Ultrabooks sind gerade sehr auf dem Vormarsch. Das Inspiron 15z ist klar in der unteren Preisklasse angesiedelt. Es ist natürlich ein Kinderspiel mehr für ein Ultrabook auszugeben. Trotzdem kann der Dell in der Kategorie Mobilität und Verarbeitung problemlos überzeugen. Die Materialen sind gut gewählt und miteinander verarbeitet.

Das Dell Inspiron 15z könnte man als „Notebook ohne Eigenschaften“ bezeichnen. Weder leistet es sich allzu große Schwächen, noch zeigt es in irgendeinem Punkt große Stärken. Um es positiv auszudrücken: Der Kunde erhält für sein Geld ein ausgewogenes Hardware-Paket, das für die alltäglichen Aufgaben wie Textbearbeitung, Internet und nicht allzu aufwendige Bildbearbeitungen ausreicht.

Wie sich zeigt, ist Ultrabook ein sehr dehnbarer Begriff, denn das Inspiron 15z hat mit seinen schlanken und leichten Verwandten der 11- und 13-Zoll-Klasse auf den ersten Blick nicht viel gemein. Das muss aber nichts Negatives sein, denn 2,4 Kilo sind nicht zu viel für ein 15-Zoll-Gerät, und dank der größeren Maße passt auch ein optisches Laufwerk ins Chassis.

Für Einsteiger könnte das Dell Inspiron 15z Ultrabook die anfangs günstigste Notebook-Erfahrung mit Windows 8 und integriertem Touchscreen sein. Nicht ganz so flach wie seine hochpreisigen Kollegen, kann das Gerät vor allem mit einer großen Anschlussvielfalt inklusive optischem Laufwerk überzeugen. Hinzu kommt eine solide Verarbeitung dank haptisch hochwertigem Aluminium.

The Dell Inspiron 15z is a very good performer in office applications and even gaming. It looks good and has a decent build quality. The large 15.6" screen and the comfortable full-sized keyboard along with the responsive touchpad make it an ideal desktop replacement. Moderate gaming is also possible, thanks to the NVIDIA GeForce GT630M. However, it is a little too heavy to be considered portable. Also, it doesn't really give you the battery backup to stay away from a charging point for a long duration. The Inspiron 15z is rather expensive at Rs 75,000. In day to day applications, you can also opt for the ASUS S550CM, which is also a good performer, and although it has a slower Core i5, or the Acer Aspire M3 Touch.

The refreshed Inspiron ultrabook range feels a lot better to use. The "budget" build quality of the previous version has given way to a much more premium feel, while keeping the same design. Performance is quite good. But why you would consider the Inspiron 15z as an ultrabook, all models included, will be because you need the bigger display. With this particular model that we have tested, the Core i7 and 8GB RAM offer excellent performance as well. The touchscreen is an added feature, but we aren't sure if you will really need it that often. Consider this, only if you need the most powerful machine, in the ultrabook form factor. Else, the lower spec version of the Inspiron 15z would make a lot more sense.

The flagship version of the Dell Inspiron 15z will set you back Rs 74,990, plus taxes. This makes it quite expensive for an Inspiron, which were originally supposed to be budget-oriented notebooks. The high-end model then really doesn’t make much practical sense since you’ll seldom use the touchscreen. We weren’t very impressed with the build quality either. Overall, the Inspiron 15z is a decent buy if you pick the one that costs around Rs 50,000, but any configuration above that is not worth the premium.

Is the Dell Inspiron 15Z an Ultrabook? From our perspective it’s not very mobile, has relatively short battery life and could do with an SSD but seen from the 15-inch laptop perspective there’s an attractive package here. Only the screen disappoints in that respect and that might not be a problem for those planning to work using an external screen. We truly enjoyed the A/V capabilities of the 15Z – there’s nothing quite as easy as throwing your favorite DVD onto this and kicking back – as long as it’s only you. An IPS screen could have widened, literally, the viewer opportunity.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M: Entweder umbenannte GeForce GT 540M / 550M Grafikkarte oder 28nm GF117 basierend.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
