This Dell 2-in-1 hits all the right notes, but its biggest struggle isn't against its own kin—it's against its excellent competition. Namely, one really great HP 2-in-1: the HP Spectre X360. HP's best comes in a prettier package, has a webcam that's in the right spot, and even packs fully-powered Intel chips inside, making it faster. Oh, and it's cheaper; the Spectre I reviewed with an Intel i7 chip, 8 GB RAM, and a 256 GB SSD rings the till at $140 less than the Dell. Very recently, HP even announced models with pen compatibility and even 4K displays, even further chipping away at the Dell's strong suits.

Yes, we've seen convertible laptops like this, but none with Dell's XPS styling. And, based on my conversations with potential PC buyers, that alone could be enough to tempt them away from rival machines. Even then, the Spectre x360 machine is only 0.8 inch deeper front-to-back. We suspect most of us can clear a sliver of extra room on our desks to save $300 (between comparable models) and gain two extra hours of battery life. The HP system is, to our eyes, the better deal, even if we do like the look and feel of the XPS 13 2-in-1 a bit better.

It’s has XPS 13 in the name, but this is a very different laptop to the standard XPS 13. It’s less powerful, but lighter and should have better battery life. It’s a case of horses for courses: if thin and light is your priority and you won’t be doing much in the way of intense multimedia work, it’s very attractive. Still, the regular model will always be better value for those who don’t want a 2-in-1 design.

Modell: Zu einer Zeit, in welcher sich Laptops zu lüfterlosen Modellen entwicklen, werden User mit vielen Alternativen von schlanken und eleganten Laptops und dennoch effizientem Kühlsystem überschwemmt. Dell hat mit seiner Latitude-Serie eine solche Produktlinie eingeführt und macht nun das gleiche mit dem XPS 13 2-in-1. Auf den ersten Blick ist die schlanke Konstruktion des XPS 13 2-in-1 unglaublich erstaunlich. Es misst 19,81 x 30,34 x 0,81-1,37 cm (7,8 x 11,98 x 0,32-0,54 Zoll) und wiegt bloß 1,24 kg. Es ist aus bearbeitetem Aluminium, Kohlefaser, sowie verklebten Corning Gorilla Glass NBT solide gebaut und seine Stahlscharniere sind in bearbeitetes Aluminium gepackt. Wundervoll ist, dass dennoch das Design des XPS 13 beibehalten wurde. Dadurch ist es wirklich einzigartig. In puncto Leistung wird es durch den gleichen blitzschnellen Intel Core i5-7Y54 Prozessor der siebten Generation mit integrierter Intel HD Graphics angetrieben wie das XPS 13. Seien Sie darauf gefasst, dass Sie der praktisch rahmenlose Bildschirm überwältigt, denn es handelt sich um ein 13,3 Zoll großes InfinityEdge-Touchdisplay mit FHD-Auflösung. Dells Versuch den Bildschirm fast rahmenlos zu halten ist in puncto Maximierung der Blickwinkelstabilität und Übersicht erfolgreich. Das ermöglicht es dem Laptop so klein zu sein wie ein normaler 11-Zoll-Laptop. Sein einzigartiges Scharnier ermöglicht es, den Bildschirm um ganze 360 Grad nach hinten zu drehen, wodurch sich das Gerät in ein Tablet verwandelt. In diesem Modus sieht sein rahmenloses Design besonders einzigartig aus. Aktuell gibt es keine anderen Tablets oder Convertibels am Markt, die so gut aussehen können. Allerdings kann das rahmenlose Design beim Tragen des Laptops zum Problem werden. Da der Platz zum Halten beschränkt ist, neigen User dazu, versehentlich den Bildschirm zu berühren, welcher dann eine Eingabe registriert. Dieses Problem haben alle rahmenlosen Geräte wie das Xiaomi Mi Mix und Samsung’s S7 Edge gemein.

Die Speicheroptionen reichen von 4 GB bis 8 GB RAM und Massenspeicher steht in Form von einer 128 GB oder einer 256 GB SSD zur Verfügung. Netzwerkverbindungen werden von einem Intel 8265 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi und Bluetooth ermöglicht. Die Soundqualität des XPS 13 2-in-1 ist knackig und klar, denn dieser wird durch Waves professional abgestimmt und die Lautsprecher befinden sich praktischerweise an beiden Seiten. Für maximale Sicherheit ist ein schneller Touch-Fingerabdruckleser an Bord, welcher Microsoft Hello konform ist. Der Laptop ist mit einem primären Akku mit 4 Zellen und 46 Wh kombiniert, der laut Dell unter Produktivitätsanwendungen bis zu 15 Stunden oder beim Streamen von Netflix-Inhalten bis zu 10 Stunden durchhält. User könnten die Dell Hybrid Adapter + Power Bank überlegen, welche die Akkulaufzeit um 11 Stunden verlängert. Die verbaute Tastatur ist spritzwassergeschützt und für Verwendung in dunkler Umgebung beleuchtet. Windows 10 Pro in vorinstalliert. Insgesamt ist das XPS 13 ein wirklich cooles Gerät für Windows-Power-User. Während das XPS 13 als Konkurrent zu Macbook Pro und anderen schlanken Windows-Laptops gemacht wurde, soll das XPS 13 2-in-1 mit der Fülle an am Markt befindlichen Convertibles wie Lenovos Yoga-Serie und HPs 360-Grad-Serie konkurrieren. Mit Sicherheit kann man sagen, dass das XPS 13 2-in-1 aktuell das beste Gerät dieser Kategorie ist, jedoch auch etwas mehr kostet.
