Der Asus Eee PC 1005HA-M mit Windows 7 Starter als Betriebssystem konnte in unserem Testbericht ein gutes Bild hinterlassen. Die hohe Akkulaufzeit und der geringer Stromverbrauch sind erfreuliche Pluspunkte und mit 9 Stunden 13 Minuten konnten die Herstellerangaben sogar übertroffen werden. Die Arbeitsgeschwindigkeit unter Windows 7 in Kombination mit dem Intel Atom N270, 160 GByte Festplatte und einem GByte Arbeitsspeicher ist erstaunlich gut. Allerdings treiben mehrere, gleichzeitig geöffnete Programme das Netbook schnell an die Leistungsgrenze.

Für den im Internet aufgerufenen Preis von ca. 300 Euro erhält der Käufer mit dem ASUS Eee PC 1005HA ein edles, hervorragend bedienbares, gut verarbeitetes Netbook, das mit ausgezeichneter Konnektivität glänzt und zudem noch fast 7 Stunden im Akkubetrieb durchhält. Perfekt also? Nicht ganz. Der magere Lieferumfang (ein Sleeve, um die lackierten Oberflächen zu schonen, wäre sehr sinnvoll) trübt die Freude über das Gerät - allerdings nur kurz. ASUS zeigt deutlich, dass im Netbookbereich immer noch kein Weg an ihnen vorbei führt.

Mit dem Eee PC 1005HA bietet ASUS außer einem flacheren und runderen Aussehen wenig neues, wobei das Modell 1005HA-H wegen der langen Akkulaufzeit von 10 Stunden einen Mehrwert bietet. Die Tastatur ist besser geworden, das fehlende Multi-Touch und das dunkle Glare-Display ein Manko. Hier müssen Vor- und Nachteile zwischen den alten und dem neuen Eee PC 1005HA genau überlegt werden, denn technisch gibt es kaum Unterschiede und die Klavierlack-Oberfläche ist nicht Jedermann Sache.

Als Fazit kann ich nur festhalten, dass Netbooks nichts wirklich Ganzes und nichts Halbes sind, die Tätigkeiten die ich damit ausführen kann und will, kann ein Smartphone besser erledigen. Ja, genau das Smartphone, das den Titel auch wirklich verdient: das iPhone! Das funktioniert, ist schnell und portabel und kann eigentlich alles besser als ein Netbook. Gut, diesen Text hätte ich nicht mit dem Smartphone tippen können bzw. wollen, aber das wäre auch mit dem Netbook ein Krampf gewesen. Eine paar E-Mails, Facebook, Internet, Infos, im Bett surfen – alles kann das iPhone besser als das Netbook. Und telefonieren geht auch noch. Mit Netbooks bin ich persönlich durch, solange ich einen Hauptcomputer habe und das Netbook nur der Zweitrechner ist, und solange die Leistung nicht stimmt.

Weiterhin kann es mit Features aufwarten, die man bei anderen Herstellern vergeblich sucht, beispielsweise eine Kompatibilität für SDHC Karten. Lediglich der fehlende Bluetooth-Adapter ist ein wirklicher Wermutstropfen. Dennoch ist der Asus EEE PC 1005HA-M für alle preisbewussten Kunden mehr als empfehlenswert.

Die Akkulaufzeit ist durch den geringen Energieverbrauch erfreulich hoch und fällt mit maximal 8 Stunden und 45 Minuten sogar noch etwas höher als die Herstellerangabe von 8,5 Stunden aus. Trotz der relativ leistungsschwachen Komponenten in Form des Intel Atom N270 und 1 GByte Arbeitsspeicher ist die Arbeitsgeschwindigkeit erstaunlich gut. Erst bei Multitasking nimmt die Geschwindigkeit ab.

  Die Tester haben beim 1005HA kaum Grund für Kritik. Lediglich das leuchtschwache Display trübt unsere Freude ein wenig. Davon einmal abgesehen glänzt der Mini mit überdurchschnittlicher Verarbeitung, Mobilität und Eingabe. Die Anwendungsleistung ist dank Intel Atom N270 gewohnt gut. Selbst die vergleichsweise hohe Wärmeentwicklung kann die Note „Sehr Gut“ nicht verderben. Dafür ist das Netbook in allen anderen Bereichen einfach zu gut.

My ASUS Eee PC is over a month old. This means it’s ready to be reviewed by yours truly. As usual, let’s first look at the stats. Also, this comes with a partitioned hard drive. It has the main partition with the OS, as well as a secondary partition to store files on. The reason it’s setup this way is because there is an automated recovery service that will clear the first hard drive if necessary. This Eee PC has a built-in install for Windows XP. There are also several other partitions, but they’re not visible to the user — and you won’t need to touch them unless you plan on making additional partitions for Linux or other operating systems.

Take the Eee PC 1005HA-P for a test drive and it's easy to understand why ASUS is still at the top of the market. The low price for a feature-rich (if one can say that about a netbook) machine, fantastic keyboard, fast performance, good driver support and on-board utilities make the 10005HA-P a top pick. The netbook is attractive and the 10.5 hour battery means you really can go all day away from AC. We only wish that it were easier to access the hard drive-- open up the netbook and it's a cramped mess of cables, circuit boards, ribbon cables and double-sided sticky tape holding the keyboard that doesn't smack of high quality build methods. That said, it isn't plastered with tape on the inside as is the Eee PC 1008 and most folks will never open up their machine to appreciate (or not) the internal aesthetic.

Does yet another Eee PC do the brand proud? When Asus' original Eee PC Seashell 1008HA appeared, we were bowled over by the machine's incredible size and usability. Asus has now created an even more portable model, by producing the 1005HA which features a slightly bulkier chassis, but also a better 6-cell battery. Despite the slightly larger chassis, the extra battery power offered by the Asus Eee PC Seashell 1005HA will certainly appeal to those after all-day usability from their netbook. This is a great product and one that offers a valid alternative to other 6-cell carrying machines.

The Asus Eee PC range of netbooks has undergone a design and a name change recently, which we’ve been told will be carried throughout all the upcoming family of Eee PCs. This "Seashell" design reflects exactly that, a seashell, with its curved lid and glossy exterior that’s really highlighted in the white version of these netbooks. The 1005HA is slightly marred by the lower powered CPU and battery life in our netbook, although the shipping unit has been confirmed to last up to 8.5 hours. The new clamshell design we first saw in the 11.6-inch screen 1101HA was a welcomed change, as they all look now much more like a laptop and less like a budget portable device.

And also, if you check on Amazon, you’ll see that the black and blue EEE PCs 1005HA are the best sold netbooks on that store, with a mark of 4.3 out of 5 from actual buyers. And that’s something other similar devices just can’t beat.

Over in Cupertino, the Apple MacBook Air has a characteristic teardrop-like profile, being a little chubbier in the back and tapering to a point in the front. Although the guys in Taiwan may not completely acknowledge it, I’m thinking that they derived a little bit of design inspiration from Apple on this front. At least it isn’t quite as blatant as what MSI came up with at CES 2009 with their effort dubbed as the “MacBook Air Clone“. I don’t have the older Eee PC on hand for a side-by-side comparison, but the profile does appear to be slightly tapered on the 1005HA. The overall thickness has been marginally reduced, but this is pretty marginal based on my memory.

If we were forced to chose between the two, we’d pick the 1005HA. Although the Li-Polymer battery in the 1008HA provides a perfect weight-to-battery-life ratio, the fact is that even at 1.27kg, the lower-end model isn’t going to be an uncomfortable burden. The extra USB port makes a big difference if you like to plug in, say, a mouse, a USB storage device and a 3G dongle all at the same time. The extra couple of hours of battery may seem like overkill if you’ve been struggling on with only a couple of hours of battery from an early netbook generation, but to be able to rely on your battery for a full day is a real game changer.

The Eee PC 1005HA is ultimately lined up to replace the 1000HE that continues to sell well. To follow in its shoes, Asus has taken the unusual step of releasing two 1005HA models to cater for different price points. The cheaper N270 Atom-based version that we reviewed doesn’t match the 1000HE in terms of specs and battery life, but does come with a nicer lightweight design. We enjoyed our time with the Asus Eee PC 1005HA (N270). It offers a contemporary design, crisp matte display, good build quality and decent battery life compared to the majority of netbooks out there.

For the price, the ASUS 1005HA offers a lot of very unique and interesting features that you won't find on other netbooks including support for 802.11n networking and Bluetooth 2.1 + AD2P support for wireless audio streaming.  Not only that, but it has a sexy seashell design (hence the name of course) and great battery life (though not up to the 10 hours quoted by ASUS exactly) for a price under $400.  There were a couple of drawbacks, notably the trackpad and overall system performance, but in terms of best in class netbook devices, this is one of the top.

Overall, the Eee PC 1101HA is the best Eee PC yet. Shipping with a 10in screen (1,024x600 resolution); the now-ubiquitous Atom N270 chip; Intel i945GSE chipset; GMA950 graphics; 1GB RAM; 802.11b/g/n WiFi, SIM-card slot; 160GB mechanical HDD, and Windows XP Home, the competition is fierce because there are many clones that litter the market.

But its high-end price puts it out of reach for many, and its non-removable battery isn't as long-lasting as those we've seen in other Eee PCs. Asus' Eee PC 1005HA Seashell is a great netbook. While its performance is par for the netbook course, a great keyboard, attractive design and fantastic battery life help it to stand out from the crowd.

  It should also be noted that the Eee PC 1000HE is still a viable option over both "Seashell" netbooks. The specs list is largely the same, it packs the same great battery life (7 minutes more, actually) as found on the 1005HA and it's a tad less expensive in some outlets. You'll be sacrificing the heralded "Seashell" design and buying a netbook that pretty much looks like every other one, but if glitz and pizzazz don't matter much to you, we'd argue that the 1000HE could serve your needs for a little less, depending on the deals you find out there. The $389.99 1005HA is still crafted for those willing to pay a small premium for style. The difference between the value proposition of this netbook versus the 1008HA is that Asus sprinkles in a bit more utility with that style on the 1005HA. For us, it's a stellar mix of style and substance, and it's hard to not recommend if you're in the market for a netbook.

The Eee PC 1005A is one of the best eveolutions of the Eee PC line so far. Yes, on paper there's not much to get excited about with the latest Eee PC since it features the same processor, integrated graphics, and standard 10-inch display seen in almost every netbook, but in this case the whole may indeed be greater than the sum of its parts.

The latest Eee PC boasts the longest runtime of any netbook to date at a very good price.

An attractive design, comfortable keyboard with appropriately placed keys, and almost nine hours of runtime make the ASUS’ Eee PC 1005HA the most well rounded Eee PC to date. And at $389, it’s also one of the most affordable netbooks with its feature set. Those lusting after a thinner netbook will be better suited by the Eee PC 1008HA, but will have to pay $40 more and expect three hours’ less battery life. Though we still prefer the $399 Toshiba mini NB205’s more premium build and island–style keyboard, the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA is a very close second.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Integrierter (onboard) Grafikchip auf Mobile Intel 945GM/C/Z/ME/ML Chipsätzen und Nachfolger des GMA 900. Kein Hardware T&L (für manche Spiele benötigt). Für Spiele kaum geeignet.

3D Spiele sind auf diesen Vertretern nur in Ausnahmen spielbar, grundsätzlich sind die Grafiklösungen hierfür jedoch nicht geeignet. Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem möglich sein.
