EN→DEThe Dell XPS 13 9350 is less a laptop and more a piece of industrial art, a bold statement about the future of minimalist design. It is a stunningly beautiful and exquisitely crafted machine that pushes boundaries with its invisible trackpad and capacitive touch row. This is a device designed for the user who prioritizes aesthetic purity and ultimate portability above all else. However, this relentless pursuit of a seamless, futuristic form comes with significant and polarizing compromises. This is not a laptop for everyone; it is a beautiful, highly specific tool that demands you adapt to its vision, rather than the other way around.

EN→DEDespite some improvements, the answer remains an emphatic no. For anyone who needs to type regularly, the keyboard is a drag; the connectivity is awkwardly restrictive, and not one facet of the pretty design makes it more pleasurable to use than any of the competition. Don't get us wrong, it's great to see Intel finally delivering on its side of the bargain, with a welcome boost to efficiency going hand in hand with genuinely useful gains in GPU performance. But it's not enough to offset the worst aspects of this design: one that deserves to be learned from – and ultimately consigned to the history books. Perhaps though, this is a fitting end for the XPS 13 after all. The flawed, original model in 2012 had thrilling potential. And the insanely expensive Dell Adamo which preceded it, and arguably inspired it, was bold, gorgeous, and awful – albeit more the latter than the former. With this final offkey Swan song, maybe we've finally traveled full circle. Rest in peace, XPS.

EN→DEAnd that brings me to the final and perhaps most important question, which is whether the XPS 13 is worth the money. And as always, the answer depends on you. First up, the XPS 13 starts at $1,715.99 for the Core Ultra 5 variant with 16GB of RAM, while the model I tested starts at $1,929.99. I’d rate these on the more expensive end, but it is a high-end Windows laptop, so these prices aren’t totally out of bounds. Based on battery life alone, I think the XPS 13 is a worthwhile investment, especially if you need an Intel chip. However, it’s worth noting that there are more affordable laptops out there and if you’re not tied to Intel, options like Asus’ Zenbook A14 could save you a few hundred dollars while offering similar battery life with a Snapdragon chip. I’d also caution any buyers to consider the keyboard situation.

EN→DEThe latest Dell XPS 13 brings Intel's Lunar Lake chips to the iconic laptop line, delivering truly all-day battery life and strong performance across the board in a sleek and stylish MacBook-esque design. However, issues with the XPS redesign remain, with its edgeless trackpad and adaptive function bar creating some problems with usability that prevent it from reaching true greatness.

EN→DEThe XPS 13 was once the best Windows alternative to the MacBook Air. If Dell had simply stuck the Lunar Lake chipset and OLED screen into the same chassis it used for the 2022 XPS 13, it would still be in the running. As it is, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition is a good option, unless you rely on software that doesn’t yet work with Windows on Arm. Asus’ Zenbook A14 and Lenovo’s ThinkPad X9 both look like they’re gunning directly for the MacBook Air’s style. And of course, there’s the upcoming M4 MacBook Air itself.

EN→DEWith Intel having largely caught up to Qualcomm on efficiency, sticking a Core Ultra Series 2 chip inside the XPS 13 will make a lot of sense to laptop shoppers who need x86 compatibility. There’s still plenty of performance on offer (for an ultraportable) and I can’t deny the OLED display is simply gorgeous. The Arc integrated graphics have more GPU punch, too. OLED screens suck down more juice than LCD ones, though, and even if you go for the more battery-friendly panel Intel can’t quite draw level with the Snapdragon on time away from the mains. When it also costs several hundred pounds more for otherwise identical specs, that makes it more of a hard sell. My issues around connectivity and the keyboard haven’t been addressed, either. As much as I like the XPS 13’s looks, there’ are laptops that are ‘s no shortage of alternatives that are easier to live with everyday.

EN→DEIt's no secret that we're fans of the XPS lineup here at ZDNET, and the Dell XPS 13 (9350) is a laptop that I would consider using as a main driver. The bold design elements aren't for everyone, but they contribute to a well-optimized and functional device that isn't just a pretty face. Intel's Core Ultra 7 Lunar Lake series processor rounds out Dell's 2024 XPS lineup with a slightly more accessible configuration that comes very close to the raw performance metrics of the XPS 13 with the Snapdragon X Elite. It's fast, looks good, and has a strong battery, which is the holy trifecta for usability.

EN→DEThe Dell XPS 13 has long been a go-to option for premium laptop buyers — and Dell is giving customers more options than ever. Along with offering a Snapdragon X Elite version of the XPS 13, Dell is, of course, also selling an Intel Lunar Lake iteration — so whether you’re loyal to Intel or willing to make the switch to an ARM-based machine, Dell has something for you. Lunar Lake is built to compete directly with Qualcomm, allowing for better power efficiency that translates to longer battery life with similar performance. It’s essentially Intel’s attempt to truly compete with a new generation of chips that could take a bigger bite out of Intel’s bottom line.

EN→DEI love the XPS 13’s portability. It’s a laptop that you can use anywhere and easily carry it around. But when I open it up and struggle with the keyboard and touchpad, I’m frustrated. I remember the older XPS design that was just as portable but a lot more comfortable. Put a “normal” keyboard with real function keys and a haptic touchpad that I can actually see, and I’d be a lot happier. The performance is fine and the display is good enough for most people. I’m sure the OLED model would be as spectacular as always. But what saves the XPS 13 from a lower score — I still can’t fully recommend it — is the battery life. It’s a major step up from the older Intel models, and it elevates this to a laptop that will keep you working for a long time — so long as you can get past its unconventional design.
