Für 449 Euro kann man sich aktuell ein sehr gut ausgestattetes Netbook kaufen, oder man greift zum Volksnotebook und erhält mehr Leistung, mehr Speicherplatz und mehr Bildschirmfläche. Und abgesehen von dem aufheulenden Lüfter finden wir auch fast nichts, was wir am Laptop fürs Volk aussetzen könnten: Gute Lautsprecher, solider Bildschirm, ordentliche Eingabegeräte, strapazierbare Verarbeitung, ansehnliches Design.

Der Wechsel auf den neuen Core i3-Prozessor wirkt sich überaus positiv auf die Rechenleistung aus. Abzüge hingegen müssen Käufer bei den Schnittstellen und der Ausstattung machen. Auch die Qualität des Notebooks könnte etwas besser sein. Gepatzt hat Dell vor allem bei den Touchpadtasten. Aufgrund des hart umkämpften Marktes im Preisbereich von 500 Euro sind diese Mängel bereits zu viel des Guten.

Ob Musik-Fan, MTV-Generation, oder keines von beiden, der Dell Inspiron EMA 2009 Limited Edition konnte uns nicht vollends überzeugen. Was der Hersteller hier als Lifestyle-Produkt mit buntem Cover-Art anpreist, ist ein eher unterdurchschnittlich ausgerüsteter 15.6-Zoller. Zum Preis von knapp 500 Euro bietet die Konkurrenz vergleichbar konfigurierte aber oft robuster gebaute Laptops an. Testberichte aus dem englischen Raum, die ein "normales" Inspiron 1545 beschreiben, haben die Verarbeitung des Deckels nicht bemängelt.

The Inspiron 1545 belongs to Dell’s ‘15’ line and is designed to ‘give you the everyday features you need, all at a great value’. The 1545 packs the right stuff for everyday usability at an attractive price. Not for gamers however.

The Dell 1545 is one of the most popular laptops of the moment. It's easy to criticise the Inspiron 1545, but for the price it's actually a very competitive machine. If you must use it for gaming, our advice would be to invest in the ATI card at purchase, and then upgrade the hard disk and RAM independently of Dell. That way you'll be able to get a semi-decent gaming laptop for under £450.

Wherever possible, it's interesting to test the whole process of ordering a laptop from a company, and looking at the before- and after-sales support as well as the machine itself. So that's just what we did with this Dell 1545, a smart, relatively economical machine that opts for trademark Dell efficiency over outright excellence. A professionally manufactured laptop that delivers pretty much what you need for the price being asked. It's no market leader, but it's a very solid performer.

The Dell Inspiron 15 is a decent mid-size budget notebook with good looks and average build quality. The keyboard is very comfortable to type on with excellent support, but has a weird function key layout that may annoy more advanced users. The touchpad offers an excellent surface texture with buttons that have great feedback and throw distance. Basic configurations start as low as $379, making it a reasonable choice if you are working on a budget. Overall it might not be the best notebook on the market, but it still offers great value and a reasonably attractive design.

The Dell Inspiron 1545 (i1545-004ST) meets two of the most basic laptop requirements: Both its screen and hard drive are large enough to handle the gamut of multimedia tasks. It isn't a speed demon by any stretch, as its Intel Pentium-branded processor lags behind the mainstream Intel Core 2 Duos, but you won't hear a peep from frugal shoppers. Available at your local Staples for $650, this whopper of a bargain comes with a nice 15.6-inch widescreen, 320GB of storage space, and 4GB of memory—all of which should be enough to offset the processor's shortcomings. If you can get past its speed limitations, the Dell Inspiron 1545 is one heck of a laptop bargain.

Dell's Inspiron 15 is really a mixed bag when it comes to a budget laptop. On the one hand, it has an excellent 15.6-inch display with an LED backlit that gives it some of the best color in price segment. On the other hand, Dell provides users with less in terms of software, storage and battery life unless they want to upgrade the systems which can quickly escalate the costs. This makes the Inspiron 15 a strong choice for those looking for an inexpensive laptop with a high quality screen but don't necessarily need the highest performance.

So what kind of internals does the 1545 hide under its plain but glossy shell for its bargain price? Well, they're actually a little better than you might expect. The cast is led by an Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 running at 2.0GHz with an 800MHz front-side bus. This is fast enough to easily handle any software you'd want to use on a notebook like this. As to memory, 3GB of DDR2 RAM is as much as the installed 32-bit version of Windows Vista Premium can handle. In a nutshell: if you're looking for a cheap and simple family laptop with reasonable speakers, the Dell Inspiron 1545 is worth considering. However, appalling battery life really hampers an otherwise solid but unspectacular effort that is inferior to the model it replaces.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Im GM45, GS45 und GE45 Chipsatz (Montevina Plattform) integrierte shared Memory Grafikkarte von Intel. Durch höhere Taktung und mehr Shader ist sie deutlich schneller als die X3100, jedoch immer noch nicht für Spieler empfehlenswert. Kann HD-Videos (AVC/VC2/MPEG2) dekodieren und so die CPU entlasten.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Duo Nachfolger mit längerer Pipeline und 5-20% Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bei 0.5 - 3 Watt mehr Stromverbrauch.

Der Notebook Core 2 Duo ist baugleich mit den Desktop Core 2 Duo Prozessoren, jedoch werden die Notebook-Prozessoren mit niedrigeren Spannungen und geringerem Frontsidebus Takt betrieben. Von der Leistung bleiben gleichgetaktete Notebooks deswegen (und auch wegen der langsameren Festplatten) 20-25% hinter Desktop PCs.

71.43%: Diese Bewertung ist schlecht. Locker drei Viertel der Modelle werden besser beurteilt. Das ist eher keine Kaufempfehlung. Auch wenn Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich gar nicht so schlecht klingen ("genügend" oder "befriedigend"), meist sind es Euphemismen, die eine Klassifikation als unterdurchschnittliches Notebook verschleiern.
