Samsung has unveiled its three new flagship phones at this year's Galaxy Unpacked event, and as expected, every phone in the new Galaxy S24 line is a top-tier device. The new lineup packs a ton of features, including one of the best cameras on the market, a barrage of AI innovations, and one of the brightest screens we've ever seen.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 is a very, very good phone, and one of a dying breed of more compact devices that should appeal to people who don't value screen real estate above all else in their experience. It's also obviously the most comfortable to hold and use out of all the S23 family members, thanks to its size. It's not very small, though - just smaller, but for people with smaller hands, that might be all that's needed. Additionally, the Galaxy S23 is a very good deal nowadays, with prices going down significantly since its launch - as it usually happens with Samsung's flagships. That's bad news for people who bought at RRP and want to sell now, but it's great news for you if you want to purchase one today. This is a very good phone that's easy on the pocket (or bank account), so what's not to like?

I personally have been enjoying the Samsung Galaxy S23 quite a lot. For $800, you get a phone that has a sleek and compact design that feels excellent to hold and use one-handed. The display is sharp and beautiful, with vibrant colors and rich blacks. Performance is fast and the cameras are reliable. Plus, the S23 will get major software upgrades for the next four years, and with five years of regular security updates, this phone has longevity. And even though it’s the smallest battery of the S23 lineup, I still found it to be pretty long-lasting, though I wish the charging speed could be faster like its siblings. Those who like smaller, compact phones will like the S23. But if you need a larger screen, there’s the Galaxy S23 Plus with a 6.6-inch screen for $200 more. It has pretty much the same specs as the regular S23 but with faster charging. But is that worth the $999 price tag? For a lot of people, probably not.

There are probably two main reasons why you might opt for the S23 over the S23 Ultra. One is price, and one is size – and both are fairly big reasons. If you’re somebody who wants a well-functioning, top-line Samsung but don’t want to spend over $1,000/£1,000 and/or you don’t want a massive device, then this is a good option . In essence, it’s a shame that the S23 Ultra isn’t available in a similar size. That said, this is still of course a fairly high-priced phone. While you do get three lenses and high-quality photography, for the price, I’d have liked to see a little more – especially a macro mode. Overall, there’s a lot to like about the Samsung S23 and it comes highly recommended for Samsung fans. Those on a stricter budget and less brand loyalty might want to turn their attention to Google and OnePlus however.

As I mentioned above, I love the in-hand feel and compactness of the S23. It’s super lightweight and still packs power-packed performance. It has a beautiful display, flagship-grade camera setup, and highly customisable UI. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 glides through everyday use, and the 120Hz refresh rate is like a cherry on top, which further makes day-to-day usage buttery smooth. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S23 still holds its position even after more than six months of launch. Moreover, it is definitely one of the best options if you are looking for a powerful yet compact phone in the market.

The Galaxy S23 is a remarkably classy handheld. A proper pocket-sized powerhouse, the S23’s significant internal changes grant a whole new level of performance, not to mention that its beautiful AMOLED display and sublime photographic capabilities ramp things up even further. Even with the price hike taken into account, the Samsung Galaxy S23 is still stupendous value for money with very few downsides. Ultimately, if you buy the S23 because you can’t afford to stump up the extra cash for the Plus or the Ultra, you shouldn’t worry about missing out.

After half a year, the Galaxy S23 has established itself as a more than worthy contender to replace your dying phone — or put yourself out of your misery after months of near-dead battery life and laggy performance on your current phone. It's not seeing quite as many deals as its bigger, shinier brethren, but it earns its price tag quite handily, especially if you've got a semi-recent phone to trade-in for it at a carrier. It’s the Samsung Galaxy phone that’s easiest to buy and easiest to fit in your pocket. Is it as fancy as the S23 Ultra? No, but it’s also not $1,200 or the size of a small tablet. This is the closest we’ve come to a proper compact flagship Android phone in years. The performance and battery improvements here are worthwhile, even if they’re not as sexy as an overhauled design or revolutionized software.

Small phones usually have one particular downfall – battery life – but it seems Samsung has fixed that issue with the S23 and the impressively battery-efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, with the phone’s 3900mAh battery easily able to get me through the day without reaching for a charger. Still, it means that you can now enjoy a more pocketable form factor without much of a downgrade. The 6.1-inch dynamic AMOLED 2X display is stellar even without LTPO 2.0 tech, with plenty of brightness and detail, the rear camera offering remains capable even without a big upgrade and Samsung’s OneUI has some pretty handy features. The Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra will offer you even better photography if you’re willing to spend a little more.

The 6.1in Galaxy S23 feels positively diddy compared to the current crop of big-screen Android rivals. Should you go for the costlier Galaxy S23+ instead? We’re not convinced the bigger brother does enough to justify its £200 higher price. OK, you get a beefier battery and faster charging, but otherwise it’s just an upscaled S23, with the same cameras, performance and display resolution. When spending that kind of scratch, the S23 Ultra and its superior set of cameras aren’t such a huge leap. For everyone else, it makes sense to stick with the more compact model. It’s effortlessly quick, takes wonderful photos and looks every bit the flagship phone – and now it has the battery life to match.

Nowadays, phones have come to a point where multiple options in the flagship series mean you get a plethora of very similar choices in terms of specs and performance at various price points. We have to give Samsung props for keeping all three models of the S23 series relatively similar in terms of aesthetics and performance. There’s very little FOMO (fear of missing out) even if you pick the base S23 over the S23+ or S23 Ultra. A fair comparison might be to the Xiaomi 13, which uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and comes with features like LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage while maintaining a similar price point. However, Samsung's advantage is its robust ecosystem and the promise of five years of security updates, versus Xiaomi’s promise of four years of security patches. All things considered, the S23 and S23+ have to be one of the better choices in the affordable flagship category.

Having spent enough time with Samsung’s new phone, for this Galaxy S23 review, it’s clear that the pros to this new model far outweigh the cons with this new model. Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 owners may not have much of a compelling reason to upgrade, but the performance boost from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy silicon should be reason enough for other Android phone users to consider Samsung's latest flagship. Yes, the Galaxy S23 Ultra sees the more substantial changes, but it continues to have a just-as-substantial price tag. For a more reasonable price, the Galaxy S23 delivers a display that's just as bright and a processor that's just as powerful, plus cameras that can hold their own against other devices in its price range. Improved battery life removes one of our complaints about recent Samsung flagships.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 is a perfectly-sized smartphone that has a great camera, a good display and a modern, smart design. In fact, it's easy to recommend to someone looking to purchase a Samsung smartphone who might be considering switching brands but if you already own the Samsung Galaxy S22, there's not really enough in the updated version to make upgrading worthwhile. The design is smarter and you get a better battery but that's probably not enough to tempt most. Those looking for a smaller smartphone that bucks the trend of the phablet-style handsets will appreciate the addition of another premium compact smartphone to the market, though.

We’ve passed the time when you would anxiously trade in and trade up every year for the latest Galaxy, especially when trade-in values outside the carriers are mediocre at best for the Galaxy S23. Instead, if you know your phone is dying — or you wish to end your dead battery, super laggy misery — the Galaxy S23 is quite the solid phone. And if you don’t have an unlimited plan and a carrier trade-in deal to take advantage of, it’s the Galaxy that’s easiest to buy and easiest to fit in your pocket. Is it as fancy as the S23 Ultra? No, but it’s also not $1,200 or the size of a small tablet. This is the closest we’ve come to a proper compact flagship Android phone in years. There's no such thing as a perfect phone, but every year, Samsung gets even close to hitting the mark with its baby flagship. Last year, the company had some hurdles to overcome, but the company proved that it was listening to user feedback and gave us the improvements we were hoping for. The Galaxy S23 crams a lot of power into a small body, and it manages that power quite well. Performance is stellar and battery life is much improved. There's a lot to like about the Galaxy S23, so much so that I'm disappointed we didn't get the same level of improvements with the Galaxy S22. I'm not a huge fan of the cameras, but they're still good and definitely not a deal breaker in my eyes.

The vanilla Samsung Galaxy S23 model is the wallflower of the bunch; outshined by its siblings in both appearance and even features, especially when compared to the fancier Ultra variant. But in actuality, it is just as capable in performance and function, therefore still a full-fledged Galaxy S flagship through and through. Indeed, RM 3,899 is quite a high starting price for a base model for Samsung’s current generation flagship series, and it goes even further up if you prefer a larger storage capacity. However, what you are getting indefinitely is the most powerful variation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip so far, which is essential for heavy tasks and especially gaming. Not forgetting that the phone’s performance (at least in the processing department) is enough to last you for a couple of years without needing to constantly upgrade. On that note, I would personally recommend the vanilla variant to those who are upgrading from a mid-range phone, or a device that’s a couple of generations older. But if you’re insistent on owning a Galaxy S23 series without taking a sizable chunk of cash from your savings, then look no further than this particular model. Alternatively, you can always wait for Samsung’s eventual price cut that occurs later in the year, or shortly after it releases the series’ successor in 2024.

If you're after a powerful, feature-rich flagship smartphone that's also small and light, there are few that match the Galaxy S23. It's the do-everything Android phone for 2023, and the one that's easiest to recommend to just about everyone looking for a solid, everyday device that'll last the next 3-4 years. The only problem is, it doesn't move the notch up significantly from the S22, and - given that its predecessor is now cheaper and still has a few years of software and security patches to keep it up to date - it might just be the more sensible option for most people. We certainly wouldn't advise upgrading from the 2022 model to this one. Still, in the context of the smartphone flagship market right now, few compact phones get as many of the key things right like the S23 does. It's got everything, and is undoubtedly the Android phone to buy if you want a proper flagship phone that isn't bulky.

Samsung is currently the only smartphone brand in India to offer a truly compact flagship phone, year after year. Most manufacturers withdrew from this form factor in the premium space as display size and battery life became bigger priorities among buyers. This holds true as even a brand as rigid as Apple, announced it's second XL-sized smartphone in the form of the iPhone 14 Plus (Review) last year. While last year's Samsung Galaxy S22 just about cut it when it came to battery life, this year's Galaxy S23 does a better job. It improves on that one paint point most buyers have with compact flagships and this should surely help it find a lot more takers. If you are in the market for a compact flagship and are willing to live with the compromises these phones are known for (relatively smaller battery and display), then get a Samsung Galaxy S23 by all means, as there's no competition. However, when it comes to value, it gets really hard to justify the Galaxy S23's Rs. 74,999 price. Samsung's own Galaxy S22 (Review) comes quite close to the S23 in terms of features and performance, including that compact form factor. Since it's more than a year old, you can now find it for roughly Rs. 57,999 or even lesser in online stores. If you are comfortable with something slightly larger, Google's Pixel 7 is a worthy competitor. While it cuts down on the number of rear cameras and is only available in one storage option, it's also priced a lot lower than the Galaxy S23 at Rs. 59,999. The bigger Pixel 7 Pro (Review) adds a third camera with solid telephoto performance at a price that is similar to the Galaxy S23's 256GB variant. Google's Pixel devices are also the first to get software updates and it's all stock, minus the bloatware that Samsung still loads on its smartphones. Also available at the same price is Vivo's X80 Pro (Review) which at Rs. 79,999, offers incredible camera capability along with better battery life.

If a compact Android flagship that doesn’t compromise on features, such as the number of cameras or battery life, is what you’re looking for, the Galaxy S23 is the best there is and you won’t be disappointed if you choose to get one. It ticks pretty much all the right boxes and is possibly the best compact flagship Samsung has made yet. Just be sure to check the Galaxy S22’s price in your country before finalizing your S23 purchase, though. The 2022 model got a pretty neat price cut when the S23 series launched and could be a sensible option for those looking to save some cash.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 didn't really need to change a bunch of stuff compared to its predecessor to remain a stellar little phone. Little being the operative word: this is a small flagship with big successes, including a better battery than the last-generation model, and a neat design that's perfectly in sync with the flagship Galaxy family. However, and much like I said with the S23 Ultra: I don't think those currently using the Galaxy S22 are going to dash out immediately to grab an S23 upgrade, because the differences and now higher price tag probably don't warrant it. But if you're coming from a different phone, or perhaps an older device, and are looking for a great small Android flagship then, well, Samsung has once again delivered the goods.

The Samsung Galaxy S23’s global battery score was below the average of our entire database, but the device outperformed its predecessor the Samsung Galaxy S22, particularly in autonomy and efficiency. With a charge that lasted slightly more than 2 days when used moderately, the Galaxy S23’s autonomy was below average. When testing specific usages, the results varied. Battery performance was decent when watching videos and was good when the device was idle with the screen on. Listening to music or using the camera outdoors, however, showed poor results. Moreover, the battery gauge was inaccurate, showing only 15.6% real capacity remaining when the device’s screen displayed 20.0% The charging experience was also below average. Wired charging took longer than the mean, but wireless charging was average. The autonomy recovered after a quick 5-minute boost was low at only about 3 hours, which was a contributing factor to its below-average score. The wireless charger’s efficiency was poor due to high consumption. Despite a small battery, the Samsung Galaxy S23’s autonomy was only slightly below average thanks to low discharge currents overall, meaning that the device is well optimized. For a device in the Premium price range ($600€ – $799), the Samsung Galaxy S23 ranked just above average in our database, held back by its poor charging experience, despite its excellent efficiency and average autonomy.

The Galaxy S23 is another accomplished flagship smartphone and for those of you who are loyal to the brand and don’t want a bigger phone in the S23+ or Ultra. However, in the wider market, the phone sits in a strange position as not only is it more expensive than its predecessor, many rivals are considerably cheaper yet of a similar quality. The Google Pixel 7 offers a similarly premium experience – minus a telephoto lens – for a considerably cheaper at $599/£599. The design and build of the S23 is top-notch as is the display and a considerable amount of the spec sheet. However, I did expect slightly better photography performance. The new Snapdragon chipset is just about the only major upgrade from the S22, though, and there’s no getting around the fact that previous-generation Samsung phones remain easy to find at much reduced prices. I started out really liking the S23 but the more time went on, the more I realised that the S22 is a better bargain, the S23+ is a better sweet spot and a number of non-Samsung rivals are better value.

Small phones usually have one particular downfall – battery life – but it seems Samsung has fixed that issue with the S23 and the impressively battery-efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, with the phone’s 3900mAh battery easily able to get me through the day without reaching for a charger, though it’s not quite a two-day device, and charge times do leave something to be desired at just 25W. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S23 offers a great (though not top-end) selection of tech in a portable form factor, and it should be a serious contender for your next smartphone – just maybe not if you’ve already got the near-identical S22.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ are a nice update to last year's models with improved performance and battery life. Small cosmetic changes, in my opinion, benefited these smartphones, although I would not say that they are significant. And the new products will be a good solution for those customers who do not plan to spend money on the most expensive gadget possible, although they want to get one of the best smartphones. The operation of the cameras at night is the only thing that slightly spoiled the impression of the test devices. But, as I already said, most likely this is a small error in the software (or our samples), which will not take much time to fix. Fans of this line, who already have an S21 or S22, currently have no fundamental need to run to the store for an update. But owners of older Galaxy, or people who simply plan to upgrade their smartphone from another manufacturer, should still take a closer look at these models

All things considered, the base Samsung S23 is a solid smartphone with a really a great camera, solid performance, and a beautiful design. On paper, it is down on specs when compared to the S23+ and the S23 Ultra, especially when it comes to storage and even battery. However, it still delivers what you would expect from a flagship model both in features, function, and performance. At the same time, the standard S23 is more affordable than its bigger siblings, making it lighter for your wallet. For those interested, the Samsung S23 starts at PHP 53,990 for the 8GB|128GB and PHP 57,990 for the 8GB|256GB variant. For those that currently use the S22, that price might not be worth the upgrade even if you do factor in Samsung’s trade-in offer. But for those that use older Samsung Galaxy S-series phones, the S23 is definitely a great buy and upgrade if you have the budget.

The base model Samsung Galaxy S23 is a good phone, but you already knew that. It is the latest in a long line of flagship offerings from the South Korean outfit that delivers a simple and clean aesthetic, powerful performance, clear display, and solid battery life. The problem is that you could say the exact same thing about its predecessor, or indeed the model before that. If you already own an S22, upgrading to the new option does not make a lot of sense, unless you can get a seriously good trade-in amount. Otherwise, there is no real need to upgrade right now. That is not a slight on the S23, simply the result of a smartphone maker releasing a very good flagship phone only 12 months ago too.

Those who are in the market for a new Android phone, but don’t need something as advanced as the Galaxy S23 Ultra, should really consider picking up the regular S23. I feel like it’s a perfect size, and it’s fast and snappy. I’m not sure if it’s worth getting if you still have an S22, though, as the upgrades are pretty iterative and minor. But for everyone else? It’s a fantastic buy.

Galaxy S23 and S23+ make a strong case for those who want a flagship smartphone experience, but don't want to spend all that much for all the extra bells and whistles of the Ultra. They are well-designed, have reliable cameras, the performance part is great, and even battery life has been vastly improved versus what we got with the vanilla S22 and S22+ last year.

The Galaxy S23 is every bit as powerful as its siblings. It comes with pretty much everything you'd expect from a flagship in 2023, including a beautiful 6.1-inch AMOLED display, a powerful flagship chipset, a versatile and capable set of cameras, and — most importantly — an all-day battery to keep up with your demanding needs. I wish it had support for faster charging and 256GB UFS 4.0 storage variant as the default option, but I can't complain. This is an excellent option for those looking to buy a compact phone.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 is a small flagship that offers most of the larger Galaxy S23+'s best features for $200 less. That said, it doesn't quite measure up to the S23+ in terms of charging speed and UWB support, and neither model can match the S23 Ultra's imaging prowess with its 200MP camera. That makes the S23 Ultra the best of the bunch, as well as our Editors' Choice winner, but not everyone wants a phone that large. So when it comes to smaller Android phones, you can't do much better than the Galaxy S23. The Pixel 7 is a decent alternative if you want to save some money, but it isn't nearly as powerful. The iPhone 14 is also a solid competitor for a similar price, with the caveat that you're trading Android for iOS.

While Samsung reserved the best of the best features for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, it did not mistreat the vanilla Galaxy S23. The fast performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the vivid OLED display that has little to complain about, decent cameras, Samsung’s custom software to make navigation easier, and, most importantly, the compact size makes the Galaxy S23 an appealing phone. It has some pitfalls when compared with other phones, but if you wanted them, you would not be looking at the Galaxy S23. If you think you are drawn to the Galaxy S23, it is because of how charmingly compact this phone is. The ease of using a smartphone – the way it should be – is what the Galaxy S23 materialises without effort. The price of Rs 74,999 could push some customers away to look for options like the OnePlus 11 5G, which has a bigger display for much less price. But, as I said, if you are looking at OnePlus, you were never drawn to the Galaxy S23.

If you’ve seen the Austin Powers sequels, you’re undoubtedly familiar with a little (pun intended) character named Mini Me. He’s a perfect clone of the main antagonist Dr. Evil but shrunk down in size without losing any strength or cunning — you can probably guess where this is going. Yes, the Galaxy S23 is Samsung’s very own Mini Me. It’s the smallest of its lineup, but it offers the same quality level (if not exactly the same specs) across its cameras, software experience, and build as the lead characters; in this case the Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The only question is whether the series’ pocket-sized sidekick is the real star. Find out in our Samsung Galaxy S23 review.

The S23 is also a safe bet, which puts user experience and an expansive software ecosystem ahead of hardware innovation or uber-competitive pricing. It doesn’t scream value for money as a result. More affordable rivals have taken the lead on charging speeds, and aren’t far behind when it comes to photography. With prices rising across the board, that might make the S23 a hard sell at launch – but discounted network contract deals are almost certain to sweeten the deal.

My only real complaint is with OneUI's app launcher, and I'd like to see Samsung do better at nighttime photography without the 200-megapixel sensor. Reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S23, a fresh compact Android phone sporting familiar camera tech but upgraded Snapdragon performance. Here in the UK, the Samsung Galaxy S23 is no longer blighted with Exynos - so gaming and battery life are both improved at last! This 2023 flagship phone sadly doesn't offer a camera update compared with last year's model. It's the same sensors, with very similar performance in day or night. However, the Samsung S23 does rock a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the UK at long last, meaning we finally get dependable battery life and solid gaming performance with no overheating. And OneUI 5.1 mostly behaved itself during the review, except for some Bluetooth jank. So that's my thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S23, one of the best compact smartphones in 2023. Check out my reviews of the Ultra and hands-on with the Plus for more!

The Samsung S23 series has some of the best-performing displays currently on the market. Regardless of which S23-series model you choose, the display experience will be quite similar and quite good, particularly in video, where every model achieved the same score. All models also exhibited “extra brightness” when “auto brightness” mode was deactivated on the device. However, there were a few minor differences in the display performance of the S23 that were noted during testing, some related to the model’s different screen dimensions as well as to the design and tuning of the display. The S23 is the smallest screen in the S23 series, but its powerful performance earned it the same score as the S23 Ultra. The S23 showed a good brightness of 1,600 nits under 20,000 lux, outperforming the S23+ by 100 nits, and coming just under the S23 Ultra’s 1,770 nits. The S23’s touch score outperformed both the S23 Ultra and S23+, helped by its smaller screen, which better-managed corner touches. The S23’s performance showed that it doesn’t always take a larger screen to have a great display experience.

After a few hiccups with the Galaxy S22, Samsung returns to form with the Galaxy S23. The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy provides all the power we could ever need, while the extra battery capacity can alleviate any anxiety about being away from a charger. However, it's not all great, and there are some changes (or lack there of) that keep this from being a perfect small flagship.

With a DXOMARK Camera score of 133, the Samsung Galaxy S23 delivered a good result in our tests, thanks to a very well-balanced performance, which makes it a good option for a wide variety of users. It was capable of capturing high quality images in most light conditions and scenes, including nightscapes. The camera’s 50MP image sensor was capable of capturing high levels of detail and images showed bright and natural colors. However, our testers also noticed a local loss of detail in some situations, especially when shooting under daylight, where the Samsung also slightly struggled with skin tone rendering. In video mode stabilization was effective and the S23’s autofocus system allowed for smooth focus transitions and good detail, making the device a great option for mobile video creators as well. Compared to the flagship S23 Ultra, the S23 uses a smaller image sensor and overall different camera hardware. However, in many situations the S23 came very close to the Ultra model in terms of image quality, making it a viable alternative to the top-of-the-line model.

All the models in the S23 Series are equipped with the same audio specs, and performance results were relatively similar among all three models, except for a few minor differences. For example in playback, the S23’s sound was quite bright, but it lacked some bass and low-midrange. Upper treble was a bit resonant and not particularly pleasant. In recording, all three devices provided an excellent audio-zoom performance, but the S23 Ultra had the upper edge over the other two because of its extensive tele zoom level, which allowed the S23 Ultra to gain significant points in the timbre attribute.

I still think most people would be happier with the S23 Plus, though. Performance from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is very impressive, and I have a lot of faith in it holding up after years of OS upgrades. Google’s custom Tensor G2 processor is also highly capable, but it’s a bit more of a wild card. Samsung also promises one more OS upgrade than Google does, which is weird but also a point in favor of the S23 Plus. There’s room for Samsung to keep improving its flagship slab-style line, even if the industry is collectively turning its attention to the foldable future. This 3x telephoto camera has served its time and could use an update, and the slightly nicer screen tech on the Ultra will surely trickle down to the regular S-series phones in the future. More than that, Samsung needs to give us all some good reasons to keep spending $1,000 on its high-end phone when Google has so much to offer for (more or less) the same price. Now is certainly not the time to get too comfortable.

We’ve passed the time when you would anxiously trade in and trade up every year for the latest Galaxy, especially when trade-in values outside the carriers are mediocre at best for the Galaxy S23. Instead, if you know your phone is dying — or you wish it would to end your dead battery, super laggy misery — the Galaxy S23 is quite the solid phone. The performance and battery improvements here are worthwhile even if they’re not as sexy as an overhauled design or revolutionized software. If you’ve been holding onto your phone waiting for something that wouldn’t spill out of your pocket constantly or force you to carry it around all day like some cyborg attachment, this is the perfect phone for you.

It is really hard to find a fault with the Galaxy S23, especially when you look at it as an overall package. Our only criticism would be the exclusion of proper fast charging tech for the battery – 25W is just not going to cut it for flagships in this day and age. However, everything else that distinguishes a smartphone from a proper flagship smartphone, is been painstakingly perfected. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is getting all the hype and deservedly so – it is a masterpiece unto itself. However, for most regular people, the regular Galaxy S23 works just fine, if not better. It’s significantly cheaper, the battery life is almost similar, despite what the spec sheet would make you believe, the speakers are fantastic, the performance is as good as the S23 Ultra, and the display is exquisite. The camera, barring the 200MP sensor and the 100X zoom is as good as the S23 Ultra. Essentially, if you want to experience what a proper flagship device is capable of but don’t want to spend flagship-like money, get the Galaxy S23 and you’re sorted.

Unboxing the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus as well as the regular 6.1-inch smartphone, with a side-by-side vs of the camera tech, gaming performance test, battery size and other specs. I'll be reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S23 next but here's a closer look at that and the Plus, to see which phone is best for you! The big difference between these two OneUI 5.1 mobiles is the battery (besides the obvious size shenanigans). I'm hoping for improved life on the Samsung S23 compared with the S22, but stay tuned for my final verdict to be sure. Both Galaxy S23 smartphones are powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, but the Samsung S23 Plus seems to churn out better benchmark scores. There's only a small margin however and the regular blower can cope with gaming on Genshin Impact on higher graphics settings. The camera hardware is also the same on the Galaxy S23 Plus and regular Samsung flagship. And while these aren't as good in low light vs the Ultra, they're still decent for everyday photography. Again, check back for the full Samsung Galaxy S23 review for more on that!

Seen in a vacuum, the Samsung Galaxy S23 is an excellent, near-perfectly proportioned Android handset that meets or exceeds expectation. The mobile phone market, though, is not a vacuum, and the Galaxy S23 is inevitably judged against all the best smartphones, including its own stellar sibling, the big and bold Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and its nearest Apple competitor, the iPhone 14 Pro. In that light, Samsung's latest flagship acquits itself nicely, with an excellent camera array, the most powerful Qualcomm SoC yet, a gorgeous screen and a multitude of other capabilities. But it does not outshine the S23 Ultra or the iPhone 14 Pro. In some instances, I found the S23 equal to anything Apple threw at it. In others, I wondered why the Galaxy S23 was – leaving aside the refined design – so similar to the Galaxy S22 and lacking compared to the beast-like Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Some of us just prefer smaller phones – and Samsung managed to fix up a lot of problems and worries by extending the battery life significantly, packing a beautiful display, and the cameras are still gorgeous. It seems that there will be plenty of good reasons to upgrade to a Galaxy S23 if you are coming from an older model — like an S20. If you have more recent phones, it may seem like the Galaxy S23 doesn't bring enough heat to push for an upgrade, and that's about right. The Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 are still excellent phones. Which only speaks to the quality that Samsung has hit now — these flagship devices can finally hold out and feel relevant for well longer than two years. And that makes it easier to spend the $800 on them, right?

Anyone who has held the Samsung Galaxy S23 in their hands will quickly understand why the South Korean manufacturer has been the undisputed number one in global smartphone sales for many years. Everything is simply right on the money: One of the best displays on the market and the currently fastest processor claim the throne. Only the 128 GB model could be criticized due to the lack of microSD card support and slower memory type. Thus, we recommend buying the 8/256 GB model or better. The triple camera configuration is the same as in the much more expensive Plus model, making the $859.99 asking price for the 256 GB model something to ponder over. Of course, Samsung's smartphones tend to see a price cut not too long after they are released, so you might be able to find a bargain a couple of months down the road. Back to the camera: To my surprise, the daytime shots were already good, but I was really impressed by the photos taken at night. The front-facing camera also took excellent pictures, which even put the ugly reviewer in a positive light. And the larger battery can even manage two days of use without a power supply. In the end, that is even a good thing: Because estimating two hours for a full charge is not part of our 2023 vocabulary. There are just people who cannot only charge their Android smartphone overnight, but also have to "recharge" it quickly during their lunch break. That, my beloved Samsung Galaxy S23, cost you quite a few points. Although the included "bloatware" was not cause for much enthusiasm, but you are excused because some of them do offer some great features.

As the current smartphone landscape goes, we can say without doubt, the Samsung Galaxy S23 is the best compact Android phone we’ve ever tested. Despite its compact form factor, the phone manages to win you over with not just its premium build and design but also its speedy performance, refined UI, fantastic battery life, and superb camera. It is a well-rounded phone in every sense of the word that offers flagship-grade performance without the premium of spending over a lakh.

Last year's Galaxy S22 was a great phone overall barring its battery life and this year, the minimal yet necessary changes Samsung introduces make a big impact. For less than Rs. 80000, the Galaxy S23 is currently one of the best smartphones you can buy, if not the best. The battery life has improved drastically, allowing this to be a more reliable phone on a daily use case scenario. The custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip performs much better and for longer, eradicating the heating issue. The One UI experience is once again a highly polished one, especially next to Apple's stale iOS 16, and the promise of 4 OS updates make it more tempting. The cameras are tuned nicely for almost all lighting conditions, and I think the absence of the big camera hump makes it an adorable looking phone, especially in the Green shade. That said, you have to look at what the competition offers. The Apple iPhone 14 at this price is inferior in terms of outright spec-bragging rights but is a more reliable package, especially with its ecosystem benefits. The Google Pixel 7 is still our top pick for still photography and the sublime Android experience but the compromises are noticeable. And then you have the bunch of Chinese Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powered flagships, all of which are feature rich but lack in the overall experience. This makes the Samsung Galaxy S23 a superb well-rounded package for anyone wanting to spend less than Rs. 80000 on a new phone today. It's got good looks, a nice and smooth display, tremendous performance, good battery life, and a versatile set of nicely tuned cameras – what else do we need to crown it the king of this segment?

I can safely say that the Samsung Galaxy S23 is the best small Android phone in the market right now. Its compact form factor and easy one-handed useability is its biggest selling point. Although the design may not be significantly different from its predecessor, the premium build quality, powerful performance thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, and excellent camera capabilities make it a worthwhile investment for those seeking top-notch hardware on an Android device without breaking the bank.

Samsung has made yet another excellent compact flagship that excels in every aspect and aces every test. The phone has an excellent 6.1-inch OLED screen with high brightness and adaptive refresh rate, the most powerful chipset on the Android market, and a superb quartet of cameras that will reliably capture whatever you put in front of their lenses. We are glad that Samsung took the extra step and made an exclusive deal with Qualcomm for an overclocked version of the SD8G2 chip, and this will surely convince quite a few Exynos-doubting users to grab a Galaxy S23. Throughout our review, we found that the Galaxy S23 has an excellent design with great handling experience, improved battery life and speaker quality over the Galaxy S22, it is also more powerful, too, and offers an improved camera experience thanks to faster Night Mode shooting. Things that didn't change this year, but are still alright, are the charging speed and the camera hardware. The Galaxy S23 has its peculiarities, too. The 128GB model uses the older UFS 3.1 storage chips. And while this year the S23+ got UWB support, it is still missing on the Galaxy S23. Then, many competitors' displays have 10-bit or even 12-bit color depth, while the Galaxy S23 series is still stuck on standard 8-bit color. And, finally, the GPU stability is not ideal, though this is an occasional thing among phones with passive cooling solutions and top of the line chipsets. The Galaxy S23 isn't a major upgrade over the Galaxy S22, and we doubt many people will jump on the new generation. But we can see a lot of people using older phones chose this one for its compact design and all-around package and experience. Even better, those who chose not to get a Galaxy S because of Exynos - well, they can finally get a phone they like, with an overclocked chipset at that. The new Galaxy S23 made our verdict quite easy this time - it's an impressive smartphone with modern specs and capabilities. It's a compact and lightweight phone, still priced below or around €1,000, making it much more attractive than Apple's offers. And for all of these, the vanilla Galaxy S23 gets a big thumbs up from us!

Last but not least, the smartphone makers come with a great set of features and perks that will handle thoroughly the performance and gives beautiful camera results. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus are good choices that you should consider if you want to fully fledge flagship phones. If you are looking for a compact deal, we recommend you choose the Galaxy S23 in the first place. Though, you won’t find any major difference in the Plus variant except for the bigger battery life and tall aspect display. We will only recommend the Galaxy S23 Plus if you are willing to pay roughly $200 more for the bigger phone. Finally, you can look at alternative options like the ZTE Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro Plus, which comes with the same chipset for a lower price but have to give up the flagship camera setup. The final decision is in your hands, so choose according to your needs.

The upgrades Samsung has made to the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus are welcome, even if they don't look that large on paper. We like the new, tougher design, not to mention the potential of the updated selfie camera, larger batteries and custom chipset. But more testing is definitely needed to see if this is a big step forward from the Galaxy S22 series or more of a short shuffle ahead. But if you're tempted by other phones in the $800 to $1,000 price range, you may want to wait for our full review to see if the Galaxy S23 or Galaxy S23 Plus is the best use of your money.

Overall, this feels like a mild spec bump over the S22, new chip and massive camera improvement on the S23 Ultra aside. The hardware hasn’t changed all that much, and you even get mostly the same cameras as before on the S23 and S23+, just with some software enhancements. As with the iPhone 14, it feels like customers are getting shortchanged here, especially considering that the prices have gone up quite a bit over last year:

The Samsung Galaxy S23 comes from good stock. You can tell that, because it didn't really need to change a bunch of stuff compared to its predecessor. And while it may therefore appear that Samsung has played it safe with this release, and upgraders from last generation are likely to be few as a result, the S23's small design and battery tweaks will no doubt appeal to others seeking a smaller-scale flagship Android phone.

So, what if Samsung did something it never really does, but that actually makes a lot of sense? Let me explain. For years the Galaxy S series has been the company's creme of the crop. Their best of the best in design, hardware, cameras and software. What the company has never done with it is iterate. Ever since generation one, every single Galaxy S has had its own design story. The S2 looked nothing like the S1, and so on and so forth ever since 2010. It's just not a common thing for Samsung to stick to a design for a second year at least on this lineup. We've seen it with the Galaxy A53, and also some of its laptops, but not their Galaxy S. This would be the first time we see sort of see this, but I'm actually gonna tell you that it makes sense if you didn't judge a book by its cover. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and after spending a bit over two hours with Samsung's new flaghships, there's a lot to share in today's hands-on.

The Samsung Galaxy S23's battery capacity has grown from the previous 3,700mAh to 3,900mAh, but the charging speed is still limited to 25W for wired and 10W for wireless charging. The Samsung Galaxy S23+ also gets a bigger 4,700mAh battery (from the previous 4,500mAh) but it can now charge at 45W when plugged in. Wireless charging is still limited to 10W. Both smartphones are powered by One UI 5.1 which is based on Android 13. Just like last year, Samsung has reserved the best hardware for its ‘Ultra' model and because of that, there's little that has changed with the new Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23+ models this year when it comes to features. Minor cosmetic changes aside, Samsung seems to be banking on the customised Qualcomm SoC to set its phones apart. Stay tuned for our detailed review to find out if these should be your next flagship.

In my testing, the S23 Ultra’s camera array is overall better than the S22’s, and I’m excited to put it through its paces once I get my hands on a review device. Alongside its shiny new 200-megapixel camera, I’ll test out its other three sensors, and put the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 through the wringer, alongside the 12GB of RAM and 5,000mAh battery. On the other hand, the S23 and S23+ are pretty much the same as last year’s devices, with upgraded camera software and a better selfie shooter. The S23 starts at $1,099.99 for the 128GB model and $1,179.99 for the 256GB variant. The 265GB S22+ is available for $1,399, and the 512GB variant comes to $1,559. Lastly, the Ultra comes in at $1,649.99 for the 256GB model, the 512GB variant costs costs $1,889.99, and the Samsung exclusive 1TB costs costs $2,209. While previous rumours said the phones would be more expensive, this luckily isn’t the case. In fact, the S22 Ultra’s 128GB model was priced at $1,649.99, the same as the S23 Ultra’s 256GB. Samsung cutting the 128GB storage variant from the Plus and Ultra options was definitely a solid choice on the tech giant’s part. The S23 series comes in ‘Lavender” ‘Green,’ ‘Cream’ and ‘Phantom Black’ and are now available for pre-order. Further, the Galaxy S23 and S23+ are also available in ‘Lime’ and ‘Graphite’ while the S23 Ultra is available in ‘Lime,’ ‘Graphite,’ ‘Red’ and ‘Sky Blue’ colourways exclusively on Samsung’s website.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 is a pocket-friendly charmer with a slick, minimalistic design, a gorgeous 6.1in AMOLED display and, although not quite as capable as the S23 Ultra, it should be able to hold its own in the camera department too – though I’ll reserve final judgement for my full review. It does look promising though, especially for those on the hunt for a high-end smartphone that’s easy to use one-handed and will slip into small pockets without complaint.

So let's try and summarize everything. Say you're the owner of a Galaxy S22 or Galaxy S22+, and you're looking at this pair and wondering if you should upgrade. The pre-booking campaign didn't offer enough in the way of discounts to really make a difference. The slight spec differences are also not enough to coax people into an upgrade. Well, perhaps disgruntled owners of the smaller Galaxy S22 might seek refuge in the Galaxy S23's potential battery improvement but that may be an edge case. The outlook isn't as grim for potential buyers of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Whether you own a Galaxy S22 Ultra or are in the market for the best possible smartphone, the S23 Ultra has something to entice you. We're banking on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to bring a tangible difference to both performance and battery life. The new 200MP camera has the potential to be much better than the stalwart 108MP.

Samsung has just shown off the Galaxy S23 series and straight up, it is evident that Samsung has done exactly what Apple did with the iPhone 14 last year; except that Samsung is using the latest chip on all models. The Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra use the much hyped enhanced Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip as part of the Snapdragon for Galaxy initiative. Other than that, a few tweaks here and some mild updates there make the Galaxy S23 series fresh enough to let Samsung call it a day. Is this good or a missed opportunity?

Much like the Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+ are on an incremental update process. Of course, the design is a little fresher and more refined (RIP camera bump integrated into the edge), but on current first impressions, we’re in for something rather nice this year. With the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, improved night photography and a bigger battery, the Samsung Galaxy S23 vs iPhone 14 battle looks set to be a tight fight. But we’ll leave a full opinion for our proper hands-on review of both these phones.

Both the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus look about as well-rounded as Android phones get. Whether you prefer a smaller screen, or think bigger is always better, they promise stellar performance, slick styling and very capable cameras. They’re also safe bets, which put user experience and an expansive software ecosystem ahead of class-leading hardware or uber-competitive pricing. Neither exactly scream value for money as a result – but it’s an approach that has worked for Samsung for years now. More affordable rivals have taken the lead on charging speeds, and aren’t far behind when it comes to photography. With prices rising across the board, that might make the S23 a hard sell at launch – but discounted network contract deals are almost certain to sweeten the deal.

Yes, you’ve seen a lot of this Samsung Galaxy before and certainly shouldn’t rush up to upgrade if you already own a recent model. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Of course, we would have liked faster charging, a revolutionary camera setup, or a groundbreaking redesign, but incremental improvements are just part and parcel of the mature smartphone ecosystem. What Samsung has done here is take what can be changed without much difficulty and cost, and refined it that bit further. Furthermore, that consistency is allowing Samsung to support its products longer-term. The Galaxy S23 series still comes with an Android-leading update pledge of four-year OS and five-year security patches. Meanwhile, eschewing ultra-fast charging might seem less sexy, but it will help the batteries last many years. The company also offers decent trade-in value on older models should you want to upgrade early. With Galaxy S23 prices the same as last year in the US (due in no small part to the phone’s familiarity), the Galaxy S23 series continues to stand out as a solid long-term investment. Our hands-on time has confirmed that Samsung still knows how to build great phones, even if they’re not going to blow your mind anymore.

The Galaxy S23 is painting a similar picture as last year. The cheapest of the three new Samsung flagships, it’s still shaping up to be a classy handheld, with some significant tweaks to both performance and overall design. Of course, it would have been nice to see just a few more changes. After all, the S23 does cost more this year, starting at £849 for the 128GB model and £899 for the 256GB version. That’s an increase of £80, bringing it in line with the iPhone 14. The Samsung Galaxy S23 and its siblings are available to preorder today, with a release date scheduled for 17 February.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 appears to deliver a premium build quality, plenty of power and a good feature set based on the listed specifications and our first impressions, though it's certainly not groundbreaking. Improvements appear to have been made compared to the Galaxy S22, and the design has been refined slightly, helping you distinguish between them, but we can't help but feel like Samsung has played it just a little too safe. We suspect the Galaxy S23 will be a great device in use, and we really did like how light and comfortable it was, but there could well be an argument for saving some money and buying the Galaxy S22 instead. Samsung's eagerly-anticipated flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S23 is here, and it ticks virtually every box of leaked information out there about it. As anticipated, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus both dropped the contour. In Samsung's newest handset line, the S23 series, the raised bit of metal surrounding the camera array is gone. It's a cleaner look that makes this 6.1-inch phone, and its larger 6.6-inch sibling, look a lot more like the rest of the smartphone pack. You can read our hands-on Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus review and our hands-on Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra review for more on those phones. If you have more recent models, it may seem like the Galaxy S23 doesn't bring a ton of upgrades, and yeah — that's about right.

SD 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy: High-End SoC (System on a Chip) für Smartphones welcher Anfang 2023 vorgestellt wurde.
