Ich begleite seit Jahren die Surface Reihe von Microsoft und das Surface Book ist für mich das bisher gelungenste Gerät der Reihe. Microsoft schafft es hier, ein einzigartiges Gerät abzuliefern. Die 3:2 Displayauflösung ist eine Offenbarung für die eigene Produktivität, das Design ist eigenwillig, aber gelungen und die Performance ist (vor allem für ein so dünnes Gerät) über jeden Zweifel erhaben.

Hinsichtlich der Leistung gibt es ebenfalls keinen Anlass zur Kritik, insbesondere, wenn die integrierte GeForce 940M genutzt wird.

Das günstigste Modell kostet 1649 Euro und verfügt über 128 Gigabyte Speicher, einen Intel Core i5, eine HD-Grafikchip von Intel und acht Gigabyte RAM.

Wie beim Surface Pro 4, bietet Microsoft das Surface Book nicht optional mit LTE an - schade. Bei unserem Test gab es einen "Bluescreen" direkt beim ersten Abkoppeln des Tablet-PCs, nach dem Update lief das System aber stabil. In den vier Testtagen konnten wir keine weiteren Abstürze verzeichnen.

Warum Microsoft seinem neuen Spitzen-Notebook keinen Netzwerkanschluss spendiert, obwohl das auch bei der schlanken Bauweise möglich wäre, ist eines der größten Rätsel für mich. Noch seltsamer ist nur die fehlende Anzeige für den Ladestand außen am Gerät. Ich will so etwas definitiv haben, es muss ja nicht gleich so schick sein wie die grünen Balken beim Pixel C.

But, just like we saw with the Surface tablets, it’s going to take at least one more revision before Microsoft completely nails the design. Even now, it is tantalisingly close to my idea of a perfect Windows laptop, but on a device this good, the flaws stick out like a sore thumb. Personally, I’d want Thunderbolt 3, a better GPU, a faster quad-core CPU, and although battery life is superb in laptop mode, I definitely want better battery life from the tablet. I’m a hard task-master.

There’s no doubt that the Microsoft Surface Book is a stunning piece of engineering. As Microsoft’s inaugural laptop that doubles as a tablet, it’s a device the company can be proud of. Modell: Das Microsoft Surface Book packt eine leistungsstarke Spezifikation, zu welcher ein Intel Core i7 Prozessor der sechsten Generation und 16 GB RAM gehören, in ein kompaktes Gerät. Es hat sich erstaunlicherweise in einen ultraschlanken Hochleistungslaptop mit Doppelrolle als vielseitiges Tablet verwandet. Dieses solide und hochwertige 13,5-Zoll-Modell verfügt über einen abnehmbaren Bildschirm und einen präzisen Surface Pen. Der Vollzeit-Laptop wurde fehlerlos für den Einsatz auf der Schoß gestaltet.

Der 13,5-Zoll-Bildschirm mit einer Auflösung von 3000 x 2000 ist etwas ungewöhnlich. Das ergibt ein 3:2-Seitenverhältnis in der Größe von A4-Papier. Daher gibt es eine wunderbare Leinwand für jene, die an einem Projekt arbeiten, Notizen nehmen oder Präsentationen vorbereiten, ab. Im geschlossenen Zustand verfügt dieser schwere Hybride über eine Clamshell ähnliche Form mit einer sichtbaren Spalte zwischen Basiseinheit und Bildschirmdeckel. Das liegt wahrscheinlich am dicken, dynamischen Drehscharnier, welches die Tastatur-Basis eher tiefer drückt, um den Bildschirm so zu unterstützen, dass dieser stabil und aufrecht bleibt. Trotzdem ist das Surface Book ein wundervolles Paket mit Spitzen-Leistung, nützlichen Features und einer durchdachten Akkulaufzeit. Nun geht Microsoft den frechen Schritt und krönt das Surface Book zum "ultimativen Laptop".

Sowohl das Microsoft Surface RT als auch das Surface Pro wurden niemals wirklich groß und konnten nicht mit ihren Android und iOS Gegenstücken mithalten. Die Ursache für die niedrigen Verkaufszahlen lag großteils darin, dass die Tablet-Laptop-Hybrid-Klasse wenig beliebt war. Wichtig ist, dass das Surface Pro 2 ein vollwertiger Laptop, der als Hybride agiert, ist. Zum einem bietet es Windows 8.1 auf einem Intel Core i5-4300U Ultrabook-Prozessor, 8 GB RAM und bis zu 512 GB SSD. Zum anderen sieht so aus wie das erste Model und weist auch die gleichen Abmessungen auf, sodass Zubehör wechselseitig kompatibel ist. Neu gibt es das optionale Type Cover 2, welches eine Hintergrundbeleuchtung ergänzt, jedoch schwer ist und ziemlich teuer.

Das Gute am Surface ist sicherlich seine Ultra-Portabilität und seine unbestreitbare Leistung. Mit seiner Spezifikation, kann es ziemlich wahrscheinlich viele andere ultraportable Laptops und Hybriden übertreffen. Nicht zu vergessen sind auch das vorinstallierte Windows 8.1 und dass es alle notwendigen Schnittstellen an Bord hat, sodass es ein Laptop und nicht nur ein Ersatz ist. Das primäre Ein-/Ausgabegerät, der FullHD-Bildschirm wird von einen mitgelieferten Stylus begleitet. Der Nachteil ist sicher der Verkaufspreis für die Kombination aus Tablet und abnehmbarer Tastatur. Es gibt wahrscheinlich einige ernsthafte Konkurrenten, die fast oder sogar die gleiche Spezifikation zu einem niedrigeren Preis bieten. Sein Kickstand wurde zwar verbessert, ist aber immer noch ein Nachteil, da er nicht bequem auf den Oberschenkeln aufliegt, obwohl es ein Laptop ist. Insgesamt ist das Microsoft Surface Pro 2 ein wertiger Laptop solange das verfügbare Budget kein Problem darstellt.

NVIDIA Maxwell GPU (940M, GDDR5): Notebook-Grafikkarte der Mittelklasse, die auf der Maxwell-Architektur basiert. Wird in 28 Nanometern gefertigt und verfügt über ein 64 Bit GDDR5-Speicherinterface. Anders als die normale GeForce 940M wird die Surface Book GPU mit GDDR5 ausgeliefert und weist leicht veränderte Taktraten auf.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
