When it came to taking one laptop with me while working away from home, confronted with the choice of the T14s, HP EliteBook 845 G11, and the 13in Microsoft Surface Laptop, it was Lenovo’s machine I reached for every time. It felt like a natural fit for working on the go, but then again, it was my literal Editor’s Choice just a few months before. Throughout this review, I’ve been calling the T14s a business machine - and it’s certainly built for the job.

EN→DEThe Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 4 is such a positive surprise. This little fella with a 16.9 mm profile offers almost exactly the same performance as the bigger ThinkPad T14 Gen 4. In general, the performance of the T14s sibling is great. Web browsing or watching videos while benchmarking with Cinebench R23 isn’t a problem for this device – we already tried this and we observed no system lags. In addition to that, the CPU can sustain high processor P and E clocks under any load. During longer stress, the frequencies are a bit higher than the ones of the ThinkPad T14 Gen 4. The single fan is almost quiet when the processor has to do the heavy lifting and it’s hard to hear some noise in idle or during video playback. The thermals on the outside are low enough for comfortable usage. The input devices are also very good. The keyboard is comfortable for typing, it’s spill-resistant, and it has a backlight. The touchpad is smooth and responsive. The memory is soldered but this applies to almost any other notebook with similar thickness.

Das aktuelle ThinkPad T14s G4 hatten wir bereits mit Intel-Prozessor und hochauflösendem OLED-Panel im Test, nun folgt das AMD-Modell mit dem Ryzen 7 7840U sowie dem Low-Power-IPS-Display. Neben deutlich mehr Leistung überzeugt vor allem die gute Akkulaufzeit.

Lenovo („Le“ vom englischen legend, novo (Latein) für neu) wurde 1984 als chinesische Computerhandelsfirma gegründet. Ab 2004 war die Firma der größte Laptop-Hersteller Chinas und nach der Übernahme der PC-Sparte von IBM im Jahr 2005 der viertgrößte weltweit. Neben Desktops und Notebooks stellt das Unternehmen Monitore, Beamer, Server etc her und hat sich auf die Entwicklung, Herstellung und Vermarktung von Unterhaltungselektronik, Personalcomputern, Software, Unternehmenslösungen und damit verbundenen Dienstleistungen spezialisiert.
Im Jahr 2016 belegte das Unternehmen weltweit den ersten Platz bei den Computerverkäufen. Auch 2023 hatte es ihn noch inne bei ca 23% Weltmarktanteil. Wichtige Produktreihen sind Thinkpad, Legion und Ideapad.
2011 wurde die Mehrheit der Medion AG übernommen, einem europäischen Computer-Hardware-Hersteller. 2014 wurde Motorola Mobility gekauft, wodurch Lenovo einen Schub am Smartphone-Markt erreichte.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs: Integrierte Grafikkarte (in Tiger-Lake G7 SoCs) der Gen. 12 Architektur mit 96 EUs.
AMD Radeon 780M: Integrierte Grafikkarte in den Rembrandt Ryzen APUs basierend auf der RDNA 3 Architektur mit 12 CUs (= 768 Shader) und einer Taktrate von bis zu 3.000 MHz.

Intel Raptor Lake-U:
i7-1355U: Auf der Alder-Lake-Architektur basierender High-End-Mobilprozessor. Bietet 2 Performance-Kerne und 8 Effizienzkerne und kann 12 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeiten. Der maximale Turbo-Takt der P-Kerne beträgt 5 GHz.
AMD Phoenix (Zen 4):
R7 7840U: High-End-Mobil-8-Kern Prozessor mit 16 Threads. Taktet mit maximal 5,1 GHz auf einem Kern und kann dadurch in Single- und auch Multi-Thread-Anwendungen überzeugen. Nutzt die Zen 4 Architektur und hat einen konfigurierbaren TDP von 15-30 Watt.

14.00:
14 Zoll Display-Grösse stellt ein Mittelding zwischen den kleinen Subnotebook-Formaten und den Bildschirmen der 15 Zoll-Standard-Laptops dar.
Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist, gute Auflösungen mit brauchbaren Detailgrößen liefern und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.
Früher waren 14 Zoll-Geräte sehr selten, jetzt stellen sie nach den 15-Zollern den Standard bei Laptops dar.
