Xiaomi unveiled a host of new products this week, but the one that caught our eye was the Mi Mix Fold, Xiaomi's long awaited foldable. Instead of the reverse-folding prototype we got a peek of a few years ago, the Mi Mix Fold looks remarkably like the Galaxy Z Fold 2. It packs in Xiaomi's premium camera tech, with a 108mp main camera, and most notably, a "liquid lens" 8MP camera. Xiaomi is claiming this uses a fluid-filled lens to shift between a telephoto and macro shooter. Impressive if true, though we'll want to test it. The Mi Mix Fold is debuting at 9,999 yuan, around $1,500, a good deal cheaper than the folding options from other companies, though you may have trouble finding one in the USA.

Xiaomi usually offers close to excellent video recording experience on its flagship smartphones, and it's beyond us what happened for this Mix Fold 2. So, the Mix Fold 2 is a great foldable device and a good smartphone. We are sure it will find fans across China as it is a country where sometimes software means more than hardware, and MIUI has the upper hand. It is not the best foldable, that's for sure, but it is the thinnest one. And our verdict is quite simple - if you like it, you buy it as it's a worthy device. If its imperfections bother you - look elsewhere. But if you don't live in China, or nearby, we can't in good conscience recommend gray importing it - not like we did the Ultra models. Foldables break a lot more often than regular phones. And if this Mix Fold 2 does crack, you will end up with one fancy paperweight with nowhere to service it.

With an overall score of 130, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 delivered a good performance in the DXOMARK Audio tests and showed very noticeable improvements over its predecessor, the Mix Fold 2. The Mix Fold 3 especially shone as a recording device, thanks to a very pleasant timbre and very effective wind noise reduction. Only when recording loud events, such as concerts, did the Xiaomi show some weaknesses. Overall recording results were best with the main camera, but the front camera and memo app were almost on the same level. Playback was not quite on the same high level as the recording results but still decent. Sure, the MIUI software build on this specific model is not great, but it’s designed for Chinese audiences, and a global MIUI ROM would undoubtedly iron out some admittedly minor complaints. As has been said about many China-only devices over the past few years, if no release is planned outside of the region, Samsung will remain steadfast at the top of the foldable sales charts for some time yet. Luckily, we could learn more about a global launch at IFA in just a few weeks. We’re eager to see how and where Xiaomi positions the Mix Fold 3, as it could be one of the phones to beat in 2023 and beyond.

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is here. It's slightly thinner and lighter than the Mix Fold 2, and gets two new zoom lenses: a 3.2X telephoto and 5X Periscope, both with OIS and Leica lenses. The main camera also got an upgrade to the Sony IMX800 with a f/1.8 aperture. There's also a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip here that's the same overclocked version as seen in Samsung's 2023 flagships.

Xiaomi:

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Qualcomm Adreno 660: Grafikchip für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. Laut Qualcomm um 35% schneller und um 20% effizienter als die alte Adreno 650 im Snapdragon 865.

Qualcomm Adreno 730: Grafikchip für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Laut Qualcomm um 30% schneller als die alte Adreno 660 im Snapdragon 888.

Qualcomm Adreno 740: Grafikchip für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Schnellster Grafikchips für Smartphones gegen Ende 2022 und schlägt auch die GPU im Apple A16 (iPhone 14 Pro).

SD 888 5G: High-End SoC (System on a Chip) für Smartphones welcher Ende 2020 vorgestellt wurde. Integriert unter anderen einen schnellen Cortex-X1 "Prime Core" mit bis zu 2,84 GHz und drei weitere schnelle Cortex-A78 basierende Performance-Kerne. Zum Stromsparen wurden außerdem 4 weitere ARM Cortex-A55 Kerne verbaut. Integriert ein 5G Modem, WiFi 6e und eine Hexagon 780 AI Engine mit bis zu 26 TOPS.

SD 8+ Gen 1: High-End SoC (System on a Chip) für Smartphones welcher Ende 2021 vorgestellt wurde. Integriert unter anderen einen schnellen Cortex-X2 "Prime Core" mit bis zu 3,2 GHz und drei weitere schnelle Cortex-A710 basierende Performance-Kerne mit bis zu 2,5 GHz. Zum Stromsparen wurden außerdem 4 weitere ARM Cortex-A510 Kerne verbaut. Integriert ein 5G Modem, WiFi 6e und eine Hexagon AI Engine. Im Vergleich zum SD 8 Gen 1 bietet die Plus Version einen um 200 MHz höher getakteten Prime Core und einen 10% höheren GPU-Takt.

SD 8 Gen 2: High-End SoC (System on a Chip) für Smartphones welcher Ende 2022 vorgestellt wurde. Integriert unter anderen einen schnellen Cortex-X3 "Prime Core" mit bis zu 3,2 GHz und zwei weitere schnelle Cortex-A715 2,8 GHz für 64-Bit Anwendungen. Zwei weitere schnelle A710 (ebenfalls 2,8 GHz) können auch ältere 32-Bit Anwendungen verarbeiten. Zum Stromsparen wurden außerdem 4 weitere ARM Cortex-A510 Kerne verbaut. Integriert ein 5G Modem, WiFi 7 und eine Hexagon AI Engine.
