Large and bright, with a wonderful screen, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra wants to be so much more than a media consumption device, and nearly manages it. There's a lot to like here for creative pros, but you have to be prepared to accept the Android software available.

To get a feel of what using other large tablets is like, I borrowed a 12.9-inch iPad Pro (5th Gen) from my cousin. In terms of size and weight, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is markedly bigger than the iPad Pro. Out of the case and just carried in my hands, I often felt that it was too bulky and couldn't help feeling that I might inadvertently drop it. The weight difference between the two devices is less than 50g, but the sheer size of Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra makes it unwieldy. Ultimately, the large size of the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, its giant display makes it an excellent productivity tool and for consuming content. On the other, it also makes it cumbersome and less handy as a tablet. This is further complicated by its high asking price.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a nominal upgrade over its predecessor, but its expansive 14.6-inch display, fast Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-driven performance and functionality as a pseudo-laptop still impress. However, its high cost could make you consider getting a cheaper tablet (or laptop) instead.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra impressed me by the end of the review. The design is minimalist and uncluttered, if not a little too sober for my taste. The screen is simply sublime, and it's a real pleasure to play on this tablet. Samsung has also taken full advantage of its flagship tablet's large screen diagonal to optimize multitasking. What really won me over was Samsung's DeX mode. It is really one of the most successful attempts to date on the Android platform to transform a tablet into a genuine laptop replacement. But at $1,199 a pop for the basic model without 5G, is it really that good an investment? At that price, you can get a fairly decent laptop for office use or a "light" multimedia (no heavy gaming, obviously) device. Personally, I think I'd be hard-pressed to live without a good old laptop. I also cannot see myself spending over $1,000 on a tablet that I'd use as a back-up for work purposes or while I am on the move.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a large, powerful, but also expensive tablet that is primarily designed for content creators and professionals who need a device that can survive rain and dust to work in the field. It is unlikely that the model will be of interest to those users who need a home tablet to watch Netflix.

If you’re okay with the Tab S9 Ultra’s size, you’ll absolutely love it. The screen and speakers are an entertainment dream, whether you’re watching a movie or listening to a podcast. It streams games like a game with nippy Wi-Fi speeds, and DeX mode makes it a workhorse when paired with a keyboard and mouse. Samsung’s software has also been honed for tablets over the years to great effect. Adding water resistance this year doesn’t make the Tab S9 Ultra any less niche – the sheer scale of the thing will definitely limit its appeal. But that doesn’t stop Samsung’s priciest tablet being a technology showcase to lust over.

If you're looking for a super powerful large-screen Android tablet for productivity and multimedia tasks, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the one to beat. It's got it all, though you don't lose much by stepping down to the smaller and less expensive Tab S9+ or Tab S9 other than screen real estate. If you've got other Samsung devices, the Tab S9 Ultra plays nicely with features like seamless file sharing and text messaging. Moreover, Dex mode and Samsung's multitasking tweaks to Android make the Tab S9 Ultra a better pick for a productivity machine than Lenovo Tab Extreme. Despite Samsung's best efforts, however, the Tab S9 Ultra isn't quite a laptop replacement and some buyers in this price range may be better off with a Windows-powered Microsoft Surface Pro 9, while others may find the iPad Pro with iOS 17 a better fit. But as far as big Android tablets go, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the best of the bunch.

The iPad Pro models are the real threat to the Galaxies, of course. But what the Tab S9 Ultra has that no iPad can offer? DeX! While Apple users must go through various hoops and loops so their iPad may become something that vaguely resembles desktop, Samsung needs only a compatible mouse and keyboard. It's that easy. And maybe that is the biggest difference between the iPads and the Galaxies - the first was never intended or designed as a laptop replacement but more like a niche product of its own, while the Galaxy was made for both. And the Tab S9 Ultra is successful at both. The S-Pen is bundled, which is yet another big difference between iPad and Galaxy. While Apple will happily charge you for the slightest hint of accessory, you do get the pen here. And it's of the good kind - the active one with the capacitor and wireless connectivity.

Like some of Samsung's other high-end Android devices, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra's price requires careful consideration. If you balk at the idea of spending $1,200 or more on an Android slate, you should move along. While the Tab S9 Ultra is great for many things, the gorgeous display, video conferencing prowess, and solid performance are not going to convince price-sensitive buyers to overlook it's premium price. Samsung's One UI integrations, which give users the ability to share data, messages, and even phone calls among Samsung devices also add value to the Tab S9 Ultra. If you're livin' the vida Samsung, and you want a big, beautiful tablet, then maybe the Tab S9 Ultra is for you. This is the best way to experience Android's powerful multitasking features, with the option to run three apps side-by-side with enough screen real estate that they're all usable. We also appreciate Samsung's S Pen integrations.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra takes pole position as the premier Android tablet in terms of its massive display, potent performance and upgraded IP68 dust and water resistance . Despite the number of intriguing use cases I found for the S9 Ultra, it’s a niche device that won’t make sense for most people, largely because of the price. That’s not a bad thing; niche devices exist for a reason, and some people will be well-served by this massive tablet. But $1,200 for the S9 Ultra (plus $200 for the keyboard case, or $350 if you want an integrated trackpad) is a ton of money to spend unless you have very specific ideas on how you’ll use this tablet. It doesn’t make sense for me, as I prefer a smaller tablet that I can easily use handheld and then drop into a keyboard case for getting work done. Still, for some, the combo of Dex mode, a keyboard and the S9 Ultra’s big, beautiful screen might make sense. Most people would be better off spending their money on a different device, though.

Put bluntly, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is for people who secretly wish the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 ran Android. It’s a high-end specialist tool, and certainly not for everyone, so you need to ask yourself a lot of tough questions before you’re sure that it’s worth the investment. If you’re just put off by the bulk or the hefty price tag, keep in mind there are cheaper and smaller members of the Galaxy Tab S9 family that are worth investigating. But the bigger question is whether you’re absolutely confident that Android can meet all your productivity needs, considering that you can get very portable yet powerful Windows and Mac laptops in this price range – especially once you’ve allowed another $549 for Samsung’s book cover keyboard. If you’re already carrying a high-end Samsung smartphone, the tight integration makes a high-end Samsung tablet more tempting.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the all-bells-and-whistles big-screen Android tablet with an exceptional build, stunningly detailed (and huge) 14.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, impressive processing power and long battery life. However, it’s very similar to its much cheaper predecessor, and its large dimensions mean it’s not as portable as you might expect, making it more of a niche option than the regular Tab S9 or Tab S9 Plus.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the latest high-end tablet from Samsung. And while it’s extremely powerful and well-made, it’s awfully large to use in your hands for very long. The good news: pairing it with a keyboard and Samsung’s Dex software make it a solid productivity tool. But it’s still too expensive to be worthwhile for most buyers.

The Tab S9 Ultra is a tablet on steroids, blowing all other Android slates out of the water.. This 14.6in behemoth feels almost impossibly thin and light, especially considering the top-tier performance and sizeable battery housed within. Its display is simply superb, when it’s plenty powerful enough to run any Android app you can think of. But therein lies the problem. Despite some tablet-specific tweaks and DeX mode, the lack of dedicated tablet apps and desktop-level software still holds it back. And at this price, being a great content consumption device simply isn’t enough for most people. Unless you can see yourself using the S9 Ultra instead of a laptop, there are better options elsewhere.

Just like last year’s Tab S8 Ultra, the Tab S9 Ultra comes with a stylus. What’s different this year, however, is that it can finally be charged in any orientation, a convenience boon, in my opinion. With the Tab S8 Ultra, the S-Pen could only be charged when it was placed with the pen’s tip facing upwards, towards the camera. This meant that you had to consciously place it in that orientation. With the Tab S9 Ultra, the pen’s tip can be facing either direction, and it will still charge, making the process a tad bit more convenient. Further, as soon as the pen is attached magnetically to its charging strip, you’ll see a pop-up notification on the screen that lets you know the pen is charging and how much battery it currently holds.

So, without a doubt, Samsung's new premium tablet is yet another heavy hitter. It is expensive, too, but Samsung does have an enhanced trade-in promo program that pops up once a while, letting you get a bigger discount when turning in an old device. Is it worth it? Well, if you plan on using it a lot, maybe. And we mean for more than just Netflix binging or Instagram scrolling. The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a tool for drawing, editing, and even text and spreadsheet work thanks to DeX. If you spend every day on the tablet and do at least some of your work on it, it should end up enhancing your workflow in the long run — so yes, that may be considered as money well spent. The only thing that concerns us with it is the form factor. The value offer of tablets is usually their portable size. The Tab Ultra models are anything but. They are as big as a laptop, though definitely thinner and lighter. But if you slap a keyboard on them, it's basically the same thing. So, do you spend on a premium tablet or a premium laptop?

While it isn’t perfect, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a lot of fun. Having a portable screen of this size and quality to take your movies on the go is an exciting prospect, and while it may not be practical, it's about as close to a portable OLED TV as we’ve seen. It’s a little rough around the edges, with a screen that seems to trade detail for scale, but its uncompromising approach to being the biggest and boldest tablet still has appeal.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a powerful, well-made Android tablet with a beautiful display designed for professional-level productivity tasks. How productive you can be, however, relies on whether the apps you need are present in the Google Play Store and optimized for use on a tablet—especially on one with as much display real estate as this. If you’re after a workhorse tablet with a display size on par with many laptops, it's a fine choice. That said, there are some fine alternatives out there. The Lenovo 14.5-inch Lenovo Tab Extreme (which we’ll be testing, soon) is an Android tablet that offers similar specs and a build quality that rivals the S9 Ultra. And, if you’re platform agnostic, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro M2 is blazing fast and offers superior software support–even Google’s services.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is everything you need it to be, and more. You're buying it with the expectation of getting a tablet that has laptop replacement potential and delivers the kind of performance no other tablet on the market can. It's also water resistant so Samsung has even taken up the durability a notch, which is a welcome change. It blends that nicely with its ability to also be an exceptional entertainment device. When compared to last year's model, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra has subtle variances, but it's those variances that make it a worthy upgrade even if you bought the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Starting at $1,199, there's no denying that the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a very expensive tablet, but you're also getting a product unlike any other in its class for that price.

Unboxing the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, with a review of this almighty Android tablet after several days of play. It's crazy expensive, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is one of the best slates of 2023, boasting brilliant battery life and excellent performance. But is it an iPad Pro alternative? Simply put, yes. You'll want to grab the keyboard dock as this Samsung tablet is cumbersome to clutch for any length of time. However, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is one of my favourites thanks to its slick performance; that SD 8 Gen 2 handles gaming and multi-tasking, no problem. You'll get around ten hours of mixed use from a charge, although Samsung's slow charging strikes again. It's a 45W effort. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra boasts a sharp, punchy AMOLED screen which tops off at 120Hz.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is a brilliant piece of hardware, of that there is no doubt. It’s achingly slim, battery life is great, the screen is a thing of beauty and performance is fast enough to dispatch most tasks with consummate ease. If you are simply looking for the very best tablet money can buy, then this is a very good choice. The thing is, I said the same thing about last year’s model. The key for productivity tablets like this is the software and, on that front, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra still feels a bit like a work in progress. Still, it is considerably cheaper than the comparatively smaller iPad Pro so, if you’re prepared to put up with a few quirks, its big screen and bundled stylus makes the Tab S9 Ultra a very decent Android-based choice.

Compared to last year’s Tab S8 lineup, there are two tangible upgrades in the S9s: a new Qualcomm processor that promises to be a little faster (though speed and performance were never really issues in last year’s tablets), and IP68 water and dust resistance, just like most modern smartphones. That means you can use these tablets around a pool or bathtub, or more likely, you just won’t have to worry about life’s little mishaps at the coffee shop or when a toddler surprises you with their range when throwing a sippy bottle. I don’t know of any other non-rugged tablets that have this kind of water resistance — Android, iPad, or otherwise — so it’s a legitimate differentiator for Samsung’s models and a nice thing to have.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is clearly not for everyone. If you're intrigued by the slate's size but don't know exactly what you'd use it for, I don't think it'll be a good fit for you. After a couple of weeks with the tablet, I do like it more than I expected to — its giant, beautiful screen is hard not to love, and Samsung's tablet software is really very good. But I find myself wishing it were smaller more often than not. As nice as it is to watch a video or play a game on the thing, its extra-large footprint makes it less portable and harder to handle than even something like the Galaxy Tab S9+. I could see it being a good everything device for a small subset of users: it turns into a sort-of PC when you attach a keyboard or an external monitor, and its display and speakers make it absolutely killer for media consumption.

One of the big things (pun intended) that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra had going for it was that it was the first “Ultra” tablet in the Galaxy Tab S lineup. Because of that, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra isn’t as exciting. Perhaps that’s unfair to say given how it’s objectively a great tablet with a vivid display, speedy performance and laptop-esque usability. But if you already own the Tab S8 Ultra, it’s difficult for me to recommend this tablet to you. So who is the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra for? Like I said above, if you’re into Samsung devices and need a tablet that can double as a laptop, the Tab S9 Ultra is a more affordable alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra. Just be aware that DeX mode isn’t as intuitive as Windows 11.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is an excellent tablet for both multimedia-heavy consumers and creatives. It’s also great that you essentially have the complete package immediately after buying it since they’re including the keyboard and the S Pen is inside the box. So… here’s the end of the review. I really don’t know how to conclude this review. Some people will drool over the fact that this is such a humongous, gorgeous yet portable screen that is unbelievably thin. Even if you don’t use this tablet for work – then watching your favorite TV shows or movies is still going to be an amazing experience. Those quad speakers are a perfect complement as well. Take it to a beach or even watch it while you’re soaking in the bathtub – because both the tablet and the S Pen are rated for IP68. Its price is also not something to scoff at. A big, powerful, gorgeous tablet like this also comes with a big price tag. At RM5,999, it does come with the official keyboard cover case included in the box too – but there’s still no charger in the box. By the way, there will also be another S Pen Creator Edition that will be launched “later”, and we’ll take a look at that when it comes out – maybe.

The XPS 17 (9730) may be a bulky and heavy laptop, but its exceptional performance, expansive and bright screen, and generous storage capacity cannot be denied. Whether or not its size is worth the extra weight ultimately depends on your needs. Do you need to be running power-hungry tasks like 4K video editing on the road? It’s way too much computer if you are just doing a bit of web browsing, word processing, or other lightweight tasks – as the smaller Dell XPS 13 has more than enough power and is much lighter. If you require a computer that can crunch numbers and show the result on an attractive 4K screen, then the Dell XPS 17 (9370) is a great pick for 2023, as long as your shoulders (and credit card) are up to the strain.

I feel confident that I can get work done on the Tab S9 Ultra, and that's exactly what a tablet of this size and build is designed for - to possibly replace a laptop, or at the very least fill the role of a 2-in-1 for some. But it's not going to be for everyone. Compared to the Galaxy Tab S9, which now uses the same AMOLED display as the Ultra, or even the S9+, the Ultra is expensive. And that's before you add a keyboard to the bundle. If you're looking for an Android tablet that's built for work and play, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the one to get. Samsung launched seven new products during its Unpacked event, including the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, the company's most high-end tablet packed with as many features as you could think of. The 14.6-inch tablet is marketed as a premium device capable of handling most if not all power-consuming tasks -- provided the user is willing to pay the price. Mobile devices are getting better and better. This includes tablets, which can do most things a PC can. Already, some people are using tablets as laptop replacements. But what tablet should you pick for work, movies, and maybe some gaming on the side? If you ask us, the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series tablets fit the bill. They're high-performance tablets suitable for students, content creators, business users, and anyone who wants a great entertainment device. Here are some reasons to get a Galaxy Tab S9 tablet:

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra left me with a very good first impression. Although expensive, with a starting price of $1199, it's priced just like an iPad Pro with an equivalent configuration, a smaller screen, and an optional stylus. I appreciate that Samsung has included the S Pen and a keyboard with its flagship tablet. But I find the price of these accessories far too expensive. $349 for the Book Cover Keyboard, all the same. The tablet's design is a little too sober for my taste, but the finish is excellent. The IP68 certification is also a pleasure. The 14.6" screen and its high resolution seemed great to me, and I'm really looking forward to playing with it and seeing what the giant screen + 4 stereo speakers combo will do in the long term.

So, without a doubt, Samsung's new premium tablet is yet another heavy hitter. It is expensive, too, but Samsung does have an enhanced trade-in promo program and free storage upgrades for those that pre-order. Will it be worth it? Do you use a Tab S8 Ultra currently?

The flagship Galaxy Tab S9 is only the company’s second “Ultra” tablet, and there are many similarities to last year’s Tab S8 Ultra, with its 16:10 screen, dual-camera array on the back and magnetized stylus holster. This year, Samsung has upgraded the processor, the screen and added some serious water protection.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra impresses with its slim build and bold display, wanting to give you access to a rarer big screen tablet experience. It unapologetically packs in the specs to help it perform, leaving you to decide exactly what you'll do with all that space. With pre-order offers including a slim book cover keyboard (in some regions), it's a veritable Android laptop replacement. For digital artists the space will have appeal and if you want to pack this into your bag instead of a laptop, it certainly looks like it will deliver. The app experience around Android tablets isn't as mature as it is for iPad - and this larger Samsung tablet just about undercuts the price of the iPad Pro 12.9, so you can see where Samsung thinks the customers will come from. We'll be exploring the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra in a full review as soon as we can.

Samsung lifted the lid on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series at Samsung Unpacked 2023, with the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra arriving alongside the standard Tab S9 and larger Tab S9 Plus (head over to our Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 review for an early look at the latter devices, as well as our Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 pre-orders page for the best deals live now). A direct successor to the sufficiently bonkers Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, the S9 Ultra keeps the same 14.6-inch Super AMOLED display but brings improvements in the chipset, RAM, storage and durability departments, with an IP68 water resistance rating chief among the upgrades. Naturally, these features come at a cost – and given that Samsung’s Tab S8 prices are (or rather, were) exceptionally high already, the market for the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will surely be even smaller – but there’s no denying that this is a mightily impressive piece of Android hardware.

Based on my experience and everything we know about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra right now, the new tablet seems like a solid, if unimpressive, update to the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. It sports a vivid OLED display, svelte design, and should have plenty of power for whatever you need. As things stand, I think the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra should have no trouble finding a place on our list of the best tablets on the market. Stay tuned for our full review to find out!

I’m not yet ready to deliver my full thoughts, but I like what I’ve seen so far. The Samsung Tab S9 Ultra may not be that different from its predecessor, but welcome improvements to overall build and improved performance from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy could make the Tab S9 Ultra the premium Android tablet to get. However, the high price means it’ll likely remain a niche compared to the smaller, more affordable Tab S9 and Tab S9 Plus, which offer the same IP68 resistance, display quality and top-end power as the Ultra model.

Samsung was already most people’s top pick for a cutting-edge Android tablet. That isn’t going to change now the Tab S9 Ultra has arrived. On first impression it’s an absolute powerhouse, with a gorgeous screen and very slick software. You’d hope as much, given the price, but there’s enough functionality that many people could happily replace their laptop with one. All three Tab S9 models undercut their closest-matched iPad Pro to varying amounts, and don’t make you pay extra for a stylus, but Android still feels a step behind on third-party software support. Can it convince creative pros, who would normally default to an Apple tablet? That remains to be seen.

The Galaxy Tab S9 feels and looks amazing, but that was true of the previous generation as well. We're excited to spend a little more time with the Galaxy Tab S9 to see if Google's labor in revitalizing the Android tablet ecosystem is bearing any fruit for Samsung. However, particularly at their new higher price point starting at $799, $999, and $1,199 respectively for the Tab S9, S9 Plus and S9 Ultra, it seems like an uphill battle to win over tablet buyers that still mostly default to the iPad. However if anyone on the Android side has the brand loyalty to make that happen it's Samsung.

It’s taken Samsung a while to update its premium tablet range, but with most of the changes fairly minor in nature, this generation doesn’t look like one to get particularly excited about. Dust and water resistance are nice but less essential for a tablet than a phone. And while it’s great that the entry-level model now has an OLED screen, that’s probably something it ought to have had in the previous generation anyway. Plus, those prices do look rather high, with the Tab S9 starting at £799, the S9 Plus at £999 and the Tab S9 Ultra at £1,199. Still, it’s too early to deliver a definitive verdict, so we’ll be holding back from doing so until we get our hands on review samples. If you can’t wait for that, however, all three tablets will be up on the Samsung website for pre-order from Wednesday, 26 July, and on sale officially from Friday, 11 August.

This year’s Galaxy Unpacked foldable showcase is more of a Samsung eco-system barrage. Two foldables, two wearables, and no fewer than three tablets are here to tempt you to stick with the Galaxy family (or jump ship from rivals like Apple and Google.) While the fourth-generation foldables are arguably the big reveals, Samsung’s latest flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, is making its case for a premium Android tablet. The flagship Galaxy Tab S9 is only the company’s second “Ultra” tablet, and there are many similarities to last year’s Tab S8 Ultra, with its 16:10 screen, dual-camera array on the back and magnetized stylus holster. This time, you can attach the stylus in either direction on the holster, and it’ll still charge – an odd oversight on the previous model.
