The Lenovo Legion 7i blew the doors off our gaming tests with its high-powered Core i9 and GeForce RTX 3080. Coupled with its excellent G-Sync screen, it delivers one of the smoothest gaming experiences around. In fact, the Legion 7i excels in just about every area except for its fan noise and battery life, and it's mainly the latter's fault that our recommendation for a high-performance 15- to 16-inch gamer still goes to the Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5. But if peak performance is your calling card, the Legion 7i stands as one of the fastest rides you can buy.

The AMD version of the Lenovo Legion 7 is very much identical to the Intel model tested a few weeks ago. The AMD R9 hardware is not as powerful as the current Intel i9 and this AMD configuration lacks a few perks that are Intel exclusive at this point, such as very fast gen4 storage or Thunderbolt 4, but at the same time, this AMD Legion 7 variant is significantly more efficient on battery and a fair bit more affordable than the Intel model. So while you're not going wrong with either one, unless you need that fast CPU performance, the AMD Legion 7 is the arguably better-balanced option here.

I’m very pleased with this 2021 Lenovo Legion 7i. The Legion 5 Pro already checked all my boxes, but this is a significant improvement from even that, which makes it worth the little extra for matching configurations. The performance is among the best you can get on any laptop right now, and I like the keyboard on this series, the all-metal build and the fact the screen goes all the way back. Add in the 16” QHD+ screen, and it leaves very little else to complain about. All except for the battery life, that is, especially on this Intel-based model.
