Als Fazit kann ich nur festhalten, dass Netbooks nichts wirklich Ganzes und nichts Halbes sind, die Tätigkeiten die ich damit ausführen kann und will, kann ein Smartphone besser erledigen. Ja, genau das Smartphone, das den Titel auch wirklich verdient: das iPhone! Das funktioniert, ist schnell und portabel und kann eigentlich alles besser als ein Netbook. Gut, diesen Text hätte ich nicht mit dem Smartphone tippen können bzw. wollen, aber das wäre auch mit dem Netbook ein Krampf gewesen. Eine paar E-Mails, Facebook, Internet, Infos, im Bett surfen – alles kann das iPhone besser als das Netbook. Und telefonieren geht auch noch. Mit Netbooks bin ich persönlich durch, solange ich einen Hauptcomputer habe und das Netbook nur der Zweitrechner ist, und solange die Leistung nicht stimmt.

It has the main partition with the OS, as well as a secondary partition to store files on. The reason it’s setup this way is because there is an automated recovery service that will clear the first hard drive if necessary. This Eee PC has a built-in install for Windows XP. That said, it isn't plastered with tape on the inside as is the Eee PC 1008 and most folks will never open up their machine to appreciate (or not) the internal aesthetic.

Although the guys in Taiwan may not completely acknowledge it, I’m thinking that they derived a little bit of design inspiration from Apple on this front. At least it isn’t quite as blatant as what MSI came up with at CES 2009 with their effort dubbed as the “MacBook Air Clone“. I don’t have the older Eee PC on hand for a side-by-side comparison, but the profile does appear to be slightly tapered on the 1005HA. The overall thickness has been marginally reduced, but this is pretty marginal based on my memory.

Overall, we liked the netbook just like the 1005HA, since it's essentially the same thing, just rebranded with bumped up specifications. However, all the things we didn't like the first time around are back in this netbook, like the overly glossy finish, the response of the keys and the sticky trackpad. We wish Asus would have spent a little more time on the drawing board and fixed these issues before launching it. If you don't mind these and are in the market for a netbook with good battery life then the 1005P is a good choice.

Still, it is currently the best choice for those needing long running times and it doesn't hurt that it has an attractive design and comfortable keyboard.

Most of the changes relative to the older 1005HA (and 1008HA) are very minor. The LCD panel may or may not be better, depending on what particular panel you happen to get. That's unfortunate, but it's the only outwardly visible change. We did feel that the keyboard and touchpad buttons were "loose" compared to the 1005HA, but it might simply be a case of getting an early sample. The design doesn't appear to be any different so we can't imagine ASUS making changes to the keyboard that are clearly worse.

Of the three netbooks we’ve tested with the Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator, the $399 Asus Eee PC 1005PR is the best of the bunch on paper because of its longer battery life. While the less expensive HP Mini 210 gets slightly better frame rates, it has a smaller hard drive and lasts two hours less on a charge. And the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 disappoints because of its finicky touchpad. Overall, though, we’re not too convinced of Broadcom’s value. Yes, you can watch high-def video, but it’s still pretty rough compared to Ion netbooks. We also don’t like the 1005PR’s noisy keyboard. This netbook isn’t a bad deal if you want an HD screen, but if you want multimedia muscle in something highly portable we suggest that you wait for Ion 2 systems to hit the market.

The Asus EeePC 1005PR ships with a Broadcom decoder chip and a higher screen resolution, which address these shortcomings, but you're paying a premium for a feture that's not essential to your every day needs. I would look into the Asus EeePC 1201N if you're interested in boosting netbook performance. If you want an all-around, inexpensive netbook, the Toshiba mini NB305-N410 and HP Mini 5102 (which also has a Broadcom HD chip) are better alternatives.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Integrierter (onboard) Grafikchip auf Mobile Intel 945GM/C/Z/ME/ML Chipsätzen und Nachfolger des GMA 900. Kein Hardware T&L (für manche Spiele benötigt). Für Spiele kaum geeignet.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Integrierte (shared memory) Grafikkarte welche im Prozessor Intel Atom N4xx integriert ist. Basiert laut Intel auf einen "optimierten" X3100 Kern, ist jedoch nur minimal schneller als der alte GMA 950. Daher für HD Videos und 3D Spiele nicht geeignet.

Intel Atom: Die Intel Atom Serie besteht aus 64-Bit Mikroprozessoren für günstige und stromsparende Notebooks, MIDs oder UMPC. Besonderheit der Architektur, ist das die Befehle nicht wie derzeit üblich (z. B. Intel Core Architekture oder AMD Turion) "out of Order"  sondern  "in  Order"  ausgeführt  werden. Dadurch verliert man zwar einiges an Performance, jedoch spart dies Transistoren und daher Kosten und dadurch auch etwas Strom.

N270: Stromsparende und billige CPU mit schwacher Leistung und geringem Stromverbrauch. Durch die in-order Ausführung der Befehle langsamer als gleichgetaktete Pentium M / Core Solo / Celeron M.

N450: Intel Atom CPU für Netbooks mit integriertem DDR2 Speichercontroller und GMA 3150 Grafik. Die Leistung ist nur etwas besser eine Kombination aus N270 / GMA950, jedoch ist der gesamte Stromverbrauch deutlich besser. Die Leistung ist daher immer nur vergleichbar mit einem alten 1.2 GHz Pentium 3M.

N280: Typischer Netbook Prozessor und durch die geringe Leistung nur für Office, Web und andere einfache Applikationen sinnvoll einsetzbar. Im Vergleich zum N270 nur minimal höher getaktet, jedoch mit schnellerem FSB. Ein Celeron M mit 1.2 GHz bietet in etwa die selbe Leistung wie der N280.
