While running down the list of components and specs would make the Origin EON17-SLX (2014) look like simply a refresh of last year's model, the new iteration gets more than a new coat of paint, thanks to an Intel Extreme Core i7 processor and dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M GPUs. While the separated touchpad and mouse buttons is a tad off-putting, and the battery life is short (even among short-lived gaming systems), there's no denying the appeal of raw power. With the Origin EON17-SLX outpacing the Alienware 18 with better numbers both in raw performance and gaming, as well as coming in for roughly $800 less, the Origin EON17-SLX handily claims the title of Editors' Choice for high-end gaming laptops.

As I tend to say during these types of extremely high cost system reviews, this setup isn't for everyone (and, in fact, it isn't for most). A $4,500 gaming notebook like this will surely last you for YEARS of PC gaming while still allowing you to be mobile enough to take your EON17-SLX on the road or to LAN parties with ease. Performance was impressive, not just in gaming but in all CPU-based tasks as well - thanks to the Intel Core i7 Haswell processor and the RAID-0 array of SSDs keeping storage snappy. If you can afford it, the ORIGIN PC EON17-SLX gaming notebook will, without a doubt, leave a positive impression on you in nearly every category.

The EON17-SLX, like Origin's loaded Genesis desktop, is not for everyone. It's too heavy and bulky to be carried around for very long or on a regular basis. Its battery life is as perfunctory as a Porsche's back seat. And it's shockingly expensive. Origin's "Haswell" refresh of the EON17-SLX offers awesome SLI graphics performance, great sound, and a nice display.

Every time we think Origin can't top itself with the overpowered bells and whistles, something like the Eon 17 SLX falls into our laps. Its dual Nvidia GPUs delivered the best graphics numbers we've seen this year, and its CPU and SSDs were also among the fastest we've seen. It doesn't hurt that the notebook resembles a sexy sports car, either.

With the excellent current high-end parts available from Intel and Nvidia, and something of a PC gaming renaissance going on right now, it's great time to be a PC gamer. Systems such as the Origin PC EON17-SLX, with powerful processors and battery-draining dual video cards, are a major investment, but they offer an experience beyond the game console.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M SLI: Zwei High-End Grafikkarten der GeForce 700M Serie im SLI Verbund.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
