At a $399-base price, the Pixel 3a is a promising alternative to it flagship brother. The overall usage experience remains the same though certain feature have been removed. There's no wireless charging and water resistance, and some security features weren't included to further bring down the price. If you're will to spend an additional $400, then the Pixel 3 is a logical choice. But if you're ok with a toned-down version, without too much of a compromise, the Pixel 3a is a rather good, if not, best choice.

The Pixel 3 is an uncomplicatedly brilliant phone. Tweaks such as the design might seem small but we like the new glass rear cover with its soft matt finish which in turn brings wireless charging. It does everything very well without unnecessary fanfare. Now at a lower price, it's a great bargain if you don't want to spend extra on the Pixel 4's new camera and gestures.

Even into 2019, the Google Pixel 3 has the best smartphone camera you can buy. Don't let its raw specs fool you: its very ordinary sounding 12.2MP rear camera with a single lens and an f/1.8 aperture is enhanced by machine-learning software, Google’s secret sauce to making your photos better. The phone design doesn’t stand out, and the battery life will be underwhelming for power users, but Google does pack in a 5.5-inch screen and dual front-facing speakers into a one-hand-friendly phone. It’s Google’s best phone in a smaller size.

As Google prepares to unveil the Pixel 4, surely the most leaked phone of all time, it's time to reassess its predecessor. The Pixel 3 and 3 XL arrived this time last year, with many of us balancing the list price ($150 more than the Pixel 2) against some promising camera features. For many of us, the latter won out: The Pixel 3 series packed an incredible camera that set the standard for smartphone photography for the ensuing 12 months.

The Pixel 3’s digital camera is skillful at taking portrait images too. They take a couple of seconds to render, however the falloff between the fore- and background appears to be like pure and never overly easy. When I took a photograph of a canine, I seen a patchy-looking stray hair or two, however the impact was minimal. And the Pixel offers you the choice to tweak the blurriness and focus of those portraits after you hearth the shutter, just like the iPhone XS and different Android telephones.

In fact, my only gripe with the Pixel 3 involves its price. At $799, it's $150 more expensive at launch than the Pixel 2 was, even though the new phone packs the same 64GB of storage. And so much of what makes this device great pertains to software, not strictly hardware. Slight price hikes are expected, but you get the sneaking suspicion Google jacked up the cost just because Apple proved it could get away with upping prices first.

The Pixel 3a is a great new option in Google’s range which lets you have a phone that’s almost as good as the Pixel 3 for considerably less. That phone is available for a lot less than Google’s price if you look elsewhere, though, and it can be well worth splashing out the extra £89/$99 or so if you value waterproofing, wireless charging and better performance. But conversely, if those features will make no difference to you, you’re better off with the Pixel 3a.

I still very much agree with Kris’ sentiment towards the Pixel 3 in his initial review: It’s the iPhone of the Android world. It’s a phone that works well, and in my opinion offers the best Android experience on any phone right now. It’s not flashy, it’s not for everyone, but it’s still damn good.

The Google Pixel 3 definitely earns its place among the high-end mobile cameras. Together with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, the Google Pixel 3 is currently the joint leader in our new DxOMark Selfie ranking for front cameras. In Photo mode, it’s capable of capturing great images with excellent detail in almost all light conditions, thanks to Google’s clever software design and very good detail/noise trade-off. Exposure is also reliable, and thanks to good hardware design and a PDAF system that offers good depth of field and range of focus, scenes and subjects are sharp across a wide range of shooting distances. Used with a selfie-stick, it keeps the background in focus, which is useful for tourist-style shots with landmarks in the background. The white balance system could be more accurate, but overall, the Pixel 3 is great for front-camera stills.

With the Pixel 3, Google continues to make impressive gains in image processing using computational imaging. The result is a very versatile camera that people can confidently use in most situations without any manual settings or tweaks. In particular, the Pixel 3’s Zoom and Bokeh (Portrait mode) scores have improved dramatically over the previous generation. Overall, it is tied for the top of our single-camera phones with the Apple iPhone XR and beats it, along with nearly every other phone in our database, for Video. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL aren't perfect. But from a features and software standpoint, I do think Google has knocked it out of the park again. This is also a time where something approaching design fatigue is becoming increasingly obvious, and a lot of flagships phones are starting to look uncannily similar to each other, and to their predecessors. Software is one of the areas where companies can continue to throw in fresh ideas and innovate, and Google is doing this wonderfully. Google Pixel 3 is not for everyone. Usually, when someone asks me which phone they should buy, I simply point them towards the OnePlus 6T. It’s just better value. But these little things are what set the Google Pixel series apart, and for most buyers, they’re not enough to justify the massive price difference especially in countries like India. And I agree. The phone does deliver a better camera experience and slightly better performance thanks to the newer Snapdragon 845, but it honestly doesn’t have the same appeal as last year’s device did. Overall, is the Pixel 3 a worthwhile phone to purchase? The problem here is I think unless you’re very entrenched in Google’s software ecosystem and you make good use of many of Google US-exclusive features on the Pixel, then you might want to consider some other alternatives or just wait out the next generation from the big vendors. Google’s release schedule, which is out of sync with SoC vendors, means that the Pixel is again a half-way point between generations. On top of that, Google is demanding the full price of a new flagship, while lacking some of the features or build quality of said flagships.

It is hard to question Google’s intent behind making the Pixel 3. The vision is to make a flagship Android smartphone that is backed by Google AI, which is fast and slick, and where software takes a center stage. The Pixel 3 comes close but it is still not a perfect device. The camera is its biggest merit, the screen looks good, the front-facing speakers are loud and the battery is good if not the best. It’s going much too far to say that flagship Android smartphones have all become the same, but the differences between their hardware have become pretty narrow. Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, OLED screen, Gorilla Glass — if you were buying strictly off a spec sheet, it’s become fairly difficult to make a mistake if you’re picking from among the top four or five phones or vendors.

The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL aren't perfect. But from a features and software standpoint, I do think Google has knocked it out of the park again. This is also a time where something approaching design fatigue is becoming increasingly obvious, and a lot flagships phones are starting to look uncannily similar to each other, and to their predecessors. Software is one of the areas where companies can continue to throw in fresh ideas and innovate, and Google is doing this wonderfully. The Pixel 3 phones may not be the swankiest kids on the block, but they deliver where it counts. And sometimes, maybe substance matters more than flair.

What I will say is that I would be perfectly happy with the Pixel 3 or XL. And I was impressed with the Quick Switch Adapter (USB-A female to USB-C) and software that transferred everything from my Note9 very efficiently. It also works with iPhone, Blackberry and Windows Phone transfer. In Android to Android transfers the worst it will ask for is a password to activate the app, (e.g. email etc.).

Officially available on October 18, the Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL start at $799 and $899, respectively. These prices seem bang on considering the competition and the kind of value that you get out of these devices, so we can’t be annoyed by the price increase from last year’s Pixels. For the Android purist, the Material Design appreciator, and the camera buff – these are the Android phones to get right now.

Like all Google phones that came before them, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL offer an experience that goes well beyond hardware specs. The phones sit on the cutting edge of the Android platform, and represent Google’s vision about the present and future of its own mobile ecosystem. If you are shopping for a new Android phone, you need to have these two on your shortlist of options.

These are not radically different phones from last year's Pixels, but they are much nicer to use and remain the most pure Android experience you can get. That might seem weird to say when some vendors are equipping their phones with even more stripped back "stock" Android software, like HMD with its Nokia smartphones, but the difference is that Google's additions support and enhance Android Pie while keeping the whole thing minimal and fast, not beating you over the heady with glitzy features. Like last year, this is the best Android experience and camera you can get, but this time it's wrapped up in an overall better machine.

The Google Pixel 3 will run you $799 to start and $899 for the Pixel 3 XL. This will get you the 64GB storage models with another $100 bump up if you want 128GB. In the box besides the phone, Google this year has included a pair of wired USB-C headphones that have the same look as the wireless Pixel Buds. These headphones can be used with Google Assistant, and do live translation like the Pixel Buds. Both models share the roughly the same specs with only the battery being bigger on the Pixel 3 XL and the Pixel 3 speaker sounds being about 10% less than the XL. The Pixel 3 series is not available for pre-order now and both models come in Just Black, Clearly White, and the new Not Pink. The Google Pixel 3 has the best smartphone camera you can buy today. Don’t let the raw specs fool you: its very ordinary sounding single 12.2MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture is enhanced by machine-learning software, Google’s secret sauce to making your photos better. The phone design doesn’t stand out and the battery life is underwhelming for power users, but Google does pack in a 5.5-inch screen and dual front-facing speakers into a one-hand-friendly phone. It’s Google’s best phone in a smaller size.

Overall, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are a marked improvement over last year's models and from what we can see, they don't really have any deal-breaking flaw other than very high price tag. They are well-built, look great, have solid performance, and continue to shoot amazing photographs, thanks to great software. If we were to pick our favourite of the two, we'd recommend getting the Pixel 3 XL over the Pixel 3. The bigger battery and the larger, higher resolution display simply makes for a better experience.

For me, it’s more than worth it. I would pick the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL not only over most other Android phones, but even over the latest iPhones (even the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which are far more expensive). But I’m also highly invested in Google’s ecosystem, I’m a sucker for little details like the soft touch back, and I have a near compulsive need to use Android the way Google intends it.

The Pixel 3 XL would be a superb big-screen phone if its notch weren’t so polarizing. If you don’t like the fact that this notch is bigger than rival phones and don’t want to use the software fix to mask it, the Pixel 3 XL isn’t for you. But if you can live with those caveats, the Pixel 3 XL is a long-lasting, powerful flagship with a brilliant display, capable cameras and the best of Google’s software smarts.

What isn’t up for question is how polished the overall experience is for both devices. Last year’s Google phones showed us just what the company could do with software. Now, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL wrap that in a far more premium-feeling design, and feel all the more cohesive as a result.

Pricing here is somewhat competitive as well. The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL start at $799 and $899, respectively, for the 64GB models. That’s not cheap when you consider phones like the One Plus 6 are available for hundreds less, but in the overall landscape (and certainly compared to Apple's iPhone XS), the new Pixels aren’t the most expensive flagships either. Ultimately, Google seems to have balanced things nicely with the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. If you’re in the market for a new smartphone, do yourself a favor and check them out.

We only have three years of Google-made phones to look at, so it’s too early to tell if the company is going to fall into an Apple-esque pattern of alternating between big, flashy phones one year and “S-year” updates the next. So, what’s all this going to cost you? Well, the Pixel 3 starts at Rs. 71,000 while the Pixel 3 XL starts at Rs. 83,000. This is a Rs. 10,000 bump in price compared to last year’s model, which was to be expected we guess. It’s definitely going to be a challenge for Google this year, considering how competing flagships from Samsung retail for much less these days. The Pixel phones have always been about the camera but when you go this high up the price bracket, people are looking for the best all-round experience, which Google needs to nail. From what we’ve seen, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL seem like a definite step-up from their predecessors in terms of design and the way they feel. The question is, are they worth it? We’ll be testing them over the next couple of days so stay tuned for the full review coming soon.

Much of the interest in the new Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL (I’ll just use ‘Pixel 3’ through the article to keep it simple) has to do with the improved camera setup, mostly because the Pixel 2’s camera was so great. Many consider it to be the best in the business, and some would even say it’s even better than the recently launched iPhone XS (please argue in comments appropriately).

Das Google Pixel 3 ist in drei Farben erhältlich, nämlich Just Black, Very White und Not Pink.
