Nun hat AMD die neue Fusion Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) vorgestellt, die einen geringeren Strombedarf haben soll als die älteren Athlon II Neo V.

Our only major concern is the very low amount of memory. 1GB may be suitable for a Linux environment, but Windows 7 is at its heart a memory-hungry desktop OS. Once you assign RAM to the integrated graphics, and hand over what Windows demands, there is around 100MB of free RAM to use for applications. This will ultimately be the main bottleneck in the NB550D, and even doubling it would likely push this straight to the A-List. It does perfectly well for productivity tasks, like word processing and Internet use, but too much multitasking does slow down the laptop, especially since it only has 1GB of memory. The integrated graphics processor is completely unable to play any 3D games and is only adequate enough for online video playback and some light multimedia use. The Toshiba Mini NB505's 6-cell battery lasts an average of 7:00-7:30 hours, which is longer than other similar netbooks by almost an hour.

Like the NB520, Toshiba's NB550 is very attractive and well-built. Its AMD Fusion innards give it the ability to handle Full HD video on and off-line as well as providing an HDMI-output, strengths which put it a step above most budget netbooks. Other specifications are basic and the screen is still sub-HD, but considering its low price these issues are easy to forgive. Throw in the soft-touch finish, decent battery life and excellent speakers, and you have one of the better entrants in its class – though heavy discounts on older ultraportables make for strong competition.

Like the slow hard drive, getting Windows Starter is an example of the way the NB550 isn't a particularly well balanced system. Putting something more powerful than the Atom into a netbook form factor reveals that there are other disadvantages to the netbook than the middling performance. The small screen and keyboard are actually a better match for a processor that doesn't encourage you to use more demanding programs; the C-50 processor makes you want to do more and we'd like to see it in something more like a 12-inch ultraportable with a fast hard drive. With this performance and battery life and at this price, the Toshiba N550 is a winner; what's disappointing is that it could be rather more.

Mit dem NB550D-11D setzt Toshiba weiterhin auf die derzeit beste Netbook-Plattform, AMDs Ontario-Serie mit dem C-60. Damit wird das Toshiba-Netbook voll videotauglich und verbindet gleichzeitig eine ausreichende Rechenleistung mit guter Akkulaufzeit. Toshiba: Die Toshiba Corporation ist ein japanischer Misch- bzw Technologiekonzern. Die Firma entstand 1939 und 1978 wurde Toshiba offizieller Firmenname. Zu den Produkten und Dienstleistungen des Unternehmens gehören Energie, industrielle und soziale Infrastruktursysteme, Aufzüge und Rolltreppen, elektronische Komponenten, Halbleiter, Festplatten, Drucker, Batterien, Beleuchtung, Logistik und Informationstechnologie. Toshiba war einer der größten Hersteller von Personal Computern, Unterhaltungselektronik, Haushaltsgeräten und medizinischen Geräten.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

AMD Radeon HD 6250: Integrierte Grafikkarte in den Ontario Netbook Prozessoren (z.B. C-50 und C-30) mit UVD3 Video Prozessor und keinem eigenen Speicher.

AMD Radeon HD 6290: Integrierte Grafikkarte im AMD C-60 Ontario Netbook Prozessoren mit UVD3 Video Prozessor und keinem eigenen Speicher. Im Vergleich zur HD 6250 mit selbem Basis Takt von 280MHz und Turbo Core bis zu 400MHz.

AMD C-Series:

C-30: Intel Atom Konkurrent mit relativ schneller integrierter Grafikkarte. Der Einzelkernprozessor ist auf Grund seiner geringen Taktung wahrscheinlich langsamer als Einzelkern Atoms mit 1.6GHz.

C-50: Intel Atom Konkurrent mit relativ schneller integrierter Grafikkarte. Der Doppelkernprozessor ist auf Grund seiner geringen Taktung wohl nur auf dem Niveau von Einzelkern Atoms mit 1.6GHz.

C-60: Intel Atom Konkurrent mit relativ schneller integrierter Grafikkarte. Der Doppelkernprozessor ist auf Grund seiner geringen Taktung wohl nur auf dem Niveau von Einzelkern Atoms mit 1.6GHz, bietet jedoch für Grafik und Prozessorkerne einen Turbo Core zur automatischen Übertaktung.
