The Swift Edge 16’s only real rival is LG’s gram 16. Of the two, I think the Swift Edge 16 edges it slightly (see what I did there). Though the gram 16 is almost as thin and light, its display is its biggest downfall because it isn’t OLED, and it isn't as sharp, and doesn’t support touch too. Spec for spec, both notebooks cost roughly the same (the Swift Edge 16 as tested is S$2,598), so there’s no advantage there for LG either. Ultimately, it boils down to how much you value the Swift Edge 16’s large display and portability. Users who appreciate these qualities will likely gloss over its shortcomings, because, as I said, they are mostly minor and not outright dealbreakers. Furthermore, cramming a 16-inch display into a body that weighs the same as most 13 and 14-inch notebooks is quite a remarkable trick, and there are few notebooks that are like the Swift Edge 16.

All things considered, the Acer Swift Edge 16 is a conflicting notebook that outstanding in some ways but also flawed in others. The display, though OLED and mighty sharp, isn’t perhaps quite as vivid and doesn’t support touch inputs. And while it is incredibly light, it doesn’t feel quite as solid as other notebooks in its price range. Other complaints worth mentioning are the imprecise trackpad, lack of support for Thunderbolt 4 and USB4, and weak-sounding speakers. But then it counters these with decent performance and battery life. And really, these shortcomings aren’t dealbreakers – at least not for most people. Ultimately, it boils down to how much you value the Swift Edge 16’s large display and portability.

So, while this is the review of the Acer Swift Edge 16, let’s take a second and look at AMD’s attempt at introducing AI to the laptop market. While AI is going to be big, and companies are placing big bets on them, let’s take a step back and see what AI can actually provide to a laptop user today. For now, it looks like AI is only required for webcams, and while other apps – such as Photos and Paint – introduces AI features, the crucial difference lies on the fact that those are computed on the cloud, not on the device. Would that change? Yes, it would. In fact, we already have it: just look at smartphones. One fact worth pointing out amongst the 2023’s AI craze is that, AI-assisted features already existed in some ways when you take a photo or remove an element from an image – the compute component responsible for this is collectively called Neural Processing Units, or NPUs.

This Acer Swift Edge 16 is an interesting series, a lightweight and highly-portable laptop with a beautiful 16-inch OLED screen and solid performance for daily chores and multitasking, but also for some occasional workloads and even games. The AMD Ryzen hardware and the OLED display are the main selling points of this series in its niche of large-screen ultrabooks, yet too bad Acer haven't updated the battery or the speakers on this latest generation.

The Acer Swift Edge 16 is a well-designed notebook. Equipped with the latest and greatest components from AMD for thin and light PCs, it balances well between portability, design, performance and usability. We appreciate that AMD has also included new and interesting features such as an AI engine within the new Ryzen 7840U processor, which prepares the notebook for applications of the near future. However, due to the limited number of applications which can be accelerated by such an engine at this time, it didn’t really make a difference. Moreover, compared to its predecessor, we don’t really see a significant difference in terms of real-world raw performance compared to its predecessor. What puzzled us was its graphics performance. Perhaps, the Acer Swift Edge 16 is a product that’s ahead of its time.

This laptop’s weak performance and uncomfortable user experience don’t deserve a $1,299 sticker price. If you can find the Acer Swift Edge 16 at a significant discount—say, during Black Friday—it might be worthwhile, but only if you think you won’t use it for any resource-intensive tasks. The Swift Edge 16’s large OLED display is certainly appealing, but there’s a similar 16-inch OLED in the Acer Swift Go 16, which retails for $100 less. The Go 16’s performance impressed us far more than the Edge 16, and while the Go 16 is nearly a pound heavier, we’d happily make that trade if it meant being able to use more complex applications. (Avoiding mid-work crashes is also worth the extra weight.) Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Air M2, which offers a lovely visual experience as well as a luxurious keyboard-trackpad combo, is also a great alternative if you’re looking to stay within $1,300.

The Swift Edge 16 is something of a mixed bag. Its lightweight, streamlined design is very impressive, and the large, bright display is a treat for the eyes. However, the build quality and battery life both leave room for improvement and may deter some users. The competitive price here might clinch the deal, though, and if you do need a laptop with a large 16-inch display that's light enough to carry around every day then the Swift Edge 16 doesn't have much competition in this price range.

It isn’t a crowded section of the best laptop market but the Acer Swift Edge 16 absolutely leads the way in the 16-inch lightweight laptop stakes. It’s got a stunning 3.2K OLED display that looks great no matter what you throw at it. Then, it’s backed up by some impressive performance courtesy of the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U chip. Productivity is dominated by this chip, while it also offers creatives plenty of juice for some 4K editing. It primarily falls down on high-end design and speaker quality, making rivals like the Dell XPS 13 Plus, MacBook Air 15-inch and Samsung Galaxy Book 3 360 easy to recommend in its stead, as they excel in these areas. However, save for the MacBook Air, many Windows competitors can’t match up in terms of the bang for your buck you get with the Swift Edge 16. And, you’ll also be giving up the larger display and refreshingly lightweight. The Acer Swift Edge 16 may not be for everyone but, for the right person, it will knock it out of the park.

AMD shows us where it’s at with a power-efficient Zen 4-based Ryzen CPU that’s capable of doing most things and is quiet and cool between runs. It’s a slim and surprisingly light laptop and there’s quality in most things, except the speakers, but considering the price, it’s hard to complain.

Designing a big-screened laptop that's extremely thin and light is a challenge, but Acer has mastered it with the latest Swift Edge 16. Its magnesium-aluminum construction keeps it strong while keeping it under three pounds. To be sure, almost any 14-inch laptop will be more portable due to its smaller size, but the appeal of a larger display without extra weight or thickness is undeniable. As mentioned, the 15.6-inch LG Gram SuperSlim outlasts this Acer's battery life, but the Swift Edge 16 is by no means useless away from home and counters with a better screen, a lower price, and even a free carrying sleeve. For big-screen portability, the Swift Edge 16 is hard to beat.

With all that out of the way, the Acer Swift Edge 16 is an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a fast, productivity laptop with a beautiful 16-inch OLED display. It’s thin, light, and powerful, with the only drawback being its poor battery life. While we don’t have an India pricing for this laptop since it unfortunately isn’t available here, a direct conversion suggests that this laptop would also be a great value for money purchase were it to ever sell here. The Acer Swift Edge 16 is a thin and lightweight premium laptop offering from Acer which features the new and elusive AMD Ryzen 7 7840U processor, part of AMD’s mythical Phoenix lineup of CPUs. The AMD Ryzen Phoenix chips, part of the Ryzen 7040 series, represent AMD’s latest line of HS-class CPUs designed for ultrathin laptops. These processors, built on a 4nm process and based on the Zen 4 architecture, stand out with their inclusion of a dedicated AI engine called “Ryzen AI.”

The Acer Swift Edge 16 is a solid super thin-and-light that pairs a large, gorgeous 16-inch display with portable design that rivals the weight of LG’s superlight Gram 16. Remarkably, Acer achieves this at a lower price point without sacrificing performance. Boring design and disappointing battery life hold the laptop back from stardom, but its rivals frequently suffer in these areas, too. That makes the Swift Edge 16 an alluring value pick.

On paper, the Acer Swift Edge (SFE16-43) looks like a great device. In reality, that’s more or less true but the machine has its flaws. The magnesium build feels good to the touch but the lid isn’t the most stable one out there. The base rigidness is okay but again, we’ve seen better.

If you’re looking for a fast productivity laptop with a beautiful display, the Swift Edge 16 is a solid choice. It’s incredibly thin and light — not quite as thin as the MacBook Air 15, but much thinner than most 16-inch machines. It’s not perfect, though. Its graphics performance isn’t great, and its battery life is poor. Balanced against that is an attractive list price and an incredible sale price. The Swift Edge 16 is recommended for anyone who wants a larger display, but not a larger laptop.

The Acer Swift Edge 16 (2023) does two things incredibly well – it’s surprisingly thin and light for such a large laptop, and its display is gorgeous. The rest of the package is good enough but not outstanding. And, the price is a little hard to swallow. Then again, you’re paying for a high-res, colour-accurate OLED panel.

The Swift Edge 16 has plenty of hits, but has some misses, too. On one hand, the Swift Edge 16 has a striking display with wide DCI-P3 coverage, but it’s color accuracy is off. The Swift Edge 16 has competition-beating performance scores, slapping the 15-inch M2 MacBook Air silly with its impressive processor, graphics, and video-transcoding benchmarks, but it couldn’t keep up on our file-transfer test. It has a great webcam, but its keyboard and speakers are mid. Finally, its 7-hour runtime is a bit of a bummer. If you want some better options among Acer's Swift portfolio, some of my favorites are Acer Swift X and Acer Swift 14. The former also has a 7-hour runtime, but this can be forgiven due to its power-hungry RTX 4050 GPU. The latter has integrated graphics like the Swift Edge 16, but lasts a beautiful 11 hours and 43 minutes. Hallelujah!

The Acer Swift Edge 16 is a very promising laptop. It has a bright and colourful OLED screen, cutting-edge processor with support for Wi-Fi 7 and a remarkably portable design that’s brimming with ports. I do have concerns about the battery life, as such high-end specs often result in short-lived stamina. But with such a reasonable price for the entry-level model, I still have high hopes for this upcoming laptop that could potentially take over the LG Gram 16 as the best portable big-screen laptop.

Yet with such a beautiful, massive screen – I can’t help but think that this laptop can be doubled as an excellent laptop for watching movies and whatnot. For the price of around RM4k depending on what specs you go for – and that’s why I think this laptop is magnificent.

Alright, guys, the Acer Swift Edge (SFE16-44) isn’t a bad device at all. Its main issue is the fact that it looks and feels almost like a rebrand of last year’s model. The magnesium build seems stealthy and premium. The input devices are average at best. The comfort during long CPU loads is okay. The fans don’t sound too noisy and the keyboard becomes warm to the touch, not scorching hot. The cooling still struggles with the 28W chip. The AMD Ryzen 7 8840U boosts to just 1.81 GHz in long stress which is miles away from the 3.30 GHz official AMD base frequency. However, the Multi-core result in Cinebecnh 2024 is 100 points higher than the one of the SFE16-43 model with a similar Ryzen 7 7840U processor. The display (ATNA60BX03-0 (SDC418D)) is great!

The Swift Edge 16 stands out for its premium build quality and stunning OLED screen. Its lightweight design and extensive connectivity options are also particularly impressive, given its ultra-thin profile. However, its battery life is quite short, and the speakers and keyboard leave room for improvement. It was also outclassed in performance by similarly priced machines.

The Swift Edge 16 is reasonably affordable, and it has a great OLED display. Performance is more than enough for demanding productivity, and it’s very light. It’s a highly portable laptop for productivity users and media consumer who can benefit from a large display. However, the chassis is a bit too flexible, even for similar laptops with magnesium alloy designs. There’s a cost to being so light. More damning, the laptop gets very poor battery life, especially by the standard of newer Windows laptops that last two or three times as long. It’s amazing what a year can do: there’s just too much competition today to accept the Swift Edge 16’s various compromises.

Acer’s Swift Edge 16 is an affordable and alluring pick for people who want a 16-inch laptop with a beautiful display, yet also prefer a laptop that’s thin, light, and affordable. The Swift Edge 16 is generally less expensive than competitive Windows laptops that have similar hardware and a thin-and-light design. However, Acer is forced to reduce the size of the battery to keep the laptop’s weight low, which leads to disappointing battery life: an especially notable problem now that Copilot Plus PCs with up to 20 hours of battery life are available.
