It's a close-run thing between the HP Stream 11 and the Asus EeeBook X205TA. The Stream 11 has a small performance advantage thanks to its higher clock speed, and the screen is marginally better. However, this comes with a significant 300g weight penalty. Either way, both of the laptops are a steal at £180 and are well worth your cash if you're on a budget. Yes, if you have to stick to a tight budget. For £179.99, the HP Stream 11 is ridiculously good value for money for a Windows laptop, particularly considering you get an Office 365 subscription worth over £50 with it. Key features like battery life, speaker quality and design all left really good impressions on us, and ensure the Stream 11 will serve almost any student well. It might not allow you to watch all of the Rocky films back-to-back, but it’s more than good enough for casual entertainment and work.

What’s more, it’s a bit more versatile than a Chromebook, working brilliantly with online apps, but still able to run more conventional Windows software if you’re sensible about your requirements or pair it with an external USB 3 hard disk. As a result, while the Toshiba Chromebook 2 offers better hardware and a nicer screen, the Stream 11 outmatches it for sheer value for money. It’s the best sub-£200 laptop money can buy.

The HP Stream 11 is a full-fledged Windows device that is priced lower than most of the Chrome OS devices. This makes it a no-brainer for shoppers that are looking for a budget laptop that will help them to get things done on the go. The HP Steam 11 is also very portable and sports an exceptional keyboard. For a device of this calibre, the audio is not bad and you can always give it a boost with a great pair of headphones. Additionally, the HDMI port allows you to use the Stream 11 on your flat screen television for large screen entertainment. Plus, it comes with a Windows Store gift card which reduces the price.

Overall, the Stream 11 is one of HP’s more interesting entries in the consumer laptop space, and it’s an entry-level unit that should be just fine for anyone who wants a basic and small computer. Its battery life is good (it lasted 6hr 17min in our video rundown test), its screen isn’t glossy (though it does look a little dull), and the overall build and feel of the unit is not cheap (despite the price).

There's a war going on between Microsoft and Google, and because of that shoppers will ultimately win. But is the HP Stream 11 a winner? In many ways, yes. This ultraportable is more versatile than a Chromebook, and I like the comfortable keyboard and loud speakers. And while the playful design isn't for everyone, it will definitely stand out in a crowd.

Das HP Stream 11-d001dx ist ein spaß- und benutzerfreundlicher Laptop, der kein Loch in die Geldbörse reißt. Es gibt zwei markante Farben, zwischen denen gewählt werden kann; blue und violett. Das gesamte Gerät mit Ausnahme der weißen Isolations-Tastatur verfügt über die ausgewählte Farbe. Das Chassis ist mit einem subtilen Muster bedeckt und sieht sauber und modern aus. Der Windows 8.1 64-bit Laptop beherbergt einen Intel Celeron N2840 Dual-Core-Prozessor getaktet mit 2,58 GHz mit 1 MB Cache und Intel HD Graphics.

Es gibt 2 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM und ein 32 GB eMMC-Laufwerk. Die Spezifikation entspricht dem Preis. Das Stream kann Alltags-Aufgaben wie Web-Surfen und Wiedergabe von grundlegendem Multimedia-Inhalten problemlos ausführen. HP entschied sich mit einem zu prahlen: dem 11,6 Zoll großen, entspiegelten HD-WLED Bildschirm. Das Bild ist kristallklar mit guten Farben und Kontrast.

Andere Features am HP Stream 11-d001dx umfassen WLAN, Bluetooth, ein USB-3.0-Port, ein USB-2.0-Port, ein HDMI-Ausgang und eine Kopfhörer/Mikrofon-Kombibuchse. Daneben gibt es einen multi-format SD-Medien-Kartenleser, mit welchem die Speicherkapazität erweitert werden könnte und eine HP TrueVision HD Webcam. Das Gesamtsetup wiegt 1,24 kg und verfügt über einen 3-Zellen Lithium-Polymer Akku, der für eine Akkulaufzeit von bis zu 8 Stunden sorgt.

At first blush, HP’s Stream 14 is an inexpensive compact budget laptop with a long battery life and performance good enough for basic productivity and streaming media. The system is encased in an attractive and bright aqua blue colour clamshell made of plastic, and the lid has ridges that give the device texture and added grip. The slim and lightweight laptop measures 17.8 x 337.1 x 226.1 mm and weighs up to 1.4 kg, making it extremely easy to carry around. As the name implies, the Stream 14 has a 14-inch LED-backlit screen with aspect ratio of 16:9, HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, and a pixel density of 112 PPI. The lack of IPS technology for the display gives it poor viewing angles, but its picture quality is decent and therefore should be suitable for entertainment like watching YouTube clips. The display is also bright enough to work in a dimly lit room. Set below the display is a full size Chiclet style keyboard with white keys, giving it a nice contrast to the Stream 14’s blue chassis hue. The keys have good travel and distance between them, and are comfortable to type on. However, the keyboard is not backlit, and that is among the few trade-offs HP had to make to keep the notebook affordable. The one-piece touchpad is also responsive and does its job well. For connectivity options, this budget notebook has a plethora of ports including USB 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 ports. Battery-wise, the Stream 14 runs on a 3-cell 41 Wh lithium-ion battery that can provide 9 to 11 hours of battery life depending on the type of usage. This is pretty impressive for a budget notebook.

The Stream 14 runs on a dual core Intel Celeron N3060, with a base frequency of 1.6 GHZ and can be pumped up to a maximum of 2.48 GHz with the help of Intel’s Turbo Boost Technology. The Celeron N3060 is one of the weaker CPU’s in today’s market. Though it has two cores, the Stream 14 may not be able to perform well in photo and video editing or 3D designing. This should come as no surprise, since this processor is complemented with an Intel HD Graphics 400 (Braswell) graphics card. These specs clearly indicate that the Stream 14 is not appropriate for modern gaming. Instead, the Stream 14 is designed to be only suitable for basic home and office computing tasks. Packed with 4 GB of RAM, there will be no problems with system lag when running multiple programs simultaneously. The Stream 14 ships with the Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64 bit operating system, and has an inbuilt storage of 32 GB. The storage capacity can be expanded with an USB drive or a microSD card. HP has also includes a one-year subscription to 1 TB of online cloud storage on Microsoft OneDrive and use of Office 365 Personal with the system.
