Der Qualcomm-Chipsatz steht dabei stellvertretend für das gesamte Ausstattungspaket: Das Modell Snapdragon 800 wird seit mehr als 18 Monaten verbaut. Die Leistung reicht zwar auch 2015 noch aus, aber es ist eben nicht die neueste Technik, auf die der Hersteller hier setzt. Das Hauptdisplay genügt mit 5 Zoll und 1920 x 1080 Pixeln aktuellen Standards.

Das Android-Smartphone bietet neben einem 5-Zoll-Display mit Full-HD-Auflösung ein eInk-Display auf der Rückseite. Das dient vor allem zur Anzeige von Texten, und das Lesen macht damit tatsächlich mehr Spaß. ... bei Sonnenschein ist es noch gut ablesbar und spart gleichzeitig Akkuleistung. Leider reagiert das eInk-Display auf Berührungen recht träge, und der Preis von etwa 700 Euro ist doch recht happig Endlich mal eine gute Idee: Statt auf Superlative setzt Yota auf lange Akkulaufzeit. Das eInk-Display verlängert die Akkulaufzeit deutlich und ist auch in der Sonne perfekt abzulesen. Wer will, kann das Gerät sogar komplett darüber bedienen. Das zügig bedienbare Yotaphone 2 ist ein ideales Smartphone für alle, die viel auf dem Handy lesen.

Zudem macht es Spaß damit zu experimentieren, das Lesen von Nachrichten ist angenehm und es kann tatsächlich helfen die Akkulaufzeit zu verlängern. Bei starkem Tageslicht ist das E-Ink-Display auch das am besten lesbare Display aller derzeit verfügbaren Smartphones.

Die beiden Seiten des Yotaphone 2 sind wie das Duo Bud Spencer und Terence Hill im Film vier Fäuste für ein Halleluja. Der flinke, unpassenderweise "müder Joe" genannte Hill, ist quicklebendig, sehr schnell und kann eigentlich alles - wie auch das Frontdisplay des Yotaphone 2.

Das Yotaphone 2 ist ein Android-Smartphone mit einem zweiten Display auf der Rückseite. Dieses nutzt die stromsparende E-Ink-Technik, die von E-Book-Readern bekannt ist, und lässt sich so auch bei sehr heller Umgebung gut ablesen. Das Hauptdisplay auf der Vorderseite ist sehr gut, sehr groß und sehr hochauflösend. Das Smartphone unterstützt schnelle LTE-Netze und eignet sich sehr gut zum Surfen. Seine Kamera liefert nur mäßige Videos. Die GPS-Ortung ist nicht sehr genau und ohne Datenverbindung langsam. Gebrauchsanleitung schwach. Der Akku ist gut, lässt sich aber nicht vom Anwender wechseln. Der 32 Gigabyte große interne Speicher ist nicht erweiterbar. Das Gerät benötigt eine Sim-Karte im Nano-Sim-Format.

Das YotaPhone 2 präsentiert sich im Test als gehobenes und gut ausgestattetes Mittelklasse-Smartphone, das sich dank E-Ink-Display auf der Rückseite deutlich von der Konkurrenz abhebt. Einen E-Book-Reader kann es durch die leicht unscharfe Schriftdarstellung nicht ersetzen, wohl aber den Akku entlasten. Denn der E-Ink kann das normale Display komplett spiegeln und ist normal via Touch bedienbar.

Und wieder mal ist es für uns gar nicht so einfach, ein Fazit zu fällen. Für uns ist es ein kleines Meisterstück der Ingenieurskunst: Viel Hardware auf wenig Platz, eine hervorragende Verarbeitung, hohe Leistung und schönes Design. Dadurch erregt man mit ziemlicher Sicherheit fast überall Aufmerksamkeit. Ein Manko bleibt der extrem hohe Preis von ca. 690 Euro (Stand: 25.01.2015), auch die doppelte Bruchgefahr durch das rückseitige Display und die vermutlich hohen Reparaturkosten bringen einen zum Nachdenken. Dadurch bleiben außer einem Bumper kaum Optionen zum Schutz übrig.

To be honest, the YotaPhone 2 is a good device but I can’t help but think that it would be nothing without the e-ink panel. The phone itself is basic and doesn’t offer anything new or relatively interesting. So, you may find yourself using the e-ink display on the back and will be quite happy with what this technology can offer, but the rest of the phone needs to be just as good, if not better, so that both feature-sets can provide an attractive package.

The Yota Phone 2 comes equipped with a 2500mAh battery and the amount of time you’ll get out of it really depends on your usage of the primary and secondary screens. If you get comfortable enough to stop powering the main screen for notifications and reply to text messages and such on the back screen, you’ll surely get more battery out of the Yota than you would out of an Android phone with a similar battery capacity. I had the phone for less than a week and my best case scenario was a day-and-a-half. With a little more practice and familiarity, I might have been able to squeeze a couple of days.

I get the benefits of the EPD on the Yotaphone 2, but ultimately it still feels like a work in progress with clear-cut, everyday advantages still missing. I question just how useful the rear screen is with its slow refresh rates and limited app integration. I'd like to see a slicker interface and some big name developers really get behind it. Ignore the rear display altogether and it's a competent Android smartphone with a decent level of power, mid-range camera and solid build.

The company has had a good stab at creating an interface that works on an E Ink display, but when used in such close quarters with the far more responsive screen on the front, it never stops feeling a bit awkward. Despite warming to the YotaPhone 2 over our four days of use, we're still on the fence about it. Yes, it's a jump forward compared to the original and we can see genuine use from that second screen and we're not going to cry "gimmick" like we thought we might. But with current smartphones already providing a full day's battery anyway, irrelevant of whether you use them to read eBooks on or not, many just won't need to pay a premium for a dual-screen device. The full touch support makes the rear screen much easier to use, it has a potentially huge battery life and we're big fans of the always-on YotaPanels. However, we still feel there's more work to be done before it achieves its full potential, as its E-ink screen just isn't quite good enough to make it a viable alternative to a dedicated eReader. At £555 SIM-free, it's also very expensive, but this is to be expected given the fact it has two screens. There's plenty to like about the Yotaphone 2, but it just falls short of being a truly game-changing handset.

Modell: Das YotaPhone 2 ist das weltweit erste Smartphone mit zwei Bildschirmen, das die E-ink-Technologie nutzt um wichtige Informationen an der Rückseite des Phones anzuzeigen. Diese überraschende Fähigkeit gemeinsam mit dem eleganten Design des Smartphones könnten eine bestechende Kombination sein. Das YotaPhone 2 ist, um gut in die Hand des Nutzers zu passen,  fast wie ein Stein gerundet. Das gesamte Gerät ist schwarz und hat ein minimalistisches Aussehen, das nur durch den modernen E-Ink-Graustufen-Bildschirm an der Rückseite akzentuiert wird.

Das Android-4.4-KitKat-Gerät verfügt über einen Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad-Core-Prozessor mit einer Taktrate von 2,2 GHz, 2 GB RAM und 32 GB internem Speicher und ist damit ein sehr fähiges modernes Gerät. Der Hauptbildschirm ist ein 5-Zoll großes AMOLED-Panel mit FHD-Auflösung und 442 ppi und das Eletronic-Paper-Display mit 16 Graustufen an der Rückseite ist 4,7 Zoll groß. Beide Bildschirme werden durch Corning Gorila Glass 3 geschützt und sind robust und kratzfest. Das YotaPhone 2 wiegt 145 g und liefert Bluetooth 4.0, FM-Radio, NFC und A-GPS+GLONASS.

Es gibt eine 8-MP-Autofokus-Kamera in der Mitte oben an der Rückseite und eine 2,1-MP-Frontkamera für Video-Telefonie. Trotz der beiden Bildschirme ist die Akkulaufzeit mit dem 2500-mAh-Akku ziemlich gut. Es ist eine nette Geste, dass das YotaPhone 2 ohne Kabel lädt.
