Allerdings erkauft sich Samsung diese extreme Schlankheit mit spürbaren Kompromissen. Die Akkulaufzeit ist bestenfalls durchschnittlich und die Ladegeschwindigkeit im direkten Vergleich zur Konkurrenz enttäuschend langsam – doch wen überrascht das bei Samsung noch? Zudem wird das Smartphone bei hoher Last (z.B. beim Spielen) merklich wärmer als dickere Geräte.

Using the Galaxy S25 Edge for the past couple of weeks has cleared up some of my concerns with this new form factor — one we’re likely to see from Apple in the near future, too. Battery life is alright. Using a thin phone really does feel different. Subtracting 1.5 millimeters in thickness actually does make it appreciably easier to carry. The S25 Edge makes a kind of sense for someone who likes a large screen but not the bulk and weight of a big phone. But this person should also be someone who’s easy on a battery, and isn’t the kind of person who just wants to buy a phone and not have to think about replacing it (or more likely its battery) for as long as possible. Those are some pretty serious caveats. At the very least, I encourage you to go find this phone at your wireless carrier or Best Buy or whatever and just pick it up. It doesn’t seem that impressively slim or light on paper, but you might just be amazed at how it feels in your hand.

I personally don’t find my regular iPhone 16 to be prohibitively bulky, but I can’t lie: Using it after using the S25 Edge makes it feel that way. Thanks to a high-end chipset, you get comparable performance to Samsung’s best phone, too. Battery life is definitely something you’ll have to compromise on, and in my experience, the display isn’t great in bright sunlight, but this is a solid phone in almost every other way.

Despite that, though, it’s the compromises Samsung has made on camera hardware that ultimately prove the Galaxy S25 Edge’s undoing. The idea of paying over £1,000 for a phone that doesn’t have a telephoto camera and can’t zoom beyond 10x just doesn’t sit right in 2025. Not when phones costing considerably less than this are beginning to include telephoto lenses as standard. And that’s a shame because, otherwise, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge makes a fairly strong case for the skinny phone as an alternative to the mainstream. Performance is excellent, the display is gorgeous and even the battery life, though the weakest of its siblings, isn’t disastrously bad. If Samsung could have squeezed a telephoto camera in here, I’d be recommending it without question. As things stand, however, as interesting and impressive as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is, I don’t think it’s the version you want to spend your money on. Maybe Samsung will get it right next year.

First, yes, the battery life is less than stellar here. If you shoot a lot of photos and video with the camera or spend a lot of time in Genshin Impact etc, the Samsung S25 Edge isn't really for you. Likewise, the optics are a step down from the Ultra and rivals from Xiaomi etc. This smartphone is perfectly decent for video capture, but the portrait smarts and zoom abilities are limited. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is otherwise an enjoyable blower.

The phone’s 200MP main camera is great, but there’s no dedicated telephoto lens. And, while enough for the compact Galaxy S24, I do have great concerns about overall battery life powering such a large, high-end screen. That said, from a usability standpoint, it looks like Samsung could have a winner on its hands – though I’ll save my final thoughts for once I’ve spent more time with the device.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
