Das Sony Xperia 1 VII ist das ungewöhnlichste Android-Flaggschiff, das Sie derzeit kaufen können. Wer erweiterbaren Speicher, einen Kopfhöreranschluss und nach vorn gerichtete Lautsprecher sucht, findet außerhalb des Einsteigersegments keine Alternative. Aus diesen Gründen ist leicht nachvollziehbar, warum Sony eine treue Fangemeinde hat. Besonders viel Spaß hat mir die Nutzung kabelgebundener Kopfhörer ohne Adapter während des Tests gemacht.Für mich persönlich hat die Kamera höchste Priorität. Hier erreicht Sony nicht ganz das Niveau aktueller Flaggschiffe – zumindest nicht, ohne die Bilder in Lightroom stundenlang nachzubearbeiten. Hinzu kommt der Preis. Das Xperia 1 VII gehört zu den teuersten Smartphones ohne Faltmechanismus. Um diesen Preis zu rechtfertigen, müsste es die Konkurrenz übertreffen. Das tut es meiner Meinung nach leider nicht.

Sony bleibt eigenwillig. Das Xperia 1 VII richtet sich an Nutzer, die Anschlussvielfalt, physische Tasten, starken Sound und eine Kamera mit manuellen Eingriffsmöglichkeiten schätzen. Zu den Stärken zählen das hervorragende OLED-Display mit auf Wunsch sehr natürlicher Farbdarstellung, die flexiblen Foto- und Videowerkzeuge sowie der variable optische Tele-Zoom. Auch die Audiosparte spielt ganz oben mit: 3,5-mm-Klinke, LDAC-Support und sauber abgestimmte Stereo-Frontlautsprecher setzen Maßstäbe. Zusammen mit der kantigen Bauform samt flachem Display und dem seltenen microSD-Slot liefert Sony hier echte Alleinstellungsmerkmale. Positiv fällt zudem die verbesserte Update-Zusage auf. Das Sony Xperia 1 VII ist zweifellos ein interessantes Flaggschiff-Smartphone, das vieles richtig macht. Es punktet mit einem sehr hochwertigen OLED-Display, hervorragenden Lautsprechern, starken Akkulaufzeiten und einer innovativen Tele-Zoomkamera mit variabler Brennweite. Auch der 3,5-mm-Klinkenanschluss und der microSD-Kartensteckplatz begeistern, beides gibt es heutzutage in der Flaggschiff-Klasse schlicht nicht mehr. Und doch ist die nunmehr siebte Auflage eine echte Enttäuschung. Das liegt vor allem an den Kameras die, trotz guter Hardware, hinsichtlich der Qualität durch die Bank nicht überzeugen können. Die Farben sind ausgewaschen, der Fokus sitzt seltener als es einem lieb ist und das Bildrauschen fällt viel zu stark aus. Hinzu kommt, dass der eigentlich sehr leistungsstarke Chip sehr schnell zur Drosselung neigt.

It’s a phone that keeps hold of technology long-sinced ditched by the big name competitors – things like a physical audio port and microSD card slot – all the while keeping very much the same design year in, year out and loading the phone apps that only those with the desire and patience for pro-level video, photo and audio tools appreciate. So the latest Xperia is one for those people, but even for them, this year, it feels like there’s little need to buy this phone over last year’s model. It’s not really any better, and is still too expensive for what it offers, to the point where I’d say if you have an older Xperia model and want to upgrade this year, you’d be better off saving money and buying last year’s model.

As usual there's plenty to love here. Sony's slab is the only flagship to offer expandable storage AND a headphone jack, plus front facing speakers. The Xperia 1 VII also boasts one of the best gaming modes, while DSLR fans will love that camera app. However, there's not enough new bits in the Sony Xperia 1 VII to justify upgrading. The Snapdragon 8 Elite performance is great for gamers, but you can find this in smartphones half the price. Battery life is excellent, but again that isn't uncommon in 2025 flagships. The Sony Xperia 1 VII mostly recycles camera hardware vs the Mark 6 and the new features aren't compelling enough. Of course, creators are well catered for as usual. Plus, the display tech etc has also been lifted from last year's phone.

However, the Sony Xperia 1 VII offers very similar hardware to last year's model, including the same 5000mAh battery, a similar 6.5-inch FHD screen, and a design that's all but identical.

The main camera is plenty nice, the selfies are pretty great, and the new ultrawide is quite possibly the current top performer in its field. All that is operated from a feature-packed camera app with tons of controls and all the smarts you can think of. Perhaps it's not the best cameraphone altogether, but it could very well be the best cameraphone for a specific type of user. Which, in fact, is what the Xperia 1 VII is in its entirety, probably more so than any other phone - a very specifically tailored device that may be a tough sell to the mass audience, but its feature set can be spot-on for you. And you know who you are.

Qualcomm Adreno 830: Integrierte Grafikeinheit im Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC für Smartphones mit drei Slices mit je 1,1 GHz. Integriert 12 MB gemeinsamen Cache für die drei Slices. Laut Qualcomm um 40% schneller als die Vorgängergeneration (Adreno 750). 

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
