Mit seinem XPS 13 aus dem Jahr 2018 hat Dell einen Laptop geschaffen, an dem nur die anspruchsvollsten User, etwas zu bemängeln finden werden. Es gibt billigere Konkurrenten, doch XPS 13 überbietet erfolgreich Microsofts Surface-Produktpalette in puncto Preisleistungsverhältnis. Nachdem Dell viele Generation lang beim gleichen Gehäuse geblieben ist, haben sie ihrem Premium-Flagship nun schlankere Abmessungen und eine schöne weiß-goldene Farbe verpasst. Das XPS 13 9370 wiegt nur 1,2 kg (2,65 Pfund) und ist an der dicksten Stelle bloß 1,17 cm (0,46 Zoll) hoch sowie 0,76 cm (0,3 Zoll) an der schlanksten Stelle. Durch das Verringern der Bauhöhe auf 1,17 cm musste Dell beim XPS 13 leider auf USB-Type-A-Ports und einen SD-Kartenleser in voller Größe verzichten, die die vorigen Generationen boten. An der linken Seite des XPS 13 9370 befinden sich zwei Thunderbolt-3-Ports, die zum Aufladen des Laptops und zum Anschluss von High-Speed-Peripherie genutzt werden können. Zudem gibt es einen Noble-Lock-Slot und eine Akku-Ladestandsanzeige, die aus einer Reihe von fünf weißen Lichtern besteht. Der Laptop verfügt über eine Core i7-8550U CPU, 16 GB RAM, eine 1 TB SSD und einen 4K-Touchscreen. Dank Dells neuem Kühlsystem halten diese Laptops bei langen Aufgaben, wie Komprimierung von 4K-Videos oder zehnmaliges Laufen des gleichen Benchmarks, länger durch. Da sie sich bei intensiven Aufgaben erhitzen, drosseln die meisten Laptops zum Kühlen ihre CPUs. Dank seiner neuen thermischen Lösung mit zwei Lüftern, zwei Heatpipes und spezieller Wärmedämmung kann das XPS 13 9370 ein derart starkes Throttling des Prozessors wie bei vielen anderen Laptops verhindern. Mit seiner integrierten Intel UHD 620 GPU eignet sich das XPS 13 9370 ausreichend gut für leichte Videobearbeitung oder das Spielen von Games mit niedrigen Einstellungen. Der 13,3 Zoll große InfinityEdge-Bildschirm des XPS 13 9370 hat um 23 Prozent schlankere Rahmen als die fast nicht existenten Rahmen beim XPS 7360. Da es entlang der Oberkante und den Seiten fast keinen Rahmen gibt, treten Bilder stärker hervor. Der Touchscreen mit 3.840 x 2.160 4K Ultra HD Auflösung sieht unglaublich aus. Die ungesund hohe Auflösung sieht am 13-Zoll-Panel erstaunlich aus und die Farben sind angenehm gesättigt. Dell behauptet, das der 52 Wh-Akku unter bestimmten Bedingungen bis zu 19 Stunden durchhalten kann. Der Laptop zeichnet sich in puncto Akkulaufzeit aus und lädt mit dem mitgelieferten Ladeadapter deutlich schneller. Beachten Sie, dass Dell die Akkukapazität gegenüber den 60 Wh der vorigen Generation verringert hat, um Gewicht und Abmessungen zu verringern. Prozessoren der nächsten Generation sollten die kleinere Kapazität effizienter machen. Mit dem XPS 13 9370 hat Dell die Webcam von der oberen linken Ecke des Rahmens nach unten mittig verschoben. Dell: Dell ist ein 1984 gegründeter US-amerikanischer Hersteller (Sitz Texas) von Computer-Hardware und gehört zu den grössten internationalen Herstellern sowohl in Bezug auf Marktanteile als auch hinsichtlich Notebook-Modellen. Die Produktpalette umfasst unter anderem Desktops, Notebooks, Speichersysteme, Monitore, Server, Drucker, Unterhaltungselektronik und Peripheriegeräte. Dell bietet Laptops an, die ich für verschiedene Einsatzbereiche eignen, z. B. Business-Laptops, Gaming-Laptops, Ultra-Portables und Workstations. Die Business-Notebooks von Dell aus den Latitude- und Precision-Serien sind eine Option für professionelle Anwender und Unternehmen.
2023 hatte Dell einen ungefähren Marktanteil von 17% am weltweiten PC-Absatz und war damit die Nummer 3 nach Lenovo und HP.
Für Gaming-Enthusiasten ist die Marke Alienware von Dell für Gaming-Notebooks vorgesehen.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrierte Grafikkarte (GT2-Ausbau, 24 EUs), welche in einigen Kaby-Lake-CPUs (Refresh, ULV-Modelle, 15 Watt TDP) verbaut wird. Technisch identisch zur HD Graphics 620 in den Kaby-Lake Modellen aus 2016.
