grösse stellt ein Mittelding zwischen den kleinen Subnotebook-Formaten und den Bildschirmen der 15 Zoll-Standard-Laptops dar.
Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist, gute Auflösungen mit brauchbaren Detailgrößen liefern und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.
Früher waren 14 Zoll-Geräte sehr selten, jetzt stellen sie nach den 15-Zollern den Standard bei Laptops dar.
