On its own, the Galaxy S22 is a terrific value-for-money smartphone. For Android loyalists hoping to steer clear of the Pixel 6’s buggy reputation, Samsung’s phone is undoubtedly the best option. If you’re gravitating toward the iPhone 13, the Galaxy S22 leapfrogs it with an extra telephoto camera, faster charging, a more modern design, and a less restrictive operating system. So, here’s the final verdict: If you are in the market for an Android phone with clean looks, good cameras, and feature-rich software, but don’t want to shell out over a thousand dollars, the Galaxy S22 is your best bet.

The smallest of the Galaxy S22 family makes up for its small size by offering big power, thanks to the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. The design has been refined from its predecessor, giving us possibly the best-looking Galaxy smartphone we've ever had. However, all this power comes at the expense of some comfort, which could be a deal-breaker for some.

No one would consider the Galaxy S22 a big leap forward for Samsung's phones, though I'm not sure it really needs to be. The fact that Samsung is extending software support for an extra year suggests the phone maker knows people are holding on to phones longer and that anyone with last year's Galaxy S21 is unlikely to be eyeing an upgrade. Instead, the Galaxy S22 seems aimed at people who have older phones — at least two years old, though people still using a phone from 2019 or earlier will see the biggest improvements when they upgrade to the Galaxy S22. This is a solid step ahead for Samsung, with the improvements to the display and the camera particularly noticeable. As to Samsung's claim on the title of best phone, I think you can make a better case for Galaxy S22 Ultra and its higher-end features (and Apple still might have something to say about that with its iPhone 13 Pro models). The Galaxy S22 is a flagship phone for people who don't want to spend $1,000 or more on their next handset, but still want a premium device. On that front, Samsung more than delivers what you're asking for.

The fact that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 isn’t the perfect alternative, and the Asus Zenfone 9 isn’t readily available across all smartphone markets, makes me really hopeful about another compact Galaxy S series flagship next year. While I don’t roam around wearing a T-shirt that reads “Compact phones FTW”, I have to admit that I enjoyed keeping my pockets free of bulk these past months. That’s especially true if the “compact phone” I am carrying can handle my day-to-day workloads, albeit not as elegantly as the Galaxy S22 Ultra or the Galaxy Z Fold 4 would. Despite the potential alternatives reaching the market, the Galaxy S22 continues to remain the phone that’s capable of handling just about any task you throw at it. It also has top-notch cameras and arguably the best software support in the Android space.

The Galaxy S22 is a decent phone overall, with the limited battery life being the only major flaw in an otherwise excellent yet petite package. The design of this relatively small smartphone is suave yet understated, and the screen is strong and punchy – even if it isn’t as huge as its rivals. The camera is highly versatile and very capable, while performance is superb – the S22 didn’t ever let me down during my time with it, whether gaming or performing less-intensive tasks. Really, it’s only the battery life that’s a concern here; but since this is such a crucial feature of a good phone, it’s impossible to ignore.

Overlook the Samsung Galaxy S22 at your peril. It's true that the entry-level phone in Samsung's flagship lineup for this year lacks the premium features of the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the larger screen of the Galaxy S22 Plus, but there's a danger in focusing too much on what the S22 doesn't have. A better way to think about the Galaxy S22 is to consider the value it delivers. Opt for this model, and you'll get the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset that powers Samsung's flashier S22 options. You can also expect a bright display and the same impressive camera setup as the S22 Plus. And all this comes in package that starts at less than $800 — $200 cheaper than the next model in Samsung's lineup. The Galaxy S22 won't be the model of choice for everyone, especially those who want every premium feature packed into a phone. But our Samsung Galaxy S22 review finds a phone with enough high-end features to impress as one of the best Samsung phones, especially at this price.

The bottom line with the base Galaxy S22 is that big things come in small packages. While not packing the most impressive specs, it manages to provide excellent performance that should be more than enough for anyone interested in a smaller flagship smartphone. Not too much has changed between the Galaxy S22 and its predecessor, especially regarding design, but that's okay. Samsung chose to launch the Galaxy S22 as a refinement of an already excellent smartphone, and that shows in several aspects of the device, from the design to the cameras, which provide excellent output. And thanks to the extended software support, Samsung is banking on you owning the Galaxy S22 for years to come. Of course, battery life is something to consider if you're planning on making this your daily driver. Samsung curiously decided to lower the battery capacity on the S22, so battery life is not this phone's strong point. you may want to consider that if you're looking to buy a new phone.

So, is it a good idea to purchase a Samsung Galaxy S22? It’s a great all-rounder device that packs a lot in a small package and boasts a top-notch camera. Not only that, but it also has an outstanding build quality and premium in-hand feel, as well as a software update claims that is unmatched in the Android market. Even though it doesn’t have the most cutting-edge hardware, it delivers a solid performance that should satisfy anyone looking for a compact flagship phone. Battery life is not really the strong point here, so keep that in mind if you plan on using it as your primary phone. Having said that, the Samsung Galaxy S22 is a pretty solid smartphone in my opinion, and you should have no problem using it as your primary device on a daily basis, provided that the small battery capacity doesn’t concern you.

We can sit here and debate whether a 6.1-inch phone really counts as a small flagship, but I’d say that the Galaxy S22 makes the grade. It’s enjoyable to use with one hand and carefully designed so that almost everything is within a thumb’s reach. Samsung’s latest vanilla flagship is a perfectly scaled-down version of the Galaxy S22 Plus, sharing cameras, displays, and configuration options. It’s refined rather than reinvented, which keeps Samsung right in line with its rivals. The screen is remarkable, the design is more premium than ever, and Samsung’s wider Expert Raw support even adds a new wrinkle to the already impressive new camera array. Sprinkle the best software and OS update commitment outside of Apple, and it’s tough to ignore the Galaxy S22 if you want a pocket-friendly powerhouse. However, Samsung’s decision to go small comes up particularly short in the battery department. The 3,700mAh cell can’t keep up against better optimization or sheer size, and the wired charging speed is slower than that of its Galaxy S22 siblings.

The Samsung S22 (Snapdragon) is the basic version of the S22 flagship series released this year, but it offers a strong performance for its compact size and its segment. The S22 (Snapdragon) screen is very bright, making it easy and comfortable to read in the sunlight, even though the colors are a bit oversaturated in this condition. Still, the Galaxy S22 (Snapdragon) is good for streaming movies because of it good brightness and contrast, as well as for web browsing and photo viewing. The phone is not particularly suited for gaming because of video frame mismatches and many unintended touch responses, which affect the overall experience.

The thing about Androids is that there are so many different phones at different price points and Samsung has to compete with all of them. Through that competition, they’ve included many new features that we don’t see on the iPhone. Apple, on the other hand, can come off as lazy. Looking at the Galaxy S22’s features, I wished that Apple added a few of them to their smartphones. Some of Samsung’s camera features are also a cut above what I’ve experienced with the iPhone 13— particularly its night camera and zoom. If you don’t care about social media, and want a fast phone with a good camera and a nice screen, then the S22 is for you. The phone’s starting price is RM3,499. Because of its social media-based drawbacks, I’m willing to top up the extra RM400 for an iPhone 13.

The headline says it all — the Galaxy S22 is boringly good. It comes equipped with all the fundamental traits of a pure Android flagship. For its price, the Galaxy S22 offers reliable cameras with a neat set of cool features, a fast processor, excellent build quality and in-hand feel, and an unparalleled software update policy in the Android ecosystem. There are a few blemished though. The battery could be bigger with quicker charging speeds and the thermal management is not the best out there. But the more important question is how it measures up to rival phones. Both the iPhone 13 and the Google Pixel 6 undercut the Samsung flagship by a healthy $100 or more, and offer polished software married to top-notch hardware, reliable cameras, and more importantly, much better battery life figures. But Samsung is trying to make up for it with aggressive offers. There are retail outlets that are bundling the charger for free with the Galaxy S22 and Samsung itself is handing over a handsome exchange bonus.

We put the Samsung Galaxy S22 (Snapdragon) through our rigorous DXOMARK Audio test suite to measure its performance both at recording sound using its built-in microphones, and at playing audio back through its speakers. The Samsung Galaxy S22 (Snapdragon) achieved a DXOMARK Audio overall score of 71, just like the S22 (Exynos). Because Samsung devices within a series often contain the same audio specifications, and because most of the evaluation results and subscores are so close and within our margin of error, we direct you to the S22 Ultra (Exynos) Audio test results for the full details on the audio performance of the Galaxy S22 (Snapdragon).

The Samsung Galaxy S22 (Snapdragon) came with a smaller battery than its predecessor (3700 mAh vs 4000 mAh), and it definitely had an impact on the device’s autonomy. In moderate use, the S22 (Snapdragon) registered less than 2 days of autonomy and showed weak performance on our calibrated and on-the-go tests. The device struggled when it came to charging, limited by its 25W charger. Would the smaller battery at least show better efficiency? Our tests showed that it did not, because discharge currents were quite high overall. In general, the Samsung Galaxy S22 (Snapdragon) battery posted scores that were below average, when compared with all the phones in our database and when compared with its peers in the premium segment. Although the device achieved a lower score than last year’s model, the Snapdragon version edged out the Exynos version, benefitting from Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

Samsung Galaxy S22 series looks like the ideal choice of flagship one would go for. If you prefer a compact Android flagship with decent battery life, the S22 should be your choice while the S22+ is better in terms of a bigger display that gives you a more immersive experience with a slightly longer battery life. Both of them prove to be the perfect flagships in their segments. Hence, the dawn of the Galaxies is upon the smartphone world.

There is no doubt that Samsung has come up with two really powerful smartphones here that deserve your attention. The Galaxy S22 is a really lucrative option because of its compact form factor and very less competition. It keeps things simple, is refreshing to use and doesn't miss out on any top-end features (except fast charging). Also, it's light on pocket. I see myself recommending this phone to a lot of people over the next few weeks. Things aren't the same with the S22+ though. The phone has the same camera and the same processor but costs more because of its large display and battery pack. It also faces tough competition in the form of iQOO 9 Pro and the soon to be launched, OnePlus 10 Pro. It may appeal to Samsung loyalists who are probably on a two-to-three old generation S series phone, but, others should wait for the OnePlus 10 Pro to drop in India and then decide.

The flip side of that reality is that while the S22 is engineered to be as good as possible for as many people as possible, it is pretty boring. Once again, boring in a dependable sense, but still hardly the device that is going to tickle a smartphone enthusiast's fancy. We definitely wish we could have a more exciting smartphone scene like years past when even titans like Nokia could afford to roll the dice and experiment. Then again, there is something to be said about having an ever-dependable choice in the latest (and greatest) Galaxy S phones. That is a significant draw for many users out there. Plus, the vanilla S22, in particular, has the size aspect going for it, potentially drawing in a crowd seeking a true flagship experience in the smallest possible form factor. And that's on top of those users simply wanting to pick up the cheapest of the S22 trio. If you believe you fit nicely into either category getting the Galaxy S22 is a pretty easy decision. If "default" is not your style, there is a vast sea of more interesting and exciting devices out there for anyone willing to explore them.

Everything from the design and the display to the camera, Samsung packed this phone with the best possible hardware in the market for the best possible experience. The phone has many advantages for this, we have already posted it in a separate section. But we also understand that a small screen is not everybody’s cup of tea and if the big screen is a must-have, then you can also check out the Vivo iQOO 9 as an alternative option, which features a bigger display and a much larger battery.

Android phone manufacturers have stopped making compact smartphones and sadly so. But when I recently started using the Galaxy S22, I heaved a sigh of relief. Here was a device that could comfortably fit in my track pant pocket and still offer the experience expected of a plus-size smartphone. Here is my experience of using this new compact flagship and who should really buy the Galaxy S22 in 2022.

Despite mounting Android competition in the premium smartphone space in India, I think the Samsung Galaxy S22 is still worth your attention as it's currently one of the best compact flagships in the market. With the Galaxy S22+, things aren't so clear-cut, and it's harder to justify its higher price for just the slightly larger battery and display. The Galaxy S22+ could still appeal to an existing Samsung user who's looking to upgrade from an older plus-sized model, such as a Galaxy S10+ for instance. If you're looking for something that offers more bang for your buck, the Vivo X70 Pro+ (Review) is a solid alternative to the Galaxy S22+. It offers a good set of cameras with a higher zoom capability and a QHD+ display at around Rs. 79,990. It lacks the latest Qualcomm silicon but it's a very powerful smartphone nonetheless. Then there is iQoo's 2022 flagship, the iQoo 9 Pro (Review), which apart from the lack of an official IP rating checks all the boxes for a premium flagship at a tempting price of Rs. 64,990, making it a solid alternative to either of these Galaxy S22 models.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 is hands-down one of the best premium compact phones in India right now. It’s the right size for daily use and is packed to the brim with features like a bright and gorgeous display, a premium design and capable cameras that are perfect for point-and-shoot photography. While the iPhone 13 (review) offers long-lasting performance that might appeal to power users, the S22 is no slouch either, at least on the Android side of things. It can perform daily tasks with ease which is perfect for the average user.

Samsung delivers highly on the hardware front once again, proving that it can build superior phones than Apple. The Galaxy S22 Plus is better built than the iPhone 13, and certainly looks nicer (and modern). Its 120Hz AMOLED display is a joy to behold while its cameras offer a lot of versatility, with great portrait mode photos. Even the battery life is great for a phone of its class, matching the iPhone 13 with equal use case scenarios. Samsung’s One UI experience is sublime and pretty, and its 4 OS updates promise is reassuring for those who want to use it for several years. The drawbacks come in the form of the overall camera tuning, where the processing seems to be over aggressive. Make no mistake, the photos and videos look superb but it can’t match the iPhone 13 and the Oppo Find X5 Pro in terms of colour balance and overall treatment. And since we are nit-picking, those sharp edges affect the comfort factor. Also, the iQOO 9 Pro outdoes the S22 Plus with its overall performance and faster charging tech.

So, after all that, you might be asking yourself if you should actually buy either of these phones. The simple answer is yes. If you don’t mind the $800 and $1000 sticker prices for the S22 and S22+, you should be quite happy with your purchase. You simply have to choose which size phone you want. There is a decent improvement in overall system performance when compared to last year’s S21 lineup. That being said, if you’re on a Galax yS21 device, my recommendation is to wait things out another year for an upgrade. Just keep in mind that Google’s Pixel 6 is a great alternative to both of these phones, coming in at $200 less than the S22 and the Pixel 6 Pro is also a great alternative to the S22+ at just $900.

The biggest change to all three Samsung Galaxy S22 models in India is that they pack Qualcomm silicon instead of Samsung's Exynos SoCs, which is something many buyers have long hoped for. The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ both feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Both phones are available in two variants, with 8GB of RAM across the board. The Galaxy S22's 128GB storage variant costs Rs. 72,999 in India and the 256GB variant costs Rs. 76,999. Similarly, the 128GB and 256GB storage variants of the Samsung Galaxy S22+ are priced at Rs. 84,999 and Rs. 88,999, respectively. The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ might not look like they've gotten any big updates on the outside, but a lot has changed on the inside. Another thing that's new is Samsung's One UI 4.1, which is based on Android 12. However, the most exciting change, in my opinion, has to be Samsung's big switch from its own Exynos hardware to Qualcomm. I still have plenty to test, both in terms of hardware performance and imaging, so stay tuned for my full review which will be out soon on Gadgets360.

The verdict’s simple: If it’s a compact flagship you want, the Galaxy S22 is an excellent purchase. It runs a little hot and the battery life is not dependable, but other than that, it’s a pretty sweet phone that doesn’t take away any of the best features you’ll find on the Galaxy S22+. If you’re a lover of small phones, you can’t go wrong with this one.

So should you buy the Galaxy S22? It's a solid entry — it's compact, it's powerful, it has a great camera. And it has the promise of long support and updates, and it doesn't hurt that the phone itself looks very good. Battery life and health has me worried and the fact that there are some very, very strong competitors that can cost you less money have me on the fence about this phone in particular. However, if you are all up in the Samsung universe, you will enjoy this Galaxy.

It’s typically a close competition with near peer equivalents when it comes to Android smartphones but the Galaxy S22 handily trumps the competition in the vast majority of key areas with a fantastic display, superb build quality, superb longevity with 4 years of Android updates and an excellent camera array capable of capturing superb shots and video. For those who already own the Galaxy S21, the Galaxy S22 comes at the same price point but with justifiably improved camera and hardware performance to justify an upgrade or a trade-in. While battery life could be better, the Galaxy S22 is otherwise one of, if not the best compact flagship phone that money can buy for 2022. If you’re looking for slightly better battery life and a slightly bigger display, the Galaxy S22+ is a viable choice. Those seeking the best Android phone that money can buy along with the addition of an S Pen stylus will appreciate what the Galaxy S22 Ultra has to offer.

On top of being hewn from Armor Aluminum and sandwiched between two slabs of Gorilla Glass Victus+, the Galaxy S22 is armed for bear under the hood. For the first time in years, the Galaxy S22 comes packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor rather than their in-house Exynos series CPUs. Traditionally, Samsung has issued Exynos chips for almost all of their Galaxy S series flagship phones but this, bar a few exceptions, marks the first time a Snapdragon CPU is issued in the Malaysia market. The Galaxy S22 also comes packing 8GB RAM as well as your choice of either 128GB or 256GB of non-expandable storage. Here’s how it stacks up on paper:

The Pixel 6 Pro is an obvious competitor here, and it sits between the standard S22 models in price at $900. It’s an excellent phone with cleaner software, better battery life, and some novel Google additions like a feature that transcribes the automated phone tree options you’re presented with when calling a business. It’s a bigger, bulkier device than the S22 Plus, but if you prefer a less cluttered interface and battery is a major consideration, go with the Pixel. The S22 and S22 Plus feel like a good fit for the mainstream, though. There’s the Ultra above the standard S22 models, but it’s pricey at $1,200 and feels like an enthusiast device with its stylus and multitude of cameras. The midrange class isn’t far behind, including Samsung’s very good Galaxy A52 5G, with better battery life but less robust performance. The S22 and S22 Plus occupy a comfortable spot in the middle, one that will please a lot of people. The phones’ solid support policy will see them through many years of use, day-to-day performance is excellent, and the versatile camera system handles most photographic needs well.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series devices mark a good start to what 2022 true flagship-grade Android smartphones will look like. They are operationally fluid, with amazing displays, impressive performance, touting reasonable uptimes for their respective sizes. Whichever model you choose, the Galaxy S22 series phones are generally a joy to use. They also set the bar to what this year’s phones should be – features intact, with high-quality hardware and software. At S$1,178 (128GB Galaxy S22), S$1,468 (128GB Galaxy S22+), and S$1,858 (256GB Galaxy S22 Ultra), it’s good that Samsung kept the prices largely stagnant for new generation devices. These phones not only offer a complete package, but they are also good enough for Galaxy Z Fold3 / Z Flip3 / Galaxy S21 Ultra users to consider trading in if they want to return to a traditional smartphone user experience without losing flagship quality. For Galaxy Note fans who have been holding out, the Galaxy S22 Ultra finally marks a proper direct upgrade with the latest hardware and the most responsive S Pen ever.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 offers very few upgrades over last year’s model, so it’s not going to wow you if you have a recent Samsung phone. If you’re still using the Galaxy S9 or older, though, the upgrades here might sway you. We’re hesitant to recommend the S22 when the Galaxy S21 has seen a year of price cuts, but perhaps some deals on the newer phone could make it a more tempting option. Saying that, many other upcoming early-2022 flagships like the Xiaomi 12, OnePlus 10, Oppo Find X5 and Realme GT 2 could give the Galaxy a real run for its money.

Samsung has embraced the idea of evolution over revolution when it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S22. While the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra basically resurrects to Galaxy Note, the standard S22 very much follows in the footsteps of its predecessor. That’s no bad thing. In my Samsung Galaxy S21 review last year I was impressed by the phone's design, performance, display and cameras. It was my go-to Android smartphone for a while, until my preference for ColorOS had me swap to the Oppo Find X3 Pro. So it’s no surprise that Samsung has doubled down on the Contour Cut design the S21 introduced. Combine that with all the leaks that came out over the past six months, and there’s nothing unexpected from the standard Galaxy S22. But that doesn't mean it won't have a crack at a spot on our best Android phones list.

Overall, I really like the Galaxy S22 and S22+. They’re the best Samsung Galaxy flagships I’ve tested and, despite various gripes I had about the software, are very competent phones. They more than cover the needs of most smartphone users out there, especially if you’re willing to put in the time to customize them to your liking. That said, Samsung’s latest Galaxy phones fall prey to an increasingly common trend in smartphones – iterative updates. Neither phone offers much that I’d consider new or noteworthy enough to consider purchasing one, especially if you already have a smartphone released in the last three years. Moreover, the S22 and S22+ exist in a bit of an awkward spot. Technically, both phones are better than Google’s Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. However, for most people, the extra cost of the S22 series doesn’t make sense. The Pixel 6 starts at $799 in Canada, compared to $1,099.99 for the S22. The Tensor processor may not be as fast, or the screen as high-res, but from a value perspective, I know which one I’d choose.

And so, for the starting price of RM3,499, I think this is still a fantastic compact phone. Remember, small phones come with the limitation of space – hence some tradeoffs need to be done. I’m definitely not happy with the shrunken battery when compared to the S21, but as an overall package, this is still a fantastic phone. However, if are okay with a larger phone, then I suggest taking a look at the Galaxy S21 FE instead. Looking back, that phone comes at a lower price as it uses the previous generation chipset (which is the more efficient Exynos 2100 for us here in Malaysia) and it comes with a much larger battery too.

If you're specifically looking for a small phone that's less than 2.8 inches wide, your choices are limited to the Galaxy S22, Apple's iPhone 13 mini ($699.99) and SE ($399) models, and the obscure Sony Xperia 5 III ($999.99). The Xperia costs $200 more (at a minimum) than the other options, and doesn't noticeably offer anything more for your money. Your decision at that point boils down to a choice between Android and iOS. The Galaxy S22 and the iPhone 13 mini are both terrific phones, but neither does anything that may convince you to switch between the two platforms. So while the Galaxy S22 is the best small Android phone you can buy, the Galaxy S22+ wins our Editors' Choice award for Android phones this year despite its slightly larger size. Ultimately, it offers a big enough advantage in battery life to justify its higher cost. And if you're a longtime fan of the Galaxy Note series, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is your best bet thanks to its larger screen and built-in S Pen stylus.

The Galaxy S22 isn't a huge improvement or departure from last year's phone, but just like an "S-year" iPhone, Samsung has tweaked and elevated all the phone's most critical components. You're getting a more refined design, improved performance, a sharper main cam with better low-light photography and an even brighter screen. And that's saying something from the king of mobile displays. Sure, some features like Vision Booster and Adaptive Pixel are more subtle or harder to use than I'd like, but putting all this in a chassis sporting excellent build quality and other premium features like IP68 dust and water resistance, reverse wireless charging and more is a formula that's hard not to like. And with a starting price of $800 for the standard S22, you're getting more phone for the money than anything you can buy from Apple or Google.

If it’s a small phone with a premium feel you’re after, it’s the Galaxy S22 you’ll want. No doubt in my mind. The thing is, you need to know what you’re getting yourself into, and for many, that could be an additional trip to the charger after work before you hit the town or go out for dinner. The battery life simply isn’t good enough to keep up with the sort of demand many need from their smartphone these days. If you’re an avid mobile gamer or constantly on social media, this phone is going to struggle to provide you with a full day of juice. In 2022, that has to be labeled as unacceptable. If you’re fine with the added stop at the wall outlet, it’s a really fun phone. The size is so awesome, plus the camera system is more than enough to snap great shots. If we rated phones out of 10, which we don’t, I’d give it a 7. If it had a good battery? Easily a 9.5 phone right here. That’s how much I like it. I’m now trying to get my hands on a Galaxy S22+, as that phone may be the sweet spot of great hardware and battery size. Wish me luck.

The Galaxy S22 at $799 should be a killer option for those that aren’t sold on the iPhone 13 with all of the true flagship phones that Apple didn’t bring to its non-Pro models this year. However, the battery life is a crushing blow to many of the power users that will appreciate those extra features. Using the 120hz display for gaming or recording 4K video will leave you with a dead hunk of glass and metal hours before you are ready to turn in for the night. The lack of the new 45W fast charging adds insult to injury as you could otherwise just spend 10 minutes to easily power it up for the rest of the day. Now if you aren’t bothered by sticking to 60Hz, aren’t gaming or spending hours on photos or video work or you simply take some time to charge up your phone a couple of times during the day then this isn’t a dealbreaker. The rest of the package is so compelling that the disappointing battery life shouldn’t dissuade you from considering the Galaxy S22.

For the chipset, you will get 4nm Exynos 2200 for Europe and 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for the global market. For the next level of photography and videography, there are triple cameras with a 50MP main camera and a 10MP selfie camera. You can video record up to 8K on the back and 4K on the selfie camera. I’ll be putting the Samsung Galaxy S22 and the Samsung Galaxy S22+ through more rigorous testing at a later date, but after having spent a short amount of time with the new phones, I must say I was impressed. Both pack high-end tech and clever AI into compact and sophisticated devices. So far I’m struggling to find any deal-breaking downsides, other than the lack of a MicroSD card slot and the fact that you’ll need to buy the charger separately. The only reason I wouldn't recommend buying one is if you just bought the Samsung Galaxy S21 because they aren't really different enough to justify it. For anyone else though, this is an excellent piece of kit. Although the Ultra is the cream of the crop, it’s these cheaper models that are likely to convince the most people.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 range is here, and the S22 itself is the standard model in the newest generation of the South Korean tech giants flagship phone line. The new phones for 2022 are very much an iterative upgrade, and the Galaxy S22 isn’t that much different from the S21, other than having a slightly smaller screen and battery. That’s not the case for the S22 Ultra, and we also have hands-on reviews of that phone and the S22 Plus, but we’re concentrating on the standard handset here. Perhaps the main difference between the S22 and its predecessor is the rear camera array – it’s not so much an upgrade here as a reshuffle, with a lower-res telephoto but higher-res main camera. This doesn’t make a great deal of difference to the overall photography experience though. The Samsung Galaxy S22 is a hair smaller than its predecessor, and the cameras are slightly tweaked, but the changes begin and end there. It's a fine phone, especially for people who like small-body compact mobiles, but it's hard to get excited for the device.

With the caveat that Tom’s Guide will need to do a full review of the Galaxy S22 before we come to any definitive conclusions, if I were to summarize the phone in one word it would be dull. That's not to say it’s a bad phone — far from it. From my experience with the Galaxy S22, it’s a good looking, comfortable, capable and seemingly powerful Android phone. If you are looking to upgrade from a Galaxy S20 or another older phone, the Galaxy S22 could be well worth a look. But if you have a Galaxy S21, I can't help but feel the S22 won’t be the phone for you. Small camera upgrades are great, but the S21 was no slouch there. Nor did I feel it was lacking in the performance stakes. So the upgrades the Galaxy S22 is offering aren't going to shift the needle; maybe hold fire for the Galaxy S23 next year.

In a lot of ways, the S22 feels like the “tock” to the S21’s “tick.” Last year, Samsung rolled out a fresh new design, and now Samsung is following that up with a bunch of upgraded tech. Sure, the outside of the phone may have not changed a ton, but the updated colors look good, and coming from someone with a Phantom Green Z Fold3 that actually looks gray 99 percent of the time, the new green on the S22 is much richer and way more satisfying. And while we’ll need time to put the S22 through its paces, Samsung investing so much time and effort in the phone’s new cameras really shores up the biggest weakness of last year’s device. So even though it’s too early to hand anyone the crown for the best phone of 2022, the S22 feels like a thoughtful sequel to an already strong base. Pre-orders for the Galaxy S22 and S22+ start today with official sales beginning on February 25th. And for those who do pre-order, Samsung is including a free upgrade to the next storage tier and $100 worth of Samsung credit (or $150 for the S22+).

As Samsung's top-tier trio for 2022 (foldables excluded), the Galaxy S22s are by definition going to be great smartphones. The extent to which they excel in this or that area (or fall slightly short) will remain a mystery for a couple more weeks until review units start arriving, but a few things are clear already. For starters, the Galaxy S22 is leaning more towards being marketed as a true compact flagship, thanks to its smaller size than last year and the build to match the other two. On the flipside, the smaller battery capacity could be its most serious con. The Galaxy S22+ makes a simple trade-off then, offering longer runtimes and larger screen area at the expense of taking up more space in your pocket (though it will 'help' by freeing up an extra €/$200 worth of its contents). Another €/$200 on top will get you the Galaxy S22 Ultra and it's trying to be everything to everyone. Whether you look at it as an S21 Ultra successor, or the reincarnation of the Note lineup in all but name, it's packed to the brim with hardware.

Modell:
