Kommen wir zum Fazit des Nexus 5X. Aktuell kostet das „kleine“ Nexus Smartphone in der 16 GB Variante rund 480 Euro im Google PlayStore und 399 SFr. bei digitec (die anthrazitfarbene Variante). Wer mehr Speicher benötigt und sich die 32 GB Variante kaufen möchte, muss 529 Euro bzw. 499 SFr. auf den Tisch legen. Viel Geld für ein Smartphone aus Kunststoff.

So there you have it for this second opinion look at the Nexus 5X! I really wanted to love this phone, and in a lot of ways I really do. However, there were a few issues, mainly to do with performance, that proved to be a let down. On way more than a few occasions, I did have an issue with getting everything I wanted to done on this device, with the little bit of lag creating issues with typing, or resulting in slow loading times. These problems may not be as much of a big deal for a lot of users out there, and the Nexus 5X is definitely a good choice in the affordable segment, but the flagship experience you may be looking for might not be available with this device.

There’s absolutely no point in me beating Google (and LG) up over the Nexus 5X, its design and component choices, since I don’t matter to them. Neither do you. The 5X is for developers to play with and to check that everything they’re planning for Android 6.0 works as advertised. That a few million geeks around the world were also counting on the 5X to be their next ‘hero’ Android smartphone is… unfortunate. It’s not, of course. The ‘hero’ device, I mean. After all that we get the feeling the earlier Nexus 5, from 2013, looks and feels much better than the current Nexus 5X. Sure, the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and 1080p display make the 5X worth upgrading to, but it hasn't quite got the X factor in all areas. There's no support expandable storage, no wireless charging, battery life isn't great, and the construction is plasticky (we don't actually mind, but some will). At this sub-flagship level there's increasing competition too.

I know that, for some, the lure of pure Android is so great that they won't consider anything other than a Nexus device. Ironically, though, one of the very reasons Google began the Nexus program was to coax manufacturers into following its lead on things like update speed and hardware specifications; HTC has done just that, and ended up making - to my mind - a far more appealing phone than the Nexus 5X.

On a related note, this year is a special one for the Nexus family, mainly because the 5X follows the same path as its predecessor, the Nexus 5, as in being an affordably priced, pure Android device. In contrast, the Nexus 6 reverted back to a more costly premium package last year. Going back to the strategy of offering a competitively priced phone, the Nexus 5X has the appeal to attract hardened Android users who were reluctant to fork over the disposable income for last year’s Nexus 6. If pricing is a driving factor for your purchase, then the Nexus 5X undoubtedly is a logical option.

Maybe. It’s a pretty nice phone, and I’d consider upgrading from my Nexus 5 for the improved battery life alone. When you add other features including a fingerprint sensor, ambient display, and a better camera, the Nexus 5X starts to look like a winner. But I’m not convinced I want to spend $379 or more a phone with a bigger screen…

One other key feature I’d like to mention is Nexus Imprint, which is the fingerprint sensor functionality that app developers can tap into for their apps, and which allows you to wake up and unlock the Nexus 5X with just one touch. The scanner is very reliable and quick – I estimate the time required to unlock the device at about 0.5 seconds – not the fastest around, but still very nice.

Presently only Nexus 6 phones can use Google as a provider, so the 5X and 6P could bring the service more mainstream when they launch later this month. Google’s going to find more competitive markets harder to crack, but Fi could become a major force in the mobile industry if it plays its cards right. We wouldn't advise getting either model in 16GB, so go for the 32GB Nexus 5x or 64GB iPhone 6s. The iPhone is the better device, in terms of both software and hardware (and blending the two together). But the Nexus 5x isn't a bad phone by any means, and it offers enough functionality to make most people happy. A lot of it comes (as it so often does) down to how much you want to stay in (or join) the Apple ecosystem of apps, entertainment and iCloud. Also, how much are you willing to pay for a slicker and easier-to-use interface? Apple fans will already have made up their mind, as will coders who find Android an easier environment to develop for.

With the Nexus 6P winning every category here, you might think it is clearly the better phone. However, there's a lot to be said for the smaller, lighter design and cheaper price of the Nexus 5X. These phones appeal to two different markets. If you want a good all-rounder that's not too expensive and not too big then go for the Nexus 5X. If you demand ultimate performance and the latest technology then the Nexus 6P is your only choice.

As you can see from our pros and cons list, there's a lot to like about the Nexus 6P from Huawei and Google. Specs remain premium and the design has been made not only more attractive but importantly more manageable. The main downside is the lack of wireless charging but USB Type-C buffers this blow a little.

This year we get double the Nexus phone action - the 5.2" Nexus 5X and the 5.7" Nexus 6P, brought by LG and Huawei respectively. They come to replace the two-year old Nexus 5 and the fresher Nexus 6. There's a new Android tablet too, but it's not a Nexus! Both Nexus phones solidify Google's ideal for an Android phone even if they don't break new ground. They share an adopted security focus with a fingerprint sensor for Android Pay and Google Play purchase notifications. Also both agree that USB Type-C is the way forward.

Modell: Als eines der ersten Geräte mit Googles neuestem Android 6.0 Marshmallow Betriebssystem ist das Nexus 5X Googles Antwort auf das Bedürfnis der Nutzer nach einem kleineren, kompakteren Smartphone, dem es nicht an Leistung mangelt. Das Nexus 5X ähnelt dem Nexus 5 von 2013 und wir ebenso von LG hergestellt. Es bringt die notwendigen Upgrades, die dem Nexus 5 Vorgänger fehlten. Eine der offensichtlichen Verbesserungen sind die 12,3-MP Kamera an der Rückseite und die 5-MP-Frontkamera. Obwohl es sich nicht um die besten verfügbaren Kameras handelt, liefert das Smartphone Fast-Fokus und detailreiche Schnappschüsse, die dem, was Samsungs Galaxy S6 bietet, sehr nahe kommen.

Der Fingerabdruckleser dieses Geräts befindet sich zudem strategisch günstig unterhalb der Kamera an der Rückseite und ermöglicht daher, das Phone mit einer komfortableren und natürlicheren Handhaltung zu entsperren. Allerdings hat das Nexus 5 auch einige Nachteile, besonders seine keineswegs spektakuläre Akkulaufzeit von nur einem Tag und eine Plastik-Bauweise, die sich billig anfühlt und nicht durch seinen Preis rechtfertigbar ist. Weitere Features dieses 5,2 Zoll großen, 136 g leichten Modells sind sein Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Hexa-Core-Prozessor, 2 GB RAM und ein Fast-Charging USB type C port.
