Zumindest optisch lässt sich das Smartphone seinen niedrigen Preis nicht anmerken. Für ein 5-Zoll-Gerät ist das ZenFone 5 etwas groß geraten. Das Highlight des Geräts ist der parallele Betrieb von zwei SIM-Karten, die sich beide ins 3G-Netz einbuchen können. Die Kamera bietet zwar viele Einstellungsmöglichkeiten, die Qualität der Bilder bewegt sich eher im Mittelfeld. Die Prozessor- und Akkuleistung ermöglichen das reibungslose Ausführen von alltäglichen Aufgaben während eines vollen Nutzungstages.

It is a very compelling package having a great screen, decent camera, good performance and a nice software skin. The only device that comes close is the Moto G. Asus should have released the ZenFone 5 eight months ago. Had Asus done that, it might have propelled it to the top of the mid-range Android class. As it is, Asus misses out not by having a weak device, instead it is the timing that seems wrong.

It's an excellent phone in most respects, and should help put Asus on the map as a phone-maker to watch out for if you want a good-value phone. For now it’s a pretty good alternative to the Motorola Moto G if you want a slightly larger screen. If that sounds like you, stick it on your shortlist. There are a couple of little bits to tweak in the Asus Zenfone 5, but the value on offer here is fantastic. Other 5-inch phones at the price don’t get you screens anywhere near as good as this.

É uma baita grana, dá para fazer bastante coisa com dois mil reais, mas esse é o ponto em que chegamos: um celular que não pode ser considerado topo de linha custa isso aí, seja ele da Asus, da Motorola ou da Samsung.

Das Asus Zenfone 5 nutzt eine Dual-Core-Plattform. Mit einer Taktrate von 1,6 GHz und 2 GB RAM ist es relativ leistungsstark. Der Chip liefert bessere Leistung als der Snapdragon 400 SoC der oft in Phones dieser Preisklasse anzutreffen ist. Der 5-Zoll-IPS-Bildschirm wird sieht robust aus und fühlt sich auch so an. Dank Corning Corilla Glas ist das Phone kratzfest.
Das Zenfone 5 ist in schwarz, weiß, rot, violett und gold erhältlich. Sein kapazitiver Touchscreen hat eine Auflösung von 1280 x 720 und 16 M Farben. Er liefert lebendige Farben und die IPS-Technologie verspricht auch gute Blickwinkel.
Das Phone läuft unter Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) und Zen UI, eine der besseren Benutzerschnittstellen für das Android-System. Außerdem verfügt es über eine 8 MP Kamera an der Rückseite und eine 2 MP Kamera an der Vorderseite. Mit seinem 2100 mAh Akku hält es leicht einen Tag durch. Die Akkulaufzeit beträgt bis zu 353 Stunden in Standby und 18 Stunden Sprechzeit, jeweils mit aktiven 3G.
Das Zenfone 5 ist mit einer Speicherkapazität von 8 GB oder 16 GB verfügbar. Der Speicher kann via microSD-Slot, der bis zu 64 GB unterstützt, erweitert werden. Leider kann das Phone gelegentlich unter zu starker Erwärmung leiden, wenn es für längere Zeit genutzt wird, da es mit einem Intel Prozessor ausgestattet ist.
