n some aspects, the Honor X9c may not feel significantly better than a mid-range smartphone from 2023 or 1H 2024. But it has enough upgrades to really make its RM1499 price tag worthwhile. Not only does it offer plenty of features, but it also has incredible battery life, lots of RAM, and access to AI features. All of that is packed into a slimmer body that looks pretty good. Overall, it's a decent option if you need a mid-range phone that can do lots of things and deliver at least decent performance. Not what you're looking for? Then maybe consider the realme 13+ (RM1399), which has a smaller 5000mAh battery but sports a notably more powerful Dimensity 7300 chipset for games and a 50MP camera with a newer sensor. There's also the vivo V30e (RM1399), which looks like a flagship phone design-wise and delivers better camera performance.

The Honor X9c is a fantastic 5G smartphone from Honor. It has delivered a great experience in many aspects. The design is quite good and looks quite eye-catching. The body of the phone is also more resistant to scratches and shatter. It even has protection against dust and water splashes. The display is absolutely fantastic and is the best part of the smartphone. It can get extremely bright and provides a vivid viewing experience, thanks to the curved nature of the screen. The chipset is also quite decent with great gaming performance. The battery life and charging speed are also quite good. Even the main rear and selfie cameras are quite good.

The HONOR X9c has plenty to offer with its affordable price of RM1,499. It provides solid value for the money you’re spending and it’s practically built like a tank, even more so than before, while still being practical for daily usage. From a practical standpoint, you’d only want to look for something better if you need something that has better CPU / GPU performance or better overall camera system. Otherwise, this would definitely serve you well.

The Honor X9c is a smartphone that's marketed as being “ultra tough”. In fact, the company is so confident of its durability that it has included a 365-day screen protection coverage. That aside, the Honor X9c is essentially a solid mid-range Android device with great battery life, making it a pretty good choice for a sub-S$500 smartphone. On the front, the Honor X9c has a screen with curved edges. This OLED display has a resolution of 2,700 x 1,224 pixels, with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 4,000 nits. This is all within expectations for a mid-range smartphone, and I was completely satisfied using it both indoors and in bright daylight.

The Honor X9c is an impressively durable midrange phone with an array of welcome improvements over its predecessor including a brighter display, bigger battery and OIS for the rear camera while enjoying enhanced durability that can shrug off two metre drops. Those who already own its predecessor may have to mull it over as the X9c uses the same Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset but this is still more than sufficient for day to day use. In any case, this is the perfect phone for the butter fingered and those who prize durability.

When it comes to tough phones, Honor puts their money where their mouth is with their midrange X9 series which are toughened to absurd degrees of durability that enable them to shrug off drops and even be used as hammers to drive nails into wood. Their latest addition to the line-up, the Honor X9c 5G is a refreshed, upgunned successor to last year’s popular X9b and has a smattering of hardware updates and notably enhanced resistance to damage. Ahead of its official launch, we got our hands on a sample for field testing – here’s our Honor X9c unboxing and first look
