When it comes down to it, the Microsoft Surface Go 3 is all about portability, it’s a compact computer as well as a tablet. Running Windows 11 means there’s nothing you can’t do, although the underwhelming performance might limit how fast you can do certain tasks while the battery life might limit how long for. For casual work and play, the Microsoft Surface Go 3 will do a perfectly fine job, the screen is bright and sharp, the webcam is clear enough and the speakers are pretty decent too. If you were to pick up one of these, you would probably need to buy the extra Signature Type Cover at the very least, because that will allow you to type much more easily and there’s a mouse pad on it too. You could also consider the Surface Pen stylus if you think you would make use of that.

The entry-level Surface Go 3 is cheap, lovely to look at but rather pointless. Pick the most expensive model and add the essential accessories and it becomes expensive but only slightly less pointless. The fact is that the processors Microsoft is using in the Go 3 machines are simply not powerful enough to give an even remotely satisfying user experience beyond basic computing activities. If you must have a Surface Go 3, make sure you get the Core i3 version, but better yet, buy an iPad, a decent Android tablet or a regular compact laptop with a touchscreen instead.

While the physical experience may be similar to an Android or iOS-based tablet, you’re getting the full Windows 11 operating system which makes using it feel like a strange middle ground between a full laptop and a tablet. In more powerful models like the Surface Pro 8, having fewer limitations on what applications can be run through a tablet design is extremely beneficial, but in the case of the Surface Go 3, most configurations are too underpowered to fully utilise the benefits. As such, we can’t imagine the Surface Go 3 rivalling anything. It retains some of the charm that made us fall in love with beefier Microsoft products like the Surface 7 Pro, but the entry-level model is so woefully underpowered that it’s almost unfit for purpose and the pricier configurations don’t offer much beyond that. If you need to run several applications at once and love the Surface range, it would be worth your time to instead invest in the Surface Pro 8 or even a capable Chromebook like the Acer Chromebook 714.

The Surface Go 3 from Microsoft is a perfect modern-day 2-in-1 solution. The overall package should appeal to users whose work revolves around browsing, streaming, typing a few emails, and travelling. The Surface Go 3 beats almost any rival when it comes to being portable. The best part is it can turn into a full-fledged laptop with tablet portability. At Rs 57,999, the Surface Go 3 is an excellent option for school kids who have to attend online classes or young professionals who do not want heavy-duty laptops. However, to turn it into laptop mode, you will need to buy the Surface Go Signature Type Cover separately, which takes the final price of around Rs 70,000. Considering the iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard costs around Rs 1 lakh, the Surface Go 3 should not look like a pricey proposition by any standard. Additionally, it can be your default Windows machine for light work.

The Surface Go 3 is a good Windows tablet or rather hybrid device. It’s easy to carry, delivers reasonably good performance for most day-to-day tasks. The Surface Go 3 comes with a starting price tag of Rs 57,999 and that’s frankly a lot of money for a tablet that doesn’t boast of impressive specs. And that’s not including the keyboard cover (starts at Rs 10,590) and the Surface Pen (Rs 9,099). Microsoft will have a hard time selling this as a value proposition for most buyers who want to do routine tasks on their personal computing device. If you really want a tablet that isn’t an iPad or an Android also-ran then the Surface Go 3 is the one to go for.

At a price of S$848, the Surface Go 3 (Intel Pentium 6500Y w 8GB RAM & 128GB SSD) is considered to be an affordable PC to own. It’s versatility and all-rounded features make it a unique product that works well regardless of what you are using it for. Particularly, I find the Surface Go 3 to be well suited for students and journalists who will appreciate the product’s portability and stylus support. However, I do feel that the battery life still falls short as compared to what’s available in the market. You pay for what you get. The Surface Go 3 may not meet the mark for many in terms of performance, but its attractive price point would attract consumers who simply don’t need that kind of performance level. Thankfully, Microsoft also has the Surface Pro to cater for those who seek more.

The Microsoft Surface Go 3 might be the company's most affordable 2-in-1 Windows tablet, but Rs. 57,999 is a lot of money. One argument that often comes up is that you could get way better specifications in a standard laptop at the same price, which is true, but you can't use them comfortably as tablets. The variant I tested was adequate in terms of performance. It also has a bright display, good speakers, a high-quality webcam, and solid build quality. Battery life is a little weak, and the accessories that most people will want are relatively expensive. If you add a stylus and keyboard, the Surface Go 3 will cost nearly Rs. 80,000, at which point the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i seems like it could be a much more attractive deal. It has better specs, making it more of a Surface Pro competitor, and what's more, the keyboard and stylus are included. The Microsoft Surface Go 3 is a very good little tablet with the potential to be a 2-in-1, but its average battery life and the total cost of the whole package will deter a lot of people from taking the plunge.

Overall, I feel the Surface Go 3 is a good device though not exceptional. Sure, I get that Microsoft is charging a premium for the Surface Go 3 (the cost drastically increases when you include the accessories). The Go 3 is a wonderful little computer that could have been great if it had a different processor powering it. I can only highlight the cons of the device through my reviews but this device needs a different processor and I think Microsoft also knows it. The competition is getting tough for Microsoft, because on one hand, the iPad is getting more powerful for doing real-world computing things and creative tasks, and on the other hand, Chromebooks are fine for basic tasks that are enough for a workday.

Whether or not the Surface Go 3 is good really comes down to your needs. People with a lot of light usage, like browsing the web, watching media and doing some word processing will likely get a lot out of the Surface Go 3. However, for anything more demanding, the Surface Go 3 just doesn’t make sense. Ultimately, I think the Go 3 is almost the exact opposite of Apple’s iPads. Despite Apple’s best marketing attempts, the iPad is not a computer. It’s a great tablet that can sometimes be a mediocre laptop. The Surface Go 3, on the other hand, is an okay laptop that can sometimes be a mediocre tablet. I think the big thing holding back the Go 3 are the CPU and software. If a future Surface Go device ran on something as powerful and efficient as Apple’s A- or M-series chips, it’d be a much more compelling option. And if Windows 11 eventually becomes a top-notch tablet OS, that would help a bunch too.

As the baby of Microsoft's Surface range, the Go 3 is inevitably the least powerful device of the family. But to the point that it barely earns its Surface stripes, really, with lacklustre performance overall and limited battery life. Add the lack of any advancement in its design - the same big bezel and a repeat of the ports available as per the previous Go 2 - and we're at odds as to why the Go 3 was pushed out to release. Perhaps it's largely to represent Windows 11 - and we must say the ability to install executable files, unlike Windows 10 S from before, is great - but even that can be shown in better light on more advanced devices. So while the Go 3 is a super-portable machine for getting bits and pieces done while on the go, it's just not adept enough to challenge Apple's iPad range on the one hand, while a decent Chromebook would be preferable on the other.

The Surface Go 3 felt like a device that needed some attention to fend off the competition, but Microsoft has made only minor changes. Moving to an Intel Core i3 processor does deliver a useful performance boost, but it seems to be at the cost of battery life. Windows 11 is also now pre-installed, but aside from that it’s the same device we saw in 2020. It means the premium build quality and great video calling features are retained, but the design is beginning to look dated. The display remains a highlight despite being only 60Hz, but the Go 3 really needs more ports. Charging is frustrating and the additional cost of accessories can soon mount up. Unfortunately, it just feels like there are too many compromises on the Surface Go 3 to recommend it. If you’re specifically looking for a small Windows tablet you probably won’t be disappointed, but plenty of other devices deliver a better 2-in-1 experience.

The Microsoft Surface Go 3 is a bit like an iPad dressed up in a business suit. Some long for the days an iPad will be able to run exactly the same desktop-grade apps as their MacBooks, and the Surface series has offered that – but with Windows — for years. It’s a shame this year doesn’t bring all that much of a performance improvement, which is glaring when all iPads are more powerful and Intel standard laptop processors have become loads faster for graphics in the same window. Even if you buy the top-end Microsoft Surface Go 3, it’s only really suitable for the basics. But does this matter? The Microsoft Surface Go 3 is an entry-level machine, right? Sure. But when you factor in the keyboard you end up paying £670-700. It isn’t pocket change. If you don’t want to run Photoshop, edit video, play top games released after 2012 or type long essays every day, there’s a lot to like in the Microsoft Surface Go 3. The design hasn’t changed much but it’s still ultra-practical, the webcam flat-out embarrasses those of just about every laptop.

At some point we may ask our colleagues at Macworld to help compare the iPad, the Surface Go 3, and an Android tablet. For now, we're comfortable in advising you to select whatever OS suits your fancy. You probably shouldn't be choosing a Surface Go 3 — or an iPad — for performance, but for the convenience and portability factor. There's a reason you'll often see Microsoft's Surface Go 3 accompanied by photos of kids and business travelers — this is very much a niche product, no pun intended. There's an unexpected secondary option, too. We wouldn't necessarily recommend the Surface Go 2 over the newest Surface Go 3, but we can see why you might consider it. With comparable performance plus an available LTE consumer option (plus Windows 10, if you prefer the older operating system) an older, discounted Surface Go 2 might offer more value. Officially, the MSRP for both the Go 2 and Go 3 are about the same.

The Surface Go 3 has seen minor improvements since its predecessor, with a CPU upgrade and Windows 11 improving the tablet experience. But there’s little here to make it more tempting than Apple’s iPad, especially once you factor in the poor battery life and mediocre specs.

Like the previous models, the Surface Go 3 shines as a portable device: it's perfect for working on an airplane tray table or a crowded train, and for throwing in a backpack or the kitbag in the back of a vehicle. However, battery life seems to have regressed either because of the new Core i3 CPU or Windows 11. The high-quality 220ppi PixelSense screen makes watching videos fun, and the speakers and webcam make for excellent video calls in Teams. But you'll definitely want to pick the higher-spec Core i3 model, and unless you're a Windows 11 fan or really need a particular Android app, Windows 10 might be the better choice until more of the kinks are ironed out.

The Surface Go 3 is what it is – an incremental refresh of the Surface Go 2. As long as you understand that it’s a 10.5” pocketable Windows PC, you will be fine. It is also a great content consumption device. I am a little concerned about the variable battery life; still, the ability to use a USB-C power bank to top up on the move is a bonus. Hint: Buy the 8/128GB version (either processor) if you want to do any productivity work.

The Microsoft Surface Go 3 makes the Surface Go 2 look like a fluke. Just like the original Surface Go, the new model's battery life disappoints. Its performance is also troublesome, and will be a let-down for multitaskers. As this Microsoft Surface Go 3 review has shown, you might want to check out the Surface Go 2 if you want a tablet that can become a laptop with attachable keyboard. Its performance is just as good in general every-day stuff, and its battery life is much longer. The Surface Go 2 is available at the same price as the Surface Go 3, and it also supports Windows 11 (I just checked in the PC Health Check app). Want faster performance and longer battery life? If you're not tied to the wide world of Windows, the iPad Air with its Magic Keyboard for $898. Admittedly, that's about $140 more than the i3 Surface Go 3 with the Alcantara keyboard. Want to save a lot, but still get a tablet that can become a laptop, with great battery life? The Lenovo Chromebook Duet is just $299, and its keyboard comes standard.

The Microsoft Surface Go 3 is a wonderfully designed laptop at first glance, but the moment you press the power button, the charm goes away. It’s fast enough for casual web browsing or Netflix marathons, but so are many other devices that are much cheaper than the $629 model we tested. Those cheaper devices also have significantly better battery life. The Surface Go 3 does have some charm thanks to its lush aesthetics, awesome display, and Windows 11. It’s fine for casual use, too. However, “fine” is not good enough against the competition. Whether you have a thousand dollars or under five hundred dollars, you have better options than the Surface Go 3.

Last year, I said the Surface Go 2 was easy to love and hard to live with. And despite everything, there are times I really do love using the Surface Go 3. There is something wonderful about having such a tiny, light device that theoretically can do anything a bigger Windows computer can do — albeit more slowly. Unless having a tiny Windows tablet is an absolute necessity, there are better options. If you don’t need Windows, ChromeOS and iPad devices can be this small and last longer on a charge. If you do need Windows, there are plenty of computers that are just slightly larger but offer way better value. In fact, at this price I’d recommend tracking down a used or refurbished Surface Pro.

The Surface Go 3 might be the most affordable Surface product, but the low power, short battery life and thick bezels expose why it’s so cheap. It does have the best webcam at this price, which means it’s a great choice for anyone that has a lot of video calls. But most people will be better served by a Chromebook.

The Microsoft Surface Go 3 left me with more questions than answers. How do you go from the Go 2’s 11-hour battery life to less than 7 hours? Why are you using an underpowered 10th Gen Core i3 CPU? Why is your other CPU option a Pentium? The things I do like about the Surface Go 3 are its bright and colorful display, and the Surface Pen, though it will set you back an additional $99. If you want to use it as a laptop, then you have to shell out another $129 for the Surface Go Type Cover. When you add it all up, our review unit would cost more than $850 with those accessories. At that price, it is an underpowered, underwhelming 2-in-1 that can’t compete with the Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE. Heck, for $299, you can buy a Lenovo Chromebook Duet and do everything you were hoping to do on the Surface Go 3.

Microsoft’s Surface Go 3 is the best budget Windows 2-in-1 tablet, but its performance and value are a bit below expectations for a third-generation product that competes against Chromebooks and the Apple iPad. Although it runs Windows 11 and can be used with an optional keyboard, the Microsoft Surface Go 3 is a tablet designed to compete with Chromebooks and the Apple iPad, not traditional laptops. A compelling starting price of $399.99, coupled with the refined styling and high-quality construction we’ve come to expect from the Surface product family, make this the best inexpensive Windows-powered 2-in-1 tablet you can buy. But with few improvements over its predecessor and computing performance that remains lackluster, the Surface Go 3 is also a slightly disappointing third-generation revision to Microsoft’s most affordable tablet, given the advances we're seeing on other platforms. Plus, our Core i3-based tester comes in at $629.99, and that's without Microsoft's compatible keyboard accessory, which adds at least another Benjamin.

Probably the biggest issue with the Surface Go 3 is that nothing has significantly changed since Microsoft released the Go 2 almost a year and a half ago. The design is still good, but performance and battery life are essentially unchanged, despite the new chip. I can’t recommend that anyone get a Surface Go 3 with the Pentium Gold processor; it feels like the low-end model exists only so Microsoft can say it sells a $400 tablet. Just like its predecessors, the Surface Go 3 can be a pretty useful tiny Windows device, though you’re paying a premium for the portability. And the price for performance ration is seriously out of whack. If you’re a Windows fan, it'a decent option as a secondary device for casual work and for when you want something extremely portable. There aren’t a lot of comparable Windows devices out there, and the hardware’s design and built quality remains outstanding. Just make sure you buy the Type Cover, don’t expect much from tablet mode and be patient if you’re running a lot of apps.
