On the pricing thing, however, this isn't the top-spec Transcend 14 I'm testing here. And I'm very glad of that fact considering the RTX 4070 version, with a Core Ultra 9 CPU, and 32GB of memory, is a rather shocking $500 more than this setup. And I don't think I'd be super happy paying that extra for what you'd get out of it. This RTX 4060 version then feels like the pinnacle of the ickle HP Omen line and I'm very much here for it. If only it had a better battery life I'd want one in my life full-time, but if that's not a huge concern for you—and some four hour work time is enough for you—then I've no hesitation recommending the Transcend 14. It's small, feels great to use, has a decent level of gaming performance, a gorgeous OLED screen as standard, and is impressively affordable. Yeah, I like it a lot.

That’s where this laptop comes in. If you want a 14-inch device that handles anything you throw at it, and you want it at the right price, then this is a great option. Tradeoffs include RAM upgradability, and more than usual heating when you run demanding games at max settings. So, if you’re a gamer first and creator second, I’d suggest you look at the Transcend 16 or explore alternatives from ASUS or Alienware, which will cost money.

Our time with the laptop at CES was very brief, but now we have an example and we're ready for a full review. And we're ready to address a burning question. Is it possible a laptop this thin and light could conceivably be a gaming laptop? Spoiler alert, the answer's oh yes it can.
