Hier müssen zunächst die Preise genannt werden: Das Huawei P20 kostet derzeit 649 Euro, das P20 Lite 339 Euro und das ganz neue Honor 10 mit 64 GB 399 Euro. Damit hat das Honor das P20 Lite eigentlich überflüssig gemacht. Denn für 60 Euro mehr bekommt man anstelle des Einsteigersmartphones ein Gerät, das irgendwo zwischen oberer Mittelklasse und unterer Oberklasse mitspielt.

Huawei macht mit der P20-Serie im Allgemeinen und dem P20 im Speziellen vieles Richtig: Vorbei sind die Zeiten, bei denen man als Smartphone Besitzer manchmal Kompromisse eingehen musste. Wie zum Beispiel gutes Design, aber lahme Kamera. Beim P20 vermisse ich eigentlich nur den Kopfhörer Anschluss und Bluetooth 5.0 – die fixe Speichervorgabe kann leicht durch Cloud Dienste überbrückt werden.

Das Gerät bietet bei einer etwas kompakteren Baugröße rund um ein ebenfalls mit "Notch" versehenes 5,8-Zoll-Display und Fingerabdruckleser auf der Vorderseite eine Ausstattung auf ähnlich hohem Niveau, kratzt aber nicht ganz so offensichtlich an den Grenzen des Möglichen wie das P20 Pro mit seiner 40-Megapixel-Kamera.

Modell: Das Huawei P20 führt eine gänzlich neue Dual-Kamera von Leica ein. Es ist von den leuchtenden Wellen, der Lichtenergie, die unseren Kosmos füllt, inspiriert. Der geschwungene Glaskörper stellt für ein wahrlich erhellendes Smartphone-Design die Konzepte von Stärke und Licht in den Mittelpunkt. Die Huawei-P20-Varianten Twilight und Midnight weisen eine Hochglanzoberfläche auf, die durch eine Vakuumschutzschicht von 'hoher Härte' und Nano-Vakuum-Gradientenbeschichtung hergestellt wird. Diese Oberfläche ist genau so robust wie von anderen Huawei-Produkten, doch der Hochglanzschimmer kann mit der Zeit leichte Abnutzung zeigen. Die Qualität des Bildschirms ist gut. Das Huawei P20 nutzt, anders als das P20 Pro, kein OLED-Panel, sondern ein IPS-RGBW-Panel mit einer Auflösung von 1.080 x 2.244 Pixeln. Doch Helligkeit und Farben sind perfekt. Die hohe Helligkeit (456 cd/m2) sorgt für eine gute Ablesbarkeit in hellem Umgebungslicht. Zudem gibt es einige schöne Zusatzfeatures wie automatische Anpassung des Weißabgleichs an das Umgebungslicht wie beim iPhone oder iPad. User können zwischen den Modi Normal (sRGB) und Vivid (DCI P3) umschalten. Das P20 ist ein Kamera-Phone. Doch während das Huawei P20 Pro eine Triple-Kamera an der Rückseite bietet, muss das P20 mit zwei Sensoren an der Rückseite und einem an der Vorderseite auskommen. Die Kamera-App bietet die typischen Huawei-Modi, doch dieses Phone wählt den Modus abhängig von seinen Annahmen, was der User gerne hätte, automatisch. Die AI-Erweiterungen sorgen im Allgemeinen für bessere Fotos.

Richtet der User die Kamera auf Menschen, schält sie automatisch auf den Portrait-Modus und die Aufnahmen gelingen gut. Der Bokeh-Effekt ist erkennbar und verleiht dem Foto eine professionelle Note. Auch in puncto Video gibt es einiges zum Ausprobieren. Statt OIS oder EIS nimmt das P20 seine Bildstabilisierung AIS für Artificial Intelligence/Image Stabilisation. Außerdem bietet die Frontkamera sehr großzügige 24 MP mit f/2.0-Blende. Das P20 wird durch einen 2,4 GHz HiSilicon-Kirin-970-Chip, den man auch im Huawei Mate 10 Pro antrifft, angetrieben. Dieser wird mit 4 GB RAM und 128 GB Speicher kombiniert. Es handelt sich um ein schnelles, jedoch nicht um das schnellste Phone. Das P20 ist genau richtig schnell und reaktionsfreudig und das gilt für alle Funktionen des Phones. EMUI Version 8.1, welches auf Android 8.1 Oreo basiert, ist vorinstalliert. EMUI, wie Huawei seine ‘Emotion’-Oberfläche für Android nennt, sieht nun mehr denn je wie unverändertes Android mit einigen Extras aus. Zudem bietet das P20 Face Unlock. Es funktioniert schnell und gut und erkennt Personen mit sowie ohne Makeup und Brillen. Das P20 ähnelt einem Flagship, doch es lasst das Hauptmerkmal, das Huawei in seiner Marketing-Kampagne beworben hat, vermissen. Die Triple-Kamera-Lösung macht aus dem P20 Pro ein gänzlich neues Gerät, doch das normale P20 scheint kein würdiges Upgrade des P10 zu sein.
