The ThinkPhone can offer many of the features of a flagship smartphone, but it is inferior to current top models in terms of platform and camera capabilities, while its association with the ThinkPad brand and additional security features make the price of the model quite high. For corporations, this may be justified, as data storage is often worth the extra cost, but it is unlikely to be an argument for ordinary users. Unless they want a smartphone that looks like their ThinkPad. But overall, the ThinkPhone turned out to be an interesting model, and I'll be looking forward to the development of this line.

If you look at ThinkPhone as a business flagship, it's unbeatable. It has everything you need for corporate work - powerful hardware with a good reserve for the future, a great OLED screen that is bright and smooth thanks to a 144Hz refresh rate, a stylish and yet unbreakable body, pure Android and user-friendly proprietary software without frills and excesses, impressive battery life, and a cool data protection system, which is really important for those who work with confidential information. Unfortunately, the ThinkPhone's camera leaves much to be desired. For those who are active on social media, it's not the best option, but for business customers, it doesn't matter much. Otherwise, ThinkPhone is a really cool solution, and probably the best for workflows.

80% Lenovo ThinkPhone Review: My Favorite Motorola Phone in Years
Quelle: CNet Englisch EN→DE
The Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola is a welcome surprise. It's aimed at corporate types with a PC, especially if it's a ThinkPad. I'm not a business executive, nor do I own a PC, and yet after testing it for a few weeks, the ThinkPhone has become my favorite Motorola smartphone in years. And as the Tyler Perry-esque name suggests, the phone is made by Motorola and its parent company, Lenovo. The ThinkPhone has personality, unlike many Motorola phones in the past few years. It's more than just a bunch of tech specs voted on by marketing research participants and packaged together at a low price. And with phones, like dogs and pigs, personality goes a long way. The ThinkPhone is reminiscent of 2017-20 era Motorola designs that made me appreciate how much value a Moto phone can pack compared to devices from Google, Samsung and, at the time, LG.

80% Motorola ThinkPhone review: It's worth thinking about

The evolution of flagship smartphones has converged on a proven formula: a metal frame, a big glass panel on the back with a few camera cutouts, and a big glass screen on the other. There’s nothing wrong with this, but it can be a little yawn-inducing. The Motorola ThinkPhone has a different vibe thanks to its ThinkPad roots. Add to that tremendously stable software and useful Windows integrations, and you have a phone that largely lives up to the proud tradition of the ThinkPad. While it’s not fully ruggedized, Motorola touts MIL-STD-810H compliance. There’s no established standard for that term, so it’s up to companies to test as they see fit. That said, the ThinkPhone has held up well, with no visible damage to the Aramid fiber back. The screen and aluminum frame are also flawless.

The Motorola ThinkPhone is a capable phone that is easy to like. It charges fairly quickly, feels fast, is a middle-of-the-road size and comes with a quality case that hardly adds to the phone’s bulk. However, it doesn’t really do enough to justify its high price for the average buyer, over alternatives like the OnePlus 11, Google Pixel 7 and Xiaomi 13. There’s nothing wrong with the ThinkPhone, other than that it probably makes more sense for businesses than individuals. Unless you are just gagging for something to pair with your Lenovo ThinkPad laptop.

If you’re considering the ThinkPhone, you’re probably a ThinkPad devotee, a buyer for your company’s IT department, or just a curious Android owner looking for something outside of the Google and Samsung options. I will happily recommend the ThinkPhone to people in those first two categories, but it’s not the best option for just anyone outside of that circle. Motorola and Lenovo know this, too, since it’s not being sold to compete with the mainstream Android flagships. It has a lot of the right ingredients for a competitive high-end phone but not quite everything. The Google Pixel 7 gets you a much better camera system plus an extra year of security updates for an MSRP of $599. The ThinkPhone has a nicer, bigger screen, but personally, I’d take a better camera and keep the extra $100 in my pocket. Instead of an unexpected Samsung killer, I think what we have here is a very good phone for a small niche and an indicator of good things to come if Motorola continues down this path. I hope that’s the plan.

Motorola does right by parent company Lenovo's storied Think brand. The Motorola ThinkPhone is an excellent effort that covers lots of bases. It's an incredibly tough device despite its appealingly slim design, with a competitive screen, outstanding amounts of horsepower, battery life to spare, top-notch network connectivity, and all the work tools you need to get the job done day in and out. Perhaps the only real setback is the average camera stack. The phone's $699 is unexpectedly affordable, though it won't be sold by carriers that offer monthly payment plans. With that in mind, we continue to recommend the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to most people for its premium design, outstanding display, S Pen stylus, and class-leading cameras. But for business professionals, the ThinkPhone certainly does give you something to think about.

For $700, you can do a lot worse than the ThinkPhone. It's not perfect by any means, but it gets most of the basics right. Long-lasting battery life paired with excellent performance, a quality OLED panel that looks good indoors and out, and a solid design that feels good in the hand while avoiding some of the most frustrating modern design trends on the market — it feels like a complete package. If Motorola can stick to its word on security updates, this device represents another exciting entry in the budget flagship space. Depending on your priorities, Google and OnePlus might offer better experiences for similar amounts of money. But, with the exception of low-light photography, the ThinkPhone manages to go head to head with its similarly-priced competition, and frankly, that's not something I saw coming. After all, I certainly didn't think that borrowing Lenovo's most popular PC brand would result in one of my favorite Motorola phones in years.

Quelle: Android Central Englisch EN→DE
At $699, the ThinkPhone is a phenomenal phone for a phenomenal price, especially considering the price you'll likely get through business channels. This is the best phone Motorola has made even at the unlocked price since the Z series. It checks all the right boxes and not only feels like a good value, and it's generally an excellent phone for the price. Everything from haptics to the IP rating, the processor inside, the tie-ins with Motorola's excellent Ready For software, and that Red Key are all great features that are worth having for any Windows PC user. I've also found that the PWM polling rate of the screen is high enough not to trigger my PWM sensitivity, making this one of the few modern OLED phones that don't hurt my eyes or make me nauseous. You could get a Samsung Galaxy A54 for cheaper and just use the Link to Windows software to achieve most of the same results as this phone but you'll be missing out on the wireless desktop interface of the ThinkPhone or a more expensive Samsung Galaxy S phone. All said and done, I love what Motorola built here and highly recommend it as a great companion to a ThinkPad PC.

Let me make this clear: There is nothing wrong with the Motorola ThinkPhone. It’s a perfectly serviceable, durable smartphone with two-day battery life and a nostalgic design nod to a popular laptop line. But that’s all it is. The few cute ThinkPad design elements just aren’t enough to make it desirable to many outside of the die-hard IBM fan base. Everyone else will get far more from the OnePlus 11 or the Galaxy S23, and each will last longer too. Exactly why Motorola has gone back on its original announcement that the ThinkPhone would only be a business phone isn’t known, but the push was a new move for the company, and this sudden switch may mean Motorola’s B2B aspirations are taking a while to take off. This is speculation, but if the ThinkPhone hasn’t excited the business world — where it actually makes good sense with its durable body, long battery life, great call quality, and robust security options — I’m not sure it has what it takes to excite the consumer world either. If you’ve long dreamed of a ThinkPad-inspired smartphone, or want a phone that an informed few will think you’re being forced to use by your company, the ThinkPhone is for you. For everyone else, it’ll be wiser to buy a smartphone designed expressly for you as a consumer, not one made to kick-start a brand’s business aspirations.

ThinkPhone by Motorola is aimed at business people who want to smoothly integrate their work phone and Windows computer workflow, especially if they want to match the look of their Thinkpad laptop. However it’s also worth a look for many other people who want a good Android smartphone that’s tough, has practical features which make digital life easier and doesn’t cost $1500.00 – $2000.00 and up. ThinkPhone is available in Carbon Black at JB Hi-Fi and Lenovo.com.au for $999.00 and I think it’s great value for money.

There’s a lot to like about the Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola, just as a handset alone. It has impressive multimedia credentials but, if that’s your primary concern, then you might find better options elsewhere. Yet whether the ThinkPhone is right for you will probably depend on how much value you’d get out of the advanced security and tight Ready For desktop integration. Ready For is great when working with your smartphone and tablet side-by-side, reducing the need to switch your attention between devices. But the practicality of using the mobile desktop is another question. With the increased portability of notebooks, the rise of tablets, the power of the cloud and the vast improvement in the mobile versions of desktop applications, you’d have to decide for yourself how often you’d consider the phone’s Windows-esque mobile desktop as the best tool for the task at hand. Some people will have specific use cases, but for most people, the mobile desktop wouldn’t be useful very often.

Objectively, the Motorola ThinkPhone is a stunning device in almost every area. The display is amazing—bright, color-accurate, and super-smooth, thanks to the 144Hz refresh rate. The chipset is very powerful, albeit not the latest one Qualcomm has to offer, and the battery life is very solid. You're getting fast charging (68W) with a charger in the box, a sturdy design (military-grade drop protection without a case!), and some super nice software features. The letdown is the camera system, which displays weird focusing issues and, even if we don't take those into account, is nothing to write home about.

It is pretty hard to properly describe the ThinkPhone in all of its nuances. One thing is certain, it is not your run-of-the-mill smartphone, but a unique and very particular product, both in its essence and intent. Although you can technically buy one as an end user, the ThinkPhone is, first and foremost, a business-to-business enterprise product. Corporate criteria, requirements, contracts and services work a bit differently than what we are used to on the open market. Hence, judging the actual value of the ThinkPhone and its pricing competitiveness is a tough task. There is definitely a lot to love about the ThinkPhone, starting with its exceptional build, which includes aluminum, aramid fiber and Gorilla Glass Victus. Together earning the phone an IP68 and MIL-STD-810H rating. Though highly subjective, the ThinkPhone looks gorgeous in our book as well. Its overall design is iconic and exudes plenty of high-level corporate charm. The ThinkPhone also offers an excellent all-around display with great performance and dynamic and cohesive high refresh rate handling. Also, great battery life and decently fast charging. However, the real cherry on top of it all has to be the clean Android OS imbued with plenty of additional features like the "ready for" platform, courtesy of Motorola and some advanced security, onboarding and remote management features. The kind of stuff that will make the corporate IT department happy. The ThinkPhone is far from perfect, though. Its camera setup, in particular, left us wanting. Same for the stereo speaker setup. At EUR 1000, we frankly find it hard to justify the ThinkPhone as an end-user purchase on the current open market. It just falls short in a few important areas. That being said, if you end up with one through your work or are looking to purchase a fleet of devices for your business, the ThinkPhone might be a viable option under the right circumstances.

For now, the Motorola ThinkPhone is not available for normal users, and it’s more likely to stay the same because the smartphone is designed for business. The phone is focused on promoting the Think 2 Think ecosystem so that the employee can stay connected even in a work-from-home condition to provide better responses. Aside from this, the sturdily built quality definitely set the bar high in the first impression. Plus, the performance end can manage the workload precisely. On the other hand, you can purchase this phone if you are looking for a robust phone with better protection from the official website or Amazon. Lastly, if you are looking for an alternative phone on less budget, you can check the ZTE Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro Plus smartphone, which comes with the same chipset performance.

Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola initial review: Getting down to business
Quelle: Pocket Lint Englisch EN→DE
The Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola offers a great range of specs: this isn't just a stock phone for business, there's actually some substance here. From the solid build with impressive protection through to the smart features for seamless working with your laptop, there's plenty to consider. The hardware loadout places this phone as pretty much a flagship device from late 2022, although the camera is likely to be the weakest link when compared to bone fide consumer devices. Still, for many the ThinkPhone will be a novelty, a fun device that captures some of the spirit of the ThinkPad in phone form - and it's unlikely to be something you'll be looking to buy.

This app syncs your ThinkPhone’s clipboard with your PC’s, enables 1-click hotspot sharing, lets you use the handset as a webcam, and automatically puts the last picture you shot with your phone on your PC’s clipboard. In addition, the ThinkPhone offers enterprise-centric features like a separate Moto KeySafe security chip, and an app called Moto Secure that allows IT departments to remotely manage the ThinkPhone. Neither Lenovo nor Motorola have announced pricing yet, but the ThinkPhone is expected to launch globally (and in the US) “in the next few months”. Overall, this is an interesting device with specs that match or surpass Moto’s best smartphones. I expect it to be popular with IT managers and ThinkPad fans alike. There’s only one thing missing here: a notification LED above the “i” in ThinkPhone. Lenovo, Moto, are you listening?
