Apple geht mit der Einführung der Intel-Architektur in ihre Produktreihe völlig neue und von vielen Anwendern lang ersehnte Wege. Dadurch erschließt sich letztendlich die Möglichkeit, auch die populären x86 kompatiblen Betriebs-systeme wie etwa Linux oder Windows zu betreiben. Das für Windows benötigte Bootcamp wird zur Zeit noch als Public Beta vertrieben und ist mit 186 MB ein recht großer Download. Das vorinstallierte Mac OS X aber ist dank seiner einfach zu bedienenden Oberfläche und den vielen fast konfigurationsfreien und sofort einsatzbereiten Diensten ein klares Vorbild. Eingefleischte Mac OS Benutzer werden sich sofort zurecht finden, Windows und Linux User benötigen anfangs sicher etwas Zeit, um alle Schmankerl des überzeugenden Betriebssystems routiniert genießen zu können.

Ich habe mir das MacBook in weiss mit 2,0 Ghz Intel Prozessor geholt, da ich mit meinem vorherigen iBook nicht mehr ganz zufrieden war. Obwohl viele Kritiken das MacBook zerrissen, habe ich es mir gekauft. Wer switchen will (von Win zu Mac) oder einen Laptop für den nicht professionellen Bereich braucht, ist vom Preis/Leistungsverhältnis, sowie von der Bedienbarkeit beim MacBook gut aufgehoben. Da ich mein MB recht früh gekauft habe, sind die von mir beschriebenen Minuspunkte hoffentlich eine Kinderkrankheit und bald behoben.

Das MacBook ist sehr schön designed, speziell die Tastatur finde ich wesentlich angenehmer als noch bei den iBooks. Toll ist auch der magnetische Anschluss für das Netzteil - endlich keine Gefahr mehr, wenn man über das Kabel stolpert (soll ja vorkommen). Und mit Boot Camp kann man auch problemlos Windows XP installieren (wenn man es denn überhaupt noch braucht). Der einzige wirkliche Schwachpunkt ist die Wärmeentwicklung des MacBooks. Es wird ziemlich schnell ziemlich heiss. Weshalb es von Apple auch Notebook und nicht Laptop genannt wird (Lap = Schoss... und auf diese legt man es besser nicht allzu lange, sonst wirds unangenehm).

Ich hab das gute Stück jetzt seit wenigen Tagen und bin wie auch schon von meinen vormaligen Powerbooks schlichtweg begeistert! Design in Vollendung, OS 10.4 ist auch das beste, was es an Betriebssystem je gab und mein MacBook ist einfach wahnsinnig schnell. Hab den Arbeitsspeicher auf 1 GB aufgestockt, was ich jedem nur empfehlen kann. Apple ist damit endlich bei einem erstklassigen Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis angekommen. Bis jetzt hatte ich immer das Gefühl, ich bezahle jedesmal ein paar huntert zu viel für Design und Name. Das ist mit den neuen MacBooks definitiv vorbei.

Das ist nun mein drittes Power- bzw. Macbook und Apple hat auch hier mal wieder eine wahnsinns Kiste geliefert. Natürlich freute sich mein Geldbeutel schon sehr, dass das Preisleistungsverhältnis noch besser geworden ist, war ich doch was Intel angeht etwas skeptisch. Zwar ist das Display etwas kleiner als bei meinem alten Powerbook, dafür ist es sehr hell und von unglaublicher Qualität. Schnell ist das Teil natürlich auch.

Das günstige Macbook will elegantes Design erschwinglich machen. Das hochwertig verarbeitete Macbook kommt dank Core Duo T2500 (2 GHz) richtig auf Touren – auch unter Windows XP Home. Als Spielemaschine eignet sich das kleine Schwarze aber nicht – die im Chipsatz integrierte 3D-Grafik ist dafür zu schwach. Das hochwertig verarbeitete Macbook hat vergleichbaren Windows-Notebooks die edle Optik und das hervorragendes Display voraus. Ansonsten bietet es nur Mittelmaß.

Habe das MacBook nun seit 10 Tagen und bin mal wieder sehr beeindruckt von einem Apple-Produkt. Im Vergleich mit meinem iBook G4 14" hat sich nahezu jedes Detail verbessert! Das Display ist heller, schärfer und hat einen größeren Anzeigebereich. Das MacBook ist flacher und durch den magnetischen Verschluß noch praktischer. Über den Intel Core Duo muß man nichts sagen....Das schnellste, was es bisher in einem Notebook gab. Und daher kein Vergleich zum iBook G4, welches aber alles andere als lahm ist! Die neue Tastertur ist nun viel besser sauber zu halten und hat einen klasse Druckpunkt. Die Akkulaufzeit ist mit 3 - 4 Stunden auch mehr als befriedigend! Alles in Allem ein hevorragendes Notebook, welches kompakt, schnell und wunderschön ist!

Bei seinen Consumer-Notebooks setzt Apple auf die neuen Hochglanz-Displays und bewährte Kunststoffgehäuse-gegen deftigen Aufpreis auch in Schwarz. Bis auf die sehr winkelbahängigen Displays und das leise Wandlerfiepen hinterließen die MacBooks einen überwiegend positiven Eindruck. Wegen der Chipsatzgrafik sind sie nicht für Ballerspiele geeignet, arbeiten ansonsten aber wirklich flott mit nativer Software unter Mac OS wie auch Windows. Der Power-PC-Code noch nicht portierter Software muss emuliert werden und wird deshalb deutlich langsamer ausgeführt.

Die Nachfolger der Apple-Einsteiger-Notebooks der iBook-Serie heißen Macbook und kommen in drei Varianten: der Einsteigerversion für 1080 Euro im weißen Gehäuse und den 200 bzw. 400 Euro teureren Spitzenmodellen in Weiß und Schwarz. Im Test ist das schwarze Topmodell, das sich außer durch die Farbe ledigliech durch eine 20 GByte größere Festplatte - 80 anstatt 60 GByte - vom weißen Bruder unterscheidet. Das Display ist sehr hell, allerdings ist der Blickwinkel nur durchschnittlich.

Die Gerüchteköche hatten das richtige Gericht auf dem Plan. Nur die Zutaten und Zeitangaben waren nicht ganz zutreffend. Mit Verspätung stellte Apple Mitte mai die MacBooks vor. Dank der im Vergleich zum alten iBook deutlich kompakteren Bauweise ist das MacBook ein angenehmer Reisebegleiter, der auch auf längeren Strecken nicht schlappmacht.

Der günstige Einstieg in die Apple Welt kann als abgerundetes Gesamtkonzept überzeugen. Das Design ist sowohl technisch, als auch optisch einwandfrei umgesetzt und es macht einfach Spass den Kleinen zu bedienen. Einzig die wenigen USB Anschlüsse und das spieglende Display können bemängelt werden. Die Leistung ist dank der guten Komponenten sehr gut und erreicht ähnliche Werte wie das IBM/Lenovo T60. Spiele sind natürlich (dank der integrierten Grafik) nicht wirklich das Einsatzfeld des MacBooks.

Also ich kann das Gerät zu 100% empfehlen, sogar Rosetta-Anwendungen laufen deutlich schneller als bei meinen Ibook G4 1,33 GHZ 1,5 GB RAM. Qualitätsmäßig merkt man den Produktionsunterschied von ca. 5 Jahren eindeutig. Das Macbook greift sich, rein subjektiv, an, als ob es ein Alu-Powerbook mit weißer Plastikschicht wäre. In my MacBook review about two months ago, my final recommendation was a bit open-ended. My first technical support experience with Apple was very positive. My AC adapter broke and the folks at the Apple Store were creative in finding an adequate solution before I left for a vacation. However, my second experience didn’t go so well. Around July 6th, 2006, my MacBook started acting up. It would randomly shut down and then I couldn’t turn it back on for a period of time. This condition only got worse with time, going from one or two shutdowns per day in early July to being completely unusable by the end of July.

After months of contemplating I finally gave into temptation and bit the Apple! For me its goodbye Windows and Hello Mac and am I glad I made the move! So do I recommend the MacBook? Yes I do but please think what you want the MacBook for. For its price the MacBook holds up against any high-end notebook and once you use this machine going back to Windows is tough! However do check the serial number before buying a MacBook and make sure they are made after week 34.

I decided to put it to the test with myself in the role of the “old dog”. Just how would an inveterate Windows user, such as myself, fare when confronted by an Apple MacBook. After all with the close link up now existing between Apple and Intel, plus the recent arrival of Apple's bootcamp software that can create a dual-boot Mac/Windows system, it is perhaps the propitious time to check out how the other half lives in the world according to Steve Jobs.

Strengths: Using BootCamp (+ Input Remapper) it turns into a PC!! Great price. Clear display. Weaknesses: Without an accessory sold apart, you can't use external monitor. Relatively chep design of keyboard and palm rest area. Relatively heavy (not so much, but not light); Summary: I have hesitated before deciding to buy it because lots of people had commented about the heat under the left wrist. Because my HP laptop died just after 1 year warranty for the enormous heat from the CPU, I worried about that.

With its new MacBook, Apple has filled out its Intel-based portable line with an entry-level model. But this laptop packs so many clever, practical features into its case that it doesn't feel like a compromise. The MacBook's unusual in-between size actually makes a lot of sense. The system is petite enough to be travel-friendly, yet it packs a 13.3in widescreen display with room for everything from letterboxed movies to spreadsheets. The screen is Apple's first with a glossy surface, and it's a definite plus for film watching. We weren't overly distracted by the occasional reflections. Niggles over Boot Camp aside, the MacBook is a terrific piece of hardware. It's not particularly expensive, and it gives you a healthy dose of everything that's great about Macs. The matte-black MacBook here comes at a premium – it’s RM700 more than a similarly specified white-coloured model (which is identical apart from a slightly smaller 60GB hard disk). And if you’re not too fussy about processor speeds and don’t need DVD writing capabilities, there’s the more affordable 1.83GHz model with a DVD/CD-RW combo drive for just RM4,399. For all intents and purposes, the MacBook is a cracking notebook. As long as you’re not planning to use it for playing games, it’s brilliant. Pros: Speedy processor; good specifications; looks and feels really nice. Cons: Comes with only 512MB RAM; graphics chip not great for games.

We never thought we'd say it, but there's never been a better time to consider buying a Mac. With the release of the Boot Camp Beta, Apple's Intel-based hardware can now uniquely run both OS X and Windows. You'll need to have a full copy of the latter to hand, but we had our MacBook out of the box and running a dual-boot system in a little under 90 minutes. The MacBook is the Intel-based successor to the iBook. While this had 12 and 14in variants, the MacBook is available with a 13.3in widescreen only. The single-size configuration is partly to ensure a decent distinction between it and the MacBook Pro, but at 325 x 229 x 28mm (around the footprint of an A4 sheet of paper) it's also an excellent size to carry around with you. Well built and beautifully designed, but Windows users should still think twice

With two exceptions, Apple has always made excellent portable computers. Ignoring the Apple Portable (over 10kg) and the 5300 (some caught fire), Apple’s laptops have been examples of how to design and build a notebook computer. With the switch to Intel Core Duo processors, it’s now possible to run Windows on these computers as well as the Mac operating system - albeit with the experimental Apple Boot Camp software. The MacBook replaces the iBook, Apple’s line of relatively cheap notebook computers aimed at consumers and, and the Apple PowerBook, which catered to professional users who value portability over power.

I've owned and used many Apple computers, both PowerPC and Intel-based. I am a terribly finicky user and it takes a lot to impress me. It is even harder to get me to dote over a product like a proud parent, but I can say without a doubt that the MacBook is absolutely my favorite laptop ever. The MacBook is ideal in so many ways. It is light, slim, fast and capable of so much computing power that I find myself NOT wondering when I should trade up. The physical design is impressive and ergonomically wonderful. The screen is beautiful and delivers sharp, vibrant and life-like images. The keyboard is a pleasure to use. The internal architecture, except for GPU, is nearly identical to the MacBook Pro, which means that it is as fast a computer as the much more expensive Pro variant.

The Macbook angered a lot of people, but I think it just happened to anger the most vocal of Apple fans. I feel this laptop is going to be huge and one of Apples biggest sellers, it doesn't "Complete the family" like Apple says, there's still room for a small form factor Pro laptop and the Macbook isn't it. For the rest of us though I think it's fantastic value for money. I have a few gripes about the laptop with the first being the most obvious: the GPU. Yes the majority of users aren't going to notice but it stinks of cheap for the sake of it by Apple. I imagine their margins could've allowed for a X1300, heck even something as low as a X300 would've sufficed, it's still better then what we have now. From what I've read the GMA950 is an extra $4 over the regular 945 chipset, with prices like that it's not hard to understand why Apple went down this route. All being said I'm happy, very happy with the Macbook.

A lot of people compare this to the Sony Vaio SZ because they are both similarly priced and have almost the same specs. However, the Vaio SZ has a much more superior and dedicated videocard, Dual Layer burning, an expansion slot, and a memory card reader which are all missing on the MacBook. Other issues on the MacBook such as the heat and cheap feel of the keyboard keep this from being the perfect notebook. Another thing to keep in mind is that the white version of this MacBook at the exact same specs costs $150 less so you have to ask yourself if the color is worth it. Other than the issues stated above, the MacBook is definitely superior to any iBook and the 12" Powerbook thanks to the widescreen glossy display, integrated iSight, larger trackpad, and the ability to switch into Windows to run it natively.

Billed as a replacement to both the iBook and the 12-inch PowerBook, the 13.3-inch MacBook offers a great compromise between size and portability for a reasonable price (the baseline white model costs $1,099). Even better, that low cost gets you a number of features also found on the more expensive MacBook Pro--notably, Core Duo processors, digital audio in/out, and the groovy MagSafe power adapter. Its performance doesn't match that of the MacBook Pro, which is outfitted with discrete graphics and more memory, but the MacBook's combination of design, features, and software significantly narrows the value gap between Apple laptops and the PC competition.

Mac fans have been waiting a long time for this. The new Macbook is the long-overdue replacement for Apple's aging iBook laptops. We posted our first impressions of the Macbook last week. Now we've had longer to play with it, we can bring you our full review. The iBooks were saddled for several years with the aging IBM G4 processor, so there's been no shortage of demand amongst Mac users for a more powerful replacement. The recently released Macbook Pro was the first Apple laptop to make the switch to Intel's Core Duo processor, but with prices starting at £1,400 the Macbook Pro is very much a top-of-the-range option.

The MacBook is a beautiful piece of hardware, the design and look is fantastic and I really like the keyboard. This is all of course dragged down by the heat and crashing issues I've had so far. However, we'll assume that my early production system is an exception and not the rule and Apple will be able to replace it or figure out why my MacBook becomes a bit of a coffee warmer. It's a shame that I can't recommend buying this right now due to the heat issues since that trumps all the other great things about this machine, if others could reply or chime in on their experience with this notebook and say they don't have this problem, I would be hugely relieved and could then recommend. If others are having these same heat issues, well, that's a big concern then.

The Apple portable web site proudly announces that the "family is finally complete." What began with an announcement from Steve Jobs at the MacWorld conference in January has come full circle with the release of the MacBook this week. Every Apple laptop is Intel powered and moving in what I would consider is the right direction. The laptop line is finally better delineated by pro and consumer features, and the prices have been fixed at points that better reflect the minute differences in the models. While some people might point out that the black MacBook shell is unnecessarily marked-up, I think that it's a smart move on Apple's part to try and control their stock levels and take advantage of consumer demand.

Like the MacBook Pro the MacBook is very good, however for every good point we’ve found a bad point that equals it out. We like the black, but it smudges easily. We like the white, but are sure that it will just become dirty like the previous iBooks did a couple of months in. Then there is the screen. We certainly like it and the new brightness over previous PowerBook models however the screen is reflective in sunlight more than we would have liked. The list goes on. We like the keyboard, but are worried about the gaps between the keys catching biscuits crumbs. Like the performance, but not when it comes to doing anything heavy duty like games.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Integrierter (onboard) Grafikchip auf Mobile Intel 945GM/C/Z/ME/ML Chipsätzen und Nachfolger des GMA 900. Kein Hardware T&L (für manche Spiele benötigt). Für Spiele kaum geeignet.

3D Spiele sind auf diesen Vertretern nur in Ausnahmen spielbar, grundsätzlich sind die Grafiklösungen hierfür jedoch nicht geeignet. Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem möglich sein.

Intel Core Duo: Doppelkernprozessor mit einem sehr guten Leistungs- zu Stromverbrauchsverhältnis. Die maximale Leistungsaufnahme von 31 Watt ist nur 4 Watt mehr als beim Pentium M (Vorgänger). Beide Kerne werden automatisch und unabhängig von einander per Speedstep bis auf 1 GHz abgesenkt. Außerdem unterstützt er nun auch SSE3 Befehle.

Nach ersten Benchmarks absolviert der Core Duo alle Tests mindestens genauso schnell wie ein gleichgetakteter Pentium M. Bei Anwendungen die für Multiprozessoren geplant wurden, kann die Performance fast doppelt so schnell ausfallen als beim Pentium M (z.B. CineBench um 86% schneller)
