We put the Vivo X90 Pro+ through our rigorous DXOMARK Selfie test suite to measure its performance in photo and video from an end-user perspective. This article breaks down how the device fared in a variety of tests and several common use cases and is intended to highlight the most important results of our testing with an extract of the captured data. With a DXOMARK Selfie score of 125, the Vivo X90 Pro+ delivered a decent performance in our front camera tests but could not keep up with the very best devices in the Ultra-Premium segment. Overall, the camera provided pleasant image and video rendering, with good exposure, pleasant colors and nice skin tones, across a large array of shooting conditions. However, the top Selfie devices in its class are capable of producing better contrast in still images and a wider dynamic range in video mode.

The Vivo X90 Pro+ provided an overall average display performance for a flagship. The highlight of the smartphone’s screen was its color performance, where it achieved a top score for its consistently good and faithful color rendering in indoor and low-light conditions. The Vivo X90 Pro+’s screen colors maintained uniformity and color fidelity for the most part. In outdoor testing under direct sunlight, the device did not reach the 1800 nits of maximum brightness advertised. But when challenged to an extremely bright environment of more than 100K lux, the device’s screen attained 1500 nits. The X90 Pro+’s display performance stumbled when watching HDR10 videos because of low brightness levels and low contrast, which erased details from the content’s dark tones. In terms of brightness and contrast management in HDR videos, the Vivo X90 Pro actually outperformed the X90 Pro+. While high brightness mode generally improved the screen’s readability, it would degrade picture rendering when viewed under sunlight.

Without beating around the bush, the Vivo is a contender for the camera flagship in 2023. Not only the features suggest that but also our photo results. There is actually no area of photography where the quartet including the 1-inch IMX989 image sensor cannot convince. The display can convince with the desired resolution, the storage is sufficient, there is a good battery capacity and the charging process is also pleasing. The storage capacity along with the fast Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 delivers plenty of performance. Now ask yourself, if you're like me and the first thing you read is the conclusion, what's the catch? It's not the price, since even the 512 GB flagship is sold for just around $1,000. I'll tell you: The Vivo X90 Pro+ is only available in China and the processor gets pretty hot under full load. The China thing is actually not a problem either, TradingShenzhen supplies the device and the German and all other system languages are on board. But there are endless Chinese applications. But there are just as many cool features to discover with Origin OS 3.0. It definitely never gets boring with this smartphone and on top of that, you get one of the best cameras on top. If you can and want to make this compromise, you will probably have a lot of fun with the Vivo X90 Pro+.

In our DXOMARK Audio tests, the Vivo X90 Pro+ delivered a decent performance, especially in the Recording category. The built-in speakers did overall well, and the microphones were capable of recording clean sound with deep and nice-sounding bass and offered great audio zoom and wind noise reduction features. In Playback, the Vivo delivered the best results for gaming, but was also a decent phone for listening to music or watching movies. It delivered overall good performances in the spatial and dynamics categories, but our testers found the tonal balance to be too mid-range centric, as well as harsh and aggressive at maximum volume. With the volume level turned to the max, distortion, as well as compression, were noticeable, too. In Recording, the device delivered a very balanced performance across all use cases. Our testers were especially impressed by the good spatial performance and the lack of unwanted audio artifacts. Only some slight distortion could sometimes be noticeable.

The Vivo X90 Pro+ represents a significant evolution over last year’s Vivo X80 Pro as it is both the first smartphone we tested to come with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, and the first Vivo to use a 1-inch sensor in the main camera module. Like previous Vivo flagships, it also features Zeiss T* optical coating on the lenses. With such impressive camera hardware, it’s no surprise the Vivo X90 Pro+ offered quite detailed still images in our testing across all light conditions. The large 1-inch sensor’s ability to collect light was also noticeable in terms of image noise, which was well under control, especially in bright light and indoors. The X90 Pro+ photos also showed good exposure management as well as a fairly accurate white balance in most situations. We noticed some drawbacks when it came to color, though, with inaccurate rendering of dark skin tones in backlit scenes, as well as some color quantization under indoor lighting and lower illumination levels. In addition to the primary camera, the Vivo X90 Pro+ features an ultra-wide-angle module with a 14mm equivalent focal length, as well as two telephoto lenses equivalent to 50mm and 90mm. Overall, the camera setup offers a x100 zoom factor (including digital zoom). Thanks to the combination of these multiple modules, zoom quality was one of the Vivo’s strong points in our testing. Detail was good from ultra-wide to long-range tele and overall the X90 Pro+ achieved the second highest score for zoom to date, just behind the Honor Magic4 Ultimate, which offers slightly better detail at long-range tele. In video mode, the Vivo X90 Pro+ performed well overall, primarily thanks to well-exposed video clips with a fairly wide dynamic range. However, the Vivo lagged behind some devices in its class in terms of detail preservation. The camera’s texture/noise compromise in video resulted in softened details, especially under indoor lighting and in low light.

The Vivo X90 Pro Plus is a brilliant deal if you prefer camera features with exceptional 5G connectivity and an astounding processor with impressive overclocking speed. Furthermore, it will also grant a good display experience with an advanced refresh rate with better colors and resolution support. Last but not least, the device is a complete solution if you are looking for something great from the Vivo flagship phone. Speaking of alternative options, you can go for the Samsung Galaxy S22 ultra for an overall decent UI, good enough camera features, and various other perks. At the same time, the Apple iPhone 14 Plus can consider an impeccable alternative option for this phone. So finally, you can choose any one of them would be a great deal.

In addition, the 80W fast charge only takes half an hour to fully recharge the blood, which can fully meet the daily needs of users for rapid blood recovery. In addition, the AMOLED screen made of 2K E6 material, infrared remote control, ultrasonic fingerprint, USB Type-C 3.2 Gen1, etc., in the Vivo X90 Pro+ is not absent, and all aspects are pulled to the top. From the perspective of the middle body, the performance of the Vivo X90 Pro+ in terms of full-focus imaging and game performance is at the ceiling level, and there are no regrets in other aspects of configuration. Although it is positioned as an “imaging flagship”, it is not an exaggeration to call it an “all-around flagship” in terms of experience. For now, it is no exaggeration to say that this Vivo X90 Pro+ is the flagship king of the first echelon of the Android camp.

The X90 Pro Plus features a main camera that uses Sony's IMX989 1-inch sensor. But that's not all -- the Periscope zoom lens got an upgrade to a 64MP lens, and the 2x telephoto lens has a much faster f/1.6 aperture. The phone is also powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, with Vivo's V2 imaging chip handling image processing.

The Vivo X90 Pro Plus is easily one of the best and most premium-looking smartphones in the market. You can easily tell this is no cheap or budget phone just by taking a glance at it. Vivo has put the focus not only on the camera this time but also on performance. The rear cameras took some of the best shots you can take on a smartphone. In addition to that, the phone is a powerhouse when it comes to performance. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 makes sure that you can do literally anything on your phone with ease. The 120Hz AMOLED display makes your day-to-day usage super smooth and vibrant. The battery life could have been better, but the 80W fast charging support makes up for it. Overall, the Vivo X90 Pro Plus is a great option for someone who wants a premium-looking phone with excellent cameras without compromising on performance.
