Assuming the price is not an issue and you want a Windows machine, should you choose the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro (£1,349) or the Asus Zenbook 14X OLED? That depends very much on your priorities. On one hand, the Samsung is lighter and thinner, has better battery life and a truly superb display. On the other, the Asus is more powerful, has a larger, touch-sensitive screen, a better sound system and, with the beige ceramic finish, looks and feels quite extraordinary. It’s not an easy call. Personally, I like my compacts to have a touchscreen so that would sway me towards the Asus but, no matter which you go for, you’re unlikely to be disappointed with your purchase.

There's plenty to like about this generation of the Asus ZenBook 14X OLED, as a competitive 14-inch portable laptop with a premium chassis, a beautiful OLED display, good inputs and IO, and plenty of performance for daily use and multitasking. The mid-tier Core i7 configurations are especially interesting on this series, as they're quite competitively priced as well. Just make sure a touch OLED display, with its particularities, is right for you.

The Asus Zenbook 14X OLED has an impressive, sleek look and clever design choices, like the built-in numerical keypad or the use of 30% recycled plastics in the chassis. The laptop runs on a high-end Intel processor, has the right amount of RAM, and enough storage space. The keyboard, trackpad, and touchscreen reliably registered all my inputs and were smooth to the touch. A vivid OLED display and Harman Kardon speakers with Dolby Atmos sound make this Zenbook come alive. Most modern productivity laptops perform at a fairly high level, so our subjective experience was much better than our benchmark numbers suggest. If you need extra performance, you could get the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus, but you’d have to make do without an OLED screen. If your main objective is outstanding battery life and a sub-par keyboard won’t phase you, the HP Dragonfly Pro (2023) has more than double the battery life of the Zenbook 14X OLED. Our main gripe is the port placement.

There’s a natural comparison between the Zenbook 14 OLED and the Zenbook 14X OLED, with both representing great values, particularly in their entry-level configurations. Which is a better value comes down to how much you value extra storage and a faster CPU. Then, you have to balance higher performance against longer battery life. It’s a tough call. I went back and forth on how to rate the Zenbook 14X OLED. Yes, it’s more powerful than the Zenbook 14 OLED, but it also gets less battery life. And it’s slightly more expensive. In the end, I think it’s a slightly lesser value, so while I highly recommend it, I don’t think it deserves quite as high a ranking.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
