The Lenovo ThinkPad X13s is a confounding machine, with some great highs and very disappointing lows. To start, it comes with a fantastic webcam that seems perfect for anyone who regularly needs to hop on Zoom calls. The keyboard is as high quality as you would expect and the screen is bright and vibrant enough to enjoy your favourite TV show after work. However, that does not quite make up for its downfalls. The limited port selection does restrict it as a productivity device. Including a Snapdragon chipset means that popular video websites like Netflix are not accessible and overall, it provides a lot less power than its Intel and Apple rivals. If this laptop cost half the price, I think it would be an easy recommendation for students and workers. But as it stands, you could treat yourself to an Apple MacBook or Huawei MateBook for the same price or even less, which, in my opinion, is the main downfall of the ThinkPad X13s.

Overall, the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s is a capable piece of kit and quite a solid addition to the ThinkPad family. As an all-around work laptop, there's a lot to be said about its extremely low weight, small size profile and incredibly quiet fans, which make it a clear contender for any roving tech worker. Impressively, it manages this without sacrificing power, having come in swinging in the benchmarks with a very respectable power score to indicate that it could handily tackle most tasks thrown at it in day-to-day use. Nevertheless, there are a few standout disappointments, such as the low colour accuracy and microphone quality, which hold it back from being a true all-rounder. Work that requires good Adobe colour accuracy is not rare, and microphone quality seems an easy win that was somehow skipped here.

Lenovo ThinkPad X13s Gen 1 review

You see, even though Windows 11 supports ARM SoCs, it still does that by emulating most of the apps. This is why we couldn’t get good scores on the majority of the tests we went through. However, our 3DMark Wild Life Extreme result was better than that of all Intel-based integrated graphics cards. Instead, the ThinkPad X13s Gen 1 is an everyday notebook, that has a fantastic security package, a blazingly fast user experience, one of the best 13.3-inch displays out there, and a camera that will make your pimples pretty visible in conference calls. Add the IR face recognition scanner and the fingerprint reader, and you might, just might, have the laptop of every iPhone and Android user’s dreams.

Lenovo ThinkPad X13s Gen 1 review: Flexing its ARM battery life If you’re a business person that has returned to traveling, the Lenovo X13s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cs Gen 3 will make for an excellent travel companion thanks to its exceptional battery life, 5G connectivity, and ability to meet your daily document-pushing needs. The built-in webcam and 3-mic setup are excellent as well, but from a performance perspective, it is merely average. It truly depends on what your personal and business needs are. If you are a typical business user that needs a laptop to handle a few dozen browser tabs, a handful of productivity apps, and video calling, then the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s has you covered and will outlast any other laptop its size. If you’re like me and occasionally need something a bit more powerful that can edit videos while on the go, you’re sticking with the MacBook Air M2 or a Windows laptop with a discrete GPU. However, if you don’t need that extra power or capabilities, the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s is an easy recommendation.

Lenovo ThinkPad X13s (2022)
Quelle: Reviewed.com Englisch EN→DE
The Lenovo ThinkPad X13s is the perfect Windows laptop for those who need unrivaled portability. The Qualcomm 8cx delivered more than 18 hours of battery life, a class-leading result among Windows laptops in 2022. The X13s is also light, durable, easy to carry, and has optional 4G/5G mobile data. You can pop it open anywhere mobile data is available and immediately get to work. This comes at the cost of performance. The ThinkPad X13s is among the least performant Windows laptops we tested in 2022. It trades blows with the Dell XPS 13 with Intel Core i5-1230U in some benchmarks but loses overall. Apple’s MacBook Air M2 puts it to shame, with nearly four times the processing speed. That’s a problem. The ThinkPad X13s is not an inexpensive laptop, so you’d be right to expect decent performance results, yet the Qualcomm 8cx Gen3 isn’t up to the task. It’s fine for Microsoft Office but falls way behind in more demanding photo, video, and rendering workloads. The Lenovo ThinkPad X13s is a laptop with niche appeal. Those who demand the last word in portability will love it. Everyone else will be better served by a Dell XPS 13 or, if you don’t need Windows, Apple’s MacBook Air M2.

I really like this laptop and the freedom of workspace that it provides, but it is not the laptop for me. After my workday I might want to do some gaming or other activities and this laptop is not going to work with all games given its ARM processor. On top of that both Intel and AMD processors are more optimized for encoding video which I do a decent amount of not only for work, but also making my own personal YouYube videos. I do feel this is the perfect laptop for someone that is always on the go and needs something for Microsoft Office, Zoom calls, e-mail, etc. The basically always on capability of this laptop cannot be understated. The unit we reviewed is going for $1364 right now, which is a good price given the performance of this laptop. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s an 8 out of 10 score.

This laptop begs to ask the question of why you might want Windows 11 if you can’t run all Windows applications. There are some reasons, but there are just as many for running Linux or using a Chromebook. Amazing battery life is available for those willing to embrace this hybrid concept.

I’ve had quite some time with this Thinkpad X13s, but I still have mixed feelings about it. On the positive side, it's excellently built, it offers a good keyboard, and a useful matte touchscreen. It's also a fanless design, thus completely silent, and fairly efficient on battery use. On the other hand, the Snapdragon CPU isn’t as fast as I would like, and Windows on ARM can get sluggish sometimes and is not compatible with all programs.

Review: Lenovo ThinkPad X13s mixes Windows with a Snapdragon processor
Quelle: Talk Android Englisch EN→DE
There’s some very cool stuff going on with the ThinkPad X13s. 5G connectivity, stellar battery life, an incredibly quiet design, and enough functionality to handle (almost) whatever you throw at it make for a very attractive package. But at its expensive price tag, you’re looking at a laptop that was designed for a specific kind of customer, not for everyone. If you always work from home, maybe that 5G connectivity isn’t all that appealing, and you’d trade the 28-hour battery life for something with a more versatile design and more ports. If you’re looking for something as an entertainment machine for streaming and casual gaming, you can win out in performance elsewhere. But it’s hard to find anything else right now that does everything the Thinkpad X13s can do, and that’s where Lenovo’s laptop shines. Plus, if you keep an eye out for discounts, you can snag one for a significant discount from the list price, keeping it much more competitive with similar laptops.

70% Lenovo ThinkPad X13s 5G Review: Is Mobile Speed Enough?
Quelle: Slashgear Englisch EN→DE
The ThinkPad X13s 5G is Lenovo's first release using Qualcomm's newest chip. It is a compact, lightweight, and tidy package that remains comfortable to use for extended periods. The ever-connected nature of it with its built-in 5G hardware makes it appropriate for this time of Zoom conferences, hybrid work schedules, and cloud-based workplaces. Its lightness is will be appreciated during travels with it, and the durability of the magnesium case offers excellent protection from mishaps or carelessness. For the professional with a non-stationary workplace, it would be great. However, it is a bit slower than some of its competition in the same price range and may not be as useful for activities once the workday is over, such as gaming in your hotel room. That said, it is still a highly capable machine with a lot going for it. At a price point exceeding $1000 (currently $1,550.99 from AT&T), not everyone will be grabbing this off the shelf. But the ThinkPad X13s 5G is not the computer for everyone.

80% Lenovo ThinkPad X13s Gen 1 Laptop review: Snapdragon gets down to business
Quelle: PC World Englisch EN→DE
While the ThinkPad X13s Gen 1 still could use some software improvements, this is the best Windows on ARM has ever been. That might be damning this Lenovo with faint praise, but a decade on this finally gets us closer than ever to Real Windows Laptop performance in a tiny, power-sipping, modern package. It helps enormously that the design and product engineering are worthy of the ThinkPad name, making it a nice device to use and carry. For IT pros, if there’s a road warrior in your C-suite, this diminutive ThinkPad might be exactly what they’ve been dreaming of while snoozing in business class. Taken on its own, there isn’t another business machine that can offer what the X13s can–just make sure all your mission-critical software runs on it before issuing it to the team. For individuals, this machine makes a lot less sense. There are people out there who would love a long-lasting machine that’s thin and has 5G integrated, but the competition is pretty stiff. Right now, there are a ton of powerful Intel and AMD-based machines that are competitive, stylish, and with good enough battery life.

Lenovo ThinkPad X13s Gen 1 Review: Big Snapdragon Performance Gains
Quelle: Hot Hardware Englisch EN→DE
The ThinkPad X13s' performance has markedly improved and its a very viable platform overall. Unlike the Gen 2 version of the Snapdragon 8cx, the latest iteration is significantly faster than its predecessor. Web browsing is snappier, office productivity is faster, and graphics performance is greatly enhanced. The best part is that none of this comes at the expense of battery life, which is still as outstanding as it has been on all the Snapdragon 8cx versions. Qualcomm targeted battery life in a big way here, yet progress in technology allowed a pretty big bump in performance to go along with it. All of that comes wrapped in a positively featherweight, fanless design that's sleek and highly portable. Pricing is always critical, and thankfully the ThinkPad X13s is pretty reasonably priced. The base model has 8 GB of LPDDR4x and a 512 GB SSD with a 1920x1200 non-touch display and no 5G modem for $1,085 direct from Lenovo. Our review unit with 16 GB of LPDDR4x and the same 512 GB of storage, but with a 5G modem runs $1,301.

60% Lenovo ThinkPad X13s Gen 1 Review
Quelle: PC Mag Englisch EN→DE
Overall, the ThinkPad X13s Gen 1 isn’t well-rounded enough to earn above a niche recommendation: that is, for those folks who need the 5G connectivity before all else, and who will keep their everyday work to typical, non-CPU-crunching office tasks covered by ARM-native apps. And without a sale (as mentioned, we've seen Lenovo offer 40% off on this model from time to time), it's just too pricey. Lenovo’s ThinkPad X13 Gen 3 is a little thicker and won’t match the battery life, but it suffers from none of the usability issues we saw with this laptop, and for something more stylish, the Dell XPS 13 is always a solid bet at this screen size.

All-day battery life? Check. Always-connected internet? Check. Excellent performance? Not so much. That pretty much sums up the ThinkPad X13s and Windows on ARM generally. Qualcomm and Microsoft have made some strides, for sure. The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is the fastest yet, and Windows on ARM supports more apps and drivers than before. But it’s still nowhere close to Intel, AMD, or Apple when it comes to an overall experience. For the right person, though, the ThinkPad x13s is a nicely portable laptop with great battery life. Everyone else should wait to see what’s coming next.
