Despite its bland, under-protected, all-plastic build, the Motorola Edge (2022) is one of the brand's sharpest and most value-packed Edge series offerings to date. Bolstered by long-overdue improvements to its software update policy and killer battery life, the 2022 Edge might find a new audience closer to the mid-range, though the full-priced unlocked model's appeal is dulled by ultra-competitive rivals.

The biggest concern about the Motorola Edge 2022 is definitely its new chipset as it falls behind in competition performance. Aside from this, other aspects of this smartphone are not that underwhelming since you are getting everything that generally a user demands from a flagship killer phone. Though the company does compromise with hardware, it doesn’t give a major impact on day-to-day usage. Furthermore, it’s the best deal that will provide a near-stock android experience. We would suggest you go with this phone if it’s available in your country. But if you prefer Pixel phones, then we suggest you look for the Google Pixel 6, which has better camera quality and the latest android perks. Finally, choose a device that meets your expectations.

The Motorola Edge 2022 may not have one specific feature that stands out and makes it better than the competition, but it’s definitely one of my favorite mid-range devices I’ve used this year. As mentioned at the very beginning, the only real negative here is the build materials of the phone. While Motorola’s list price of $600 may be a bit higher than some competing devices, it’s pretty easy to find a $100 discount on the unlocked and carrier-specific models as well. If you’re in the US, the only real competition is the Google Pixel 6a and the Samsung Galaxy A53. Personally, I’d spend my money on the Pixel, but the Motorola Edge 2022 is still a great alternative that may be better suited for someone who needs better battery life, wireless charging or simply doesn’t want to deal with some of the software issues Google’s phones have faced over the past year.

The new Edge (2022) is better than its predecessor and has its strengths in the display and battery departments. However, the camera system is once again average at best. The fact that you’re stuck with only one color and storage option for this phone is also a bit concerning. You can get this device with 256GB of storage only, which is great, but many people could’ve preferred having less storage at a lower price. The European Motorola Edge 30 has a better camera system and a more stylish design for the same price. It also has a more powerful processor, which means the US market is once again getting the worse phone. Still, if you get the Edge (2022) phone with a nice discount, it should make for a good phone to have, especially if you’re not the type to take pictures often. The battery life of this phone is amazing, and its vivid screen will provide you with a great gaming experience.

As I noted at the top of this review, the Motorola Edge (2022) wasn’t a phone on my radar at all, and I think that goes for most people. But after using it and seeing everything it brings to the table, I’ve come away eager to recommend it. Like with most phones, that recommendation comes with a couple of caveats. If you want a phone with excellent cameras, a more premium design, and something a bit easier on the wallet, the $449 Pixel 6a remains a fantastic device. The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is also great, delivering better cameras and a more reliable IP67 water resistance rating. This is also all under the assumption you’re getting the Motorola Edge (2022) for $499. At that price, the phone is an excellent deal. But if Motorola’s asking you to pay the $599 price it’ll eventually shoot up to, you’re getting into the territory of handsets like the Pixel 6 and Galaxy S22. Those caveats aside, the Motorola Edge (2022) is the most positive I’ve been about a Motorola phone in years. It’s fast, lasts forever, has features like NFC and wireless charging,...

The Motorola Edge would be a standout in its class if it weren’t for the Pixel 6 standing right over its shoulder. The Pixel 6 is the same price as the 256GB Edge at $599, albeit with less storage, but it covers the core competencies a little better. It includes Google’s flagship chipset, Tensor, and it’s IP68-rated, slated for five years of security updates, and comes with a more capable camera. The Edge does have a bigger screen, which a lot of people prefer (I don’t), with a faster top refresh rate than the 6’s 90Hz panel. For my money, the Pixel 6 feels like a safer bet. You could even save a little money and opt for the Pixel 6A, which also includes Tensor, a robust IP67 rating, and the same five-year software support as the Pixel 6 for $450. Its screen is much smaller at 6.1 inches, The OnePlus 10T is also in the mix. It’s a little pricier at $649, but it gets you one of the very best chipsets you’ll find on an Android phone: the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. There’s also extremely fast 125W wired charging, which might be worth the extra money for people who need to recharge quickly during the day.

Motorola is launching the Edge (2022) for a special introductory price of $498 through T-Mobile, or preorder for $499 at Best Buy, Amazon, and Motorola's website. For a limited time, you can get a Moto Edge free from T-Mobile with a new line activation. So this is a great phone that you should absolutely buy right? By itself, this is a pretty solid deal. Sadly for easy conclusions, this phone doesn't exist in a vacuum. As I mentioned in my Pixel 6A vs. Moto Edge (2022) camera shootout, these phones sit about $50 apart from each other. The Pixel 6A gives you a great camera, amazing computational photography features, a flagship level processor, and great battery life for $50 less. That's not nothing. You get better software support from Google, but you get better software from Motorola. Plus, you get the 144 Hz refresh rate and wireless charging with the Moto Edge (2022). In my humble opinion, these extras are enough to give Motorola the edge (pun a little intended). While this phone can't compete with higher-end phones, that's not really Motorola's jam any more.

Motorola's 2022 Moto Edge is a quality Android smartphone that holds its own against the Pixel 6 and OnePlus 10T with solid performance, long battery life, and a slick design. It also costs less than its predecessor, which is nice to see since the price of high-end flagships is more apt to go up than down. Average cameras, however, and a lackluster water-resistance rating hold the phone back slightly, leaving the Pixel 6 in the lead as our Editors' Choice winner, with the OnePlus 10T coming close behind. And if you're willing to leave Android behind, the iPhone 12 ($599.99) remains a strong option, though the iPhone 13 might drop to the same price soon after iPhone 14 announcement.

Motorola's Edge is a nice phone for $500, and it manages to offer some benefits other bargain phones don't. It's super-light for a phone with such a large screen, and it doesn't skimp on battery to shave weight. If you want a phone that looks bright and feels great, especially if you stare at your screen all day long, the Motorola Edge (2022) is a fine phone to consider.

It might look like every underwhelming phone from Motorola's lineup over the past two years, but the Motorola Edge (2022) breaks the mold with a great experience and superb, minimalist software. It's also the first Motorola phone to get the promise of three major Android OS updates and four years of security updates. This is a huge step in the right direction for Motorola, even if the gaming performance and camera quality could use some work.

Motorola Edge (2022) smartphone was launched in August 2022 and comes with some really apt specs in the upper mid-range segment. In terms of specs, it sports 6.6 inches Full HD+ OLED panel with 1B colors, 144Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ support. For security concerns, it provides an Under display fingerprint scanner. Under the hood, it helms a 6nm – MediaTek Dimensity 1050 chipset on the board, with the Arm Mali-G610 MC3 graphics set and Octa-core processing unit. For storage, the device is available in 8GB RAM with 256GB internal storage. The Motorola Edge (2022) equips a triple-rear camera with a 50MP primary camera, 13MP ultrawide, and a 2MP depth lens. Besides this, you get a 32MP selfie camera on the phone. The back camera can record 4K videos at 30 frames per second, while the selfie camera can record 1080p videos at 30fps. The phone is powered by a Li-Po 5000 mAh battery and has 30W fast charging, 5W reverse, and 15W wireless charging support. The smartphone is available in single Grey colors.

Let’s be honest, when Motorola invited us to a mid-August phone launch, we were hoping to see the Motorola Razr 2022, Motorola’s exciting new flagship that has been announced -- so far -- only for the Chinese market. Instead, we saw the newest version of the Motorola Edge: a flat, mid-range Android that won’t turn heads like it's folding cousin, but is obviously a much more sensible phone, especially for today’s market. Instead of giving us a $1,000 flagship, a successor to the Motorola Edge Plus perhaps, Motorola showed off a fancy new smartphone that costs less than half that price. The company says it has listened to customers, a common refrain among manufacturers, but we spot some sensible choices. The new Moto sacrifices some camera power but keeps the huge 5,000mAh battery from the older flagship, for instance. There are some sacrifices, but all around it feels like Moto is delivering most of what made the Edge Plus interesting.
