Both the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G and the Galaxy A14 5G offer compelling options in the budget smartphone market. However, the Galaxy A15 5G impresses with its solid design, large and smooth display, decent main camera, and long-lasting battery life, making it a strong contender for budget-conscious users. Although its limited computing power may hinder gaming or intensive tasks, and the additional camera lenses might not offer significant value, it remains a better choice for those prioritizing affordability and essential smartphone features.

The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G remains a solid affordable all-rounder in early 2024 with reassuring stamina, a solid screen, a decent main camera and a long-term software promise. However, its performance is somewhat sluggish, as is its charging speed, and you’ll find various upgrades from the newer Galaxy A15 5G.

The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G stands out in the budget smartphone segment. It’s a perfect blend of affordability, functionality, and long-term software support. While it may not cater to high-end gaming or have the fastest processor, it’s a well-rounded choice for everyday use, light gaming, and basic photography. The device is particularly suited for users who need a reliable phone with a good screen and camera without spending a lot of money. If that sounds like you, the Galaxy A14 5G could well be just the phone you’ve been looking for.

When deciding between the 4G and 5G models of the Galaxy A14, there are a few key things to be aware. The main reason for choosing the A14 5G over the 4G model is the 5G capability. But considering the current patchy 5G coverage in many countries (including the UK and US), you’ll want to make sure you’ll actually benefit from 5G where you live or regularly visit. But that’s not the only difference. The A14 5G also replaces the 5Mp wide-angle lens with a 2Mp depth sensor, which will be considered a downgrade by many. However, it is powered by a more capable chipset, regardless of whether you’re in a region that uses MediaTek or Exynos. There’s also a 90Hz screen refresh rate on the 5G model, which helps deliver a smoother visual experience. But aside from that, they’re identical phones. While the A14 5G provides slightly better day-to-day performance, it’s also noticeably more expensive. For most people, the regular Galaxy A14 offers everything you need in a budget phone.

If no other Galaxy A14 phone existed, this 5G model would be a very good choice. Alongside the latest mobile connectivity, you’re also getting excellent battery life and slick One UI software – all within a sleek, modern phone. But aside from 5G support, the same can be said for the cheaper regular Galaxy A14. Strangely, it also has more versatile cameras, though neither are worth writing home about. The A14 5G offers slightly better day-to-day performance and a 90Hz screen refresh rate, but that’s pretty much it. If none of those features are top priorities for you, you’re better off saving some money.

Samsung has created another dependably solid affordable option in the Galaxy A14 5G, but it struggles to offer something flat-out better than its budget-focused competition. Its display is fine, and both its 50MP main camera and its 13MP selfie camera are capable of taking decent shots in good lighting. I can’t fault the A14 5G’s stamina, either. Despite all that, I can’t help but come away a little underwhelmed. Rival brands have been offering broadly equivalent specs, but with much better performance and faster charging speeds, for some time now. What’s more, the A14 5G’s build quality isn’t quite up to snuff, at least on our test model, which isn’t something I expect to see from Samsung. There’s a sense of dependability about all of Samsung’s phones, and the A14 5G won’t let anyone down. But in this area of the market, where the margins are tight, Samsung can’t quite seem to make a definitive statement.

Alright, let's break this down: Entry-level smartphones are designed for budget-conscious consumers, offering a more affordable option with some trade-offs in performance, camera quality, build, display, software updates, and storage capacity. While these devices can handle everyday tasks like browsing, messaging, and social media, they may struggle with intensive gaming or multitasking, and may not provide the same premium feel, display quality, or camera capabilities as more expensive models. Despite these limitations, low-end smartphones are ideal for those on a tight budget, first-time users, or individuals requiring only basic functionality from their device. By setting realistic expectations and considering your needs, you can find an affordable smartphone that fits your lifestyle without stretching your finances.

If ‘A’ in the Galaxy A series stands for ‘Awesome’, then its safe to say that the the Galaxy A14 lives up to that label. It offers the Samsung phone experience without the hefty price tag. As is the case with many budget phones, there are some compromises. Whilst performance is a marked improvement over the A13, it is not quite as impressive as rivals – the same goes for the display. The camera also has issues with ramping up the colours and cannot adjust for nighttime photography. If you can overlook those flaws, then you’ll still get a nice-looking phone with an impressive battery life and a simple OS for a very affordable price.

The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G’s global battery score was slightly above average when compared with the entire DXOMARK database, with good results in autonomy and efficiency. But the device, equipped with a higher-resolution screen, couldn’t quite outperform its predecessor, the Galaxy A13 5G. When used moderately, the Galaxy A14 5G’s 5000 mAh battery lasted 2.5 days, a good autonomy result that was above the average, but the device lost about 3% of its power during the night. The device’s autonomy performance when testing individual use cases was below average when streaming video, gaming, or calling. But on-the-go tests showed very good results for autonomy. Discharge currents were significantly high for gaming, as well as for video and music streaming, but low for on-the-go activities, indicating that the device is not perfectly optimized. The Galaxy A14 5G’s charging experience was the main factor holding back its score.

With a vibrant and sizable display, extended battery life, a reliable camera, and solid performance, it's hard to go wrong. Samsung's excellent software update policy and the advanced One UI based on Android 13 further enhance the user experience. It's safe to say that with the Galaxy A14, you're truly getting the best bang for your buck. With a friendly reminder, just remember that by acknowledging and embracing the inherent limitations of an entry-level device, you'll be able to enjoy your experience without any regrets.

If you're shopping for a budget-friendly phone, you should definitely consider the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G. It offers similar performance to the comparably priced Moto G Play and the OnePlus Nord N300, but it has a sharper display, a superior upgrade policy, and solid 5G connectivity (the last of which you don't get with the Moto). You'd have to spend twice as much on the $399 Google Pixel 6a to see a meaningful jump in quality and overall appeal. For $200, the Galaxy A14 5G strikes a fine balance of power and performance that earns it our Editors' Choice award for affordable Android phones.

If you decide to reach beyond the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G, the closest competition could well be Motorola’s Moto G Power 5G (2023) ($299 at Amazon). It’s the first Moto G Power device to offer 5G speeds, and it bumps to 6GB of RAM with a more powerful Dimensity 930 processor under the hood. Motorola’s battery-centric phone is $100 more expensive, but it also adds an IP52 rating and 120Hz display to the mix. I’ll be testing it very soon and will update our recommendation here when we have a full review. Regardless, the Galaxy A14 5G is a better buy than the Moto G Play (2023) ($169.99 at Amazon), which makes way too many sacrifices for only a tiny saving. OnePlus also offers the Nord N300 ($228 at T-Mobile). It’s exclusive to T-Mobile, which might limit potential buyers, but it bumps to 33W wired charging and matches the Galaxy A14 5G with a solid primary camera, even if the colors can be a bit wonky at times. I’d still favor the Galaxy A14 5G, however, as the higher resolution display and stronger update policy add genuine value. Should you decide to increase your budget a bit further, Samsung’s Galaxy A54 5G ($449.99 at Samsung) is absolutely worth a look. It drops the budget model’s depth sensor in favor of an ultrawide lens, picks up Gorilla Glass 5 panels on both front and back, and bumps the wired charging speed to 25W. Sure, it will set you back more than twice the cost, but the Galaxy A54 5G figures to be one of the most enticing mid-range phones of early 2023, at least until the Google Pixel 7a rolls around. There’s also the Galaxy A23 5G ($299.99 at Amazon), but it suffers from many of the same issues as the Galaxy A14 5G, but without the super-cheap price tag.

Though I prefer higher-end smartphones, the Galaxy A14 5G is a fantastic value for what you get in this price range: a simple and sleek design with a large 6.6-inch LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate, decent performance, long-lasting battery life, and great cameras. Plus, with two years of software upgrades and four years of security patches, this phone is going to last a few years (the 64GB storage may fill up, but you can go up to 1TB with a microSD card). Other affordable options include the OnePlus Nord N300 5G, which costs around $228. This phone is similar to the Galaxy A14 5G in that it has a 48MP camera with a 2MP depth sensor, 90Hz refresh rate LCD display, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, and a long-lasting 5,000mAh battery. However, the camera on the Nord N300 isn’t quite as good as the Galaxy A14 5G, but it does have faster charging at 33W. OnePlus will only be updating the Nord N300 to Android 13 (it ships with Android 12), and that’s it, so the Galaxy A14 5G is better for longevity. Another good budget-friendly option from Samsung is the Galaxy A54, which also has the looks of the flagship Galaxy S23. It’s slightly more than the A14 at $450, but you’re going to get a lot more bang for your buck — including some awesome colors. You’ll have a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, and the brightness peaks at 1,000 nits. It comes with a newer Exynos 1380 processor, and an impressive triple lens camera array with 48MP main camera with OIS, 12MP ultra-wide camera, and 5MP macro camera. The selfie camera is 32MP, which is a big bump from what you have on the Galaxy A14 5G. The Galaxy A54 also has either 6GB or 8GB RAM, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, an IP67 water resistance rating, a fingerprint sensor under the screen, and its 5,000mAh battery charges at 25W. While you could get a Galaxy A14 5G right now, the Galaxy A54 won’t be available until April 6. I do wish that the U.S. variant of the Galaxy A14 5G came in other colors besides black, and there are very minor stutters due to the chip used. But overall, the Galaxy A14 5G is definitely one of the better phones on the lower end of the price spectrum if that’s what you’re in the market for.

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G is a sturdy, long-lasting smartphone that doesn’t have the prettiest display but tries to make up for it with raw day-to-day performance. In that attempt, despite its qualities, the smartphone falls somewhat short compared to other contenders in the price segment. The trade-off for including strong under-the-hood performance and 5G support at the cost of display quality – both look-wise and content-wise – might be an issue for some buyers. The Galaxy A14 5G is a good option mostly for power-hungry users who perhaps won’t mind making a few adjustments here and there.

The Galaxy A14 5G is what Samsung says it is—a cheap 5G phone. For this alone the phone has garnered a lot of popularity in markets like the US and Europe where there are not that many budget phones to choose from. However, all these changes when we look at countries like Nepal without proper 5G infrastructure. The smartphone market is too competitive to ignore the phone’s sub-par multimedia experience, performance optimization, and lack of an ultrawide camera and charger inside the box. Even in India, you can get 5G phones that offer better value for money. Samsung A14 5G is a decent-enough phone if you are looking for 5G connectivity on a budget. However, it is not quite relevant in country like Nepal without a proper 5G infrastructures. So unless you are fixated on 5G future-proofing, 4G phones are still the way to go in this segment for their overall value and much better specs.

If you're looking for an impressive budget device, you've found it in the Samsung Galaxy A14. It's one of the most affordable smartphones on the market and provides passable specs, advanced features, and impressive functionality unheard of in such an affordable device. Be sure to note the reasons it's so cheap, though, like its poor speaker setup and weakness to water. If these small issues aren't dealbreakers for you, and you need to save money on your next smartphone purchase, it's hard to recommend anything other than the Samsung Galaxy A14. A good phone from an excellent brand that runs Android 13 for only $200? Samsung has, in so many words, done it again.

Admittedly, it charges slower than most of its peers. Its display is also not as bright as some competitors, if not really trailing by a lot. And the fact that it's missing a wideangle camera is somewhat of a serious blemish. But at its level, are any of these serious, dealbreaking offenses? We think not. Plus, the A14 has its set of strong suits too, starting with battery life. It may lack a wideangle camera, but the cameras it does have do a great job for class - the rear camera is solid, and selfies are nice too. It's also running the latest Android with a more feature-packed One UI on top than the 'Core' branding has meant in the past. We talked about how the phone is hard to analyze given its somewhat different hardware and market context between region. As it turns out, Samsung's tailored hardware to context pretty well, and the Galaxy A14 5G makes a strong case for itself, be it in the US or in India.

Buyers are already spoiled for choice in the affordable segment, and now, there is the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G smartphone. Without beating around the bush, you shouldn’t buy the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G if fast charging and a good viewing experience are your priorities. Similarly-priced phones, including the Redmi Note 12 5G (review), Moto G62 5G (review), and Realme 10 Pro 5G (review), would do a better job with that. The handsets offer superior charging speeds and display quality with slim bezels than the Galaxy A14 5G. Additionally, they also come with a charger bundled. So, who should buy the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G? Anyone looking for a performance-focused 5G smartphone, with good camera capabilities and battery life, under Rs 20,000 will find the handset right up their alley. The long software support also makes this smartphone a future-proof device. At the time of writing this review, the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G is priced in India at Rs 16,499 for the entry-level 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, while The 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB options are selling at Rs 18,999 and Rs 20,999, respectively.

Given that the Samsung Galaxy A14 costs about Rs 20,000 or perhaps even lower, depending on offers and discounts, it ticks a lot of the correct boxes, especially for someone who’s looking for a budget smartphone from a reputable and established brand. Yes, there are a ton of options from other manufacturers at this price point which offers a ton of more features and have slightly better hardware. But then, they are known to have terrible after-sales services, and availability of spare parts. We also like the fact that Samsung has pledged two years of Android OS updates, and four years of security updates. Performance, even though not chart-topping is still solid, and not something that you can complain about. Unless you’re a pro gamer or an ultra-heavy user, you won’t find any issues. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G is a pretty solid device, one that we can confidently recommend people go for, if they want to go for a mobile phone brand that has been around for decades now.

The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G smartphone doesn’t feel like a better upgrade from the Galaxy A13, except for a decent selfie camera setup. But there’s no doubt that the new version is offering a superb design layout and affordable 5G smartphone configuration. Overall, you are getting the basic features of a mid-range phone without anything that appears to be appealing or exciting. Still, Samsung is a mainstream brand, so the phone will allure lots of interested buyers. If you are looking for an affordable 5G phone, you can consider this phone. But at the same time, there are numerous other options available in the market. You can go with the Vivo iQOO Z6 Lite if you are looking for a value-for-money deal in 2023. But still, the phone can be considered a great deal in the same price segment. Last but not least, the Galaxy A14 5G is worth recommending.
