It’s twice as fast as our benchmark testing unit, the Asus VivoBook S550CA. If you don’t have one of these other Samsung devices, or if you do, but don’t intend to use the Ativ Book 9 Lite as an extension of it, look elsewhere. You’ll get a higher-quality laptop for a lower price.

If it weren’t for the fact that I spent $800 on my Series 9 notebook a year ago and got a model that’s thinner, lighter, and faster, it’d be a lot easier to recommend the ATIV Book 9 Lite.

Its plastic casing didn't bother me as I appreciated its light weight and slim form factor, carrying it around a lot and rarely running out of juice. The graphics performance was also pleasing, on the whole. Even the vague suggestion that this laptop could be running a tablet chip didn't appear to be an encumbrance. Yes, I was prepared to be quite forgiving as I spent most of my time with it presuming it cost £400, which even then seemed a bit on the high side. It was only later I discovered its £500 pricetag, which rather took the shine off things for me. Surely, if you're touting a product as a Lite model, it really should be light on the wallet too – and especially so if you've something to hide.

Das Samsung Ativ Book 9 Lite ist ein preisgünstiges Ultrabook, das auf der Samsung Ativ Book 9 Serie hochwertiger, superschlanker Geräte basiert. Um Geld zu sparen, ist das Gehäuse aus Kunststoff statt aus hochwertigen Metallen und es nutzt einen AMD Prozessor statt den neuesten Intel Kernen. Genaugenommen kann man daher nicht von einem Ultrabook sprechen, denn diese Bezeichnung gehört Intel. Der Nutzer wird sofort bemerken, wie sich das Gerät anfühlt. Es sieht schlank genug aus, doch es kann sein Kunststoff-Styling, mit welchem es wie ein Billig-Laptop wirkt, nicht verleugnen. Das Tastatur-Layout ist für eine 13-Zoll Maschine gut und mit der Tastatur lässt es sich relativ angenehm arbeiten. Die 1366 x 768 Pixel Auflösung des Bildschirms ist gut genug und der Touchscreen arbeitet ausreichend gut. Farben und Bildgebung sind nicht besonders gut, was bei einem Budget-Gerät zu erwarten war.
Der AMD Quad Core Prozessor mit 1.0 GHz ist für die meisten leichten Aufgaben schnell genug, doch Multitasking und anspruchsvollere Aufgaben lassen zu wünschen übrig. Diesbezüglich gibt es sicher besser Alternativen am Markt. Die Akkulaufzeit ist enttäuschend und wahrscheinlich der zweit wichtigste Nachteil, der sich daraus ergibt, dass kein stromsparender Intel-Prozessor an Bord ist. Während die meisten ähnlichen Geräte 8 Stunden erreichen, schafft dieses Gerät nur 5 Stunden. Würde das Samsung noch weniger als sein aktueller "Billig"-Preis kosten, könnte es ein gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis haben. So wie es aber ist, sind bessere Optionen verfügbar.
Serie: Die Samsung ATIV Book 9 Series umfasst hochwertige Ultrabooks. Sie wurde 2013 als Nachfolger der Samsung Series 9 Laptops herausgebracht. Die Modelle sind mit bis zu einem Intel Core i7 Prozessor und 8 GB DDR3 RAM ausgestattet. Abhängig vom Modell wird entweder die integrierte Intel HD Graphics oder eine von AMDs neuesten Grafikkarten genutzt. Zudem stehen verschiedene SSD-Größen zur Auswahl. Die Laptops verfügen entweder über einen 13,3 Zoll großen Touchscreen mit einer Auflösung von 1.920 x 1.080 Pixeln oder sogar über einen hellen und kontrastreichen Quad-HD-Bildschirm. Die Samsung ATIV Book 9 Series Modelle gehörten zu den ersten Ultrabooks, die Microsoft Windows 8 Touchfunktionalität von Beginn an unterstützten. Allerdings kann optional auch ein Non-Touch-Bildschirm gewählt werden.
Bei der Samsung ATIV Book 9 Series ist entweder Microsoft Windows 8 Professional 64 bit oder Windows 10 vorinstalliert. Daher ist nach Kauf keine Installation notwendig. Mit einem Gewicht ab 1,17 kg gehören die Samsung ATIV Book 9 Series Modelle zu den leichtesten Laptops ihrer Zeit. Zudem sind sie mit nur 1,27 cm ziemlich schlank. Kabellose Kommunikation ist via WiFi und Bluetooth möglich. In puncto Schnittstellen bietet es zwei USB-3.0-Ports, einen Mini-DisplayPort und einen SD-Kartenleser.
AMD Radeon HD 8250: Integrierte Grafikeinheit der AMD A6-1450 APU ("Temash"). Basiert auf der GCN-Architektur, integriert 128 Shadereinheiten und taktet mit 300 - 400 MHz.
Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen. Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.
