ASUS positioniert die N10-Reihe als Netbook für gehobene Ansprüche - mit gehobenem Preis. In der getesteten Version zum Listenpreis von 499 Euro bringt es neben dem durchaus schicken Design wirklich gute Ausstattung, gute Batterielaufzeit und ein gleichmäßig ausgeleuchtetes Display mit. Die Verarbeitung liegt auf hohem Niveau, und auch die Tastatur ist in Ordnung. Durch das etwas größere Format des Gehäuses besitzen die meisten ihrer Tasten Standardmaße. Die Benchmark-Ergebnisse bescheinigen dem N10E typische Netbook-Performance - was aufgrund der Hardware auch nicht weiter Wunder nimmt.

It's hard not to like the N10 when it's sitting in front of you, but we can't help coming back to its neither-fish-nor-fowl nature. Think of it as a notebook, and its performance and low screen size and resolution will disappoint. Consider it a netbook, and it's expensive and bulky. This is a shame, because the N10 packs in a heck of a lot of technology for the price and it looks great. But it sits right between two stools, and we think most buyers will opt for either a smaller netbook or a larger, more powerful notebook.

Das Asus N10E und N10J ist die erste Subnotebook-Alternative zu den sonst recht günstigen Netbooks. Die Asus N10 Serie ist hochwertig und edel verarbeitet worden, die Ausstattung ist wirklich vorzüglich und besser als das bekannte Netbook Niveau, die Tastatur ergonomischer. Vor allem das Modell N10J bietet mit der integrierten GeForce 9300M GS Grafikkarte eine 10x höhere Performance bei 3D-Anwendungen. Um Strom zu sparen, kann man aber diese Grafik ausschalten, damit erreicht das Subnotebook vorbildliche 6 Stunden Akkulaufzeit. Das installierte Windows Vista überfordert das Atom System deutlich, wir empfehlen den Downgrade auf Windows XP. All diese Vorzüge kosten natürlich mehr, im Vergleich zum Eee PC 1000H Netbook muss man zwischen 100 und 200 EUR tiefer in die Tasche greifen. Doch für all diejenigen, die mehr Business-Ansprüche haben und nicht mit billigen Netbooks bzw. Eee PCs assoziiert werden möchten, ist die N10 Serie die ideale Alternative, auch wenn HDTV Videos trotz GeForce Grafik nicht flüssiger laufen.

Wie übrigens auch die sehr mäßige Leistung - wer halbwegs aktuelles Rechentempo benötigt, sollte das Asus N10J meiden.

With more power than the average netbook it is a great solution for those looking for a secondary computer and for some such as myself as their main notebook. Personally I do not own any other computer at this time other than the N10. If you plan to use this as your main notebook an external monitor with a higher resolution is a must. I would recommend this notebook for those who would like to have a very portable, light gaming notebook with good battery time.

If you had to describe the Asus N10J in a word, it would be flexibility. The N10 has the form factor of a netbook, allowing for maximum portability, while trying to be a full laptop. It includes switchable graphics to change from performance mode to power-saving mode. It's almost as though Asus has put all of its eggs in a single basket - so the question is, did it break any along the way? After using the N10J for a few weeks I can say that it’s not my favorite 10-inch, Atom-powered computer, but it’s certainly an interesting specimen. My netbook usage generally doesn’t require the extra power, but if you are looking for a netbook as an alternative to a notebook or you just want the extra graphical power and storage (along with extras like HDMI and ExpressCard) then the N10J is almost the only game in town. It’s not an impulse buy, but if you are looking at the N10J as a 10-inch ultraportable and one with discrete graphics, the price is somewhat more reasonable. The switchable graphics help with versatility, but ultimately not that many people need the extra power in this form-factor.

As you can see, there’s not a lot to separate the N10J from the Wind. As far as we can tell, there are only four advantages that the N10J has; a bigger hard drive, faster wireless, NVIDIA graphics and Vista. And we’re not really convinced that having Vista is actually an advantage, given the humble hardware it’s running on. As far as we’re concerned, the only noteworthy difference is the inclusion of the NVIDIA hardware, which is barely able to run anything released in the last decade. We’re sure you’ll agree that this $30 NVIDIA chip doesn’t warrant a $400 higher price tag.

If your company was looking for a netbook for corporate use, it would likely choose the N10 above the rest simply due to the comprehensive warranty and security features alone. While biometric fingerprint readers aren't exactly the defining feature they once were since they have become standard equipment on business notebooks, they are still a unique feature for a netbook, as is the N10's excellent warranty. The ASUS N10 also has two more defining features that help to distinguish it from the rest of the clone-like netbook market. The N10 is the first and only netbook to sport discrete graphics, in the form of NVIDIA's GeForce 9300M.

The ASUS N10, while performing quite well in our testing in overall performance, didn’t see much gain in day-to-day use from the dedicated graphics. While the addition nets you an HDMI port, it doesn’t help with decoding HD movies or help with many games since the Intel Atom processor doesn’t have enough power to handle those activities. While you do get a classier looking design with a much nicer paint scheme and slightly slimmer look, you pay a price premium over the Eee PC 1000. With a price tag nearly 50 percent greater than other netbook models, even more when compared to new HP and Dell offerings, it seems ASUS might have priced themselves out of the consumer market with the N10.

Einige bezeichnen die Asus N10 Serie als Netbooks die keine Netbooks sind. Der Grund dafür sind diverse Unterschiede zum "typischen" Netbook, wobei der N10E immerhin auf der Atom Platform basiert und so zumindest CPU und GPU technisch identisch mit den meisten Netbooks sind. Andere Modelle dieser Baureihe benutzen eine hybride Grafiklösung, mit einer integrierten und einer dedizierten Grafikkarte. Was den N10E aber tatsächlich von anderen Netbooks abhebt und ihn in die Nähe von größeren Notebooks bringt, ist die Anschlussaustattung, eine große und schnelle Festplatte und Markenlautsprecher. Wenn man die Eigenschaften des Subnotebooks in Relation zum Preis bewerten, schaut es auf den ersten Blick schlecht aus für das Asus N10E, da er zu den teureren Netbooks gehört. Anderseits überzeugen die Qualität des Asus Mininotebooks und auch seine Abmessungen, aber nur verglichen mit regulären Notebooks, denn Netbooks sind teils deutlich kleiner und leichter. Selbst der relativ schwere (für ein Netbook) Asus Eee PC 1000H wiegt 150 Gramm weniger als der N10E. Immerhin nutzte Asus den zusätzlichen Platz für ein großes Keyboard, welches funktional ist und zügiges Tippen ermöglicht. Damit gelang es Asus eine Schwäche von vielen kleinen Netbooks zu beseitigen.

Asus N10e im Test: Der Netbook-Notebook-Spagat

Lohnt sich der Aufpreis von hundert Euro für das Asus N10e gegenüber dem "normalen" Netbook-Preis? Die klare Antwort lautet: nein. Den Hauptgrund liefert das Produktportfolio von Asus selbst. Der EeePC 1000H ist dem N10 in Sachen Mobilität eindeutig überlegen. Das N10 kann mit einer minimal besseren Bedienbarkeit aufwarten und wirkt eine Spur edler, wenngleich Plastik immer auch Plastik bleibt und sich auch so anfühlt. Im Grunde müsste das Netbook somit günstiger als der 1000H sein und nicht noch ein Aufpreis von 100 Euro bezahlt werden. Das N10e ist ein sehr gutes Gerät, allerdings ist die Konkurrenz aus dem eigenen Lager teils besser und vor allem deutlich preiswerter.

Asus nimmt ein 11-Zoll Chassis und steckt ein 10.2-Zoll Panel nebst einer Full-Size-Tastatur hinein. Fertig ist eine N10-Serie für zirka 500 Euro. Das Netbook konnte die Redaktion durch sehr gute Leistung (232 PassMark Punkte) und eine gute Laufzeit (286 Minuten BatteryEater) überzeugen. Auch die Helligkeit der Anzeige, die Kontraste und die technische Ausstattung (ExpressCard, WLAN DraftN, Bluetooth) müssen sich nicht vor der Konkurrenz verstecken.

It feels like not so long ago that ASUS was touting the release of their Eee range of super-compact netbooks. As computer technology is ever-shrinking, and laptops of more regular dimensions are getting faster and faster (albeit, in the same sized-case), the netbook decided that it would go the opposite way and fit less processing power into a smaller casing. For a bare, nuts and bolts mobile computer setup, the ASUS N10E netbook is a great, user-friendly choice.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. ist ein großer taiwanesischer Hersteller von Computer-Hardware mit Sitz in Taipeh, gegründet 1989. Unter dem Markennamen Asus fertigt das Unternehmen eine breite Palette von Produkten, darunter Laptops, Desktops, Motherboards, Grafikkarten, Monitore, Smartphones und Netzwerkgeräte, Komplettsysteme und PC-Bauteile für Endkunden.

Unter dem Markennamen ROG (Republic of Gamers) stellt ASUS Gaming-Laptops her, die bei Spielern für ihre leistungsstarken Spezifikationen, dedizierten Grafikkarten, Displays mit hoher Bildwiederholrate und fortschrittlichen Kühlsystemen bekannt sind.

Über das Gaming hinaus werden eine breite Palette von Notebooks für unterschiedliche Anforderungen und Budgets geboten: von ultraschlanken und leichten Ultrabooks bis hin zu vielseitigen 2-in-1-Convertibles und budgetfreundlichen Optionen. 2023 hatte Asus einen Weltmarktanteil von 7% am PC-Markts.

Die Kundenzufriedenheit mit ASUS-Notebooks betrifft Leistung, die Funktionen und das gute Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis der ASUS-Notebooks. Wie bei jeder Marke gibt es jedoch gelegentlich Berichte über Probleme wie Überhitzung, Treiberkompatibilität oder Probleme mit der Verarbeitungsqualität.

3D Spiele sind auf diesen Vertretern nur in Ausnahmen spielbar, grundsätzlich sind die Grafiklösungen hierfür jedoch nicht geeignet. Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem möglich sein.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Integrierter (onboard) Grafikchip auf Mobile Intel 945GM/C/Z/ME/ML Chipsätzen und Nachfolger des GMA 900. Kein Hardware T&L (für manche Spiele benötigt). Für Spiele kaum geeignet.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS: Durch jediglich 8 Unified Shader, unterhalb der 9300M G angesiedelt. Durch die hohe Chiptaktung zeigt die Karte jedoch fast die selbe Performance. Unterstützt Hybrid-SLI mit HybridPower und GeForceBoost.

Intel Atom: Die Intel Atom Serie besteht aus 64-Bit Mikroprozessoren für günstige und stromsparende Notebooks, MIDs oder UMPC. Besonderheit der Architektur, ist das die Befehle nicht wie derzeit üblich (z. B. Intel Core Architekture oder AMD Turion) "out of Order"  sondern  "in  Order"  ausgeführt  werden. Dadurch verliert man zwar einiges an Performance, jedoch spart dies Transistoren und daher Kosten und dadurch auch etwas Strom.

N270: Stromsparende und billige CPU mit schwacher Leistung und geringem Stromverbrauch. Durch die in-order Ausführung der Befehle langsamer als gleichgetaktete Pentium M / Core Solo / Celeron M.

76%: Weltbewegend ist diese Bewertung nicht. Diese Bewertung muss man eigentlich als unterdurchschnittlich ansehen, denn es gibt etwa ebenso mehr Geräte mit schlechtere Beurteilungen als Besseren. Eine Kaufempfehlung kann man nur mit viel Wohlwollen darin sehen, es sei denn es handelt sich um Websites, die generell streng urteilen.
