Wichtig für die Generation Selfie ist die ­Kamera. 23 MP sind ein Wort, wenngleich klar ist, dass hier weniger auch mehr sein kann. Sony hält aber an hohen Zahlen fest. Die Auslösezeit hat sich verbessert, aber in der maximalen Auflösung machen sich immer noch Bildrauschen und unliebsame Software-Eingriffe bemerkbar.

Um 350 bis 400 Euro wäre das Xperia X eine Überlegung wert, aber nicht um 599 Euro. Hübsch alleine reicht nicht, um den hohen UVP zu rechtfertigen. Das OnePlus 3 gibt es um 399 Euro, das Samsung S7 ist auf Preisvergleichsportalen ab 570 Euro zu finden, das LG G5 sogar schon ab 450 Euro.

Ein grundsätzlich gut gelungenes Smartphone – allerdings der Mittel- und nicht der Oberklasse: Der Prozessor dürfte jedem Normalnutzer ausreichen, die Akkulaufzeit liegt ordentlich über dem Durchschnitt, aufgrund des schonenden Ladens muss man allerdings mit langen Ladezeiten rechnen.

Im Schweizer Handel ist das Xperia X momentan für rund 649 Franken erhältlich, etwa bei Brack.ch. Huawei und LG sind günstiger, Samsung etwas teurer, HTC undApple deutlich teurer. Die Schwierigkeit bei Sony ist aber, dass halt nicht in allen Bereichen Spitzenleistungen angeboten werden. Dafür müsste man zum X Performance greifen, das 100 Franken mehr kostet.

Mit dem Xperia X hat Sony bei den Grundtugenden ganze Arbeit geleistet: Der Akku hält deutlich länger als beim Z5, das Arbeitstempo war trotz Mittelklasse-Prozessor immer noch gut. Zudem ist der Empfang besser. Bei der Kameraqualität liegt Sonys bisheriges Top-Modell Z5 aber vorn. Nur die Selfie-Kamera ist im X besser.

Dafür muss das Xperia X Kritik für die mittelmäßige Haupt-Kamera und einen fehlenden Snapdragon-820-Prozessor einstecken. Die Qualität des Displays könnte hinsichtlich der Leuchtstärke auch etwas besser sein. Insgesamt lässt sich festhalten, dass Sony bei seiner neuen X-Serie zu wenig wagt und auf bewährte Dinge setzt.

Ich bin mir nicht so sicher, wo man das Xperia X einordnen kann: Zur absoluten Spitzenklasse reicht es leider nicht. Grund dafür ist zum Beispiel die im Vergleich zu den diesjährigen Herstellern eher schwache Prozessorleistung. Sony geht anscheinend davon aus, dass seine Kunden das Smartphone eher wegen dem Design und den Multimediafähigkeiten kaufen.

And then, the image quality and camera experience is a bit below expectations. At the end of each review period it’s telling to examine my own emotions in terms of returning a handset to the relevant press office. With the HTC 10 I had to have the device prised from my enthusiastic hands, while I couldn’t wait to throw the sharp-edged, poorly-finished LG G5 back in the box and get it out of the house. The Sony Xperia X elicits… no emotion at all. If it stayed here then it would be in a drawer – it’s a premium-priced Android mid-ranger with no unique selling point whatsoever other than the Sony brand.

The Xperia resolves a bit more detail on a pixel level, which is clearly visible in the thinnest of twigs, and tiniest of leaves on the row of images below. Then again, noise is abundant even in brightly lit areas - likely left there deliberately, so noise reduction wouldn't do away with detail. The noise pattern is not that nice to look at (same as on the Xperia Z5), but you would probably never attempt to pixel peep on your photos from so close in real life.

Serie: Sony's Xperia Z5 comes in 3 major versions, known as standard, premium and compact. The material choice is a very nice glass front and a back with metal construction wrapping all around the phone. Sony has always been recognized for having one of if not the best cameras on their phones. The Xperia Z5 features the latest sensor with 23 MP, 5520 х 4140 pixels, phase detection, autofocus, and LED flash. It is capable of video recording at 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps, and 720p@120fps with HDR function available. All 3 versions come with the new fingerprint sensor, which is placed at the side of the phone where the power button is. Another great design of the phone is its stereo front facing speakers. The Xperia Z5 phones are IP68 certified, i.e. dust proof and water resistant over 1.5 meter and 30 minutes.

The compact version has a 4.6 inch 720 x 1280 pixels Triluminos display. Because of its lower price it is not as big and high-resolution than the standard model. The hardware of the Android OS, v5.1.1 (Lollipop) system includes a Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 consisting of 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and Cortex A43 Quad Core CPUs and an Adreno 430 GPU. The only difference of the compact model to the standard model is that it does not have 3 GB of RAM. However, due to its lower screen resolution it should have no problems with only 2 GB of RAM. The non-removable Lithium-Ion battery rated at 2700 mAh is smaller than the standard model's. Sony claims that it will last up to 2 days. In addition, this device comes with 32 GB of flash memory and the storage capacity can be expanded with a microSD by up to 200 GB.

Qualcomm Adreno 510: Grafikchip für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 und 652 SoC. Basiert auf die 500er Grafikarchitektur wie der schnellere Adreno 520 im Snapdragon 820.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.
