In its first attempt, Redmi fails to recreate the magic it did with its first smartphone. The specifications fail to make up for the caveats, mainly for that terrible display. However, it is a great offering if one can overlook the predicaments. Xiaomi and Redmi products have been pioneers in the industry, providing the best value for money, but that isn’t the case with RedmiBook 15 Pro. The RedmiBook 15 Pro feels more like an attempt to make consumers want to buy Xiaomi’s other high-end offerings. Want an honest opinion? Don’t buy this one; wait for something better. Until then, it might be better to avoid RedmiBook 15 Pro and find a better laptop for your money, something like Mi Notebook Pro.

Xiaomi has gone decidedly low-end with the RedmiBook 15 Pro in nearly every department other than CPU power. What this means is you get a very capable workhorse for productivity, and if you want it primarily for office or school work, you'll have little trouble. The large 15-inch screen and non-cramped keyboard layout also help make this laptop appealing for such use cases. Overall, the RedmiBook 15 Pro should find an audience for itself, but it isn't a home run. I'd always suggest trying a laptop at a retail location rather than buying online based solely on specifications, which will help you see whether things like display quality and keyboard layout work for you or not.

The Surface Book is considered one of Microsoft’s high-end flagship products, which means that the company could be looking to release the Surface Book 4 sometime at the end of the month, and possibly at the hardware launch event mentioned earlier. One of the best features of the Surface Book devices is the touchscreens that are detachable, but a report by Windows Central this year based on Microsoft’s patent filing suggest that the device would come with a hinge mechanism that would allow the screen to work in a completely flat position, or move up and down at different angles, thanks to a stand-like mechanism. The device is expected to pack in capable specs, given that the requirements to run Windows 11 have increased, while this is Microsoft’s flagship product, after all. We will know more about the upcoming Surface Book 4 if Microsoft launches the device at its September 22 event.

Performance, display and battery are three of the key specs that most people look at while buying a laptop. And here, RedmiBook Pro may impress you on the performance, be fine on battery and leave you asking for more on the display part. At Rs 49,999, its closest competition is the Mi Notebook series, which frankly speaking is more value for money. Xiaomi has managed to do a good job by offering better performance, good battery and decent display features than competitors in these laptops. The same, however, can not be said for RedmiBook Pro.

The RedmiBook 15 Pro retails for Rs 49,999 and for the price, offers a robust design and oodles of performance. That said, Redmi has made some omissions to bring the cost of the machine down. The laptop’s display, for one, is just not up to the mark and the lack of other niceties like a backlit keyboard or a USB Type-C port will surely make prospective buyers second-guess their decision. Now, if all you need is a workhorse to plow through the day, then the RedmiBook 15 Pro will not disappoint you, as it can surely get work done fast.

The RedmiBook 15 Pro gets three or four things right. It also messes up equal number of aspects. The laptop comes with a large display, offers reliable performance, has plenty of connectivity options and delivers fast charging. It does not feel solid though, build quality is mediocre and display quality is underwhelming as well. On top of it, the battery life could have been better too. Also, the RedmiBook 15 Pro is positioned in a price category where you have multiple options like Realme Slim Book and HP 15s. We can only hope that Xiaomi builds on this first-generation device and gives us more promising RedmiBook laptops in the future.

The RedmiBook 15 Pro is, all things considered, a disappointment. It hides behind small mercies, hoping that the shiny spec sheet on paper will make up for the terrible display, or omission of crucial features. The processor numbers and boot time figures are no match for the discomfort you get when you actually open the laptop and look at the terrible screen. Will the RedmiBook 15 Pro get your work done? Yes. Will the battery get you through a day? Yes. Should you buy it? Not when there are far better options available. You can definitely get better laptops at this price, and it seems highly possible that Redmi can also make better laptops at this price. Until then, consider spending your money elsewhere.

The RedmiBook 15 Pro laptop is priced at Rs 49,999 in India, a price tag with which it's cutting it really close to last year's Mi Notebook 14 Horizon. Deciding whether to buy the RedmiBook 15 Pro comes down to understanding what the big drawbacks are. In this case, the two major caveats we are looking at are the screen quality and the lack of backlighting on the keyboard, both of which, in my opinion, are huge corners to cut.

The RedmiBook Pro does not feel like a winner so far, with potentially more misses than hits. In a segment with many, many choices, simply offering a slightly lower price won’t cut it. However, these are just our first impressions after having spent a short while with the RedmiBook Pro. Our full review will be out very soon and will include our recommendation about whether you should buy one, in addition to more detailed testing. Stay tuned.

The RedmiBook 15 Pro seems like it could be a competent workhorse. We don't yet have the answers to the questions we started out with, but that's what the full review is for. It will be interesting to put this laptop to use and see how it works for entertainment, office work, and communications. We will of course also run a barrage of tests to check its performance, battery life, display and sound quality, portability, construction quality, and much more, so do stay tuned to Gadgets 360.
