Motorola is not at the cutting edge of camera processing, or fast charging or display technology. But the Motorola Edge 40 Pro see it pick out some of the highlights of the more dynamic brands to piece together a pretty satisfying flagship phone. It has a powerful processor, super-fast 125W charging and a strong, if not quite world-beating, camera array on the back. As a result the Motorola Edge 40 Pro is pretty good at everything. With the next wave not far off at the time of review, I’d suggest waiting for a discount, but that also applies to the Samsung Galaxy S23 range at this point. And if photography is your main thing, consider the Pixel 8 Pro as it has a more powerful zoom and more consistent image processing.

In this smartphone, everything is in its place, not only because I have a fondness for the Motorola brand, but it is actually a phone that can be used every day without feeling any inconvenience. This is certainly one of the best Moto models that have come out in a long time. Despite spending almost 899 euros, this phone will be a good investment, especially for people who have previously used products of this brand and are its fans. It has the iconic for Motorola's attributes to like. For others looking for a top-end phone, it may not be an obvious choice, but it's still a very good proposition. This phone has no obvious shortcomings or shortcomings, and all aspects are refined to the end. This is one of those smartphones that clearly stand out with their quality and capabilities this year.

The Edge 40 Pro is the senior model in Motorola's current smartphone lineup, using a top-of-the-line chipset and a high-quality OLED screen with a 165Hz refresh rate. It has high performance, very good battery life and an overall high-quality camera. The disadvantages are the average quality of telephoto shots and the high price (~33 thousand UAH). Although compared to other Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 models, its price looks quite competitive.

The closest competitor to today’s hero seems to be the OnePlus 11, but given the fact that Motorola is now experiencing a second birth, and OnePlus, once considered a flagship brand and unconditionally trusted, has made many mistakes in recent years, it is worth betting on the Edge 40 Pro or its cheaper brother, the Edge 40. The Edge 40 Pro has a high-quality display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz, a battery, the capabilities provided by the Motorola shell, and sophisticated personalisation. You might wonder how good the camera is, but I think it does the job, so you shouldn’t worry about the quality of the photos you take with the Edge 40 Pro. On my own behalf, I will say yes once again. Look at what Motorola is doing these days, in a good way.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro is an excellent option in the flagship space for those whose focus is on power and performance – but it’s likely to be less appealing to the rest of us. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, generous 12GB RAM, and lightning-fast 165Hz display make this a surprisingly compelling option for gamers and power users, especially since all that power comes in a svelte, lightweight package. The camera is the biggest drawback. Not because it’s bad – far from it – but because at this price point its competition is excellent. If you’re focussed on photography this won’t be the phone for you, but if you just need your camera to be good enough for Instagram then this fits the bill.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro delivered a fairly underwhelming performance overall. Most notably, the sound signature was quite unpleasant and aggressive in both audio playback and recording. In playback, the Edge 40 Pro was most suited for gaming and watching movies, but showed poor results in the music use case. The device had accurate localizability of individual sound sources and good distance rendition, but the tonal balance and dynamic performance were poor. In recording, the Edge 40 Pro performed on a similar level across all apps used for testing. The recordings were very loud and hardly affected by wind or finger noises. However, the tonal balance was unpleasant and both compression and distortion were often very noticeable.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro provided a mixed display performance. It was quite readable during the night and in indoor conditions, but when in sunlight, the screen lacked the necessary brightness and details to be comfortably readable. The device displayed vivid and attractive colors, while keeping skin ones natural and realistic. The Edge 40 Pro screen’s biggest weakness was its video experience in default mode. Video content was difficult to watch because of the lack of brightness, contrast and dark tones, which might require the user to have to manually adjust the brightness to improve the experience. The device’s good touch accuracy and response time make it good for gaming, despite some frame mismatches and image aliasing.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro is an excellent bid for a top mobile phone from the Lenovo-owned mobile phone manufacturer. In particular, its towering performance, long battery life and fast charging significantly lift the overall impression. The same goes for the sleek and elegant design, which is both IP68-certified and protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. The screen is beautiful and bright, while the fast refresh rate ensures a smooth user experience. It’s acceptable that the screen resolution could have been higher. Unfortunately, the camera drags down the overall rating. Ambitions may have been high, but perhaps Motorola should consider following in the footsteps of Xiaomi and OnePlus, who have both teamed up with camera experts from Leica and Hasselblad respectively. This has given the two manufacturers’ flagship products a boost that Motorola could also use. If the camera is not so important, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro is perhaps the best Android mobile phone you can buy right now. It’s a great value for money.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro delivered a good performance across most areas of our image quality tests. When shooting still images, subject exposure and white balance were nice in most test conditions, especially in low light and night shots. The autofocus did its job swiftly and accurately in bright light, and the camera generally produced a good texture/noise trade-off. However, our testers observed some contrast issues in challenging high-contrast scenes, which could result in clipping and tone compression. In video, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro ranks below the very best devices in its class, generally allowing the user to record high quality video clips in fairly static scenes. Video footage offered accurate exposure and white balance, as well as acceptable levels of detail (albeit with some slight oversharpening). Temporal noise was well under control with fairly static scenes.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro is a good affordable flagship phone, offering many attractive features. We're taken by the design, the large display with curved edges sitting neatly into the hand, with a quality to the build backed up by IP68 protection. The display is excellent and there's no shortage of power, boosted by decent battery life and fast charging - with the charger included in the box. That makes for a great day-to-day experience of living with this phone. The camera makes a lot of promises with a plethora of high-resolution lenses, but doesn't deliver in all areas. The zoom performance isn't great and the low-light shooting could be better, but in typical daily use, the camera offers pleasing results, especially when it comes to portraits.

Motorola has made its best flagship in years: the Edge 40 Pro definitely feels fast, it defies expectations with longer than expected battery life, and even the camera is quite solid. But we feel Motorola should have done more to convince users it will actually support this phone. The number one complaint against Motorola phone is not about their design or performance, it's about the lack of timely software updates and support. The three years of major Android updates no longer cut it as Samsung and OnePlus have stepped up to four years, plus users need to know Motorola will actually deliver these updates on time. The excellent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip is a massive boost for the whole Android ecosystem and the Motorola Edge 40 Pro benefits from this incredible chip. If you want something different, appreciate its sleek design and unique features like the slight curves all around for easier scrolling or the Moto gestures, or just want a super smooth gaming phone, we think you will like the Edge 40 Pro. The slight deficits in the camera department prevent us from recommending this to photo buffs specifically, but if you are not one of them, you should definitely take a closer look at this exciting new phone.

The Edge 40 Pro is the closest thing you’ll get to a Pixel-like experience without buying one of Google’s handsets, with high-end smartphone bells and whistles; including a super-high refresh rate and very fast charging. Though the camera isn’t the best, it is very good, and the versatility of its sensors plus the ability for raw capture means you can tweak results, if you so desire. If only Motorola was as good with delivering timely OS updates as Google, then this phone would have very few cons.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro is an excellent high-end option if your priority is performance, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and a 165Hz display that unlocks new frame rates while gaming. The drawback is a camera that’s merely good, never great, which can be a dealbreaker at this price point.

All things considered, the Edge 40 Pro does a lot right and makes few missteps. If we were to complain about something, it would be daylight photo quality that somehow doesn't live up to the hardware's potential. It's by no means bad (well, portrait mode aside) - it's just not impressive in any way. The other thing we could think to mention as a con is the slippery finish on the back, but that's easily classified as nitpicking. That slippery finish has Victus underneath, and the high-end glass on both sides coupled with the fine curves all around and a dust- and water-resistant build mean the Edge 40 Pro is as pretty to look at as it is durable (at least in theory). Motorola's boundary-pushing in the display field makes the Edge 40 Pro the only non-gaming phone with a 165Hz refresh rate, and if you're one to enjoy extra smoothness, this one delivers. Battery life and charging speed are among the best in class, and the speakers, if not necessarily the best-sounding, are plenty loud too. Motorola's software strikes possibly the best balance of looking like Google's own take on Android, while offering proprietary added-value functionality. The promise for long-term support is also most welcome, and the top-tier chipset should help as well. And while the camera is just okay in daylight, it comes into its own at night, with dependable auto night mode implementation across the board and better-than-most zoomed-in shots. The great selfies can also be a selling point for the right user. To sum it all up, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro is an all-round very capable package that should be able to satisfy the needs of the vast majority of users, and deserves a recommendation.

Unboxing the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, a 2023 flagship smartphone serving up a 50MP camera, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 gaming chops and beefy specs. Here in the UK, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro packs a £800 asking price - but how does it compare vs the Samsung Galaxy S23, Pixel 7 and other rivals? This hands-on review reveals all! Well, the camera is certainly the weak point here. You don't have a huge 200MP or 1-inch sensor, unlike the Edge 30 Ultra, and the Moto Edge 40 Pro pumps out quite standard photos. Still, it'll satisfy most users for everyday simple shots, with a Portrait and Pro mode and up to 8K video recording. The Motorola Edge 40 Pro can also smash through the most demanding Android games like Genshin Impact. The Qualcomm chipset, plus light Android experience, means smooth visuals even under duress. That display supports 165Hz refresh, while you also get some stereo speakers. As usual it's a stock Android 13 experience. The Motorola Edge 40 Pro serves up Moto's usual bonus bits however, including that GameTime mode for gaming on the go.

Motorola delivers a flagship experience in the Edge 40 Pro that will challenge some phones are that are much more expensive, so it represents good value for money. But it's not the only phone in this space, with strong competition from the likes of Google. There's more recent hardware in the Edge 40 Pro however, and that fast charging might just convince you to say Hello Moto when you choose your next smartphone.

While it’s not a looker, the Moto Edge 40 Pro packs a lot into a £799 phone. Plenty of top-end specs, all the megapixels you could ask for and seriously snappy charging. The OnePlus 11 and Galaxy S23 have a true rival.

A blend of high-end hardware and competitive pricing makes the Motorola Edge 40 Pro a tempting alternative to many big-name rivals. You get ample performance, day-long battery life, a vibrant display and slick (if somewhat restrained) styling, plus it manages to squeeze in a few features you won’t get elsewhere for the same sort of cash. That 165Hz refresh rate also carries plenty of gamer appeal. But while its rear camera lens trio is more versatile than its predecessor, Motorola’s image processing remains a step behind the phone world’s best. Mobile photographers may want to find some extra cash and check out the Google Pixel 7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S23 or Xiaomi 13, which all offer both stronger optical zooms and more effective digital ones. That said, the gap is pretty narrow – and you won’t find anything quite so well-rounded everywhere else for less cash. If you don’t live inside your phone’s camera app, you might consider this worthy of an extra star.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro is that surprise star that you might not expect to be quite so impressive – but impressive is the lingering impression that I get from this phone, having used it for a full week as my personal handset. In many ways, from the performance power to the battery life and charging speed, the Edge 40 Pro outsmarts the likes of Google's Pixel 7 Pro at its own Android game. But, in the same breath, the Motorola's design is less distinctive, the curved screen won't be for all, and the cameras, while certainly improved, are squeezed from all sides by strong competition – not just the Pixel 7 Pro, but pricier handsets such as the Xiaomi 13 Pro. With the potential of an Edge 40 Ultra on the horizon (TBC!), I think there could be an even stronger handset to plug the gap in the near future. But if you're looking for a solid Android phone with some real standout features, a super screen and software experience, the Edge 40 Pro is a very strong contender indeed.

Overall, the photos are really great. I like them very much. They have intense colours, although sometimes it may happen that Motorola exaggerates a bit and enhances the reality too much. However, when I enlarged the photos and looked at them more closely, I realized that they were simply beautiful, perhaps even a little oversaturated, but in a very pleasant way. If we have a blue sky, it is really blue, but not overcoloured or dyed into any other colours. The same goes for grass, trees and other elements of nature - they are just beautiful, green, but not too much, as if someone had marked them with bright office highlighters.

OK — so what’s the final word on the Motorola Edge (2023)? Did Motorola knock it out of the park and create a phone you should buy instead of the Google Pixel 8? As with everything in life, it’s a bit complicated. If you can buy the Motorola Edge at its discounted $500 price, I think there’s a really solid argument in the phone’s favor. At $200 cheaper than the Pixel 8, the Edge (2023) delivers a really solid smartphone experience — so long as you don’t mind some occasional performance issues and a lackluster camera. But if we’re looking at the Motorola Edge (2023) as a $600 smartphone, I don’t think the $100 in savings is enough to justify buying it over the Pixel 8. For folks who can afford it, there’s no denying that the Google Pixel 8 is the better overall choice. In fact, it’s one of the very best smartphones you can get right now.

The Motorola Edge 40 is a pleasant-to-use mid-range smartphone that can compete with the likes of the Pixel 7a and the Galaxy A54. The only thing I would really like to improve on this model is the battery life, which is enough for almost 1.5 days of use, but it is always nice to have more charge in reserve.

And finally, let’s summarise all the differences between the Edge 40 and its Pro version. So, the Edge 40 Pro has a top-end Qualcomm processor, 12 GB of RAM (+3 GB due to flash memory), a slot for two physical SIMs, a triple rear camera (50+50+13 megapixels), more powerful charging (125 W) and reversible charging, a flash for the front camera, a slightly larger battery, a larger screen size, and a refresh rate of 165 Hz. But the difference in price, as you remember, is more than twofold. Whether all these goodies are worth another $400 is up to everyone to decide for themselves. But against the background of the model labelled Pro, the Edge 40 looks like a more balanced solution.

The Motorola Edge 40 is a competent and powerful premium mid-range Motorola phone. It has a couple of flaws, most notably the average cameras, and it’s also likely to be a victim of Motorola’s inconsistent software update policy, but it’s available far more widely than the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, and at a more attractive price.

The Motorola Edge 40 is for those who want to venture into premium design territory without breaking the bank. Yet while it looks the part, it’s made a few compromises – particularly in the camera array – to keep the same $699 price tag as its predecessor. All up, you still score plenty of premium features at a mid-range price point, with the added bonus of a longer battery life and IP68 ruggedness to help protect your investment. It’s a solid mid-range handset but, if your sights are set a little higher, wait to see what else the Edge 40 range delivers in the months ahead.

The Motorola Edge 40 step up in positioning over the Motorola Edge 30, instead looking more like an update of the Edge 30 Fusion. This makes it closer to the flagship Edge 40 Pro, which is perhaps reflected in the asking price. At this price, it's designed to undercut flagship phones without too many compromises in performance - and in reality, there aren't too many compromises. This phone runs smooth, charges fast and puts in a good showing for itself. If you're looking for a compact smartphone offering great performance, then it's certainly worth considering the Edge 40. The camera isn't at the top of its game, but for most people I think it will cater to their needs. Aligned alongside the Moto Edge 40 Pro - and then the Razr 40 models - Motorola has a great selection of phones for 2023.

The Motorola Edge 40 is one of the slickest phones in its segment and its exterior appearance can be reason enough to purchase the handset. Barring the Realme 11 Pro series, no phone is even close to touching the Edge 40’s physical elegance. Apart from that the device doesn’t shy away in the display, software, and durability department as well. Good luck finding a device that has IP68 rating, wireless charging capabilities, and one of the cleanest UIs for under Rs 30,000. However, no phone is without compromise and I do wish that the phone could curtail its heating issues and offer a slightly better battery life. Even so, if you are to look past these niggles, the Motorola Edge 40 gets my nod as a compelling offering in the mid-range segment.

The Motorola Edge 40 offers great value for money, particularly for those who prioritise productivity and aesthetics. However, if you're a heavy gamer, I would recommend considering alternatives such as the Poco F5 or iQOO Neo 7, which performed better in benchmarks. It's commendable to see that Motorola is striving to bring something new with each iteration of the Edge series, and the Edge 40 certainly embodies that change. As I mentioned earlier, its inclusion of features like a curved display, OIS-enabled super-slim design, fast charging, 5G capability, the latest Android version, 256GB storage, and wireless charging under Rs 30,000 sets it apart from its many competitors. Nevertheless, it's important to remember the challenges that come with handling a super-slim phone, including potential durability issues.

Motorola is generating some serious buzz for its smartphones, all because they’re giving the users what they want. A clean software experience, stylish and lightweight design, dependable performance, and fast charging to name a few. The Motorola Edge 40 is my favourite mid-range all-rounder so far this year. Not because of its performance chops – there are faster performers – but because it offers users a holistic experience with very few compromises.

The Motorola Edge 40 packs some capable hardware wrapped in a curvy, sleek body that screams premium from a distance. The handset offers an excellent in-hand feel, great multimedia experience and relatively good performance. The software too, is quite feature-rich and clean. The Edge 40 also delivers some features which are unheard of in the segment such as an IP68 rating, a 144Hz pOLED curved-edge display, and wireless charging. However, the cameras definitely need more work. While the hardware and features seem solid on paper, Motorola needs to work on optimising them further for that competitive edge. If you want an all-rounder smartphone under Rs. 30,000 and are willing to compromise a bit on the cameras, the the Motorola Edge 40 can be considered. We feel that the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G (Review) and the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G (Review) offer slightly better camera performance. For sheer raw processing power, you can certainly consider the Poco F5 (Review).

The Motorola Edge 40 has a dual-camera setup on the back. It features a 50-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.47 aperture, which is the widest in the segment. Theoretically, it should help capture more light while maintaining a fast shutter speed. There is also a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera with autofocus, which means it can be used to shoot macro images as well. In addition to this, the Edge 40's rear camera setup can shoot portrait mode images at 24mm, 35mm and 50mm. We'll be testing how well these features actually work in the full review. Under the hood, there is a MediaTek Dimensity 8020 SoC which is based on a 6nm fabrication process. The device comes with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage in India.

Buy an Edge 40 from Motorola’s online store and it’ll set you back significantly more than either a Google Pixel 7a, Nothing Phone 1 or Samsung Galaxy A54. You’d think that would leave it stranded in a smartphone no-man’s land, but if certain features are high on your wish list it might be easy enough to justify the extra outlay. It charges much faster than a Pixel 7a, using a charger that’s included in the box. It has better water resistance than the Phone 1, and has more gaming grunt than an A54. Go with Motorola though and you give up Google’s superior set of cameras, Nothing’s unique glyph lighting and Samsung’s expandable storage. You’re still getting a capable pair of cameras, a powerful mid-tier CPU that runs Android very smoothly, and a gorgeous display, all wrapped up in a slim, lightweight chassis. Ultimately, it’s just nice to even have the choice.

Is there place in the market for the Motorola Edge 40? We'd say there is — we fell in love with it just for its design. The clean Android experience with just a pinch of Motorola optimization is always a great thing to experience and has its fans for a reason (admittedly, we hope the small bugs we experienced will be ironed out or were just an offshoot). The camera definitely falls in the "good enough" category — yes the oversharpening can be annoying and getting the exposure right is sometimes a slight minigame in its own right. Key word here — sometimes. We feel confident in rocking the Motorola Edge 40 as a daily driver and wouldn't mind taking shots for memorabilia or social media with it.

The Motorola Edge 40 stands out in the mid-range market not only due to its thin, lightweight design and unique vegan leather rear that completely covers the camera housing, but the experience it delivers. The curved 6.55-inch display is great for binge-watching with pOLED tech delivering vivid colours and inky blacks, and the 144Hz refresh rate is among the fastest around. It’s just a shame that there’s no auto refresh rate option that goes as far as 144Hz, instead only offering a fixed 144Hz refresh rate that can drain the battery. However, it’s the camera offering, and the new main 50MP snapper in particular, that stands out among much of the mid-range competition. Rivalled only by the Pixel 7a in my mind, the 50MP snapper delivers plenty of detail, great dynamic range and vivid colours, and it’s equally as capable in low-light conditions thanks to its impressively wide f/1.4 aperture.

The Edge 40's price may have you raising your eyebrows at first glance - €500-600 sounds like a lot for a midranger, and side-by-side comparisons with rivals often end with the Moto losing the price battle. But it's more nuanced than that since the Edge 40 offers a feature set and performance quite unlike the rest, and it's possibly worth the premium. The chipset, for one, is among the most potent options on this side of a truly flagship SoC and the Edge 40 extracts excellent results from it both in terms of performance and stability. The Moto is also no slouch when it comes to battery level, and the class-leading charging speed doesn't hurt either. The smoother-than-most 144Hz display is also among the brightest in the class, and the stereo speakers are both loud and easy on the ear.

Motorola Edge 40 unboxing and hands-on review including a camera test, gaming with Genshin Impact and a full specs/features tour. The Moto Edge 40 is almost £300 cheaper vs the Pro version here in the UK, yet sports some respectable camera tech, dependable performance and some slick design. So is this one of the best mid-range stock Android smartphones? Well, the Motorola Edge 40 will have stiff competition in the Pixel 7a next week, alongside rivals like the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G. That camera is dependable as long as it's not too dark, but is it a Pixel beater? Unlikely. But the Moto Edge 40 can blaze through games like Genshin, while the pOLED display is a 144Hz stunner. I like Motorola's clean UI, as well as the skinny design (even if it is a 6.55-inch phone). Sadly there's no headphone jack or expandable storage, and for battery life there's better options.

The Motorola Edge 40 looks to stand out from the competition not only with its impressively slim and lightweight design but the unique vegan leather rear that completely covers the camera housing. It’s not for everyone, but the added grip makes it easier to wield the 6.55-inch phone one-handed, and it won’t slip off tables either. The cameras, particularly that fast 50MP main snapper, look promising, especially at a £529 price point. That’s backed up by a relatively snappy mid-range processor, a 144Hz pOLED display with HDR10+ certification and 68W fast charging tech that could make the Edge 40 the mid-ranger to go for in 2023, but I’ll reserve judgement for the final review in the coming days.

The Motorola Edge 40 seems to step up in positioning over the Motorola Edge 30, instead looking more like an update of the Edge 30 Fusion. This makes it closer to the flagship Edge 40 Pro, which is perhaps reflected in the asking price. At this price, it's designed to undercut flagship phones without too many compromises in performance. The biggest drawback is likely to be the lack of an optical telephoto camera. Elsewhere this is a compelling package, with what looks like a strong display, great build, that lovely vegan leather finish and waterproofing. The performance of the Dimensity 8020 is still something of an unknown and we'll be fully testing it to give you a definitive verdict as soon as we can. The Motorola Edge 40 is available now in the UK for £529 and in Europe. A US launch of an equivalent device is expected in the near future.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo straddles the line between the type of fantastic cheap phone that Moto is known for, and a more esteemed breed of mid-range mobile. And while it manages to be a respectable jack of all trades, it’s a master of none. The handset is ostensibly a more affordable spin on the Motorola Edge 40, released in the early months of 2023, but with some compromises and corners cut in order to save you a bit of money. The three main distinctions are that the chipset is weaker, it has no wireless charging and the body is made from less premium materials. Offering a ‘budget’ version of a flagship is standard practice in mobile-making, but the Neo offers very few weaker areas than its more premium compadre – in fact, it’s actually a more powerful phone in a few areas, with a bigger battery and more RAM. If you gave me the phones and didn’t tell me which was which, I wouldn’t be able to identify which of them cost over £100 more.

With the Motorola Edge 40 Neo, you will get a lightweight, mid-range phone with a flagship phone design that also incorporates many flagship-level features like a big screen and fast charging for a competitive price. If you’re looking for a capable phone with a decent stills camera and 4K video capabilities but don’t want to spend more than $500 / £300, this phone is one to consider. But if you are willing to bridge the gap and spend more, there are other budget options that might fit the bill better without taking you into flagship territory.

It's not all that easy to reduce a budget or mid-range phone down to a rating between one and five stars (and we don't score half-stars at T3). These handsets are clearly not as good as the best Apple iPhone or best Google Pixel phones, because they're not as fast, the screens aren't as good, and the photos and videos captured by the cameras aren't up to the same level of quality. However, they are a lot cheaper – so really that star rating becomes less about how these more affordable handsets stack up against the flagships, and more about how much bang you get for your buck in the context of their surrounding competitors. In that department, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo really impresses, because you get much more than you would expect at this price point. Indeed, we think the Neo might well be the best phone in the world at this price point right now.

Motorola has offered a startlingly complete premium budget phone in the Edge 40 Neo. Its design and build quality are better than pretty much everything else in its weight class. Performance is strong, the display is bright and fluid (the tune of 144Hz), and the 50Mp main camera is capable of capturing genuinely good shots. Throw in solid battery life, fast charging, and Motorola’s famed clean approach to software, and you have what could very well be the best phone you can get for less than £300.

Throw in solid battery life, fast charging, and Motorola’s famed clean approach to software, and you have what could very well be the best phone you can get for less than £300.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a solid mid-range device that offers decent performance, a good-quality screen and a decent camera quality at a reasonable price. Of course, like any smartphone, it also has its shortcomings, but overall, it is a good option for people looking for a reliable device at a moderate price.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo has a fantastic display, a gorgeous finish, a speedy processor, a decent camera, and a great battery. But what truly shines is the use of premium materials for the design, “Ready for” technology, and IP68 dust and water resistance. They are the main highlight of the smartphone. The Motorola Edge 40 Neo provides a premium experience at a budget that Motorola promised it would. They have delivered almost everything they promised. What solidifies this smartphone in the sea of other smartphones is that it provides features that its competitors lack and that too at a budget. Considering all that it has to offer, we would say that the price is justified, but then again, there are other smartphones. For example, the Vivo T2 Pro for example has a better and faster chipset and Ring LEDs, among other things, at a similar or even lower price tag depending on the storage variant. Therefore, it depends on what you need out of a smartphone and which smartphone can fulfill those needs in a better way.

While there are some areas of concern, mentioned above, my experience with the smartphone was quite good as it did the jobs that I asked it to quickly and efficiently. The battery life is convincing as it will give you hours of support. The camera captured mesmerizing pictures except for the night photography part. Another thing that appealed to me about the smartphone was its sleek and compact design. The smartphone is very easy to handle and the curved display is perfect for streaming.

With an unusually premium design, a great screen, a capable camera and decent performance, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo is certainly the best Neo phone yet. It could also be the best sub-£300 smartphone on the market right now.

So that was all for my full review of the Motorola Edge 40 Neo. And needless to say, this is one heck of a phone for some INR 20,000. What I especially love about it is that Motorola hasn’t made any big, dealbreaker type of compromise to meet that price point either. Yes, there are definitely a few things that could’ve been better here, including the camera optimization, software updates, and the haptics. However, for anyone looking to buy a well-designed, well-built budget phone that checks a lot of boxes, this is a solid choice. It’s a bit frustrating to see that Motorola hasn’t been able to stock it as per the demand, but if you manage to get your hands on one, I’m sure you’re gonna love this. The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a well-rounded budget phone that ticks all the right boxes. But, if you are looking for a lot of power, there are might be better options out there.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a slightly more expensive version of the Edge 40, but not all the features of this model are better. This is an unusual situation. Thus, the weaker processor is compensated by 12 GB of RAM, slightly higher screen brightness, and a larger battery, and the plastic frame is compensated by a much more interesting bundled case. In fact, the difference in price between these models is not critical (15 999 vs. 14 999 UAH, respectively), so the user can choose the option that suits their priorities. And in any case, it will be a good choice in this price category.

In 2023, Motorola managed to surprise many people, and each subsequent premiere only confirms it. The manufacturer, which has been performing very well in the lower price range thanks to the moto G series, has not always shown similar results in the mid-range as well. With the Edge 40 Neo, Motorola has shown how good it can also be in the mid-price segment. Edge 40 Neo is a sleek, modern and sophisticated smartphone in the sub-$400 segment. The pOLED screen with 144Hz refresh rate, 68W charging, smooth and stable MediaTek Dimensity 7030, 12GB RAM, personalisation options and moto-features like Ready For are what makes this smartphone a high user experience. In addition, there is IP68 protection. The camera of the novelty also offers good quality for its price. It can be criticised for low detail and colour degradation in wide-angle photos that require processing in more complex situations, but for everyday use this set will be satisfactory for most users.

If Motorola set out to disrupt the budget market with the Edge 40 Neo, it has succeeded with flying colours. It’s incredibly well specced for its £299 price tag with a 6.5-inch curved 144Hz pOLED display, IP68 water resistance and 68W fast charging with a brick included in the box. The camera setup, and the main 50MP sensor in particular, performs well considering its price point, capturing not only detailed, vibrant images in well-lit conditions but in low-light scenarios too. It’s not quite up to the level of flagships or even the mid-range Pixel 7a, but it’s one of the better implementations in the budget phone market. Performance is also surprisingly solid from the Dimensity 7030 chipset, likely aided by the plentiful 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage should be ample for most budget users.

For an affordable smartphone, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a bit of an overachiever. Granted, the performance isn't going to rival that of pricier phones, and the camera system is good rather than great. But other than that, the design could fool you into thinking that it's much pricier than it actually is, the water resistance will give you peace of mind, and the screen is a crowning glory. You'll also get solid battery life that will last you the whole day. It won't fool you into thinking you've stumbled across a pricier phone than it is, but it does still represent superb value for money if you can manage your expectations just a little.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo impresses with its stylish design, IP68 rating, and high-quality display. Its performance also remains respectable for everyday tasks and casual gaming, and the camera setup impresses with good results in favourable lighting conditions, even though there’s some over-processing of colours. However, it falls short as a performance powerhouse compared to rivals like the iQOO Z7 Pro and Infinix GT 10 Pro in the same segment, which may leave heavy users wanting more. Otherwise, the handset offers a well-rounded experience. Beyond its appealing design and impressive display, it boasts near-stock Android software, a robust battery, and rapid charging capabilities. All of these factors come together to provide users with a solid, all-encompassing experience, especially considering its competitive price point. The handset is available in India, starting at Rs 23,999.

So, the question is – does the Motorola Edge 40 Neo recreate the magic of the Moto Edge 40 in the sub-₹25,000 price segment? The answer to that is quite a resounding yes. It shines in the same areas the Moto Edge 40 did and it manages to do that on a tighter budget. The phone has one of the cleanest UIs on the market, a stylish and premium design, a bright and fluid display, and fast charging. What it lacks is the performance chops that some of the latest sub ₹25K phones serve up in spades. It’s been three months since Motorola launched the Motorola Edge 40 (review) in India, but it still holds its place as one of the best mid-range smartphones in the market. While the Edge 40 is a fantastic option under ₹30K, Motorola doesn’t have too many standout offerings in the sub-₹25K price segment. To address this gap in its portfolio, the company has brought out a stripped-down version of the Moto Edge 40 dubbed the Motorola Edge 40 Neo.

That said, there are more ways in which the Edge 40 Neo can try and make up for its shortcomings. The display is apparently upgraded too, the fast charging remains among the fastest for the money, and the speakers don't disappoint either. Then there's the recognizable design that comes alongside an ongoing partnership with the color specialists at Pantone, so the new Neo is easy on the eyes too. And when it's also that easy on the pocket too - in both important ways we can think of - the Edge 40 Neo does earn a recommendation.

Unboxing the Motorola Edge 40 Neo, the cheapest Moto flagship phone of 2023, boasting a 50MP camera with OIS, impressive gaming performance and excellent battery life. The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is one of the best-specced smartphones for a budget of £300 and here's my hands-on review. First up, that design is stunning. You have a choice of Pantone colours, with a leather-style finish for two of the models. Around front you have a curved pOLED screen with 144Hz refresh and 1300 nits of brightness. And the Motorola Edge 40 Neo also has a stereo-ish speaker setup. That dual lens camera is decent enough for most people's everyday photography. The focus is fast and even indoors, your shots won't look too grainy. However, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo is beaten by the Pixel 7a, if you have a bit more cash. Gaming on PubG, Genshin Impact etc is a smooth and cool experience too.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a real surprise in the realm of mid-range smartphones, with an eye-watering price of €399. It comes in three chic colors, and the grippy imitation leather at the back adds to its panache. Motorola either read and followed the nextpit review of the other two Edge 2023 models or generally listened to the community. The software update policy could be improved further though, with a security patch that is not the latest version. The two main cameras can now not only conjure up fancy shots during the day, but also make you forget the muddy, pixelated mess of yore when it comes to night photos. The screens have always been convincing at Motorola and underlined this ability again with the Moto Edge 40 Neo and its 144 Hz refresh rate.
