With an edge-to-edge glossy screen, dual-core chip and supermodel looks, the ultrathin Asus UX30-QX011C laptop is something of a tribute act to the Apple MacBook Air.  Good looking, lightweight and a decent performer, the Asus UX30-QX011C wins points for its solid spec at a sub-£1,000 price. We can't understand why it runs Vista, however, and there are enough gripes with the hardware to tempts us to look elsewhere.

Not the fastest laptop, but good mobility and excellent quality and style. The Asus UX30 is the second Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage (CULV) laptop we've seen but, unlike the Advent Altro, this machine is aimed at the top end of the market. With its stunning design, usability and quality, the UX30 is easy to like. It's underpowered in comparison to rivals such as Apple's MacBook Air – although it's also cheaper – but if you're after something for the commute and place style over speed, it's worth a look.

Despite the fact most other CULV laptops are selling for considerably less than the Asus UX30’s £999 price tag, it’s difficult not to be impressed by this stylish machine. Few laptops can offer such a great mix of style and quality at this price, and the compact dimensions and light weight make it a great companion for the daily commute. Look elsewhere if value for money is high on your agenda, however, and the same goes for those of you seeking a portable powerhouse.

The Dell Adamo is one manufacturer's attempt to offer a Windows PC alternative to Apple's svelte MacBook Air. The Asus UX30 is another. This £1,000 thin-and-light laptop with an ultra-low-voltage processor apes Apple's machine to a surprising degree. There's plenty to like about the Asus UX30. It's better value than the Dell Adamo and has a better specification than the MSI X340. At £1,000, though, it's not that much cheaper than the MacBook Air and, while it's a fantastic-looking laptop, it's nowhere near as lust-worthy as Apple's offering.

We’ve been lusting after the new breed of thin and light CULV laptops ever since we saw the gorgeous MSI X320 at this year’s CES and now models are starting to arrive in earnest. We’ll have a review of the Advent Altro for you next week, but first up is the ASUS UX30. CULV laptops are based on Intel’s Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (geddit?) processors and these offer energy efficiency approaching that of the Intel Atom, but better performance. The ASUS UX30 is an impressive first entry into the CULV laptop market, but it’s a bit too expensive for what’s on offer and the specification doesn’t quite tally with the premium price.

ASUS ist mit dem Zenbook UX51VZ ein Premium-Notebook der Superlative gelungen, das sehr vieles richtig macht und vom Käufer nur kleine Kompromisse abverlangt. ASUS setzt beim UX51VZ im Grunde genommen auf das bekannte Zenbook-Design, was sicherlich nicht verkehrt ist, konnten uns die flache Keilform, der mit konzentrischen Kreisen versehene Deckel und die vorzügliche Verarbeitungsqualität doch bislang jedes Mal begeistern – und das ändert sich auch im 15-Zoll-Segment nicht.

Asus hat mit dem Zenbook UX51 ein echtes Schmuckstück in der „Fast-ein-Ultrabook“-Klasse an den Start gebracht, das mit dem MacBook Pro Retina konkurriert. Gerade was die Performance angeht, kann das UX51 punkten: Office, Internet und einige 3D-Games laufen dank der Kombination aus Quad-Core-Prozessor und spieletauglicher Grafiklösung problemlos.

I really like the UX51VZ, but there have been a few flies in the ointment. One is that WiFi connectivity is intermittent—there’s a workaround that involves disabling Bluetooth support, but while I can live with that it’s not ideal for many people. Pricing is a second concern, and even at the now-reduced pricing I still feel the UX51VZ is priced a couple hundred dollars too high for most.

Asus Zenbook UX51Z will boot from cold to Desktop in less than 30 seconds. Asus have provided a measly 12-month guarantee free of charge; a warranty upgrade is recommended on a near-$2000 notebook – you should be able to get one at the store. Otherwise the Zenbook UX51VZ is an eminently capable machine.

But few though the cons may be, they could be reason enough to justify passing this system up. The machine verges on cost-prohibitive, especially considering the battery life isn't great and there's no touchscreen for interacting with Windows 8.

Das Asus Zenbook UX303LA sieht nicht nur schick aus, bei diesem UItrabook stimmen auch die inneren Werte. Die Hardwareausstattung entspricht dem, was die aktuellen Topmodelle der Ultrabooks leisten können und das zu einem recht attraktiven Preis von 999 Euro. Zwar wäre ein Full HD-Display das Tüpfelchen auf dem I gewesen, bei 13,3 Zoll geht die gebotene Auflösung von 1.600 x 900 Pixeln jedoch mehr als in Ordnung.

This is a high-class laptop with a surprising price but, get beyond its looks, and it’s obvious where corners have been cut to keep the costs down. Asus has had to pick and choose its priorities because of this machine’s lower price, but it’s done a great job with the UX303LA: the screen might not be class-leading, but it makes up for the middling monitor with great power levels, superb ergonomics and good battery life – and not forgetting the smart design. This is an impressive, affordable alternative to pricier ultraportable competitors.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. ist ein großer taiwanesischer Hersteller von Computer-Hardware mit Sitz in Taipeh, gegründet 1989. Unter dem Markennamen Asus fertigt das Unternehmen eine breite Palette von Produkten, darunter Laptops, Desktops, Motherboards, Grafikkarten, Monitore, Smartphones und Netzwerkgeräte, Komplettsysteme und PC-Bauteile für Endkunden.

Unter dem Markennamen ROG (Republic of Gamers) stellt ASUS Gaming-Laptops her, die bei Spielern für ihre leistungsstarken Spezifikationen, dedizierten Grafikkarten, Displays mit hoher Bildwiederholrate und fortschrittlichen Kühlsystemen bekannt sind.

Über das Gaming hinaus werden eine breite Palette von Notebooks für unterschiedliche Anforderungen und Budgets geboten: von ultraschlanken und leichten Ultrabooks bis hin zu vielseitigen 2-in-1-Convertibles und budgetfreundlichen Optionen. 2023 hatte Asus einen Weltmarktanteil von 7% am PC-Markts.

Die Kundenzufriedenheit mit ASUS-Notebooks betrifft Leistung, die Funktionen und das gute Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis der ASUS-Notebooks. Wie bei jeder Marke gibt es jedoch gelegentlich Berichte über Probleme wie Überhitzung, Treiberkompatibilität oder Probleme mit der Verarbeitungsqualität.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Im GM45, GS45 und GE45 Chipsatz (Montevina Plattform) integrierte shared Memory Grafikkarte von Intel. Durch höhere Taktung und mehr Shader ist sie deutlich schneller als die X3100, jedoch immer noch nicht für Spieler empfehlenswert. Kann HD-Videos (AVC/VC2/MPEG2) dekodieren und so die CPU entlasten.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M: Stärkster GT Chip der 600M Serie und daher eine sehr schnelle Mittelklasse Grafikkarte basierend auf den GK107 Chip.

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

Intel HD Graphics 4400: In den Haswell-Prozessoren (4. Generation Core) integrierte Grafikkarte in mittlerer Ausbaustufe (GT2). Je nach Prozessor unterschiedlich getaktet.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

3612QM: Auf der Ivy Brige Architektur basierender Quad-Core Prozessor mit 2.1-3.1 GHz Taktung, integrierter HD Graphics 4000 Grafikkarte (650-1100MHz) und integriertem Dualchannel DDR3 Speicherkontroller. Als Besonderheit weist der i7-3612QM nur einen TDP von 35 Watt auf (gegenüber 45 Watt der restlichen Core i7 Quad-Cores).

4510U: Auf der Haswell-Architektur basierender ULV Dual-Core Prozessor mit integrierter Grafikkarte und DDR3-Speicherkontroller.
