The world’s most powerful mobile workstation has landed in the office (well, my home to be more accurate because #WFH) – the ASUS ProArt StudioBook One (W590). It takes that bragging right by virtue of its NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 GPU, which boast a whopping 24GB of GDDR6 memory, and is intended to help bridge the gap between powerful, but bulky, desktop workstations and laptops. It also cost an face-melting S$18,688. Clearly, this notebook isn’t for the likes of you and I. Rather, the ProArt StudioBook series are built to cater to very specific needs of graphics professionals, digital artists, animators, and more. To provide these creators with a portable system with workstation-class power, enabling them to take advantage of it wherever they go.

Well, even by looking at the price, I guess most of us would understand that this isn’t a machine meant for us. Heck, I didn’t even know how to fully test out such a system. With what I have, I can see that the ASUS ProArt StudioBook One is truly quite an interesting machine. But overall I think that this machine is probably more of a concept design than a laptop that ASUS and NVIDIA expects to fly off shelves.

While it took Asus a while to have this product ready for sale, the StudioBook Pro W700 is mostly an excellent effort. It's compact and light for a 17-inch laptop, nicely crafted, packs a fast and quiet keyboard, excellent IO and a 16:10 wide-gamut screen you'll hardly find anywhere else at this moment. It also checks the right boxes in terms of performance, thermals, and acoustics, with few limitations, as explained in this article. Too bad Asus couldn't pack a larger battery, though, this aspect alone might be a deal-breaker for some of you.

I really enjoyed using the ProArt StudioBook 15 to edit photos, watch videos and browse the web. It has a fantastic 4K display, blistering-fast performance, and a stylish design. I'm also impressed by the specs you get for $1,999 -- a Core i7-9750H CPU, 32GB of RAM, 1TB of fast storage and a GeForce RTX 2060 GPU.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. ist ein großer taiwanesischer Hersteller von Computer-Hardware mit Sitz in Taipeh, gegründet 1989. Unter dem Markennamen Asus fertigt das Unternehmen eine breite Palette von Produkten, darunter Laptops, Desktops, Motherboards, Grafikkarten, Monitore, Smartphones und Netzwerkgeräte, Komplettsysteme und PC-Bauteile für Endkunden.

Unter dem Markennamen ROG (Republic of Gamers) stellt ASUS Gaming-Laptops her, die bei Spielern für ihre leistungsstarken Spezifikationen, dedizierten Grafikkarten, Displays mit hoher Bildwiederholrate und fortschrittlichen Kühlsystemen bekannt sind.

Über das Gaming hinaus werden eine breite Palette von Notebooks für unterschiedliche Anforderungen und Budgets geboten: von ultraschlanken und leichten Ultrabooks bis hin zu vielseitigen 2-in-1-Convertibles und budgetfreundlichen Optionen. 2023 hatte Asus einen Weltmarktanteil von 7% am PC-Markts.

Die Kundenzufriedenheit mit ASUS-Notebooks betrifft Leistung, die Funktionen und das gute Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis der ASUS-Notebooks. Wie bei jeder Marke gibt es jedoch gelegentlich Berichte über Probleme wie Überhitzung, Treiberkompatibilität oder Probleme mit der Verarbeitungsqualität.

High-End Grafikkarten welche auch neueste und anspruchsvolle 3D-Spiele in hohen Auflösungen und Detailstufen flüssig wiedergeben können. Durch den hohen Stromverbrauch, werden diese GPUs nur in großen und schweren Notebooks mit geringen Akkulaufzeiten angeboten.

NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 (Laptop): High-End Notebook-Grafikkarte und schnellste Turing Version für Notebooks zum Launch. Technisch ähnlich zur Desktop Quadro RTX 6000 jedoch mit deutlich reduzierten Taktraten. Laus Nvidia soll die Leistung im SpecViewPerf 13 etwa 13% unterhalb der Desktop-Version liegen. Durch den hohen Stromverbrauch von 200 Watt, nur für große und schwere Notebooks mit guter Kühlung geeignet. 

Diese Grafikkarten sollten alle modernen Spiele flüssig darstellen können. Anspruchsvolle Spiele müssen jedoch in mittlerer Detailstufe gespielt werden. Ältere und weniger anspruchsvolle Spiele wie die Sims Serie können auch in hohen Detailsstufen flüssig dargestellt werden.

NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 (Laptop): High-End Notebook-Grafikkarte und schnellste Turing Version für Notebooks zum Launch. Technisch ähnlich zur Desktop Quadro RTX 5000 jedoch mit deutlich reduzierten Taktraten. Neben den deutlich niedriger getakteten Max-Q Varianten, ist die normale Max-P in 110 W (1035 - 1545 MHz) und 150 W (1350 - 1770 MHz) verfügbar. Im Vergleich zur ähnlich schnellen GeForce RTX 2080 für Consumer-Notebooks, bietet die Quadro RTX 5000 mehr Shader (3072 versus 2944).

NVIDIA Quadro T2000 (Laptop): Professionelle Mid-Range Notebook-Grafikkarte der Turing Generation. Mit 1024 Shadern zwischen den Consumer GTX 1660 Ti und 1650 angesiedelt. Bietet keine Raytracing und Tensor-Kerne im Gegensatz zu den stärkeren RTX Modellen. 

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile: Mid-Range Notebook-Grafikkarte mit 6 GDDR6-Grafikspeicher (192 Bit) und nach der offiziellen Vorstellung die drittschnellste mobile Turing-GPU. Verfügt über 1.920 Shadereinheiten und verglichen zu der Desktop-Variante mit verringerten Taktraten.

Intel Coffee Lake:

i9-9980HK: Auf der Coffee-Lake-Architektur basierender SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für große Notebooks. Integriert unter anderem acht CPU-Kerne mit 2,4 - 5 GHz (4,2 GHz bei 8 Kernen) und HyperThreading sowie eine Grafikeinheit und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt. Dank freiem Multiplikator ist ein Übertakten der CPU möglich. Die 5 GHz werden nur mit Thermal Velocity Boost erreicht, sonst ist der maximale Turbo 4,9 GHz.

i7-9750H: Auf der Coffee-Lake-Architektur basierender SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für große Notebooks. Integriert unter anderem sechs CPU-Kerne mit 2,6 - 4,5 GHz (4 GHz bei allen 6 Kernen) und HyperThreading sowie eine Grafikeinheit und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt.

E-2276M: Auf der Coffee-Lake-Architektur basierender SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für große Notebooks. Integriert unter anderem sechs CPU-Kerne mit 2,8 - 4,7 GHz und HyperThreading sowie eine Grafikeinheit und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt.

17.00: Diese Displaygrösse ist ein Standardformat für Desktop-Replacements. Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind. Dafür genießt man die Vorzüge hoher Auflösungen (mehr Details, besser lesbar).
