Die Geschwindigkeitstests durchlief das Microsoft Surface Book mit Bravour, sogar für Spiele taugt es ... Beim Zocken und bei kräftezehrenden Anwendungen dreht der Lüfter allerdings auf (unter Volllast bis 1,1 Sone), das nervt besonders in ruhigen Umgebungen. Gut dafür: Trotz starkem Prozessor und Display mit 3000 x 2000 Bildpunkten hielt der Akku beim Arbeiten 6 Stunden und 19 Minuten durch – klasse!

Ist es nun das ultimative Notebook? Schwer zu beantworten. Fakt ist, dass die Verarbeitung extrem gut ist, die Leistung je nach Modell für die meisten Anforderungen locker reichen sollte und das Display ist eine Klasse für sich. Dazu kommen Features wie der Surface Pen und Windows Hello, die bisher einmalig sind – mal vom Surface Pro 4 abgesehen.

Die Negativa fallen im Gegenzug zu den Vorzügen sehr überschaubar aus und liegen zum Teil auf sehr hohem Niveau. Der schwerwiegendste Kritikpunkt sind wohl die fehlenden Ports am und der kurze Akku-Atem des Tablets. Dadurch wird das Display ein stückweit vom Produktiv- auf ein Präsentations-Tool reduziert. Auch der hoch gelagerte Schwerpunkt des Displays fällt mir negativ auf, da das Book schnell kippt und das Display gern mal anfängt zu schwingen. Darüber hinaus sind mir persönlich 130 Grad Öffnungswinkel zu wenig. Last but not least erweisen sich die Kameras als eher durchschnittlich.

Den Anspruch, ein ultimatives Laptop zu liefern, erfüllt Microsoft in einigen, aber nicht allen Disziplinen. Windows 10 gehört zweifellos zu den besten Systemen, die Microsoft je programmiert hat, und auf dem Surface Book läuft es absolut flüssig. Das Display und die Tastatur genügen höchsten Ansprüchen. Die Leistung der Hardware reicht für anspruchsvolles Arbeiten und Spiele aus. Kleinere Kritikpunkte sind die nur mittelmäßige SSD, das dauerhafte Rauschen bei hoher Leistung und der Lapsus mit der Ladeanzeige. Auch Microsoft Office hätten wir erwartet, und eine Variante mit LTE wäre wünschenswert.

It's a pricy little laptop, but it really does feel worth it for the practicality and design, as well as its build quality and the addition of the Surface Pen. The hardware design is superb, the hardware configuration is top of the line for this generation, Windows 10 is more than capable of handling the high DPI resolutions and there is no bloatware to deal with on the Surface platforms. Other than the eccentricities of the designs (Type Cover, hinge), price is the only thing that you can really complain about on either the Surface Pro 4 or the Surface Book. If you want flagship Windows notebooks that combine design, style, technology and performance, both the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book are the best you can buy. If I were picking one to keep in my bag going forward, I think the larger screen and discrete GPU option on the Surface Book would make it my selection.

Modell: Das Microsoft Surface Book bringt eine ernsthafte Veränderung. Mit seinem Magnesium-Rahmen sieht es einerseits getarnt aus und ist andererseits solide gebaut, jedoch trotzdem dünn und leicht genug für einen Alltagslaptop und sogar für ein Tablet. Es misst 31,24 x 23,22 x 2,29 cm und wiegt (abhängig von der Konfiguration) zwischen 1,52 kg und bis zu zirka 1,6 kg mit Tastatur. Ein Schlüsselmerkmal des Surface Book ist seine Tastatur in voller Größe mit Hintergrundlicht, welche schnelles und natürliches Tippen ermöglicht. Die Tastatur kann abgenommen werden. Daher bietet das Gerät dem User die Vielseitigkeit eines Tablets. Der durchdachte Muscle-Wire-Scharnier-Mechanismus liefert dem User die Flexibilität von 4 Verwendungsmodi. Im Inneren arbeiten ein Intel Core i5-6300U Dual-Core-Prozessor der sechsten Generation mit entweder 8 GB oder 16 GB RAM. Dieser ist entweder mit einer Intel HD Graphics 520 oder einer Nvidia Geforce Grafikkarte mit 1 GB DDR5 VRAM kombiniert. Diese Art Setup bietet die Leistung, die ein Kraftpaket für kreative Aufgaben benötigt, da der Core i5 es den Usern ermöglicht, Photos mit Adobe Photoshop und Lightroom zu organisieren und zu verbessern. Die Speicheroptionen reichen von PCIe3.0 SSDs mit 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB oder sogar 1 TB Kapazität. In puncto Bildschirm steht ein 13,5 Zoll großes PixelSense Display mit einer Auflösung von 3.000 x 2.000 Pixeln (267 PPI) und 10-Punkt-Multi-Touch-Technologie zur Verfügung.

Der Surface Pen, wahrscheinlich das auffälligste Merkmal dieses Laptop, hebt digitales Schreiben auf ein ganz neues Niveau, da er dem User ein natürliches Skizzieren und Schreiben am Bildschirm ermöglicht. Auch bei verschiedenen Künstler, die finden dass es sich auf diesem Bildschirm sehr genau zeichnen lässt, hat dieses Feature Anklang gefunden. Zudem verfügt das Gerät über eine 1080p, 5 MP Front-Kamera und eine 8 MP Autofokus-Kamera an der Rückseite. Die Frontkamera unterstützt zudem biometrische Authentifizierung via Windows Hello 7 Gesichtserkennung. Aktivierung durch Stimme wird mit dem persönlichen digitalen Assistenten, Cortana, ebenso unterstützt. Diese überwältigenden Technologien heben das Surface Book im Ranking weit über konventionelle Laptops, sogar über sehr hochwertige, hinauf, da viele diese neuen von Windows 10 unterstützten Technologien wegen der dazu notwendigen Zusatzhardware, erst implementieren müssen.

Die Soundqualität ist knackig und klar, das die Stereolautsprecher Dolby Audio Premium nutzen. Netzwerkverbindungen sind sowohl via WiFi als auch via Bluetooth möglich. Die Schnittstellenaustattung des Surface Book besteht aus zwei USB-3.0-Ports in voller Größe, einen SD-Kartenleser in voller Größe, einen SurfaceConnect-Port, eine Headset-Buchse und einen Mini-DisplayPort. Am Surface Book ist die neueste Version von Windows 10 Pro vorinstalliert. Ebenso ist die Akkulaufzeit beeindruckend. Microsoft behauptet, dass bis zu 12 Stunden Videowiedergabe möglich sind.

Insgesamt handelt es sich beim Surface Book um einen leistungsstarken Laptop, der sich dennoch in ein vollwertiges, schlankes Tablet wandeln kann. Alle diese Merkmale machen das Surface Book zu einem soliden Konkurrenten des 13-Zoll MacBook Pro. Der größte Nachteil ist sein sehr hoher Verkaufspreis. Da die i5-Modelle mehr kosten als ein Basismodel des Macbook Pro, hängt eine Entscheidung von Vorlieben vs. Erfordernissen ab. Für jemanden, der eine Tablet-Funktion und einen Touchscreen benötigt, könnte es sich um eine gute Wahl handeln. Doch auch dann stehen am Markt viele andere Convertibles wie beispielsweise das HP Pavilion X2 und das Dell XPS 12 zur Auswahl, die für normale Verwendung gut genug sind.

Sowohl das Microsoft Surface RT als auch das Surface Pro wurden niemals wirklich groß und konnten nicht mit ihren Android und iOS Gegenstücken mithalten. Die Ursache für die niedrigen Verkaufszahlen lag großteils darin, dass die Tablet-Laptop-Hybrid-Klasse wenig beliebt war. Wichtig ist, dass das Surface Pro 2 ein vollwertiger Laptop, der als Hybride agiert, ist. Zum einem bietet es Windows 8.1 auf einem Intel Core i5-4300U Ultrabook-Prozessor, 8 GB RAM und bis zu 512 GB SSD. Zum anderen sieht so aus wie das erste Model und weist auch die gleichen Abmessungen auf, sodass Zubehör wechselseitig kompatibel ist. Neu gibt es das optionale Type Cover 2, welches eine Hintergrundbeleuchtung ergänzt, jedoch schwer ist und ziemlich teuer.

Das Gute am Surface ist sicherlich seine Ultra-Portabilität und seine unbestreitbare Leistung. Mit seiner Spezifikation, kann es ziemlich wahrscheinlich viele andere ultraportable Laptops und Hybriden übertreffen. Nicht zu vergessen sind auch das vorinstallierte Windows 8.1 und dass es alle notwendigen Schnittstellen an Bord hat, sodass es ein Laptop und nicht nur ein Ersatz ist. Das primäre Ein-/Ausgabegerät, der FullHD-Bildschirm wird von einen mitgelieferten Stylus begleitet. Der Nachteil ist sicher der Verkaufspreis für die Kombination aus Tablet und abnehmbarer Tastatur. Es gibt wahrscheinlich einige ernsthafte Konkurrenten, die fast oder sogar die gleiche Spezifikation zu einem niedrigeren Preis bieten. Sein Kickstand wurde zwar verbessert, ist aber immer noch ein Nachteil, da er nicht bequem auf den Oberschenkeln aufliegt, obwohl es ein Laptop ist. Insgesamt ist das Microsoft Surface Pro 2 ein wertiger Laptop solange das verfügbare Budget kein Problem darstellt.

NVIDIA Maxwell GPU (940M, GDDR5): Notebook-Grafikkarte der Mittelklasse, die auf der Maxwell-Architektur basiert. Wird in 28 Nanometern gefertigt und verfügt über ein 64 Bit GDDR5-Speicherinterface. Anders als die normale GeForce 940M wird die Surface Book GPU mit GDDR5 ausgeliefert und weist leicht veränderte Taktraten auf.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
