Reviewing the M6500 has been a bit of a shakeup for our normal notebook and laptop tests. As a workstation class product, we had to look at additional tests to try and determine value. Ultimately, the recommendation is pretty straightforward: you buy a mobile workstation with certification to run the particular software package that you need for a reason. You can try the Dell Precision Workstation Advisor, though I suspect it will likely just confirm that the M6500 is capable of running your particular application.

This machine's performance is nearly the equivalent of midrange desktop workstations. In other words, it's more than a portable desktop - it's a beast that most desktops will envy. With the M6500, you can have it all and take it with you when you go.

ATI FirePro M7740: Workstation Grafikkarte basierend auf die Mobility Radeon HD4860 mit bis zu 1 GB GDDR5 Speicher (dies kann den 128 Bit Speicherbus kompensieren) und 640 Shadern. Direkter Konkurrent zur Quadro FX 3700M und in manchen professionellen Benchmarks sogar schneller.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

720QM: Der Core i7-720QM war zur Zeit der Einführung der langsamste Core i7-9xx Quad Core Prozessor. Er taktet dank Turbo Modus automatisch zwischen 1.6-2.8 GHz. Außerdem unterstützt er Hyperthreading zur gleichzeitigen Abarbeitung von 8 Threads. 17.30": Diese Displaygrösse ist ein Standardformat für Desktop-Replacements. Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind. 80.75%: Diese Bewertung ist leicht überdurchschnittlich, es gibt etwas mehr Geräte mit schlechteren Beurteilungen. Klare Kaufempfehlungen sehen aber anders aus.
