Given that this thing barely costs over a thousand dollars in this configuration, it’s a solid buy. The Lenovo ThinkBook 13x is just so good. It’s thin, light, and compact, making it easy to go wherever with you. And it’s stylish in it’s two-tone silver color. The biggest drawbacks are the 720p webcam and that battery life doesn’t really stand out. As long as you can live with those things, I don’t know what else you’re looking for. The thing is that this is just great all-around. It doesn’t have some flashy new features or anything like that. It just gets the job done, and the things that are critical to the core experience are great. To me, this feels like it’s key to the ThinkBook brand. If you’re a small business that can’t go in on buying 500 ThinkPads for a big building full of employees, you’re probably looking at something like this. If you are, it checks just the right boxes.

The ThinkBook 13x is a young whippersnapper that thought it could steal its predecessor’s shine, but the ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 is superior in many ways. It has a better variety of ports, zippier performance and quicker video transcoding. On top of that, its battery runtime is slightly longer. Of course, the ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 had its moments. It crushed its rivals in the file transfer, brightness and graphics tests. That being said, the ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 might be a better choice if that extra battery runtime boost matters to you. It’s also a decent option if you do some video transcoding here and there and you want a machine that saves you time. And if you dislike dongles, you’ll appreciate the ThinkBook 13s Gen 2’s wider variety of I/O options. Plus, it’s much cheaper than the ThinkBook 13x and serves up better processing performance (a ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 with an 11th Gen Core i5 CPU only costs $769 at Walmart). Still, the ThinkBook 13x has its niche audience.

Honestly, I love the ThinkBook series from Lenovo, but it didn’t do it for me this year. And that’s only because of the battery life being so underwhelming. Even the previous ThinkBook we reviewed had better battery life. Other than that, I enjoyed reviewing the ThinkBook 13x.

The Lenovo ThinkBook 13x is a capable ultraportable thanks to its lightweight design, productive 16:10 screen, and quality keyboard, touchpad, and speakers. It's reasonably priced and even comes with a Bluetooth mouse. But Lenovo might have shaved off a tenth of an inch too much from the similar ThinkBook 13s Gen 2, which has a better port selection and higher performance. Nonetheless, both ThinkBooks are worthy and economical alternatives to the premium-priced Dell XPS 13 and Razer Book 13.

No. The ThinkBook 13x is a nice laptop, but it’s currently incredibly overpriced and, even at a more reasonable cost, simply doesn’t warrant buying it over its (very slightly) larger sibling, the ThinkBook 13s.

Whether it’s for business or pleasure, this ThinkBook 13x checks most of the boxes that a typical user would want in a modern ultrabook. The premium craftsmanship, the good typing experience, and the punchy and practical 16:10 touchscreen are among the main selling points of this series, alongside the snappy everyday use experience and long battery life. On the other hand, the minimalistic IO and the finicky clickpad and wifi connection might steer some of you away, especially at the high prices that Lenovo demand for this series at this point.

Speaking of performance, the hardware works really well with the two-fan cooling solution. It never heats up, and it maintains its clock speeds for long periods of time. What we noticed, however, is that the CPU frequency does not boost very high at the beginning. Yet again, the core count of the processors, offered with this product pretty much makes for it. Now, let’s talk about features. Your privacy will be intact, thanks to the fingerprint reader, the IR face recognition scanner and the privacy shutter on the camera. Furthermore, you can take advantage of the “Zero touch login”, which automatically wakes your computer and logs you in as soon as fall within reach of the sensor. See, this is a special product. It is not for everyone. Some people like future expandability, others need more ports natively. However, if you’re into portability, it can hardly get any better than that.

For the sale price of $1,580, the powerful processor options, strong battery life, and the Magic Bay make it a solid 13-inch pick, especially for remote and hybrid workers. If you want a 13-inch laptop with similar specs but is a little easier on the budget, MSI's Prestige 13 AI Evo is a solid alternative that starts at $899. The Lenovo ThinkBook 13x G4 is a well-balanced business laptop with a few key strengths that make it great for work and entertainment alike. It features fantastic speakers, a surprisingly good webcam, a sharp display, and a snappy keyboard. While its CPU benchmark scores could be better, the ThinkBook is capable of casual gaming and kept up well with everyday tasks during my testing. Considering its price, I would have preferred for the ThinkPad 13x G4 to include the more powerful Intel Core Ultra 7 155H CPU rather than the Core Ultra 5 125H. The display also could have performed better in our display tests. However, those drawbacks are only relevant for certain types of professionals, such as graphic designers or those in need of a highly powerful processor.

The ThinkBook 13x Gen 4 lives up to its brand's small-business value proposition, undercutting the similarly screened HP Dragonfly G4 and delivering better performance and double the battery life of the ThinkPad X1 Nano. But that doesn't make it a bargain, with Asus and others selling ultraportables with superior OLED screens for hundreds less. Also, its lack of HDMI and USB-A ports is a pity. The 13x is a slick, capable laptop with Lenovo's excellent build quality, but it could use a price cut.

The ThinkBook 13x Gen 4 ticks some of the important boxes. It’s very well-built, attractive, and has a great keyboard with an optional haptic touchpad. It’s highly portable, and its Magic Bay setup is unique. But it’s not terribly fast, it doesn’t have great battery life, and its display is good but not great. If it were less expensive, then it would be easier to recommend. But if you’re spending more than $1,500 for a laptop, you shouldn’t have to accept so many compromises.

The ThinkBook 13x is an excellent ultraportable business laptop: It’s a great price and offers high performance along with good keyboard, display, and excellent all-day battery life. The webcam, microphone, and speakers are great for business meetings. While a machine like the ThinkPad X1 Carbon offers more premium touches with an OLED display and snappier keyboard, I’d say the ThinkBook 13x offers a better overall package with its all-day battery life and better performance benchmarks in a variety of scenarios — not to mention the much lower price. There are still some catches: If you want more connectivity than three USB-C ports and an audio jack, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

The Lenovo ThinkBook 13x Gen 4 is a sleek and powerful 2.2-pound laptop that packs Intel Core Ultra 9 power and a vibrant 13.5-inch display with a 97% screen-to-body ratio. But what makes this system stand out at CES 2024 is its support for Magic Bay accessories that attach magnetically via pogo pins. This includes a Magic Bay Studio 4K camera with dual speakers. And Lenovo lets us go hands on with a bunch of other prototypes, including a Magic Bay SSD, a mini fan, LED light bar, and even a second 10.1-inch display.

The Lenovo Thinkbook 13x Gen 4 is a highly impressive laptop with few shortcomings. This is a mind-blowingly solid light and thin machine. Our device with a Core Ultra 9 185H isn’t going to top any benchmark charts but the CPU performance is still good because the frequencies remain decent even in longer stress. In this scenario, the keyboard doesn’t get excessively hot and the fans aren’t noisy. The comfort under max processor loads is adequate. What about the upgrade options? Well, you can replace the SSD. The port selection impresses with its three Thunderbolt 4s but the lack of Type-A connectors could be a no-go for some people.

The Lenovo ThinkBook 13x G4 IMH is a nice-looking ultraportable laptop with a high-quality, compact, and stylish metal body that offers its potential owner many strong points. It is equipped with productive hardware, a high-quality IPS display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and can work for a full working day without recharging. Additional useful features include a fingerprint scanner, an infrared camera for owner identification, and a high-quality audio system. There is only one complaint about the technical part: a modest set of connectors. The main problem with the laptop is its price. There are competitors with similar characteristics and OLED screens that are cheaper.
