In the DXOMARK Camera tests, the Xiaomi 15 delivered a well-rounded camera performance, making it a solid choice for both photography and videography enthusiasts. The Xiaomi 15 comes with a triple-camera system, covering focal lengths from ultra-wide to medium range tele, but has to make do without the 15 Pro model’s dedicated long tele camera module. In our photo tests, the Xiaomi 15’s camera setup achieved excellent results, delivering a wide dynamic range, low noise levels, and vibrant colors. However, some areas for improvement remained. Our testers observed noticeable color casts in low light conditions, and the limited depth of field made it difficult to maintain all subjects in group shots sharply focused.

The Xiaomi 15 is one of the best compact flagship smartphones of 2024. It delivers top-tier performance, fantastic cameras, and ultra-fast charging, all in a one-hand-friendly form factor. Xiaomi has finally refined the experience with HyperOS, making the software much smoother and less bloated. That said, software update commitments remain a concern, and the phone still gets warm under load. Also, the lack of a charger in the box is a letdown, given that Xiaomi’s 90W HyperCharge is one of its standout features. But for those who want a premium compact Android flagship, the Xiaomi 15 is an excellent choice—especially for users tired of massive 6.7-inch devices.

The battery capacity on the Xiaomi 15 has been bumped up to 5,240mAh from 4,610mAh for the Xiaomi 14. But it's still the same 90W fast wired charging, and 50W wireless charging like the previous version. For wireless charging, that's a bit slower than the Ultra (80W). Differentiation or cost-cutting? You decide. In any case, battery life was 10hr 32min in PCMark's test, which is a hour longer than the Xiaomi 14. I typically end up with around 40 to 50% battery life at the end of the day, though I still charge it overnight. Prices for the Xiaomi 15 start from S$1,099 (12GB + 256GB) and S$1,199 (12GB + 512GB). That's S$100 more for the base model compared with the Xiaomi 14 (12GB + 256GB), though it's unchanged at S$1,199 for the 512GB version. It's still very competitive, seeing as Honor's flagship phone, which does have slightly better cameras is S$1,399, and Samsung's Galaxy S25 series starts from S$1,288. A solid phone priced to compete. What more can you ask? Get it now from Shopee and Lazada.

The Xiaomi 15 is a great flagship overall, delivering on performance, battery endurance, display quality, and, of course, excellent cameras. From my experience, the main drawback is HyperOS. While it’s cleaner than before, its quirks remain. Nonetheless, I would still recommend considering the Xiaomi 15 if you’re looking for a new flagship this year, especially if you prefer a pocketable device that delivers on all flagship expectations.

The Xiaomi 15 is a well-rounded flagship that offers strong performance, an excellent display, and solid battery life. Its compact design makes it a great choice for those who prefer smaller phones without sacrificing high-end features. While the camera system delivers good results, it doesn’t quite match the Ultra model or some competing flagships. The software experience is familiar but lacks the long-term update support provided by brands like Google and Samsung. Ultimately, the Xiaomi 15 is a compelling option for users who want a powerful yet compact smartphone.

At first glance, the Xiaomi 15 doesn't look like a massive upgrade from the 14, but delve deeper and you'll find profound improvements from its already sensational predecessor. The camera is as great as ever, with even the base 15 capable of up to 8K video capture, alongside the best portrait/landscape/night/macro photo combo on the market. It's also possibly the most powerful smartphone ever, with a 45-50% jump in CPU performance from the 14 leaving Samsung and other Android rivals scrambling to catch up. Xiaomi is no longer an upstart; it's a true leader.

Now, the fun part comes - cameras! It has a four-camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 200-megapixel telephoto sensor, a 50-megapixel floating telephoto sensor, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. Of course, the 15 Ultra has a regular suite of Leica styles that enhance the overall experience. This one also gets the 1-inch sensor and f/1.63 aperture. There's a 32-megapixel selfie camera. In my limited time with the device, the 15 Ultra looks like a fantastic successor to the 14 Ultra in terms of camera upgrades. But I will be able to break it down more in my review. It also runs on HyperOS 2, based on Android 15. It has a suite of AI features onboard, which I will test and detail in my review, so stay tuned.

On one hand the Xiaomi 15 is an iterative device. It looks like the Xiaomi 14 and offers much the same compact flagship phone experience. The day-to-day performance of this phone is great, there’s loads of power (even if it gets a little hot), the battery and charging is excellent and the display is great. There’s a lot of camera to explore in the Xiaomi 15 with three good lenses, but it’s not best in class across all these lenses and I’d take the Pixel 9 Pro for better telephoto performance. But the Xiaomi 15 is also curiously expensive: it’s a little more than an iPhone 16, a little more than a Samsung Galaxy S25 and more expensive than the Pixel 9. That might be a hard sell for some people.

Overall, the Xiaomi 15 is a very impressive phone, building on the success of its predecessor. There may not be a lot of changes, but the improvements do help a lot. I especially like the new bigger battery, which now makes it capable of lasting over a day without recharging. The new chipset helps with performance, whether for productivity or for playing games. While not everyone will use the AI features, it’s a nice thing to have as well. However, if you’re already using a flagship phone from 2024 or a Xiaomi 14, I don’t see the point in upgrading to the Xiaomi 15 just yet. A bigger battery and a newer chipset don’t justify upgrading.

This time last year, I was saying that the Xiaomi 14 was neck and neck with the Samsung Galaxy S24. While the Xiaomi 15 is roughly as good as its predecessor, the relative sparsity of hardware upgrades paired with the price bump means that it’s just not as competitive now. The Xiaomi 15 has its perks – the display is bright, sharp and colour-accurate, performance is up there with the best and the cameras are just as good as last year – but the simple fact is that the Samsung Galaxy S25 is the superior compact flagship. The build is tighter and lighter, software support is more extensive, the OS is more user-friendly and battery life is better, all for a lower starting price.

Back at the start of February, we reported on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, the top-tier version of the new 15 family. Meanwhile, those looking for a slightly more affordable flagship option should read on because the Xiaomi 15 might be what they are after. Information about the Xiaomi 15 initially dropped back before October 2024, whilst domestic reviewers and customers already had videos online handling this new model in October. The global launch event was set for the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today, so hopefully, you caught the livestream earlier and then rushed to Neowin to check out my review. I will be covering my thoughts on the UK release, but as there is no longer any obvious regional difference for the hardware, everything mentioned here would apply to the rest of the global release, too.

Despite not having the flashy specifications or upgrades of its Ultra sibling, it is easier to recommend buying the Xiaomi 15 due to its flagship performance at a lower price. The phone makes sensible compromises to reach the competitive €999 (around $1,040). Against similarly priced phones such as the Galaxy S25 and iPhone 16, the only things that take points away from the Xiaomi 15 are the shorter software support policy and the amount of bloatware and ads. Long-time Xiaomi customers are probably used to them by now, and there are always methods to turn most of them off. For owners of the Xiaomi 14, on the other hand, the differences are mostly related to the processor and longer software support, so for them, we recommend waiting for a more substantial change. The Xiaomi 15 even got a shorter focal length on the telephoto camera (i.e. "less zoom"), without the big sensor upgrade the Ultra model got.

The Xiaomi 15 is an excellent compact flagship. It has a gorgeous OLED screen that's bright, vivid, and can dynamically switch between 1 and 120Hz. The silicon-carbon battery inside comes with an impressive capacity given the compact footprint of the device, and the 90W charging support really helps to fill up that ample battery fast. Add the Snapdragon 8 Elite to the mix, and you end up with a very robust and capable phone. Now for the downsides. The Xiaomi 15 starts at €999, and that's not exactly cheap. We're talking iPhone 16 Pro kind of money. Then there's the design—the phone looks too similar to its predecessor, and more importantly, the hardware inside is almost identical to the last model. We have a new chip, a bigger battery, and a new sensor for the telephoto camera. And that's pretty much it.

There’s a lot of great options available in the “mid-range” sector of the smartphone market, proving you don’t necessarily need to fork out huge sums of cash to get hold of devices which can take great pictures. The Xiaomi 15 here is a great case in point. Yes, it’s not on a par with the much more expensive Xiaomi 15 Ultra, but for most people, it’s likely to be more than good enough, producing excellent results across a range of situations. Personally, I also like the fact that it fits more neatly in my hand and my pocket – so if I had to choose between the two models, all things considered, I might in the end plump for this one and save the cash for something else. At its price point, it competes well with the likes of the Samsungs and iPhones of this world, offering generally better shooting specifications at a similar price.

The Xiaomi 15 is more of an iterative upgrade rather than a colossal jump forward. The notably larger battery is probably the most important change in our minds. The chipset swap to the new Snapdragon 8 Elite is nice and all, but just like last year, the Xiaomi 15 still struggles to keep it cool with prolonged loads. The camera changes are pretty minor. Last year, we did wish for autofocus on the ultrawide, but that didn't come to pass. Even so, this is one of the best and most capable camera setups you can currently get in a relatively compact phone. Honestly, apart from the lackluster cooling performance, there are very few, if any, glaring issues we can point out with the Xiaomi 15.

No matter how you slice it, the Xiaomi 15 is a great smartphone. It is one of the best compact devices that we’ve ever used. Just because it’s more compact than most other high-end offerings out there doesn’t mean it’s not on their level. This smartphone has a great build quality, display, performance, and so on. It also offers good battery life and very, very fast charging, plus more. Even its camera performance is excellent overall, so… there are very few complaints that can be made here. This is definitely a device you should be considering if you’re in the market for a compact, high-end smartphone.

Alright with this, I think I have covered most parts of my experience with the Xiaomi 15 and I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to see compact phones being such all round packages. The Xiaomi 15 has everything you would expect from a good phone, a nice display, handy, comfortable design, good battery life, fast charging, reliable performance, everything. My only gripe with this phone is, I was expecting the cameras to be better, they are good, but I think I just had higher expectations. And considering all that the xiaomi 15 offers, it definitely deserves to be called the best compact flagship phone right now. The Xiaomi 15 is a powerhouse in a small package, packing with the Snapdragon 8 Elite and a bigger battery that actually lasts longer.
